    I installed NetBeans 6.8 and tried to run the GlasshFish V3 server. I'm working under Windows Vista 32 Bits. First, it won't run.   • Converting a Word document to LaTeX format

    I'm preparing a book to be published and keeping everything in .docx files. Other than text the files include graphs (jpeg) and lots of equations typed in MathType. Since MS Word is not fully appropriate to balance text and shapes according to book format, some pages are having spacings at the bottom after some text, and then comes a shape on the next page. I know that LaTeX is very good at formatting, so is it possible to convert MS Word documents (or PDF documents, since I can easily convert them to PDF) into LaTeX format so that I can handle my work in LaTeX from now on?

    Hi, We're migrating an existing IIS website + MS SQL 2005 database (on the same server) to a new test set-up. The existing set-up is too slow. I want one ISS server and 2 X MS SQL server 2005. One live DB server for the website queries (inserts, updates) and another for backups, reports or stored procedures. So the live DB should be more aimed at performance. The other doesn't even need to be synced instantly. What is the best way in SQL server 2005 to set this up. Can somebody point me in the right direction and give me some pointers. Thanks

  • Any way to speed up this hierarchical query?

    I've got a serious performance problem with a hierarchical query that I can't seem to fix. I am modeling several organization charts in my database, each representing a virtual organization within our company. For example, we have several temporary committees that are created from time to time and there may be a Committee Organizer role at the top of this virtual hierarchy, with several people assigned to the Committee Member role beneath the organizer. Some of our virtual organizations have many levels and several branches at each level. I have a single table in which I represent all the role assignments. i.e. a ROLE_ID column and a PARENT_ROLE_ID column which is a foreign key to the ROLE_ID column. For each assignment we also store as a column the location in the company where this person has the assignment. For example, the Committee Organizer would have a company-level/ CEO assignment, while the committee members would have department-level assignments such as ACCOUNTING, MARKETING, etc. So to model the organizer/member relationship for two individuals we would have: ROLE_ID = 4 PARENT_ROLE_ID = NULL EMPLOYEE_NUMBER = 213423 COMPANY_LOCATION = CEO ROLE_ID = 5 PARENT_ROLE_ID = 4 EMPLOYEE_NUMBER = 838221 COMPANY_LOCATION = ACCOUNTING Here's where things get tricky. I have an application that every person in the organization can log in to. When they log in they should be able to view all the virtual organizations in our company. e.g. the committee members should be able to see the committee organizer and vice-versa. However, only the committee organizer should be able to edit the committee members. The difficulty is in determining whether an individual (who can have multiple role assignments) has edit access for each other assignment. While this seems simple in the example, consider a virtual organization in which we have President at the top, 5 departments directly beneath him, 2 subdepartments below each department. We only want people in the Accounting department to be able to edit individuals in the subdepartments belonging to the Accounting department. They should not have edit access to anybody in the Marketing department or its subdepartments. To determine edit access when a user views a virtual organization in our company I run a query that executes two inline views: A) Hierarchically query for all assignments in this virtual organization and using SYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH to store the entire path to each user/role/company_location and B) Hierarchically retrieve all the assignments the individual logged in has and using the SYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH to store the entire path to each of these assignments. The result of the query is all the records from A) plus a boolean determined by joining with B) which flags whether the logged in user has edit access for each record. Indexes don't seem to be helping... it simply appears that there is too much processing going on to separate all the records and then determine edit access. One issue is that I can't store the SYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH and index it... determining whether an individual record has edit access consists of comparing if: test_record_sys_path LIKE individual_record_sys_path || '%' Is a materialized view the answer?

    Hi, I am trying to access a external ftp server through my company's FTP proxy from a bash prompt and I am getting the below issue after I enter the user name 421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection Login failed. No control connection for command: Permission denied The proxy works fine for all other sites but I am unable to access a site which has been recently setup using this proxy. Can it be an issue at the site's end like allowing our proxy ip address thru their firewall to access their server? Thanks

The playcap sample in the windows sdk directshow folder can show you a window streaming the webcam, but doesn't demonstrate access to the bytes. Someone mentioned that I could use a samplegrabber filter attached to a null rendered to gain access to the frame data. Unfortunately I haven't the first clue how to do this.   • accessing parsed JSON on the iPhone SDK

    Hello All! I've been following the great tutorial about (iPhone, json and Flickr API and I did manage to access the parsed json info just fine. Now I'm trying to do the same thing with the Twitter API, and I am able to get the json info and parse it, but I can't seem to access it like in Flickr. I noticed that the json info that is retrieved from Twitter is a little different from Flickr. The Flickr json info starts straight with a curly braces ({), while the Twitter json info starts with a square bracket and then a curly braces ([{). I understand that it means it's an array inside the json info, but I don't know how to access it. In the Flickr example, I access the objects like so (the second line takes the number of pages Flickr has reported): NSDictionary *results = [jsonString JSONValue]; pagesString = [[results objectForKey:@"photos"] objectForKey:@"pages"]; but I can't seem to access the Twitter response in the same way... Does anyone know of a solution? (here's an example of the Twitter JSON response: api.twitter.com/1/statuses/public_timeline.json ) Thanks a bunch!

    Last night I upgraded to Office 2010 RTM from MSDN. I'm now trying to uninstall the Office Live Add-in that I used with Office 2007 as this functionality is built in to Office 2010. When I run the uninstall from control panel I get the following message: Microsoft Office Live Add-in cannot be installed because you do not have the right version of Microsoft Office installed on your computer Google has pointed to 2 solutions, both of which are pretty useless: Use the MS Windows Installer Cleanup - this is not good because all it does is remove the Installer entry from the registry, leaving all the installed files behind Uninstall Office 2010, uninstall Add-in, reinstall Office 2010 - that is just ridiculous, but typical MS response So, can I get this off my system without resorting to option 2?

    Sorry for the question marks, but a simple (I think) question has an impossible solution. From file system, if I click on an image file "Properties | Details tab" I access to many metadata. I need to access from a WPF application to the Description properties (Title, Subject, Rating, Tag and Comment). In particular Tag. I have found a lot of articles, many are very old. A few in WPF and Imaging library. But no one access to that properties. So the question marks: are these properties on image? On file system?   • DVCS with a Windows central repository

    We are currently using VSS for version control. Quite few of our developers are interested in a distributed model (And want to get rid of VSS). Our network is full of Windows machines and while our IT department has experience maintaining Linux machines they would prefer not to. What DVCS systems can host their central repository on Windows while providing.. Push access to the repository. Basic authentication. Mostly just a way to allow or deny access to the whole repository. No need for fine grained access. Server process so users don't need write right to the repository reducing the risk of accidentally messing with it. On the client side a GUI such as Tortoise would be more or less a requirement (Sorry, Windows shell sucks. :|). Ease of installation would be a huge plus as our IT department is already quite low on resources. And using windows credentials for authentication would be an advantage but not a requirement as long as the client is able to store the credentials. I have had a (really) quick look at Git, Mercurial and Bazaar. Git seemed to use ssh or simple WebDAV for repository access, requiring write permission for the users. Mercurial had a built in http server, but this seemed to be only for pull purposes. Update: Mercurial supports push as well. Bazaar Seemed to use sftp for repository access, again requiring a write permission for the users. Are there windows server processes for any DVCS systems and has anyone managed to set one up in a Windows land? And apologies if this is a duplicate question. I couldn't find one.     I am new to ColdFusion and ColdBox (and programming). I tried to setup ColdBox but some of the links in the sample applications are broken. My configuration is a GlassFish v3 installation with the current Railo OSS. I access my site through Apache 2.2.14. So instead of http://127.0.0.1:8080/railo/ I access my environment trough http://railo/. In Railo I have a webroot mapping / to C:/webapps/myproject/. I have copied the current ColdBox 3M4 to C:/webapps/myproject/coldbox. I can access the dashboard through http://railo/coldbox/dashboard/index.cfm and have access to all options. My problems start the moment I try to open the sample gallery: HTTP Status 500 - type Exception report message description The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request. exception java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\webapps\viss-dev\coldbox\samples (Zugriff verweigert) note The full stack traces of the exception and its root causes are available in the GlassFish v3 logs. GlassFish v3 OK, no problem, just enter the link directly: http://railo/coldbox/samples/index.cfm. The site looks plain, who cares - BUT all local links look like this: http://127.0.0.1:8080/coldbox/samples/applications/helloworld/index.cfm (railo is replaced with 127.0.0.1:8080). Looks like trouble. To make my confusion perfect: when I try to access the login app: http://railo/coldbox/samples/applications/sampleloginapp/index.cfm and hit the submit button, I am redirected to this address: http://railo/railo/coldbox/samples/applications/sampleloginapp/index.cfm. I believe that this is not really ColdBox-related, but it manifests itself when I try to use ColdBox, so here I am. P.S.: amazon.de takes too long to ship the ColdBox book :(

Why can't windows? Edit: Although the default number of FATS is 2 I tried adding -f 2 [number-of-FATs] since this is actually being done by busybox on an embedded platform but this didn't help. I understand the Linux MS-DOS file system does not support more than 2 FATs but there are only 2 on this target (the boot is also FAT which is visible), along with and EXT3 (on p2) for the root file system.

  • Why ping another innet machine from MacBook get netgate's ip address?

    I have three machine in my home network connected by a wireless router. One is server installed linux at 192.168.1.1, another is Thinkpad with MS Windows XP at 192.168.1.2, last one is MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.3 at 192.168.1.3. When I ping the Linux Server from Thinkpad (MS Windows XP) I can get the correct ip address, but when I ping it from Mac I get the global address of my router, like 61.135.181.175. Could you tell me why this happen? And how do I get same ping result on Mac and Windows. Thanks

    Hello, I would like to create a document generator with templating. The workflow should be as following: The user input data to a static form (simple text input). The user chooses a graphically designed template. A document with the chosen template containing the user data is generated. The initial templates repository is prepared in advance, but it should be easy to add new templates to the process. I have the full MS Office suite and the preferred file format is an MS .doc. The sessions db table remains empty. The log message from the _close callback is always present. Here's how I connect to the database: $db = new PDO('mysql:host=' . DBHOST . ';dbname=' . DBNAME, DBUSER, DBPASS); $db->setAttribute(PDO::ATTR_ERRMODE, PDO::ERRMODE_EXCEPTION); I have PHP 5.2.10. I tried to simply run $GLOBALS['db']->exec($sql) with a "manually prepared" $sql content, but it still failed silently. The query itself is all right I was able to execute it via the db console.

    Environment: Windows 7, MS Office 2007, OpenOffice In the Control Panel-Fonts section, there are a number of fonts available, sometimes as families. For example, the Arial family (double click on it) shows both Arial and Arial Narrow. The Arial one has a few different versions, like "Arial Bold" and "Arial Bold Italic" and "Arial Italic". The Cambria font is the similar. When, if at all, are these Bold, Italic, etc. versions of these fonts ever used? In MS Office and OpenOffice they they are not available to choose from. Any insights on if I even need to keep them on my system at all?

  • How are java.lang.Object's protected methods protected from subclasses?

    The keyword protected grants access to classes in the same package and subclasses (http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/javaOO/accesscontrol.html). Now, every class has java.lang.Object as superclass (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/lang/Object.html). Hence I conclude that every class may access java.lang.Object's methods even if they are protected. Take a look at the following example: public class Testclass { public Object getOne() throws CloneNotSupportedException { return this.clone(); } public Object getTwo() throws CloneNotSupportedException { return ((Object) this).clone(); } } While getOne() compiles fine, getTwo() gives Testclass.java:6: clone() has protected access in java.lang.Object return ((Object) this).clone(); I neither understand why getTwo() doesn't compile nor what's the difference (regarding the access of java.lang.Objects members) with getOne().
