• Lot's of errors by insserv on apt-get operations after trying to install tomcat

  I wanted to install tomcat on my Debian 6.0.4 machine. I tried apt-get install tomcat6-user which worked fine. But then I changed my mind about the user installation and wanted to install the package tomcat6. This resulted in a bunch of errors (see below). Now whatever I try to do with apt-get or with aptitude (trying to remove tomcat6-user, trying to remove tomcat6, trying to perform an apt-get upgrade,...) just results in the same list of errors.   I got this error while installing the android application (Parse Error : There is a problem parsing the package.). I did the following steps. First time I installed the application and it works fine. I made changes to the existing application and change the version no in Manifest file. <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="org.openintents.samples.BasicOpenARDemo" android:versionCode="2" android:versionName="1.0.1"> Then I export the application and finish the code signing process. For this, Right Click your Project node select Export. There you will see a wizard. Follow the steps and finish the code signing also. I got the ARDemo.apk file, Then I changed it’s name to ARDemo1.apk Then I shipped this apk file to mobiles SD Card and started the installation I got the above error. I googled, they say that problem with unpacking manifest file. Can anyone tell me what could be wrong with me?

• Spring boot JAR as windows service

  I am trying to wrap a spring boot "uber JAR" with procrun. Running the following works as expected: java -jar my.jar I need my spring boot jar to automatically start on windows boot. The nicest solution for this would be to run the jar as a service (same as a standalone tomcat). When I try to run this I am getting "Commons Daemon procrun failed with exit value: 3" Looking at the spring-boot source it looks as if it uses a custom classloader: https://github.com/spring-projects/spring-boot/blob/master/spring-boot-tools/spring-boot-loader/src/main/java/org/springframework/boot/loader/JarLauncher.java I also get a "ClassNotFoundException" when trying to run my main method directly. java -cp my.jar my.MainClass Is there a method I can use to run my main method in a spring boot jar (not via JarLauncher)? Has anyone successfully integrated spring-boot with procrun? I am aware of http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.com/. However due to their licence I can't use it. • c# WinForms ReportViewer Performance issue using RefreshReport() and ServerReport.SetParameters()

  Hi All, Currently I am writing a c# client application that uses the WinForms ReportViewer Control to display reports from a remote server. I am having performance troubles with the ReportViewer Control, to be specific with the 2 methods reportViewer.ServerReport.SetParameters() and reportViewer.RefreshReport() – they both take a really long time to complete and not just on the very first call, but on each subsequent call as well. SetParameters() takes 20 to 40 seconds (they vary greatly in time, some execute event okay fast) and RefreshReport() is a bit faster but still takes ages. I don’t think the server is the culprit, as the same report viewed using the browser renders pretty fast, about a second tops. The report in question doesn't matter as well. When I break into the process and take a look at the call stack, I see a call to Socket.DoConnect. So I thought that’s a good reason to start using fiddler and I installed it, disabled caching and fired up the app again to see which call takes that long to connect, but the performance issue was gone. By using a proxy I am having the same performance as the webbrowser. FYI: I am using NTLM authentication in the following way: reportViewer.ServerReport.ReportServerCredentials.NetworkCredentials = new NetworkCredentials() { Username = ... } I don’t have a strong webbackground, so I guess my question is: What should this tell me / What should I be looking into? (Btw: Adding fiddler to my installation package is not the solution I am looking for :)) I am grateful for any pointers. Take care, -Martin

• Visual Studio 2010 is asking to convert RDLC created on VS2008 to RDLC 2008 format?

  I've created my project on Visual Studio 2008, as well RDLC files on it. But now, when I open the solution on Visual Studio 2010 and want to open RDLC file, it's showing me a warning. That's a little funny. The report was created on VS2008 and VS2010 is asking to convert to 2008 format. Perhaps there was a problem on my VS2008 installation that created RDLC files using some ancient format (2005??!) • Nginx as a proxy to Tomcat

  Pardon me, this is my first attempt at Nginx-Jetty instead of Apache-JK-Tomcat. I deployed myapp.war file to $JETTY_HOME/webapps/, and the app is accessible at the url: http://myIP:8080/myapp I did a default installation of Nginx, and the default Nginx page is accessible at http://myIP Then, I modified the default domain under /etc/nginx/sites-enabled to the following: server { listen 80; server_name mydomain.com; access_log /var/log/nginx/localhost.access.log; location / { #root /var/www/nginx-default; #index index.html index.htm; proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080/myapp/; } error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html; location = /50x.html { root /var/www/nginx-default; } } Now I get the index page of mypp (running in jetty) when I hit myIP, which is good. But all the links are malformed. eg. The link to css is mydomain.com/myapp/css/style.css while what it should have been is mydomain.com/css/style.css. It seems to be mapping http://mydomain.com to http://127.0.0.1:8080 instead of http://127.0.0.1:8080/myapp/ Any idea what am missing? Do I need to change anything on the Jetty side too?

• Greasemonkey @require jQuery not working "Component not available"

  I've seen the other question on here about loading jQuery in a Greasemonkey. Having tried that method, with this require statement inside my ==UserScript== tags: // @require http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js I still get the following error message in Firefox's error console: Error: Component is not available Source File: file:///Users/greg/Library/Application%20Support/ Firefox/Profiles/xo9xhovo.default/gm_scripts/myscript/jquerymin.js Line: 36 This stops my greasemonkey code from running. I've made sure I included the @require for jQuery and saved my js file before installing it, as required files are only loaded on installation. • Windows server 2003 default administrator password

  Sorry if this is an overly simplistic question, but I'm a bit stuck here. :) I need a windows machine for me to do some programming for class. Since I have my Macbook with me everywhere I go, I figured that it would be easiest to install a vm. And since I can get a copy of Windows server 2k3 for free via dreamspark, I thought I'd try to do that. Here's what happened though: I installed windows server (disk one). When the system booted up, vmware automatically installed VMWare tools and prompted me to restart. There was also a prompt to start the installation of disc 2, but I figured it would be better to restart before doing that. When the machine came back up, I was prompted to log in as the administrator. The problem is that I wasn't prompted to make an administrator account or password. Is there a default password I can use? I've tried all the obvious ones (blank, password, etc) and googling, but I didn't come up with anything.

• MSBuild on TeamCity Server can't find AL.exe

  I'm having a problem on my TeamCity CI build server where during compilation I get the following error: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets(2342, 9): error MSB3086: Task could not find "AL.exe" using the SdkToolsPath "" or the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A". Make sure the SdkToolsPath is set and the tool exists in the correct processor specific location under the SdkToolsPath and that the Microsoft Windows SDK is installed I've found similar reports from a year ago when people were upgrading to .NET 3.5, for example this one. In that case, installing the latest SDK solved the issue, however I have already installed the latest SDK (Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 4) on my build server. The MSBuild tools are all there on the server, in a folder called C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 and AL.exe exists in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1\Bin\NETFX 4.0 Tools However the registry key mentioned in the error message does not exist. So, it seems like there is something wrong with the installation/configuration of MSBuild. This error only happens for projects that have embedded resources, which require AL.exe. It's our application, but we're trying to specifically replicate a customer's installation so the app folder has been copied entirely from their production server onto our test machine, and then we've created the Virtual Directory and Web Application for IIS manually.   I have a very strange problem with PHP 5.3.2 running on IIS 7 on a fresh Windows 7 installation. Changing the error_log configuration options in the php.ini does not seem to have any effect. I cannot change the option to point to anything other than the default location. Here is a portion of my php.ini file and the output from phpinfo() before and after changing some configuration options. Everything else seems to have taken effect except the error_log option. I have noticed that the fastcgi.logging option also appears to be stuck. A previous setup with PHP 5.3.2 on Win XP and IIS 5.5 exhibited no problems. I'm attempting to covert a project with 407 files to a WiX3 installation package. • Creating a Sharepoint Development Environment from an Existing Production Environment

  I have very little experience using Sharepoint but a good amount using Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2005, Windows Server 2003 and IIS6. I need to create a development environment for a SharePoint 2007 system that will be used internally. The system is already deployed over two servers - one of the servers simply holds the database and everything else is on the other server. We are also using WSS 3.0. I have created a Virtual Machine with all the required software including a clean installation of SharePoint Server 2007 and I wish to use this single Virtual Machine as the development environment. Right now there are no custom assemblies being used on the production server as far as I am aware. There are 3 websites, one over port 80 for user accesss, one over a custom port for central administration, and one over another custom port. Not sure what the last one is for but my blank instance of Sharepoint on my Virtual Machine also has something similar. I attempted to use the STSADM tool to backup and restore these 3 sites from my production environment to my development environment and while the operations completed succesfully, the central administration site in my development environment acted strangely and I could not access port 80 - I did not seem to have correct credentials for it. I suspected that it would not have been so simple so could I please have advice on how to create my development environment so that I can use it to deploy updates to the production one.

• Sharepoint/WSS Reporting Services Integration woes

  after a number of failed attempts i seem to have successfully installed the Reporting services add-in to my WSS farm. However, I seem to be missing most of the enhanced functionality eg no report library template, no report center site template. the only additional functionality available is the report viewer web part. background: 2 server WSS 3.0 farm with CA (Central admin) WFE (web front end) and reporting services addin installed on 1, and SQL05 SP2 with Reporting services (RS) and all databases installed on other. I have a VM environment set up and have rolled this back and repeated a number of times. I have configured RS within CA and activated 'Report Server INtegration Feature'. Within the 'site settings' I have a 'Reporting Services' heading with a 'manage shared schedules' item/link, not sure if there should be other options? I was of the understanding that to view reports within sharepoint i could either create a new site using the 'report center' template or add a report library to an existing site, neither of which seems available I am at a loss as to what to do, as all online information seems to do with dealing with installation issues/errors, which i seem to have eventually got past

• IE8 CSS selector selects, but does not apply the style.

  This is making me want to kill myself. I have some really simple CSS to style my input objects: input, button { border: 1px solid #c66600; background-color: white; color: #7d212f; font-family: "Eras Light ITC", Tahoma, sans; } But I don't like the ugly border it puts around radio buttons, so I use a selector to kill the border: input[type=radio] { border: none; } You can probably guess what browsers this works in and which ONE it does not work in. What's funny is when I press F12 to launch the excellent developer tools in IE8 it actually tells me that the style of the radio buttons has been overridden to 'none' just like I asked it to do, but the border remains on the radio button objects. I have tried a variety of semantic things, like setting the border width to 0px or the color to something insane like lime green, but it remains the originally assigned color that it got from the first style. And finally, I have tried only styling 'text' objects, in which case no style is applied to anything. Again, the browser claims to fulfill the CSS selection, but it visually does not happen. Thoughts? By the way, this is a DotNetNuke installation with generated code where I can't explicitly set the style of the radio buttons. Thanks, Dan

• Errors with shotgun gem and msvcrt-ruby18.dll when running my Sinatra app

  Greetings, Every time I make a change to a Sinatra app I'm working on and try to refresh the browser (located at http://localhost:4567/) the browser will refresh and, the console window seems to restart the WEB brick server. The problem is that the content in the browser window does not change. A friend of mine told me it was a shotgun issue and referred me to rtomayko's shotgun gem: http://github.com/rtomayko/shotgun On this page I read that the shotgun gem would basically solve my problem, allowing the changes made to my app to show up in the browser window after I refresh it. So I installed the shotgun gem. The installation was successful. To activate the shotgun function you have to type shotgun before the file name. So on top of getting the error message above I also get a pop up window from Ruby.exe saying: Ruby.exe - Unable to load component This application has failed to start because msvcrt-ruby18.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. I have no idea what msvcrt-ruby18.dll is but I know that installing either shotgun and/or mongrel created this problem. Where to go from here?   Hi All, I have got this error when using Enterprise Library 3.1 May 2007 version. We are developing a product and have a common lib directory beneath the Subversion Trunk directory <\Trunk\Lib\ into which we put all the third party DLLs. Inside this we have Microsoft\EnterpriseLibrary\v3.1 in which we have copied all the dlls from \Program Files\Microsoft Enterprise Library May2007\bin. Everything was working properly until one of the developers installed the source code on this machine. There were some dlls copied at the end of the source code installation and once that was done, he is not able to run the project anymore. He always gets this error 'Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data, Version=3.1.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)' What is the problem here? I thought that when the source code was installed it was just supposed to build everything and copy in the bin directory within the source code parent directory. Also we have copied the Dlls from Microsoft Enterprise Library May 2007\bin directory into our product development directory and references into our project with a copylocal flag set to true. Can anyone help me out here RK

• Windows services with windows forms in the same process

  Hello, I have a c# application that runs as a windows service controlling socket connections and other things. Also, there is another windows forms application to control and configure this service (systray with start, stop, show form with configuration parameters). I'm using .net remoting to do the IPC and that was fine, but now I want to show some real traffic and other reports and remoting will not meet my performance requirements. So I want to combine both applications in one. Here is the problem: When I started the form from the windows service, nothing happened. Googling around I've found that I have to right click the service, go to Log on and check the "Allow service to interact with desktop" option. Since I don't want to ask my users to do that, I got some code googling again to set this option in the user's regedit during installation time. The problem is that even setting this option, it doesn't work. I have to open the Log On options of the service (it is checked), uncheck and check again. So, how to solve that? How is the best way to have a windows service with a systray control in the same process, available to any user logging in? UPDATE: Thanks for the comments so far, guys. I agree it is better to use IPC and I know that it is bad to mix windows services and user interfaces. Even though, I want to know how to do that.

• Ruby Gems Not Installing, Hangs While Getting Gems

  I recently cleared out all of my ruby install and installed form sources using the instructions at hivelogic I have have been able to install a few gems, but most of the time, "sudo gem install rails" hangs. I've added the -V flag, and it just seems to hang, I don't get any error. And the process can not be killed. I can only reboot to kill the process. Some things work, like NUM2LONG. Here are some things I have tried: In http://github.com/ruby/ruby/blob/ruby_1_8_7/ruby.h, RBIGNUM_SIGN is defined. But in all versions of ruby I have tried, it is not there. I guessed that maybe it was defined in a different .h file. Knowing that Hpricot works with 1.8, I looked at http://github.com/hpricot/hpricot/blob/master/ext/hpricot_scan/hpricot_scan.h. It doesn't include any other files that #define it. Putting things like extern VALUE rb_big_modulo(VALUE x); at the beginning of my extension don't help. Using a brand new Ubuntu installation, I apt-getted ruby, tried to install the gem, and it didn't work either. Putting have_library 'ruby', 'rb_big_modulo' in my extconf.rb didn't work. As you can probably see, I am getting desperate (after weeks of trying things!). So, how can I get this to work?
