• Enable Session state in sharePoint 2010

  I setup a test box computer with server 2008 (standard edition, not R2 and not hyper-v editing). I then installed SharePoint 2010. I was amazed how easy the whole setup went (the prerequisites setup on the SharePoint disk made this process oh so easy – great install system). Really this was just so easy. This test box is being used for testing Access web services. I am able to well publish access applications to this test server and Access applications publish and run just fine on the web SharePoint site through an web browser. However, the only thing that does not work is when I launch a Access report. The error message I get back is This report failed to load because session state is not turned on. Here is a screen shot: I can’t seem to find the setting anywhere to turn session state on. Any hints or links on how to enable session state in SharePoint 2010 would be most appreciated.

• Timer or Thread?

  I have a method(say method1) that writes to database(sqlserver)and another method(say method2) that tries to access the same database after some time and updates the data row that was created by method1. The problem arises when method1 fails to access db due to the LAN being disconnected (this is not an exception this is a scenario that will definitely arise in my software, getting into details will make the question too complex) if method1 fails to access db method2 cannot work. What I want to do is to make method1 store values to local db instead of server if the LAN is disconnected and as soon as it enters value in local db the application should start trying to access the server after ever 10-15 seconds. What should I use timer or create a new thread?

  This is my motherboard GA-M61PME-S2 (SATA upto 3.0 Gbps) and This is my Hard Disk Samsung hd502hi Capacity 500 GB Cache 16MB Disks / Heads 1 / 2 Interface SATA 3Gb/s Spindle Speed 5400 RPM Sustained Data Rate OD 100 MB/s Average Seek 8.9 ms Average Latency 5.56 ms Data Transfer Rate 300 MB/sec Weight 470 grams Power: Idle / Seek / R-W / Spin-up 3.9W / 4.8W / 5.1W / ~24W Acoustics (sound power) 2.2 / 2.7 Bel (idle / quiet seek / performance seek) When I copy things from one partition to another they transfer at a maximum of 30 MBps. However the drive supports upto 300 MBps right ? How do I increase the transfer speeds? P.S - Using Windows XP, All partitions are NTFS.

  Hi all. I was once looking for getting the HDD serial number without using WMI, and I found it. The code I found and posted on StackOverFlow.com works very well on 32 bit Windows, both XP and Vista. The trouble only begins when I try to get the serail number on 64 bit OSs (Vista Ultimate 64, specifically). The code returns String.Empty, or a Space all the time. Anyone got an idea how to fix this? • Force sharepoint to ask for authentication

  Is there a way to force sharepoint 2010 to popup the dialog to ask the user for a username and password and not use the computers logged in user, if that user doesn't have access. We need an internal sharepoint website to not use the windows credentials, since these are computers used by many people. The windows user doesn't have access to the site, so currently it shows an access denied, click here to log in as another user. We would prefer if it just asked for credentials in a more graceful manner.

• Exposing .NET enums to COM clients{VBScript}

  Am trying create of PoC for exposing/invoking various .NET objects from COM clients. The .NET library contains some classes and Enums. Am able to successfully access the classes in VBScript but not able to access the Enums. I know that Enums are value types and hence 'CreateObject' wont work in this case. But am able to access the same Enum in VBA code. Questions: How can I access the enums in VBScript? Why does the behaviour differ in the two COM clients? • How to set up dual quadro cards on RHEL 5.5?

  I have a RHEL 5 workstation with 2 nvidia Quadro FX4500 cards, with one display attached to each card. After doing a clean install of RHEL 5.5, the second display doesnt work (it worked ok in RHEL 5.2). Neither separate X screens nor Xinerama are working. The kernel version is 2.6.18-194.el5 I've tried nvidia drivers 185.18.36 (the ones that i was using on 5.2) and the latest 260.19.36 and neither works. • HTTP Basic authentication using Authlogic or authenticate_or_request_with_http_basic for API call?

  I have a Rails 2.3.x app that implements the act_as_authentic in User model and a UserSession model as per Authlogic Github example. I am implementing an API to allow access from iPhone. Will be using HTTP Basic authentication via https (will not implement single access token). Each API call requires a username/password for the access. I am able to access the API by calling http://username:password@localhost:3000/books.xml for example. Authlogic will not persist if using the single access token. But I am using HTTP Basic which I think Authlogic will create session for the API calls, which is not used for my API methods. So for each API call I made, new session object is created. Thus appear to me that this would load up the server resource pretty quickly. Sounds like a bad idea. The alternative is to use the Rails authenticate_or_request_with_http_basic for API controllers. Example adding a before_filter: def require_http_auth_user authenticate_or_request_with_http_basic do |username, password| if @current_user = User.find_by_email(username) @current_user.valid_password?(password) else false end end end This will bypass the Authlogic UserSession and just use the User model. But this will involve using separate authentication codes in the app. Anyone has any comments and can share their experience? Thanks

  I have a webserver with multiple domain and user accounts setup. Recently I renamed one of the domain names and changed it's username correspondingly. However, this new user cannot access the data from the domain because it does not have the required permissions. How can I solve this problem? I've tried chown and I still cannot get access to the files. I have SSH root access and this is the only way I can actually move/touch the files but the webserver displays the file through another username which does not have access to the files. Thanks

  I've got an old Juniper SSG5 running ScreenOS 5.4.0r6.0. Once a day, more or less, it'll start randomly dropping packets at a rate of ~5-10%. We currently solve this issue by simply rebooting the unit, after which it resumes working in perfect condition. As this error has started appearing randomly, without any configuration or hardware changes, I'm assuming I've got an aging unit about to fail. As such, I've got a replacement SSG5 running ScreenOS 6.0. I've dumped the config on the 5.4 and imported it into a clean 6.0, and it seems to gladly accept it, and all my configuration seems to be A-OK. However, upon connecting the new unit, all outside-initiated connections seem to be blocked. If I browse our external IP from the inside, everything works perfectly, and it's not just port 80, SSH, Crashplan - all of our policies route correctly. All normal networking, initiated from the inside, work perfectly as well. If on the other hand I browse our external IP from the outside, everything is blocked. Barring differences between ScreenOS 5.4 and 6.0, the config is identical. • Question about MySQLdb, OS X 10.5, and authentication

  I'm a noob at Python and have been having problems with MySQLdb and OS X Leopard 10.5. I have a php app that is doing db access just fine with pdo but also want to access with Python. When I use the same credentials with MySQLdb as php, I get the following error: File "build/bdist.macosx-10.5-i386/egg/MySQLdb/connections.py", line 188, in __init__ _mysql_exceptions.OperationalError: (1045, "Access denied for user 'arc_db'@'localhost' (using password: YES)") The authentication piece works fine on my ubuntu server (installed via apt-get) implying that it is something specific to my OS X MySQLdb install. Looking at some postings, I thought it would be my local build of MySQLdb which seems to be problematic with OS X. But I am able to import fine: Python 2.5.1 (r251:54863, Feb 6 2009, 19:02:12) [GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5465)] on darwin Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import MySQLdb >>> Also, wanting to create a positive, I am able to access and return results from a database tilted test_something (which presumably bypasses the MySQL's authtentication - not sure exactly how though). • Looking for an open source email archiving application

  I'm looking for an open source application that will archive my email. It might do this by logging in to my POP3 account on a regular basis and copying the emails across, or it might just read my Unix mbox/maildir file/directory directly on the mail server. It must be open and it must run on Linux (or any open OS actually). Ideally, it would have a web interface, but this is not a major requirement. MXsense (http://www.mxsense.com/mxsense.html) seems to be pretty-much what I want, except it's not open. I have no requirement for MS Exchange support. Any suggestions? The rationale (maybe a bit silly) is that I run Linux exclusively and it's still doesn't have an email client that is anywhere close to MS Outlook in terms of awesomeness, so I find myself switching between mail clients often. I would feel better about this if I had an archive of my emails, so it wouldn't matter which mail client I was using this month.

• Ensure a new session every time the user connects to a Servlet

  Hi, I've a JSP/Servlet Web App that consist of more than one servlet (and some JSPs) I need to create an new HttpSession whenever the users access servlet A, knowing that, servlet A is the home page (i.e. he access it as the first servlet/page in the application) so far so good, I can write the following code at the start of the servlet A: HttpSession session = request.getSession(false); if (session == null) { logger.debug("starting new session..."); session = request.getSession(); // other staff here } But the problem is, if the user didn't close his browser (even if he closes the tab - in firefox for instance - the session will still be open), so when he try to open my site again, the last session will be re-used (in the rage of session timeout ofcourse), and this I don't need. I need whenever he access Servlet A, he got created a brand new HttpSession. but unfortunately, he may access this servlet twice per session based on some scenario!! Please help.

• confusion about transactions and msdtc

  I have some basic confusion about how transactions and msdtc work together. I have a basic server/client winforms app. The app uses transactionscope to encapsulate several sql commands that are executed on the sql server. The app seemed to work fine when I enabled msdtc network access on the server only. Then one day it stopped working saying network access was not enabled. Now it seems that I have to enable msdtc network access on both the client computer and server for transactionscope to work. Does the client or server msdtc service do the transaction work? Or maybe its both? Does anyone have guidance on whether msdtc network access is needed on both client and server or just server?

  I'm writing a Visual Studio editor extension using the VS 2010 SDK RC. I'd like to be able to figure out what the references of the current project are. How do I get access to the project corresponding to the current editor? The documentation on editor extensions doesn't seem to include information on how to access non-editor parts of Visual Studio. I did some searching and it looks like in VS2008 you could write add-ins that would access the project system, but I'm trying to get at this functionality from a MEF editor extension.

• Can IIS admin change password of Windows Service account

  We have a service account defined for anonymous access which is used for several web sites hosted on the web server. This account has access to several network resources like report server, file servers and so on. While deploying a new web site, we used the same service account for anonymous access. IIS takes the username/password for the account and then a dialog opens for confirm password. Accidently, we gave a wrong password in both the text boxes, the new site with wrong password is working fine but all other previously hosted sites which were using the service account, started giving the unautorized access error. Is it possible that when we entered wrong password for the new web site, the password of the account got reset and all sites stopped functioning?

  Hi this is a discussion between me and me to understand isolated storage issue. can you help me to convince me about isolated storage!! This is a code written in windows form app (reader) that read the isolated storage of another win form app (writer) which is signed. where is the security if the reader can read the writer's file, I thought only signed code can access the file! If all .Net applications born equal and have all permissions to access Isolated storage, where is the security then? If I can install and run Exe from isolated storage, why I don't install a virus and run it, I am trusted to access this area. but the virus or what ever will not be trusted to access the rest of file system, it only can access the memory, and this is dangerous enough. I cannot see any difference between using app data folder to save the state and using isolated storage except a long nasty path!! I want to try give low trust to Reader code and retest, but they said "Isolated storage is actually created for giving low trusted application the right to save its state". • Is there a plugin for default file location in sublime text 2?

  Is there a plugin (or a setting) in Sublime Text 2 to set the default file location for saving files? As of now, when I open Sublime Text 2 for the first time, create a file and try to save it, the file location option defaults to: C:\Windows\System32 I would like to set the default save file location to my Desktop so that everytime I want to save a file, the File windows opens the Desktop view. (the same idea as what can be configured e.g. in MS Word / MS Excel). Thanks for any tips!

It uses restricted APIs, so I obtained a key from RIM and applied it via the Java Development Environment. When I attempt to run on my phone (BB Curve, 8520. • Using Google AppEngine app as a OAuth provider

  Hi, I'm using the Google AppEngine 1.3.4 SDK which offers to allow your application to act as a OAuth service provider (http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/python/oauth/). Setting up a standard application on my localhost and using the following: Request URL /_ah/OAuthGetRequestToken Authorize URL /_ah/OAuthAuthorizeToken Access Token URL /_ah/OAuthGetAccessToken The client application just gets sent to a page requesting to grant OAuth access even though no user is logged in. Clicking 'Grant access' results in a message saying 'OAuth access granted' with no tokens or anything exchange. Can't see how this could work when it's not even prompting for a login. As this functionality is quite new I can't find much out there. I've created a OAuth provider before in Rails and know that you need a Consumer Key and Secret, something that seems to be lacking in GAE? Any ideas on how to get OAuth working in a sample GAE project are most welcome.
