C# Can I return HttpWebResponse result to iframe - Uses Digest authentication

I am trying to figure out a way to display a cross-domain web page that uses Digest Authentication. My initial thought was to make a web request and return the entire page source. I currently have no issues with authenticating and getting a response but I am not sure how to properly return the needed data. // Create a request for the URL. WebRequest request = WebRequest.Create("http://some-url/cgi/image.php?type=live"); // Set the credentials. request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(username, password); // Get the response. HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); // Get the stream containing content returned by the server. Stream dataStream = response.GetResponseStream(); // Open the stream using a StreamReader for easy access. StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(dataStream); // Read the content. string responseFromServer = reader.ReadToEnd(); // Clean up the streams and the response. reader.Close(); dataStream.Close(); response.Close(); return responseFromServer; My problems are currently... responseFromServer is not returning the entire source of the page. I.E. missing body and head tags The data is encoded improperly in responseFromServer. I believe this has something to do with the transfer encoding being of the type chunked. Further more... I am not entirely sure if this is even possible. If it matters, this is being done in ASP.NET MVC 4 C#. Thanks, Chad

Svcutil.exe for .Net 4.0?

I was trying to use svcutil.exe to generate proxy classes for a service but when I use the /reference option to reference an assembly that is built for .Net 4.0 I get an error. Could not load file or assembly [...] or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. So it seems that I am using an old version of svcutil.exe. I am using the one in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A which was the latest one I could find. Is there a later version somewhere that I am supposed to use?

I am developing a website(web forms , not MVC) in VS 2008(with SP1 ).I am trying to incorporate the ASP.NET Routing.I am following the MSDN tutorial to do it. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc668201.aspx I have added the below items to my glbal.asax.cs file as per the tutorial protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); } public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.Add(new Route ( "Category/{action}/{categoryName}" , new CategoryRouteHandler() )); } When trying to build it is telling like "The type or namespace name 'RouteCollection' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) I have System.web imported to my global.asax file Any Idea how to get rid of it ?

I recently came across the AsyncFileUpload control in the latest (3.0.40412) release of the ASP.Net Ajax Control Toolkit. There appears to be an issue when using it in a hidden control that is later revealed, such as a <div> tag with visible=false. I'm getting this error while running my ASP.NET app on IIS7. I've tried doing what it says to do but it doesn't help. IEnumerable<T> and reflection

Background Working in .NET 2.0 Here, reflecting lists in general. I was originally using t.IsAssignableFrom(typeof(IEnumerable)) to detect if a Property I was traversing supported the IEnumerable Interface. (And thus I could cast the object to it safely) However this code was not evaluating to True when the object is a BindingList<T>. Next I tried to use t.IsSubclassOf(typeof(IEnumerable)) and didn't have any luck either. (Already Working) Once inside this function, given the object the property resides on, and the PropertyInfo related, get the value of the property, cast it to an IEnumerable (assuming it's possible) and then iterate through each child and call ReflectObject(...) on the child with the count variable.

Send Email via Google Apps in C#

Hello, I am trying to send a basic email through Google Apps/Gmail using C# (System.Net.Mail/Framework 4) and I am having trouble doing so. I am receiving the following exception: "The operation has timed out." My code is below: //Create the mail message MailMessage mail = new MailMessage(); //Set the addresses mail.From = new MailAddress("[email protected]", "My Name"); mail.To.Add(Email); //Set the subject and bodycontent mail.Subject = "Email Testing"; mail.Body = "This is the body of the email"; //Send the message using the SmtpClient SmtpClient smtp = new SmtpClient(); smtp.EnableSsl = true; smtp.Send(mail); My web.config has the following settings: <smtp from="[email protected]" deliveryMethod="Network"> <network host="smtp.gmail.com" password="password" port="587" userName="[email protected]" /> </smtp> During my troubleshooting I have tried: Using my personal gmail address as well as another from a domain hosted through Google Apps. Using ports 25, 465, and 587 Hard coding the config settings in the c# code instead of using the web.config Sending and telneting from multiple network locations to ensure the firewall/ISP was not blocking it Ensured that POP was enabled in the GMail settings (according to Google this should turn on the ability to send using SMTP) Changing the send from and replyTo address to ensure they match the account (apparently a GMail necessity). I am able to send and receive email fine through the GMail interface for both of my email accounts. I have also tried the settings and solutions offered in Question # 757987 to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

Properly registering JavaScript and CSS in MVC 2 Editor Templates

How do I properly register javascript blocks in an ASP.NET MVC 2 (RTM) Editor template? The specific scenario I'm in is that I want to use Dynarch JSCal2 DateTimePicker for my standard datetime picker, but this question is in general to any reusable javascript package. I have my template working properly now but it has my JS and CSS includes in my master page and I would rather only include these things if I actually need them: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../../Content/JSCal2-1.7/jscal2.css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../../Content/JSCal2-1.7/border-radius.css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="../../Scripts/JSCal2-1.7/jscal2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="../../Scripts/JSCal2-1.7/lang/en.js"></script> So obviously I could just put these lines into my template, but then if I have a screen that has 5 DateTimePickers, then this content would be duplicated 5 times which wouldn't be ideal. Anyways, I still want my View's Template to trigger this code being put into the <head> of my page. jQuery AJAX slow in Firefox, fast in IE

I'm using jQuery to post to an ASP .NET Web Service to implement a custom auto-complete function. The code works great, except it's slow in FireFox (can't get it to go faster than 1 second). IE is blazing fast - works great. I watch the post in Firefox using Firebug. Can a masterpage reference another masterpage with the same content and contentplaceholder tags?

Current Setup I currently have three masterpages and content pages in the following hierarchy : One root-level masterpage that displays the final result. Call this "A" Two sibling pages that don't reference each other but contain all the same contentplaceholder elements, just in a different order with different <div>'s surrounding them. Both reference the root-level masterpage. Call these "B1" and "B2". Several content pages that reference one or the other sibling master pages above (not both). Call these "C1" through "C-whatever". Basically I have: Cn = B1 = A Cm = B2 = A This hierarchy works fine. Desired Setup What I want to do is add in a new level to this hierarchy (a new master page) between the content pages and the sibling masterpages. Basically so it's like this: One root-level masterpage that displays the final result. Two sibling pages plus a third sibling. Call it B3 A new middle masterpage that dynamically 'chooses' one of the sibling masterpages. The desired behaviour is to pass through the content given by C directly to Bn without modifying it. The only thing D actively does is choose which Bn. Call this new masterpage D. Several content pages that reference the new middle master page instead of the old siblings. The challenge to this is, I'm working within the confines of a rather complex product and I cannot change the original two sibling masterpages (B1 and B2) or content pages (C) in any meaningful way. I want: Cn = D = B1 = A Cm = D = B2 = A Ck = D = B3 = A Essentially, D should "pass through" all it's content to whichever B-level masterpage it chooses. I can't put this logic in the C-level pages. Additional Details All B-level pages have the same content/contentplaceholder tags, just ordered and styled differently. D can be as convoluted as it has to be, so long as it doesn't require modifying C or B. I'm using ASP.Net 2.0 Is this possible?

AutoMapper a viable alternative to two way databinding using a FormView?

I've started using the FormView control to enable two way databinding in asp.net webforms. I liked that it saved me the trouble of writing loadForm and unloadForm routines on every page. So it seemed to work nicely at the start when I was just using textboxes everywhere....but when it came time to start converting some to DropDownLists, all hell broke lose. For example, see: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2435185/not-possible-to-load-dropdownlist-on-formview-from-code-behind ....and I had many additional problems after that. So I happened upon an article on AutoMapper, which I know very little about yet, but from the sounds of it, this might be a viable alternative to two-way databinding a form to an domain entity object? From what I understand, AutoMapper basically operates on naming convention, so, it will look for matched names properties(?) on the source and destination objects. So, basically, I have all my domain entities (ie: Person) with properties (FirstName, LastName, Address, etc)....what I would like to be able to do is declare my asp controls with those exact same names, and have automapper do the loading and unloading. One obvious caveat is that AutoMapper would have to know the proper property name for each control type, ie: Person.FirstName -- form.FirstName*.Text* Person.Country -- form.Country.SelectedValue Person.IsVerified -- form.IsVerified.Checked ....so it would have to have the smarts to find the control on the form, determine its type, and then load/unload between the domain object and the webform control into the proper property of the control. So if this worked, a person could just get rid of the cursed FormView control entirely, and it would be just one line of code each for binding and unbinding a webform. Possible?

Hi, I have a telerik grid which is performing operations like searching,sorting,filtering etc. To make customers happy, we put this control in an ajax panel for seamless experience. Now, we added a new functionality to the grid where the customer can download the entire row information as a csv file. As the response is a file, ajax panel is trying to parse the output and throwing the following exception: Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled. Details: Error parsing near '?'. Could you please help me in having both functionalities( Ajax and Download) in place without any error?? Thanks, Mahesh

How to parse out MS Word formatting?

I have a rich html textbox on my asp.net mvc application. The rich html textbox is some jquery plugin that I use and has basic stuff like bold,underline and etc. Now I am anticipating that people will maybe write something in word and then copy and paste it into my textbox. However I limit the number of characters a person can have. This is a test to show how much formatting gets made. • One • Two • Three So I wrote that above(it does not copy to well into here). Basically it is a line of text and "how" is bold and the "one,two,three" are a bullet list. Word says it is 70 characters long with spacing. Model validation with enumerations

I'm using DataAnnotations attributes to validate my model objects. My model class looks similar to this: public class MyModel { [Required] public string Title { get; set; } [Required] public List<User> Editors { get; set; } } public class User { public int Id { get; set; } [Required] public string FullName { get; set; } [Required] [DataType(DataType.Email)] public string Email { get; set; } } My controller action looks like: public ActionResult NewItem(MyModel data) { //... } User is presented with a view that has a form with: a text box with dummy name where users enter user's names. For each user they enter, there's a client script coupled with ajax that creates an <input type="hidden" name="data.Editors[0].Id" value="userId" /> for each user entered (enumeration index is therefore not always 0 as written here), so default model binder is able to consume and bind the form without any problems. a text box where users enter the title Since I'm using Asp.net MVC 2 RTM which does model validation instead of input validation I don't know how to avoid validation errors. The thing is I have to use BindAttribute on my controller action. I would have to either provide a white or a black list of properties. It's always a better practice to provide a white list. It's also more future proof. The problem My form works fine, but I get validation errors about user's FullName and Email properties since they are not provided. I also shouldn't feed them to the client (via ajax when user enters user data), because email is personal contact data and is not shared between users. If there was just a single user reference on MyModel I would write [Bind(Include = "Title, Editor.Id")] But I have an enumeration of them. How do I provide Bind white list to work with my model?

An unhandled exception of type 'System.StackOverflowException' occurred in mscorlib.dll

Ok the thing is that I am using asp.net mvc with linq to sql. I have a scenario where there are two tables group and features with many to many relationship with the third table groupfeatures. I have drag and drop all three table in the dbml file. Where to get apache poi port for .net

I would like to know if there is a website where I could download the Apache POI ported for .net? I already found this link in the web http://www.apache.org/~avik/dist/poi-2.5.1-dev-20040708.dll But the version of apache poi now is 3.6, I was wondering if there is a latest version out there? Does the apache foundation support such porting? I already tried to search the apache website too with no avail. As for using Microsoft library, the excel interopt is not that good for concurrent processing like a web backend. If I use the DocumentFormat.OpenXML library, I have a limitation of creating office 2007 document only.

Html.LabelFor and Html.TextBoxFor generate empy html code

I'm writing my first ASP.NET MVC application and there is one big problem for me. I want to make a control which will represent a form, but when I try to generate labels and textboxes it returns to me empty page. Can't get NUnit to work in Visual Web Develper 2010 express.

First off I was wondering whether it's possible to implement a functionality with Nunit where each time a project is created in Visual Web Developer 2010 I get a dialog asking whether I want to create a unit test project for current application like I saw it happen in the older versions of Visual Web Developer. I've tried just about everything to get NUnit 2.5.5 to work in Visual Web Developer 2010. For example, in nunit.exe.config I added under configuration <startup> <requiredRuntime version="v4.0.30319" /> </startup> and under runtime: <loadFromRemoteSources enabled="true" /> I then tried to launch nunit-console.exe in order to specify in the command line the option /framework=net-4.0, but the console would appear and instantly disappear. It didn't help when I tried running it as an administrator. I've also tried using Nunit as an external tool inside the Visual Web Developer by creating a toolbar as described in the following link: http://www.marthijnvandenheuvel.com/2010/06/09/using-nunit-in-visual-studio-2010/. It shows up as an icon in the toolbar. I ran my project called ToyStore and then clicked Nunit icon in order to launch it and it gave me a "System.IO.FileNotFoundException:Assembly not found:ToyStore.dll". So, needless to say, I'm pretty lost and don't know what to do and would greatly appreciate any help in getting Nunit to work.

Class Structure w/ LINQ, Partial Classes, and Abstract Classes

I am following the Nerd Dinner tutorial as I'm learning ASP.NET MVC, and I am currently on Step 3: Building the Model. One part of this section discusses how to integrate validation and business rule logic with the model classes. All this makes perfect sense. However, in the case of this source code, the author only validates one class: Dinner. What I am wondering is, say I have multiple classes that need validation (Dinner, Guest, etc). It doesn't seem smart to me to repeatedly write these two methods in the partial class: public bool IsValid { get { return (GetRuleViolations().Count() == 0); } } partial void OnValidate(ChangeAction action) { if (!IsValid) { throw new ApplicationException("Rule violations prevent saving."); } } What I'm wondering is, can you create an abstract class (because "GetRuleViolations" needs to be implemented separately) and extend a partial class? I'm thinking something like this (based on his example): public partial class Dinner : Validation { public IEnumerable<RuleViolation> GetRuleViolations() { yield break; } } This doesn't "feel" right, but I wanted to check with SO to get opinions of individuals smarter than me on this. I also tested it out, and it seems that the partial keyword on the OnValidate method is causing problems (understandably so). This doesn't seem possible to fix (but I could very well be wrong). SqlBulkCopy causes Deadlock on SQL Server 2000.

I have a customized data import executable in .NET 3.5 which the SqlBulkCopy to basically do faster inserts on large amounts of data. The app basically takes an input file, massages the data and bulk uploads it into a SQL Server 2000. It was written by a consultant who was building it with a SQL 2008 database environment. Would that env difference be causing this? SQL 2000 does have the bcp utility which is what BulkCopy is based on. So, When we ran this, it triggered a Deadlock error. Error details: Transaction (Process ID 58) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction. I've tried numerous ways to try to resolve it. like temporarily setting the connection string variable MultipleActiveResultSets=true, which wasn't ideal, but it still gives a Deadlock error. I also made sure it wasn't a connection time out problem. here's the function. ASP.net dealing issues with production system

First time i am going to work on (maintenance project) application that is already in production.The application was developed in ASP.net 3.5/C# 3.0(web forms) with jQuery,Ajax,Sql server 2005 and microsoft enterprise library 4.0.,WCF services. Questions (bear with me if my question is wrong) 1) Is it possible to use Visual Studio (2008 with SP1) to debug the remote application (i.e already in production)?.What are the tools do i need to use in order to keep track the things in case something went wrong? 2) Simply looking into Log file ,will solve the issues? 3) After having done with enhancements,is it possible to directly deploy the DLLs into production server.Won't it affect the running application? Please guide me what are the procedures i need to follow.Client is ready to provide any tools for my support.(What are the area do i need to aware to handle production system) Thanks in advance.

Display page numbers in a excel sheet generated using C#.NET

Hello Stackers Does anyone have an idea on how to include or input the page numbers in the excel sheet generated using C# code. I use the libraries available in Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel to generate the file. However by default in the output i cannot see the page numbers. I know to enable this via excel options (View -- Header and Footer ...) but i want to automate this via C#. Is this possible, if yes kindly share the snippet for the same. Thanks Constant Learner
