• Explanation of NSMutableURLRequest : setHTTPMethod

  I am new to objective c programming. I am currently trying to insert data into mysql database. I have read a couple links on this and could not find the exact answer I am looking for. Here is what I am trying to do: I have my app that user inputs a name in a text field and once the press the add button, it makes a connection to my php file and my php file does the rest of the work (using POST method) and adds the name to the mysql dataase. I have seen a lot of people use NSMutableURLRequest : setHTTPMethod :POST`` in their code (in my case my php file does that and I don't haveNSMutableURLRequest` included in my code and it works perfectly fine.) My questions are: Are there any benefits of including NSMutableURLRequest in your code when you can just call your php code to take care of the POST for you? What does NSMutableURLRequest exactly do and which way is more efficient?

• Ruby on Rails - can't access datetime model object

  I've created a model that has 3 string columns and a datetime. Everything is running in SQLite3 and I can view the records in my table just fine using Lita. I'm trying to display the values in a page (index action) using code like this: <% @details.each do |lifeCycle| % <%= debug(lifeCycle)% <%= lifeCycle.lifeCycleId % <%= lifeCycle.eventType % <%= debug(lifeCycle.timeId) % <% end % From the debug I get a result like this: --- !ruby/object:LifeCycle attributes: eventType: Order created_at: "2111359287.23037" timeId: "2455364.89983796" eventId: "98765" updated_at: "2111359287.23037" lifeCycleId: "12345" id: "1" attributes_cache: {} But whenever I try to access the event timeId - i' getting a nil value. This is true if i try to run debug on just that field debug(lifeCycle.timeId), or call a function on it. Is there something obvious I'm missing here?

• Problem building relationships between models

  Until now, I've been using acts_as_taggable_on plugin for tagging announcements. That plugin creates the following tables: taggings: relates tags and announcements table(for the tagged item, it has a field called taggable_id, which I rename to "announcement_id" for what I'll explain below). tags: has the tag ids and names. The other day, I discovered that I had no way of getting the announcements tagged with a certain tag, but doing Announcement.tagged_with(tag_name), and I don't want to search by name, but for id. So, as I'm using almost nothing of the functionality in that plugin, I decided to create the models for taggings and tags tables, to accomplish this: Announcement.tags. The models' relationships look as following: class Tagging < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :announcement belongs_to :tag end class Tag < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :announcements, :through => :taggings end class Announcement < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :tags, :through => :taggings Why can't I execute the command Announcement.tags? Because when I try, I get undefined method `tags'

• Why is [date] + [time] non-deterministic in SQL Server 2008?

  I'm trying to do the following for my IIS logs table: ALTER TABLE [W3CLog] ADD [LogTime] AS [date] + ([time] - '1900-01-01') PERSISTED However, SQL Server 2008 tells me: Computed column 'LogTime' in table 'W3CLog' cannot be persisted because the column is non-deterministic. The table has this definition: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[W3CLog]( [Id] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, ... [date] [datetime] NULL, [time] [datetime] NULL, ... ) Why is that non-deterministic? I really need to index that field. The table currently has 1598170 rows, and it is a pain to query if we can't do an index seek on the full time. Since this is being UNION'd with some other log formats, we can't very easily just use the two columns separately.

  I need to create a field called “rank”, that ranks each part ID based on total sales, by assigning a sequential number based on total sales, where the higher the total sales, then the lower the rank value. For example, the part ID with the most sales would have a rank value of “1” and the part ID with the next highest sales would have a rank value of “2” and the part ID with the lowest sales would rank with the highest number. If 2 different parts ID’s have the same total sales, then it is OK if they share the same rank. • Optimizing MySQL queries with IN operator

  I have a MySQL database with a fairly large table where the products are. Each of them has its own id and categoryId field where there is a category id belongs to this product. Now I have a query that pulls out products from given categories such as: SELECT * FROM products WHERE categoryId IN ( 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 34, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 ) Of course, come a WHERE clause and ORDER BY sort but not in this thing. Let's say that these products is 250k and the visits are over 100k per day. Under such conditions in the table slow_log registered weight of these queries with large generation time. Do you have any ideas how to optimize the given problem? Table engine is MyISAM.

• passing array fields to jquery ajax

  I have a form I am submitting via jquery ajax. Early in the form, I have this field: <select name="inquirymodule[]" id="inquirymodule"> The user can add as many as they like, and all the selects go into the inquirymodule[] array. The jQuery looks like this: jQuery.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: 'ajax.php', dataType: 'json', data: { inquirymodule: jQuery("select[name='inquirymodule[]']").serialize(), }, error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) { alert('error'); } }); That works fine. Trying to do the same thing with a date, like this: <input class="formInput" type="text" id="startBreak0" name='startbreak[]' /> adding startbreak: jQuery("select[name='startbreak[]']").serialize() to the ajax call. It doesn't work, I cannot see why. Suggestions?

• How do I inherit abstract unit tests in Ruby?

  I have two unit tests that should share a lot of common tests with slightly different setup methods. If I write something like class Abstract < Test::Unit::TestCase def setup @field = create end def test_1 ... end end class Concrete1 < Abstract def create SomeClass1.new end end class Concrete2 < Abstract def create SomeClass2.new end end then Concrete1 does not seem to inherit the tests from Abstract. Or at least I cannot get them to run in eclipse. If I choose "Run all TestCases" for the file that contains Concrete1 then Abstract is run even though I do not want it to be. If I specify Concrete1 then it does not run any tests at all! If I specify test_1 in Concrete1 then it complains it cannot find it ("uncaught throw :invalid_test (ArgumentError)"). I'm new to Ruby. What am I missing here?

  Disclaimer, I'm not a PHP programmer, so you might find this question trivial. That's why I'm asking you! I've got this kind of timestamp: 2010-05-10T22:00:00 (That's Y-m-d) I would like to subtract, say, 10 days (or months, whatever) from this, and have my result be in the same format, i.e. 2010-04-30T22:00:00. What function(s) do I need to do this in PHP? Note: I'm using this to do a computed field in Drupal. The result will be the date that an e-mail is sent. Bonus question: If 2010-05-10T22:00:00 means "May 10, 2010 at 10pm", is there a timestamp equivalent of "May 10, 2010 (all day)"? Thanks everyone.

  So I know the convention for naming M-M relationship tables in SQL is to have something like so: For tables User and Data the relationship table would be called UserData User_Data or something similar (from here) What happens then if you need to have multiple relationships between User and Data, representing each in its own table? I have a site I'm working on where I have two primary items and multiple independent M-M relationships between them. I know I could just use a single relationship table and have a field which determines the relationship type, but I'm not sure whether this is a good solution. Assuming I don't go that route, what naming convention should I follow to work around my original problem?

• How do I create if statements in php to perform a specific action depending on what form has string in it

  Im trying to create a grid on my page in each cell there will be a simple one line form. If a person enters data into lets say FieldA I would like the php to perform actionA but if the data was entered in FieldF I would like actionF performed. Is this possible without having to create a php for each cell and upload all those php files? Or is there a way to perform the GET method in each form to append the data to the end of the action url without the field name showing (ie sample.com/somestuff/fieldA instead of sample.com/somestuff/fieldname=fieldA) thus not needing php at all?

• c++: at what point should I start using "new char[N]" vs a static buffer "char[Nmax]"

  My question is with regard to C++ Suppose I write a function to return a list of items to the caller. Each item has 2 logical fields: 1) an int ID, and 2) some data whose size may vary, let's say from 4 bytes up to 16Kbytes. So my question is whether to use a data structure like: struct item { int field1; char field2[MAX_LEN]; OR, rather, to allocate field2 from the heap, and require the caller to destroy when he's done: struct item{ int field1; char *field2; // new char[N] -- destroy[] when done! Since the max size of field #2 is large, is makes sense that this would be allocated from the heap, right? So once I know the size N, I call field2 = new char[N], and populate it. Now, is this horribly inefficient? Is it worse in cases where N is always small, i.e. suppose I have 10000 items that have N=4?

• Easiest way to keep SSRS child elements in the same relative position when the parent is re-positioned?

  I am trying to revise the layout of an SSRS report where I have several textboxes that are child elements of a rectangle. When I reposition the parent rectangle down by x, all of the child textboxes maintain the same absolute position. Their "Location" (defined relative to the parent) decreases by x. I then need to reposition the child textboxes. Additionally, if any of these ever has a negative "Location" then the parent rectangle is then repositioned back up by x. What is the easiest way to move everything in unison? I can Control-click everything and then drag them or use the arrow keys, but I want to position everything with precision and the "Location" field in the Properties window disappears when selecting more than one item. Is there a way I can avoid individually computing and typing in every "Location" value every time I have a small layout change? I am using SSRS (11.0.3360.12) within the Visual Studio 2012 Shell.   I recently found an exploit in my router to basically give me root access. The catch? There is a nonce hidden form value that is randomly generated and must be sent in for it to work that makes it difficult to do "easily" So basically I'm wanting to do something like this in javascript: get http://192.168.1.254/blah use a regex or similar to extract the nonce value put the nonce value into a hidden field in the current page submit the form by POST to http://192.168.1.254/blah complete with the nonce value and other form values I want to send in. Is this at all possible using only HTML and Javascript? I'm open to things like "must save HTML file locally and then open", which I'm thinking is one way around the cross domain policy. But anyway, is this at all possible? I'm hoping for this to be able to run from at least Firefox and Chrome. The audience for this is those with some technical know how.

Where someone using a CMS could type [readmore] anywhere into the Content field, which would be replaced by the above anchor via PHP. This way they would be easily able to control where the Read More break appears within the container. In the associated example I am hard-coding the height to 75px, although what I want is for the height to be dependent on the location of the anchor id="stop" in the text. Thanks.   I want to write an update query in MS Access 2003. I have a field called product_code. If product code is (between 110 and 752) OR (between 910 and 1124), I want to update product code=15. If product code is (between 1210 and 1213) OR (1310 and 1423) I want to assign product code=16. If product code is some other value I will assign 18, and so on I don't think I can use CASE statement for this since I have many values to be updated. I tried to use multiple UPDATE/SET statements but it didn't work.

• Javascript Getting specific element (of parent) by name

  I'm using custom tags to define sections in an application, so I have something like this: <mysection> <form> <input name="myfield"> </form> </mysection> I'm using the following and able to get the tag (printed to console, everything is groovy) var parent = document.getElementsByTagName('mysection'); The issue I'm having is finding the child field by name: var myfield = parent.getElementsByName("myfield"); ...as I don't want to pick up on any other 'sections' that might have an input with the name 'myfield'. EDIT: var parent = document.getElementsByTagName('mysection')[0]; was suggested and returns to console the section contents, however, getElementsByName throws an error: Uncaught TypeError: Object #<NodeList> has no method 'getElementsByName'
