  • How do I recover JPEGs with no file size?

    I downloaded some wedding photos into my external drive about a month ago. A total of 3 cards were downloaded into 3 different files. The first file lists all of the photos, about 600 images, but they have zero bytes. The other 2 files are fine. I can't recover the compact flash card because I have used it too many times since then. Is there any way to recover the images on my drive?

I have created a separate vlan and configured the proxy but not sure how i can route all traffic through this. The aim of this task is create a test network which makes users appear in the location of the proxy server. (with the external ip address of the proxy) Is this possible and how should i do this.   • Is there a decent diagram of packet flow for a modern era (2.6+) iptables setup?

    I'm currently trying to debug a particularly hairy set of DNAT based iptables rules (the UDP reply never makes it back to the original requester) and I'm struggling to visualise the packet flow through all the numerous tables involved. So far Google'ing has shown me old 2.4 based ipchains ones. The netfilter site has some good text docs but is short on diagrams and a number of the external links are now dead. So is there a canonical diagram for iptables packet flow, preferably showing how NAT/Masqueraded packets are also dealt with?

    Whenever I enable TCP/IP connections on my SQL Server Express 2008 database server running on Windows XP SP3, I cannot restart the service, it simply states "The request failed or did respond in a timely fashion".   • Windows 7 booting and startup repair issues

    I have a MSI FR720 laptop with Windows 7 and Lubuntu partions. For quite a while (6 months or so) I've been having issues booting from my hard drive, it'd take me between 5 minutes and several hours for me to be able to have it recognize the hard drive as a bootable device. I did several disk checks on it, and my hard drive seems in perfect condition, and the fact that booting would usually only work after removing the hard drive and trying to reset it in its slot or lightly shaking it makes me think it had something to do with the connection in the hard drive slot as opposed to the hard drive itself. I was having particular issues with it detecting the hard drive today so I decided to try booting it from an external hard drive dock. It detected it first try and so far has had no problems finding the bootable partitions on my hard drive. When I selected my Windows 7 partition from the boot menu it said that it hadn't been shut down properly last time and needed startup repair. I've done this several times over the last 6 months, so this is hardly unusual. I do startup repair, it fails, and then I try to do a system restore. The system restore also failed, and it says that no files were changed. I restart and try it again. However, this time when I get to the startup repair it's not detecting a Windows OS. I tried clicking next and doing a startup repair but the repair is always failing. If I ignore the startup repair option and instead select "Launch windows normally" it will get to the windows animation, stop halfway through and then crash into a BSoD. I can't read the error on the screen because it immediately switches to back and tries to restart. This is my first time asking a question like this online, so let me know if I need to provide any extra information and I'll do my best to give it I tried using diskpart to find the list of partitions and see if one's labelled as an active partition, but it says that no disk were detected. I can run Lubuntu just fine. I can also see all of my Windows 7 files from it EDIT: The startup repair diagnosis and repair log is this: -- Number of repair attempts: 1 Session details System Disk = Windows directory = AutoChk Run = 0 Number of root causes = 1 Test Performed: Name: Check for updates Result: Completed successfully. If a hard disk is installed, it is not responding. -- Any chance that this is a result of me doing this through an external dock through a USB drive?

  • Encrypt windows 8 file history

    File history is great but it saves your files on the external drive without any encryption and stores them using the exact same folder structure as the originals. If a bad guy gets his hands on the hard drive it could basically not be easier to get to your important files. Is there any way to encrypt the file history backup without breaking its functionality and without having to encrypt the original content itself? Thanks for your input!

  • Efficient mirroring of directories using hard links [closed]

    I'm backing up my music collection on to a number of NTFS-formatted external hard-drives; however, as I store my main collection in FLAC and have my library on my laptop as MP3s to save space, I want to be able to back up both sets, because mass conversion between formats is time-consuming. The "music" directory can contain any format; the "mp3s" directory contains only MP3s converted from files in the "music" directory. The music collection on the laptop contains only MP3s, but they come from both sources. When I backup my laptop's library to the "mp3s" directory, I want to only copy across MP3 files that don't exist in the "music" directory; those that do should be hard-linked to the "music" directory. All directories have an identical hierarchy, sorted by artist, album, date, discnumber if applicable, etc, and I use a tagging editor to ensure consistency across all these locations. I'm also using a Linux computer, but keeping the music collections on NTFS-formatted partitions so that they are readable by both Linux and Windows. At the moment, I use the following command to perform the backups, but this is time-consuming due to the expensive nature of finding hard links. rsync -avu --progress --relative --ignore-existing --link-dest=../music/ **/*.mp3 /media/ntfspocket/mp3s Is there a way to perform this backup more efficiently, taking advantage of the directory hierarchy?

    I'm creating a SaaS platform, and I need a component / library that can create, delete and store the connection details for cloud servers. It also needs to support executing shell commands on these servers and returning the response to the caller. I want a central database of servers and their configuration, plus the ability to reach out and manage the servers via SSH execution of bash scripts. I don't want something that needs agents on every server like Chef. For example, this command is received by the hypothetical application: CREATE USER server = server12345 name = myuser It's translated into the following set of actions and executed by the app, which knows how to connect to server12345, and how to create a user on that server: $ ssh root@server12345 $ adduser myuser And returns the output from the shell: Added user myuser. I've done research on Google and can't quite quite find something that does this already. I've found: fabric This part handles the executing of the shell commands very elegantly, and can take multiple server definitions, but it's supposed to be a deployment tool so doesn't do everything that would be required above - for example, it doesn't have a daemon mode where it listens for commands - it expects to be executed on the shell. It also can't provide the central database functionality. libcloud This library can handle the server admin (CRUD) part, but doesn't have a command interface daemon either, and doesn't let you execute commands on the servers. I guess I need something that is a combination of libcloud, fabric and django for an API. Or something else that does that same thing regardless of language. Overmind Overmind is a GUI and wrapper around libcloud, but doesn't support the command execution part. What am I missing here?

  • Delphi Pascal - Using SetFilePointerEx and GetFileSizeEx, Getting Physical Media exact size when reading as a file

    I am having trouble understanding how to delcare GetFileSizeEx and SetFilePointerEx in Delphi 2009 so that I can use them since they are not in the RTL or Windows.pas. I was able to compile with the following: function GetFileSizeEx(hFile: THandle; lpFileSizeHigh: Pointer): DWORD; external 'kernel32'; Then using GetFileSizeEx(PD, Pointer(DriveSize)); to get the size. But could not get it to work, the disk handle I am using is valid and I have had no problem reading the data or working under the 2gb mark with the older API's. GetFileSize of course returns 4294967295. I have had greater trouble trying to use SetFilePointerEx with the data types it uses. The overall project needs to read the data from a flash card, which is not a problem at all I can do this. My problem is that I can not find the length or size of the media I will be reading. I have code I have used in the past to do this with media under 2GB. But now that I need to read media over 2GB it is a problem. If you still dont understand I am dumping a card with all data including the boot record, etc. This is the code I would normally use to read from the physical disk to grab say the boot record and dump it to file: SetFilePointer(PD,0,nil,FILE_BEGIN); SetLength(Buffer,512); ReadFile(PD,Buffer[0],512,BytesReturned,nil); I just need to figure out how to find the end of an 8gb card and so on as well as being able to set a file pointer beyond the 2gb barrier.   • Getting Rails Application Running Under IronRuby Rack

    Anyone else playing with ironruby? I have successfully got the IronRuby.Rails.Example project running on my local machine under IIS 5.1. I am now attempting to get my own demo rails site running in the same way. My web.config is slightly different from the example project. I am attempting to only use what was distributed with IronRuby 1.0 and what I have installed using gems.     Hey folks, I'm using ant, ivy and nexus repo manager to build and store my artifacts. I managed to get everything working: dependency resolution and publishing. Until I hit a problem... (of course!). I was publishing to a 'release' repo in nexus, which is locked to 'disable redeploy' (even if you change the setting to 'allow redeploy' (really lame UI there imo). You can imagine how pissed off I was getting when my changes weren't updating through the repo before I realised that this was happening. Anyway, I now have to switch everything to use a 'Snapshot' repo in nexus. Problem is that this messes up my publish. I've tried a variety of things, including extensive googling, and haven't got anywhere whatsoever. The error I get is a bad PUT request, error code 400. Can someone who has got this working please give me a pointer on what I'm missing.   • Jquery mobile page structure

    I built a jquery mobile site a while back and I have recently been expanding on it and noticing performance issues. I believe it is because I constructed the site using a multi-page set up where a single php file houses the following pages: **ALL_PAGES.PHP** <html> <head> /* external css and js files */ </head> <body> <div date-role="page" id="main"> <div class="page_link"> page 1 </div> <div class="page_link"> page 2 </div> <div class="page_link"> page 3 </div> </div> <div date-role="page" id="page 1"> <div class="page_link"> main </div> <div class="page_link"> page 2 </div> <div class="page_link"> page 3 </div> </div> <div date-role="page" id="page 2"> <div class="page_link"> main </div> <div class="page_link"> page 1 </div> <div class="page_link"> page 3 </div> </div> <div date-role="page" id="page 3"> <div class="page_link"> main </div> <div class="page_link"> page 1 </div> <div class="page_link"> page 2 </div> </div> </body> </html> **end ALL_PAGES.PHP ** I want to break away from this multi-page setup on one php file, and move to a setup where each page is a separate php file. To accomplish this I took the html from each page and moved it to its own php page. When that happens each page loses access to any external css and js files located on the main page. I am fairly new to JQM so any advice would be helpful.
