• Google Translate API in a .NET Windows Application

  Hi , I have a .NET windows application which uses the Google Translate API. When trying to translate strings today i got a "Terms of Abuse" exception. To use a google API effectively, it is recommended that you register for a key which should resolve this problem. My translate API does not use a key. However to use a key,the site states that we would need to enter a valid URL of ours - e.g. http://localhost etc. However this one is a windows application. How do i get a valid key?

  Recently a guy from our 3rd line team thought it would be funny to delete my account from AD. This has now been re-added. Everything is back to normal apart from my Access to Sharepoint sites. I am getting "The file exists. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070050)" Error on all sites. After some googleing I came across a guy with the same issue and it was an issue with the SID being different from my old account. Since this I deleted my account from Site Administrators and re-added. This would refresh the SID with the new one. I also check on the Content database that the site ID matched using the following transactions and the SIDs match. select s.Id, w.FullUrl from Sites s inner join Webs w on s.RootWebId = w.Id select * from UserInfo where tp_Login='domain\username' and tp_SiteID='' I am now a bit clueless.

  assume this class: public class Logger { static TextWriter fs = null; public Logger(string path) { fs = File.CreateText(path); } public static void Log(Exception ex) { ///do logging } public static void Log(string text) { ///do logging } } and I have to use this like: Logger log = new Logger(path); and then use Logger.Log() to log what I want. the question is: is this a good design? to instantiate a class and then always call it's static method? any suggestion yield in better design is appreciated.

• Is there a Silverlight week picker control?

  We have a report that compares data between weeks, and it seems like this is the exception and not the rule in the reporting world. I'm looking for an elegant way of selecting "a week" in a Silverlight control. I'd prefer not to spend the time building it ourselves, so it would be nice if I could buy a well polished control that does this. Sure, I could use a drop down list, but I would like a way to easily navigate through potentially years worth of weeks. Any existing controls out there? Any clever ways of using basic controls to achieve our goal? Thank you!

• Timespan not accepting day in MVC3

  I have a MVC3 application in which i want to set a timespan to for example 2 days and 5 hours. when i enter 02:05:00:00 it gives me the following exception: System.OverflowException: SqlDbType.Time overflow. Value '2.05:00:00' is out of range. Must be between 00:00:00.0000000 and 23:59:59.9999999. When i enter 05:00:00 it correctly saves 5 hours into the database. according to MSDN timespan has a property for days. How do i correctly set the days? Model: public class ProductionTimeVM { [Required] public TimeSpan DefaultTime { get; set; } } In my view i just use: @Html.TextBoxFor(x => x.DefaultTime) For my controller: public ActionResult SaveProductionTime(ProductionTimeVM vm) { ProductionTime productionTime = new ProductionTime(); productionTime.Default = vm.DefaultTime; //some more code } Any idea's?

  I set up various global parameters in Global.asax, as such: Application["PagePolicies"] = "~/Lab/Policies.aspx"; Application["PageShare"] = "/Share.aspx"; Application["FileSearchQueries"] = Server.MapPath("~/Resources/SearchQueries.xml"); ... I have no problem accessing these variables form .ascx.cs or .aspx.cs file -- ie. files that are part of the Web content. However, I can't seem to access 'Application' from basic class objects (ie. standalone .cs files).   Hi I have a view that is not strongly typed. However I have in this view a partial view that is strongly typed. How do I do I pass the model to this strongly typed view? So I am not sure how to pass it on. Of course I don't want to make the test view strongly typed if possible as what happens if I had like 10 strongly typed partial views in that view I would need like some sort of wrapper.

I tried to copy only the new records from the remote_table by this query: SELECT * FROM [remote_DB].[LudanProjectManager].[dbo].Remote_table EXCEPT SELECT * FROM My_table It works OK but I get a duplicate primary key exception when changes have been made on the remote_table on the hours column. Can anyone think of a way to copy only the new records from remote_table and if changes has been made on old records, to identify them and update the my_table to correspond?

  I'm doing some experiments locally that require some data from a production MySQL DB that I only have read access to. The schemas are nearly identical with the exception of the omission of one column. My goal is to write a script that I can run everyday that extracts the previous day's data and imports it into my local table. The part that I'm most confused about is how to download the data. I've seen names like mysqldump be tossed around but that seems a way to replicate the entire database. I would love to avoid using php seeing as I have no experience with it. I've been creating CSVs but I'm worried about having the data integrity (what if there is a comma in a field or a \n) as well as the size of the CSV (there are several hundred thousand rows per day).

  It it possible to enable validation in an ASP.NET GridView purely declaratively? What I've tried: A GridView bound to an ObjectDataSource with SelectMethod and UpdateMethod defined The GridView contains some ReadOnly BoundField columns and a TemplateField whose EditTemplate contains a TextBox and a RegularExpressionValidator that only allows numeric input in the TextBox. The GridView also contains a CommandField with ShowEditButton=true and CausesValidation=true. If I click on Edit, enter an invalid value, then click on Save, there is a PostBack, and an exception is thrown in the server (Input string was not in a correct format). • Appengine backreferences - need composite index?

  I have a query that is very recently starting to throw: "The built-in indices are not efficient enough for this query and your data. Please add a composite index for this query." I checked the line on which this exception is being thrown, and the problem query is this one: count = self.vote_set.filter("direction =", 1).count() This is literally a one-filter operation using appengine's built-in backreferences. I have no idea how to optimize this query...anyone have any suggestions? I tried to add this index: - kind: Vote properties: - name: direction direction: desc - kind: Vote properties: - name: direction And I got a message (obviously) saying this was an unnecessary index. When I perform the following steps Let the login cookie expire Click on a link that requires a logged in user The user is redirected to the login page Click the browser back button The user is redirected to the login page again Log in using a valid username/password I get this exception Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster. This case appears only in safari (windows and mac). The fundamental difference between safari and other browsers is that when we click the back button in step 4, safari shows the login page again, while the other browsers show the previous page the user was working on. Please help in this regard

• Facebook RunWithFriend redirects to homepage

  I'm following the Canvas app Example of Facebook, but it seems that I'm unable to login succesfully, thus I'm unable to use the example app because I'm always redirected to the main page. I think I set all the parameters correctly, except for the OAuth Migration that should be enabled. There is no such option in Facebook developer panel. This is a screen of the main page as it appears to me after the login: I have the same problem explained here: Canvas demo (runwithfriends) always redirects to main page under my own GAE with the exception that even the application on facebook GAE redirects me to the main page even if I successfully log in. Did anyone experienced a similar problem?
