  • Populating Models from other Models in Django?

    - by JT
This is somewhat related to the question posed in this question but I'm trying to do this with an abstract base class. For the purposes of this example lets use these models: class Comic(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=20) desc = models.CharField(max_length=100) volume = models.IntegerField() ... <50 other things that make up a Comic> class Meta: abstract = True class InkedComic(Comic): lines = models.IntegerField() class ColoredComic(Comic): colored = models.BooleanField(default=False) In the view lets say we get a reference to an InkedComic id since the tracer, err I mean, inker is done drawing the lines and it's time to add color. Once the view has added all the color we want to save a ColoredComic to the db. Obviously we could do inked = InkedComic.object.get(pk=ink_id) colored = ColoredComic() colored.name = inked.name etc, etc. But really it'd be nice to do: colored = ColoredComic(inked_comic=inked) colored.colored = True colored.save() I tried to do class ColoredComic(Comic): colored = models.BooleanField(default=False) def __init__(self, inked_comic = False, *args, **kwargs): super(ColoredComic, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs) if inked_comic: self.__dict__.update(inked_comic.__dict__) self.__dict__.update({'id': None}) # Remove pk field value but it turns out the ColoredComic.objects.get(pk=1) call sticks the pk into the inked_comic keyword, which is obviously not intended. (and actually results in a int does not have a dict exception) My brain is fried at this point, am I missing something obvious, or is there a better way to do this?

  • writing to existing workbook using xlwt

    - by Raj N
I am unable to find examples where xlwt is used to write into existing files. I have a existing xls file that I need to write to. When I use xlrd to read the file, I cant seem to figure out how to transform the "Book" type returned into a xlwt.Workbook. I would appreciate if someone can point me to an example.

  • Generate unique hashes for django models

    - by becomingGuru
I want to use unique hashes for each model rather than ids. I implemented the following function to use it across the board easily. import random, hashlib from base64 import urlsafe_b64encode def set_unique_random_value(model_object,field_name='hash_uuid',length=5,use_sha=True,urlencode=False): while 1: uuid_number = str(random.random())[2:] uuid = hashlib.sha256(uuid_number).hexdigest() if use_sha else uuid_number uuid = uuid[:length] if urlencode: uuid = urlsafe_b64encode(uuid)[:-1] hash_id_dict = {field_name:uuid} try: model_object.__class__.objects.get(**hash_id_dict) except model_object.__class__.DoesNotExist: setattr(model_object,field_name,uuid) return I'm seeking feedback, how else could I do it? How can I improve it? What is good bad and ugly about it?

  • Looping to provide multiple lines in linechart (django-googlecharts)

    - by mighty_bombero
Hi, I'm trying to generate some charts using django-googlecharts. This works fine for rather static data but in one case I would like to render a different number of lines, based on a variable. I tried this: {% chart %} {% for line in line_data %} {% chart-data line %} {% endfor %} {% chart-size "390x200" %} {% chart-type "line" %} {% chart-labels days %} {% endchart %} Line data is a list containing lists. The template code fails with "Caught an exception while rendering: max() arg is an empty sequence". I guess the problem is that I try to loop over templatetags. What approach could be used here? Or am I completely missing something? Is this doable using inclusion tags? Thanks for your help.

  • Multi-file, simultaneous, drag-and-drop file uploads in the browser without ActiveX?

    - by qiq
I like how Windows Skydrive lets you drag files into Internet Explorer where an ActiveX component uploads those files to your Skydrive account in a queue. This avoids the cumbersome traditional HTML approach where you present multiple "Browse" buttons and the user has to select individual files one by one, click Upload and then select more files after the first batch completes. What I'm not sure is how the same effect could be achieved in a web app without ActiveX. Any suggestions?

  • What does suds mean by "<faultcode/> not mapped to message part" ?

    - by Pratik Patel
I'm using suds for the first time and trying to communicate with a server hosted by an external company. When I call a method on the server I get this XML back. soap:Server Can't use string ("") as an ARRAY ref while "strict refs" in use at /vindicia/site_perl/Vindicia/Soap/DocLitUtils.pm line 130. The exception thrown is this: File "C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\suds-0.4-py2.6.egg\suds\client.py", line 538, in __call__ return client.invoke(args, kwargs) File "C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\suds-0.4-py2.6.egg\suds\client.py", line 602, in invoke result = self.send(msg) File "C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\suds-0.4-py2.6.egg\suds\client.py", line 634, in send result = self.succeeded(binding, reply.message) File "C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\suds-0.4-py2.6.egg\suds\client.py", line 669, in succeeded r, p = binding.get_reply(self.method, reply) File "C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\suds-0.4-py2.6.egg\suds\bindings\binding.py", line 157, in get_reply result = self.replycomposite(rtypes, nodes) File "C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\suds-0.4-py2.6.egg\suds\bindings\binding.py", line 227, in replycomposite raise Exception(' not mapped to message part' % tag) Exception: not mapped to message part Any idea why suds is throwing the exception? Any thoughts on how it could be fixed?

    - by wtzolt
Hello, I have a message box pop up when a certain operation is being executed sort of "wait..." window and I want to have a "loading" *.gif animation there to lighten up the mood :) Anyways I can't seem to figure out how to make this work. It's a complete mess. I tried calling through class but i get loads of errors to do with pyglet itself. class messageBox: def __init__(self, lbl_msg = 'Message here', dlg_title = ''): self.wTree = gtk.glade.XML('msgbox.glade') self.wTree.get_widget('label1').set_text(lbl_msg) self.wTree.get_widget('dialog1').set_title(dlg_title) ????sprite = pyglet.sprite.Sprite(pyglet.resource.animation("wait.gif")) ????self.wTree.get_widget('waitt').set_from_file(sprite) [email protected] ????def on_draw(): ???? win.clear() ???? sprite.draw() handlers = { 'on_okbutton1_clicked':self.gg } self.wTree.signal_autoconnect( handlers ) self.wTree.get_widget("dialog1").set_keep_above(True) def done(self): self.wTree.get_widget('dialog1').destroy() def gg(self,w): self.wTree.get_widget('dialog1').destroy() --------- @yieldsleep def popup(self, widget, data=None): self.msg = messageBox('Wait...','') ?what to call here? yield 500 print '1' yield 500 print '2' yield 500 print '3' self.msg.done() self.msg = messageBox('Done! • QTableWidget signal cellChanged(): distinguish between user input and change by routines

    - by crabman
i am using PyQt but my question is a general Qt one: I have a QTableWidget that is set up by the function updateTable. It writes the data from DATASET to the table when it is called. Unfortunately this causes my QTableWidget to emit the signal cellChanged() for every cell. The signal cellChanged() is connected to a function on_tableWidget_cellChanged that reads the contents of the changed cell and writes it back to DATASET. This is necessary to allow the user to change the data manually. So everytime the table is updated, its contents are written back to DATASET. Is there a way to distinguish if the cell was changed by the user or by updateTable? i thought of disconnecting on_tableWidget_cellChanged by updateTable temporarily but that seems to be a little dirty.

  • Batch select with SQLAlchemy

    - by muckabout
I have a large set of values V, some of which are likely to exist in a table T. I would like to insert into the table those which are not yet inserted. So far I have the code: for value in values: s = self.conn.execute(mytable.__table__.select(mytable.value == value)).first() if not s: to_insert.append(value) I feel like this is running slower than it should. I have a few related questions: Is there a way to construct a select statement such that you provide a list (in this case, 'values') to which sqlalchemy responds with records which match that list? Is this code overly expensive in constructing select objects? Is there a way to construct a single select statement, then parameterize at execution time?

  • How to use py2exe icon_resources in wxPython application?

    - by Soviut
I have a wxPython application I'm bundling into an exe using py2exe. I've defined an icon in the setup.py file using the following: setup( windows=[ { 'script': 'myapp.py', 'icon_resources': [(1, 'myicon.ico')] }, ], ) This works, but I'd like to be able to access that icon from my wxPython application and use it as the window icon that appears in the top right. Currently I'm using the following to load the icon from the file system: icon = wx.Icon('myicon.ico', wx.BITMAP_TYPE_ICO, 16, 16) self.SetIcon(icon) Which works, but requires that the icon sit beside the EXE, rather than bundled inside it.

  • GAE/Django Templates (0.96) filters to get LENGTH of GqlQuery and filter it

    - by Halst
I pass the query with comments to my template: COMM = CommentModel.gql("ORDER BY created") doRender(self,CP.template,{'CP':CP,'COMM':COMM, 'authorize':authorize()}) And I want to output the number of comments as a result, and I try to do things like that: <a href="...">{{ COMM|length }} comments</a> Thats does not work (yeah, since COMM is GqlQuery, not a list). What can I do with that? Is there a way to convert GqlQuery to list or is there another solution? (first question) Second question is, how to filter this list in template? Is there a construct like this: <a href="...">{{ COMM|where(reference=smth)|length }} comments</a> so that I can get not only the number of all comments, but only comments with certain db.ReferenceProperty() property, for example. Last question: is it weird to do such things using templates?

  • Lighting Fast CMS, a Django based CMS. Any experiences?

    - by Melmacian
I've just came across Lighting Fast CMS, which seems to be very promising Django based content management system. Documentation seem to be very good, even though it is still in beta stage. It also has very nice buildout based installation. Also core Components of it seem to be nicely decoupled. Does anyone have any experiences with it yet? How much one can customize it with extensions? How's extension development in general compared to Drupal or Plone? I'm hoping that I could do some projects with it instead of Plone or Drupal. Those both are great, but extending them ain't too nice. The project can be found here: http://www.lfcproject.com/

  • Refresh QTextEdit in PyQt

    - by Mark Underwood
    Hi all, Im writing a PyQt app that takes some input in one widget, and then processes some text files. What ive got at the moment is when the user clicks the "process" button a seperate window with a QTextEdit in it pops up, and ouputs some logging messages. On Mac OS X this window is refreshed automatically and you cna see the process. On Windows, the window reports (Not Responding) and then once all the proccessing is done, the log output is shown. Im assuming I need to refresh the window after each write into the log, and ive had a look around at using a timer. etc, but havnt had much luck in getting it working. Below is the source code. It has two files, GUI.py which does all the GUI stuff and MOVtoMXF that does all the processing. GUI.py import os import sys import MOVtoMXF from PyQt4.QtCore import * from PyQt4.QtGui import * class Form(QDialog): def process(self): path = str(self.pathBox.displayText()) if(path == ''): QMessageBox.warning(self, "Empty Path", "You didnt fill something out.") return xmlFile = str(self.xmlFileBox.displayText()) if(xmlFile == ''): QMessageBox.warning(self, "No XML file", "You didnt fill something.") return outFileName = str(self.outfileNameBox.displayText()) if(outFileName == ''): QMessageBox.warning(self, "No Output File", "You didnt do something") return print path + " " + xmlFile + " " + outFileName mov1 = MOVtoMXF.MOVtoMXF(path, xmlFile, outFileName, self.log) self.log.show() rc = mov1.ScanFile() if( rc < 0): print "something happened" #self.done(0) def __init__(self, parent=None): super(Form, self).__init__(parent) self.log = Log() self.pathLabel = QLabel("P2 Path:") self.pathBox = QLineEdit("") self.pathBrowseB = QPushButton("Browse") self.pathLayout = QHBoxLayout() self.pathLayout.addStretch() self.pathLayout.addWidget(self.pathLabel) self.pathLayout.addWidget(self.pathBox) self.pathLayout.addWidget(self.pathBrowseB) self.xmlLabel = QLabel("FCP XML File:") self.xmlFileBox = QLineEdit("") self.xmlFileBrowseB = QPushButton("Browse") self.xmlLayout = QHBoxLayout() self.xmlLayout.addStretch() self.xmlLayout.addWidget(self.xmlLabel) self.xmlLayout.addWidget(self.xmlFileBox) self.xmlLayout.addWidget(self.xmlFileBrowseB) self.outFileLabel = QLabel("Save to:") self.outfileNameBox = QLineEdit("") self.outputFileBrowseB = QPushButton("Browse") self.outputLayout = QHBoxLayout() self.outputLayout.addStretch() self.outputLayout.addWidget(self.outFileLabel) self.outputLayout.addWidget(self.outfileNameBox) self.outputLayout.addWidget(self.outputFileBrowseB) self.exitButton = QPushButton("Exit") self.processButton = QPushButton("Process") self.buttonLayout = QHBoxLayout() #self.buttonLayout.addStretch() self.buttonLayout.addWidget(self.exitButton) self.buttonLayout.addWidget(self.processButton) self.layout = QVBoxLayout() self.layout.addLayout(self.pathLayout) self.layout.addLayout(self.xmlLayout) self.layout.addLayout(self.outputLayout) self.layout.addLayout(self.buttonLayout) self.setLayout(self.layout) self.pathBox.setFocus() self.setWindowTitle("MOVtoMXF") self.connect(self.processButton, SIGNAL("clicked()"), self.process) self.connect(self.exitButton, SIGNAL("clicked()"), self, SLOT("reject()")) self.ConnectButtons() class Log(QTextEdit): def __init__(self, parent=None): super(Log, self).__init__(parent) self.timer = QTimer() self.connect(self.timer, SIGNAL("timeout()"), self.updateText()) self.timer.start(2000) def updateText(self): print "update Called" AND MOVtoMXF.py import os import sys import time import string import FileUtils import shutil import re class MOVtoMXF: #Class to do the MOVtoMXF stuff. def __init__(self, path, xmlFile, outputFile, edit): self.MXFdict = {} self.MOVDict = {} self.path = path self.xmlFile = xmlFile self.outputFile = outputFile self.outputDirectory = outputFile.rsplit('/',1) self.outputDirectory = self.outputDirectory[0] sys.stdout = OutLog( edit, sys.stdout) class OutLog(): def __init__(self, edit, out=None, color=None): """(edit, out=None, color=None) -> can write stdout, stderr to a QTextEdit. edit = QTextEdit out = alternate stream ( can be the original sys.stdout ) color = alternate color (i.e. color stderr a different color) """ self.edit = edit self.out = None self.color = color def write(self, m): if self.color: tc = self.edit.textColor() self.edit.setTextColor(self.color) #self.edit.moveCursor(QtGui.QTextCursor.End) self.edit.insertPlainText( m ) if self.color: self.edit.setTextColor(tc) if self.out: self.out.write(m) self.edit.show() If any other code is needed (i think this is all that is needed) then just let me know.
