• How can I clone a .NET solution?

  Starting new .NET projects always involves a bit of work. You have to create the solution, add projects for different tiers (Domain, DAL, Web, Test), set up references, solution structure, copy javascript files, css templates and master pages etc etc. What I'd like is an easy way of cloning any given solution. If you use copy/paste, the problem is that you need to then go through renaming namespaces, assembly names, solution names, GUIDs etc. Is there a way of automating this? Something like this would be great: solutionclone.exe --solution=c:\code\abc\template.sln --to=c:\code\xyz --newname=MySolution I'm aware that Visual Studio has project templates, but I've not seen solution templates. Ideas welcome, thanks in advance folks!

• Get ffmpeg information in friendly way

  Every time I try to get some information about my video files with ffmpeg, it pukes a lot of useless information mixed with good things. I'm using ffmpeg -i name_of_the_video.mpg. There are any possibilities to get that in a friendly way? I mean JSON would be great (and even ugly XML is fine). By now, I made my application parse the data with regex but there are lots of nasty corners that appear on some specific video files. I fixed all that I encountered, but there may be more.   Hi, Which of these two forms of Array Initialization is better in Ruby?   I have an assignment where I have to create a deque, however I am not allowed to use any built-in classes or interfaces. I am implementing my deque using an array list. My problem is that when I have to, for instance, add to the beginning of the array list (beginning of the queue), i am not allowed to do this: public void addFirst(ArrayList<Integer> array) { array.add(0, int); } Is there a way to do this without using the add() function? Such as manually adding to the front and shifting the rest of the array to the right? Or maybe creating a new array list and copying...I'm not sure. Any help would be great; I have a bunch of functions to write, and getting the first one done will definitely put me in the right direction. Thanks

• Interpreted vs. Compiled Languages for Web Sites (PHP, ASP, Perl, Python, etc.)

  I build database-driven web sites. Previously I have used Perl or PHP with MySQL. Now I am starting a big new project, and I want to do it in the way that will result in the most responsive possible site. I have seen several pages here where questions about how to optimize PHP are criticized with various versions of "it's not worth going to great lengths to optimize PHP since it's an interpreted language and it won't make that much difference". I have also heard various discussions (especiallon on the SO podcast) about the benefits of compiled vs. interpreted languages, and it seems as though it would be in my interests to use a compiled language to serve up the site instead of an interpreted language. Is this even possible in a web context? If so, what would be a reasonable language choice? In addition to speed one benefit I forsee is the possiblity of finding bugs at compile time instead of having to debug the web site. Is this reasonable to expect?

  Hey all, I've been trying to throw together a generic function that retrieves the absolute URL of an executing JavaScript file on a web page: http://gist.github.com/433486 It works great in almost all the browsers I've tested (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera v10 at least, and IE 8). It seems to fail, however, in IE 6 and 7. The callback function gets executed, but the retrieved name is simple the URL to the main HTML page, not the JavaScript file. So all I'm really asking is if there's some other way of getting the URL of the current JavaScript file (which could be IE 6 and 7 specific)? Thanks in advance!

• How do I go about getting the Ajax Queue plugin working in jQuery 1.3?

  I have an app that sends multiple Ajax requests simultaneously. I was originally running into race conditions until I discovered the jQuery Ajax Queue plugin, which works great with jQuery 1.2, but fails with jQuery 1.3. There are actually two different versions of the plugin; I am currently using this one which is the same as the first but just adds a bit more functionality. Anyway, I am using Firebug on Firefox 3.0.10 and when I run my code I don't receive any explicit errors, the call is just never returned. I could obviously continue using v1.2 but would really like to learn why this plugin fails with the latest release and what I can do to get it working. Thanks in advance.

• JQUERY AJAX works on linux, but not on windows box

  I have a strange issue where the code works fine locally and on a linux server but not on a windows server... Works fine on: bijoudancewear.co.uk/mapper/ Doesn't work on: faringdongolfcourse.co.uk/mapper/ After clicking on map... If you click on 'Department Stores, fashion & Accessories' (2nd from bottom) it loads the appropriate data on the linux box but not on Windows. Also works fine locally on my mac, there is no ASP or PHP, this is good old fashioned html and jquery. Any pointers would be great.

• .Htaccess & Wildcard Subdomains — Can't get other variables to work!

  It would be absolutely awesome if someone could help me out here. I have a domain, let's call it "example.com". I have wildcard subdomains setup and working great. The only problem is I can't get htaccess to see anything else like subdomain.example.com/profile/some_name/some_id_number/. In fact, I can type any garbage after the domain and it will still just show me the home screen. Here's what's in my htaccess file now: Options +FollowSymLinks Options +Indexes Options -Multiviews RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/app/index.php RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example\.com RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^.]+)\.example\.com RewriteRule (.*) /app/index.php?user%1 [L] I can see why that wouldn't work yet, but I wanted to add something similar to the following: RewriteRule ^profile/([^/]+)/([^/]+) /app/index.php?page=profile&username=$1&user_id=$2 [nc] But it's not working at all. The server doesn't even really show signs that it's even seeing it there. Any ideas?

  Hi, I'm trying to get better at C++ (I know a little). I'm working on character arrays. I found an exercise where the objective is to reverse a character array (after I convert it from an integer). I'm getting the following error (using VS2005): Run-Time Check Failure #2 - Stack around the variable 'revBuffer' was corrupted. • Read external HTML page and then find data within

  I'm playing around with an idea, and I'm stuck at this one part. I want to read an external HTML page and then extract the data held within two <dd> tags. I've been using file_get_contents with good results, but I'm at a loss as to how to accomplish that last part. The two tags I want to extract the value from are always enclosed within a particular <div>, was wondering if that might help? In my mind it reads the entire html file into a string, then dumps all the data up until this one particular <div>, and dumps all the data after the closing </div>. Is that possible? I think this needs regex syntax which I've never used yet. So any tips, links, or examples would be great! I can provide more info as necessary.

• Quicktabs with AJAX Views

  I'm working in Drupal 7 with the quicktabs and views modules. I have a great looking tabbed set of tables filled with data. However, despite all the views having AJAX turned on, trying to do a column sort (or use the pager I imagine though currently there is not enough content to require one) causes the page to reload with a new URL instead of simply reloading the view in question. I found on Drupal some fixes for this problem but all seem to be in Drupal 6. Anyone have a patch for 7?

  My iPhone SDK and Objective-C learning is moving ahead quickly, thanks to several great books and online help (including this one). But I do have some basic questions due to what I already know that will be answered eventually, but I'd rather get a heads-up now if possible :) Are there equivalents for LayoutManagers in Cocoa Touch? Are they used, or is absolute positioning used instead? I have seen some of the layout stuff in IB, but I'm not sure what to look at in code. Aside from using the IB, are UIControls added directly to UIView instances using the addSubview (like add in Swing)? These are just two concrete questions that I've thought of just now, but I would love to see any translation of Swing concepts to Cocoa Touch.

  Hi All, I have a folder structure, as shown below: I need to create a bash script that does 4 things: It searches all the files in the generic directory and finds the string 'generic' and makes it into 'something' As above, but changes "GENERIC" to "SOMETHING" As above, but changes "Generic" to "Something" Renames any filename that has "generic" in it with "something" Right now I am doing this process manually by using the search and replace in net beans. I dont know much about bash scripting, but i'm sure this can be done. I'm thinking of something that I would run and it would take "Something" as the input. Where would I start? what functions should I use? overall guidance would be great. thanks. I am using Ubuntu 10.5 desktop edition.

  Good day! I have 2 Projects in my Eclipse. MainActivity1 and MainActivity2 are the names of the activities. The MainActivity2 is connected to the MainActivity1 via Project in the properties of the MainActivity1. So far, I can call the package of the MainActivity2 from the MainActivity1. Now, below are my problem: I have a button in MainActivity1. What I want to do is after I click on the button in the MainActivity1, it runs the MainActivity2 project and some variables will be passed on to the MainActivity2. I've been searching in google for a while now and I couldn't get the right keyword for it. I've checked some of the questions here in StackOverflow but I'm unable to locate the problem similar to mine with calling and running the MainActivity2 class from the MainActivity1.java I'm a noob in Android Java but have knowledge in other OOP.   This seems like a simple request, but google is not my friend because "partition" scores a bunch of hits in database and filesystem space. I need to enumerate all partitions of an array of N values (N is constant) into k sub-arrays. The sub-arrays are just that - a starting index and ending index. The overall order of the original array will be preserved. For example, with N=4 and k=2: [ | a b c d ] (0, 4) [ a | b c d ] (1, 3) [ a b | c d ] (2, 2) [ a b c | d ] (3, 1) [ a b c d | ] (4, 0) I'm pretty sure this isn't an original problem (and no, it's not homework), but I'd like to do it for every k <= N, and it'd be great if the later passes (as k grows) took advantage of earlier results. • Use Python to search one .txt file for a list of words or phrases (and show the context)

  Basically as the question states. I am fairly new to Python and like to learn by seeing and doing. I would like to create a script that searches through a text document (say the text copied and pasted from a news article for example) for certain words or phrases. Ideally, the list of words and phrases would be stored in a separate file. When getting the results, it would be great to get the context of the results. So maybe it could print out the 50 characters in the text file before and after each search term that has been found. It'd be cool if it also showed what line the search term was found on. Any pointers on how to code this, or even code examples would be much appreciated.

  I have a textbox in a asp.net update control. When I click a button on the webpage, the value of this textbox got modified. And I want to use javascript to get the modified value. The code I use was: var kmlString = document.getElementById('<%=TextBox1.ClientID%>').getAttribute("value"); It only got the original value of my textbox. I am wondering how can I get the latest value of the textbox through javascript. The browsers I intent to use is Firefox and Safari. So it would be great if the script can work for both browsers.
