• Upgrading ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 Websites to .NET 4.5

  I have an existing website in ASP.Net 2.0 that uses ASP.Net Ajax 1.0. This is developed using Visual Studio 2005. Now, we are planning to upgrade this to .Net 4.5 and VS2013. When I made a search, I could see that there are blogs about upgrading projects with Ajax 1.0 to .Net 3.5 version. However I could not find useful links for upgrading to .Net 4.5. Do we have any useful links for that? Or is it an unworkable approach? Note: As of now we have not purchased VS2013 and servers for this. Purchase depends on the feasibility study. • WCF Error when using “Match Data” function in MDS Excel AddIn

  If you’re using MDS and DQS with the Excel Integration you may get an error when trying to use the “Match Data” feature that uses DQS in order to help to identify duplicate data in your data set. The error is quite obscure and you have to enable WCF error reporting in order to have the error details and you’ll discover that they are related to some missing permission in MDS and DQS_STAGING_DATA database. • How do I turn 'off' a (hosted) domain's web server while leaving email intact?

  I have a web hosting account at HostGator (for a domain registered with GoDaddy), where I would like to only use email, and completely turn off the website/webserver (for that domain), such that it actually gives the following error like any other domain which isn't pointing to anything, so in Firefox it would be: Or in Chrome it would be: So I am not looking for just a blank page or server 403 error, but literally for it to act like it doesn't exist and the only way someone would know that the domain is in use, is if they WHOIS search it or know any of the email addresses on the main server. N.B. the domain is the parent domain in the HostGator account and other websites (which need to still be operational) are under it, but I'm thinking with DNS settings it can still be configured while keeping the one hosting account. How would I configure this?

• Could Ajax + Caching be seen as cloaking?

  I have a website where we use a technique to speed up loading times based in a combination of AJAX + caching. Basically, when we have a section in a page with content which is slow to retrieve, we first look if it's cached. If it is, then we serve the content, if it's not, we serve a placeholder and then make an AJAX call in the client to retrieve the content, wich is now cached for subsequent requests. As a consecuence, sometimes you get the entire page content in the first request, and sometimes you get those placeholders, wich get filled inmediatly with the responses of the AJAX request. • How do I install an equalizer in Rhythmbox?

  Previous I have never used rhythmbox by default because it seemed to be lacking in features to me. Just my personal opinion. With rhythmbox back in 12.04 will ubuntu give it some attention to give it some usability one thing that was majorly missing on my last use of rhythmbox was an equalizer which is the most basic of requirements for an audio player let alone a preamp. I have searched and found that on the rhythmbox website the plugin is available but in the plugins menu of rhythmbox it is not there. I searched google and there are many guides from 2009 trying to install the equalizer. there is nothing recent and one would assume this would be a default plugin, there is no point after all searching for cover art if your music doesn't sound right. How can I easily install the equalizer in 12.04?

  I have a number of pages on my website that only administrators can access and access to these pages is given if a querystring value if found and correctly set. For example: http://www.mydomain.com/show-daily-statistics?key=abc The above link will show the content of the page but anything else such as the below will not: http://www.mydomain.com/show-daily-statistics Now I was thinking about what to do if search engines and/or non-admin users somehow land on these hidden pages. I can of course either change the status code of the page to 404 or else 301 redirect to: http://www.mydomain.com/404-error What's the best solution in respect to Google and SEO?

• Blogging platform for shared hosting?

  First of all, this is not for flame wars. So, please do not bash some blogging platform :P I have a shared hosting account. I want to setup a blog on it. Now, the thing is that as it is shared hosting, I do not have as much bandwidth as some expensive hosting. I have tried using Wordpress with the caching plugins configured. It still does not seem to speed it much. Also if I create a simple PHP website, the speed is fine. Can someone suggest me some lightweight platform?

  So, am not going to tech-ed this year.I didn't get much benefit from going last year, but I did meet a lot of nice folks.I am working on my first official Silverlight project, and it's going ok.I having a few issues which I may resolve with WCF services.I am still green around the edges with this technology, but I am getting the hang of it slowly.Learning a lot about IQueryable and how to handle databases.Depending on what I am looking todo, I may use some messaging services within the app.It has been a hard study the last month. Learning SL, JQuery, More CSS and website work, code-first.Node.js, SingalRThere seems to be a lot to do to keep up with the technology.Hope to post more often, but am hammering on something new, most of the time.

• 301 redirect bulk aspx URLs on IIS

  We recently relaunched an old ASPX site as a new Drupal site on the same domain. No 301 redirect was implemented. I have outputted a list of 1000 URLs that need to be 301 redirected. Most of the URLs are the results of search queries that were committed on the website. I.E.: http://www.mysite.com/electronics/CommunityDetails.aspx?FirstLetter=%&ID=444 We are running a Drupal site on IIS using a PHP plugin. Is there a way I can wild card a redirect of all ASPX pages? I know I can do it with .htaccess but that doesn't apply here. Any suggestions appreciated.

I don't object to the "silly boys" sticker because, in my humble opinion, girls look much cuter in Jeeps than guys do. The solution to a system with different interfaces(or clients i should say) is to go with developing a Web service and have other systems interact with it. I never had the requirement for developing a Web service so i am bit short on it. All i understand is that A web service is a system or application that performs some operations which may include modifying, sending or receiving data over a network using HTTP protocol. (Let me know if the understanding is wrong) Now, from the other question it's clearly understood that i need to develop a web service but i have no idea as to how should i go about it. My language of choice is C# and .NET Framework. Question:: How do we develop a webservice and which tools,technology and framework should i use for the same using C# language?? • PHP Development Environment (Host: Windows 7, Guest: Ubuntu)

  Since editing files live from a remote server slows down development. I use XAMPP on windows to develop then run the web app's on a Linux server. However to avoid environment dependencies I'd like to mirror the live environment and the development environments. What I'm asking is running development server on Ubuntu inside VirtualBox whilst editing the source files via ftp/Dreamweaver is a good idea? If so, and I wanted to view the local website on the host OS (windows) how would I do this? does the guest OS have a LAN/Local IP address? I notice on windows "ipconfig /all" there are "tunneling" adapters which I assume is for VirtualBox, so I guess the guest OS has the same LAN/Local IP address? if so how would I view the websites hosted on the guest OS on the host OS? I'd also need to host FTP server on guest OS. Note: I need windows! I would love to use Linux all the way -.-
