• Tomcat6 Manager Webapp is 404 on apt-get install on Ubuntu 10.10

  http://localhost:8080/manager/html gives a 404 error on apt-get install of tomcat6 (6.0.28 on JVM 1.6.0_20-b20 on 2.6.35-27-generic amd64). http://localhost:8080/host-manager/html works. • virt-install error: Host does not support any virtualization options

  Completed CentOS 5.4 perfect install from howtoforge.com (ISPConfig 3). I have ISPConfig 3 deployed with a handful of sites. I installed xen: yum install xen kernel-xen i installed the recommended (linuxtopia.org) virtualization packages and started libvirtd yum install virt-manager libvirt libvirt-python libvirt-python python-virtinst i have damn small linux .iso in /root virt-install --name damnsmall --ram 16 --file=/var/lib/xen/images/damnsmall.img --file-size=1 --vnc --cdrom=/root/current.iso yields the error: ERROR Host does not support any virtualization options i have also tried this from GNOME (virt-manager) and i cant even add a connection. i read somewhere i need to reboot with the xen kernel--i dont think i want to do that--though, not really sure why. i need to keep ISPConfig untouched. Thanks in advance, and let me know if you need additional info

• Microsoft Office documents collaboration - Open Source alternative

  I am looking for a good solution to collaborate on Microsoft Office documents, we currently just edit directly on a Samba share but it's one big mess because sometimes people leave the office with their laptops while docs are open so swap files remain there and then you nobody is sure what's going on. Is there any good and simple open source solution based on Linux? I've tried Alfresco but it is much more than what I need, we got an internal wiki for most collaboration and I just need some solution for the stuff we need to do in Microsoft Office (mostly Excel files, the rest is in the wiki) EDIT: Some more info as requested - we are very small group, 4 full time employees and a few freelancers. The best idea I've got so far is just managing it in a subversion repository with a Lock-Modify-Lock policy but I'd love to hear about better solutions. Thanks!

• Very large database, very small portion most being retrieved in real time

  Hi folks, I have an interesting database problem. I have a DB that is 150GB in size. My memory buffer is 8GB. Most of my data is rarely being retrieved, or mainly being retrieved by backend processes. I would very much prefer to keep them around because some features require them. Some of it (namely some tables, and some identifiable parts of certain tables) are used very often in a user facing manner How can I make sure that the latter is always being kept in memory? (there is more than enough space for these) More info: We are on Ruby on rails. The database is MYSQL, our tables are stored using INNODB. We are sharding the data across 2 partitions. Because we are sharding it, we store most of our data using JSON blobs, while indexing only the primary keys

• External USB drive is failing

  I have an external USB 2.0 drive WD My Book Mirror Edition, running in RAID 1 (mirroring) mode. A while ago the hard drive started to fail: it stops responding (directories are not listed returning an error after a big timeout). Sometimes it works for weeks before a failure, sometimes – few hours. Small write operations (like removing few files or editing a small file) do not harm, but when copying large files to the drive over the network, or creating the archive locally, the kernel dumps. Also interesting to note that once kernel has failed, Linux does not want to reboot normally (reboot hangs); when Linux box is shutdown with power button, WD drive does not go to sleep mode (as it usually does): leds continue to run, pressing and holding the "shutdown" button on drive's back panel does not do anything; only unplugging the power cord helps. I have browsed and read similar error reports here and there and I tried: I have upgraded the kernel from v2.6.26-2 to 2.6.32-5, which has not solved the problem. They say, this might a cable problem. I have tried to replace the USB-to-miniUSB cable (that connects external drive with computer) with another one. No changes. Somebody suggests to try another USB port. I have only 4 external USB ports, tried another one with no success. They say to try uhci_hcd. I have unmounted the device, unloaded ehci_hcd and mounted again. The difference was that now in log I get reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 and similar kernel dumps after a while. They say to echo 128 > /sys/block/sdb/device/max_sectors. I tried it with ehci_hcd with no success (note: I have issued this command after the drive was mounted but before using it actively). I have lauched smartmond and checking periodically the output of smartctl: drive temperature is OK, number of bad sectors and uncorrectable errors is 0. When i set the flag passenger_use_global_queue I get an error [emerg]: "passenger_use_global_queue" directive is not allowed here in nginx.conf:22". Does anyone know the propper place to put passenger_use_global_queue, or to get rid of the error message? • Assigning a home DNS to be secondary only?

  Hi. I have a small domain lab set up at home, including DNS/DHCP on the Win2008 server. I'd like to be able to refer to my domain clients by name, but I find that I get a slowdown when using an internal DNS. Win DNS refers to my ISP's upstream dns (I also tried Google's DNS servers for a little while) but it feels like there's an extra couple seconds for each request when I'm using anything except the DNS servers fetched via DHCP from my ISP. I tried adding my local DNS to my router's DHCP (Need to use router to fetch DHCP info from ISP, even though none of it ever changes, since I'm behind NAT) So, my question is: Is there any way to set my internal DNS server to be secondary to a dynamically retrieved upstream DNS? I want the internal server to be queried only if the ISP dns fails, or to be queried only for a certain TLD (.iv right now. I guess for best practices I should change it to .internal)

  I have just started to work with F5's Big-IP and I have a question about iRules and HTTP redirects. We are moving to offload our SSL from our web servers and onto the F5, our application as it stands enforces a number of pages on our site to only run in HTTPS. I want to move this from the APP and onto the F5 but I have not been able to figure our how, so as an example I would want anyone trying to login in to be forced to use HTTPS e.g. http://"mysite"/login.aspx = https://"mysite"/login.aspx. I have done some google searches that have come up with some good info on this but I have yet to find what I am looking for, if anyone has done this and wishes to share this with me that would be great

  When I try and start my app I get this error. I have verified that JarScanner exists in the CATALINA_HOME directory so I dont know why it cant find it. Is there anything that could lead to this issue starting my app?   Attempting to implement client authentication with an SSL cert. http://www.modssl.org/docs/2.8/ssl_howto.html#auth-selective Receive the following errors. Apache: Re-negotiation handshake failed: Not accepted by client!? Firefox: ssl_error_handshake_failure_alert I assume it is a configuration error, but have not been able to locate it. Additional info: Commercial CA server cert servers secure works without problem in Apache 2.2 & Passenger. Only client authentication related directives do not work.

  I have troubles installing VC runtime libraries to be able to install SQL Server Compact Edition. The same problem causes also other apps to fail when installing, but I chose this one as a good representative example of my problem (and also it's provided by Microsoft, so "installation should work"). I took a look at what is usually provided as logs/more information and I put on Dropbox on this location: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7zh7ajn50cxz7km/logs.zip 2 logs: installation log with more info procmon log of non-success and non-"result not found" while doing the installation step Any idea what could be the cause and how to fix it?

• Installing trunk Mono on Ubuntu

  I am quite new to linux. I have to install Mono on a linux machine from souce code. I know the general method: read-instructions, install-dependencies, ./configure, make, make install. However this approach doesn't fit into the general Ubuntu package management routine. Other programs I install from .debs won't be able to notice the version of Mono. Also I can't remove Mono using standard Ubuntu package management tools. Is there an easy solution? I have seen that Ubuntu actually has several separate packages for the Mono project. Should I build packages from Mono? How can I follow the same conventions as the ubuntu packagers? Where should I look for info on packaging? Can you give step by step instructions? Thanks!

• NIC Teaming HP Server running Win2003

  Hello everyone. I'm new to server NIC TEaming. I have a HP ProLiant DL360 G4p running Win2003 with 2 NICs , only one is currently active. I'd like to activate the 2nd NIC connected (in a active/passive state) to a 2nd switch with only one IP address and ideally only one mac layer address. The 1st switch is a Cisco 2960G and the 2nd is a Cisco C3560G. There are VLANS, RSTP and PAGP in use already. Can someone give me an idea, in broad terms , of what technology/protocols I should be investigating (HSRP, SLB/TLB Teaming etc.) ? I can provide more info if needed. Thanks, Colm.

• I need to get VMWare Server running inside of a VMWare ESXi virtual machine

  Yes, I know running a virtual machine inside of a virtual machine is a bad idea. Yes, I know it will be very slow. However, our production system required VMs in VMWare server and I do not want to setup a real server for each of our developers for testing. I would like to be able to setup all of the VMWare servers (that mimic our production environment) on one ESXi server. I have found as much info as I can about this topic and I have tried what was suggested here and here. I have not been able to get any of these suggestions to work, I still get the VM cannot run inside of a VM error. If there are any other suggestions that anybody else have that would be great thanks.

• Asterisk - Trying to use call files to create a conference call between two dynamic numbers

  I'm trying to setup an Asterisk system that will allow me to create a conference call between two dynamic numbers. It seems I can use 'call files' to make Asterisk initiate the call without needing an incoming call - http://www.voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=Asterisk+auto-dial+out This example seems to be what I'd need: Channel: SIP/mytrunk/12345678 MaxRetries: 2 RetryTime: 60 WaitTime: 30 Context: callme Extension: 800 Priority: 2 I can generate this file with some scripting language and then place it into the Asterisk Call File folder. The problem I'm having is: How do I call out to two numbers and join them in a conference call? The MeetMe plugin/extension seems to be what I need in terms of conference calling, I'm just unsure as to how I'd use the two together and join them. Also, is it possible to have multiple 2-person conference calls at the same time? Is setting this up as simple as setting aside X amount of 'channels' in the meetme.conf?

• Sonicwall SSL VPN: Unable to reconnect once connection drops

  One of my users is having problems with his NetExtender connection. After installing NetExtender from the portal, it connects fine -- ONCE. After that, attempting to reconnect gives Verifying user...authentication fail! and the log on the router shows: [timestamp] | Info | SSLVPN | Auth Failed: No user name in http request (message id: 1079) This seems odd to me because the user name, password and domain are entered on the NetExtender client. After this error occurs, the only way to connect again is to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall NetExtender. He can connect fine to the Sonicwall SSLVPN demo site, and a different user can connect fine to this site from a different PC. Any clues?

  Hello, I'm getting following error when using Hibernate in a Java application over my DB2 database. This error occurs with one DB2 database and not with another (I'm almost sure the problem is in DB2 server side configuration), and I didn't found the difference between the two databases. • Bypass RDP Client Warning

  How do I bypass the security warning in the RDP Client everytime you launch it from a RDP shortcut? The message title reads: "The publisher of this remote connection cannot be identified. Do you want to connect anyway?" There's a checkbox that reads: "Don't ask me again for connections to this computer" If we check that, it rights the following registry key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\LocalDevices] "MachineIP or Name"=dword:00000004 I'm trying to bypass this warning by writing this registry values before I run the RDP. The problem is that the dword value varies. I found that in one machine (Win7), it was 4, but in another machine (XP), the value was 72 decimal. Does it vary depending on your OS, or is it by the RDP client version? Other info: Signing all my RDP files is NOT an option. Checking the checkbox is NOT an option as we are trying to automate some stuff with a C# tool. Thank you

• gparted installed on OpenSuse shows all file system types as greyed out except for hfs

  I have had this problem before and fixed it, but I don't recall how I did it and I did not record it (sadness :( ) I have all the requisite commands installed on OpenSuse to support gparted's efforts in creating any of the supported file systems. I recall that the problem was that gparted could not find the commands, in any event all the file systems are greyed out in the context menu except for the legacy hfs partition which only supports < 2gb. Even extfs2-extfs4 are greyed out. How do I fix this?

• How can I find the Windows domain logon name of a user from within Outlook 2010?

  I need to figure out someone's login name for our domain, and I'd like to be able to do this from within Outlook 2010. I used to be able to do this from Outlook 2007 by right-clicking the user's name in an email message that they'd sent me, and clicking "Outlook Properties..." in the context menu. That would bring up this dialog, which contained what I need in the "alias" field: Now I've installed Outlook 2010. I want to do the same thing, but I can't seem to find a corresponding field. First, I don't see an explicit "Outlook Properties" menu option anymore, and what I think is the corresponding dialog looks completely different: It seems weird that, although I'm looking at the properties of my own name in the same email message in 2007 and 2010 in these screenshots, my name is shown differently in each -- Chris versus Christopher. That makes me think that Outlook isn't really looking in the same place to get this info in each case. So, can I get that "alias" field from within Outlook 2010?

• Unlock file on Windows Server 2003 without rebooting

  We've several Windows Server 2003 machines running, each with its own purposes. There are scheduled jobs which synchronizes some files over SFTP using WinSCP. Very sometimes a newly copied file is left locked in the "inbox" folder without any reason. The machine's own background task (programmed in Java) can't move it to the "processed" folder anymore after processing it. Manually moving it only yields the well known error message Cannot move [filename]: it is being used by another person or program. The only resort is to reboot the machine, but we would of course like to avoid that. Any suggestions? I tried Unlocker which works fine locally at WinXP, but doesn't work at those Win2K3 machines by remote desktop (unlock option doesn't show up in rightclick context menu).

• mono: application not running when web.config in subfolder

  I run asp.net on mono. I wanted to run blogengine: http://www.dotnetblogengine.net/ I downloaded, put it in /var/www/blogengine, on the console went to /var/www/blogengine and started xsp2. I went to http://localhost:8080, and it ran without problems. Then I stopped xsp2, went to /var/www and started xsp2. I went to http://localhost:8080/blogengine It ended with a strange error: The section <blogProvider> can't be defined in this configuration file (the allowed definition context is 'MachineToApplication'). (/var/www/blogengine/Web.Config line 9) The problem seems to be that it stops working as soon as the xsp2 root folder is anything else than the application root folder... Do I have to config anything ? Or what else is wrong ?
