• Query with UDF works in Access but gives Undefined function in expression (Err 3085) in Excel

  I have an Access table with a date/time field. I wanted to make a composite Key field out of the date/time field and 3 other text fields in the same format as the matching Key field in another database. So I concatenated the 3 text fields and wrote a User-Defined-Function in a Module to output the date field as a string in the format "YYYYMMDD". Public Function YYYYMMDD(dteDate As Date) As String YYYYMMDD = Format(dteDate, "YYYYMMDD") End Function I can then successfully run my queries in Access and it all works fine. But when I set up some DAO code in Excel and try to run the query that works fine within Access... db.Execute "qryMake_tblValsDailyAccount" ...Excel gives me the "Undefined function in expression. (Error 3085)" error. To me this is a bug in Excel and/or Access, because the (Excel) client shouldn't need to know anything about the internal calculations that normally take place perfectly in the (Access) server when in isolation. Excel should send the querydef (name with no parameters) to the server, let the server do its work then receive the answers. Why does it need to get involved with a function internal to the server? Does anyone know a way around this?

  Hi, I have about 200 tables which need to relate to another table in a many-to-many fashion. I have the tables (including the intersection table) ready IN SQL Server. How can I write code using the data relation object to make the relationship? The tables are: PartStatPartName PartsMaterialsIntersection << Materials The materials table needs to have a foreign key from the PartStatPartName table. I tried various approaches using the DataRelation class but the change did not sync to SQL Server, despite being connected and adding the relation, and then calling AcceptChanges() on the dataset. Any guidance much appreciated. I have seen some threads covering the same problem but need an example in code so I can follow the right method. Thanks

• Meaning of NEXT in Linked List creation in perl

  So I am trying to learn Linked Lists using Perl. I am reading "Mastering Algorithms with Perl" by Job Orwant. In the book he explains how to create a linked list I understand most of it, but I just simply fail to understand the command/index/key NEXT in the second last line of the code snippet. $list=undef; $tail=\$list; foreach (1..5){ my $node = [undef, $_ * $_]; $$tail = $node; $tail = \${$node->[NEXT]}; # The NEXT on this line? } What is he trying to do there? Isn $node a scalar, which stores the address of the unnamed array. Also even if we are de-referencing $node, should we not refer to the individual elements by an index number example (0,1). If we do use "NEXT" as a key, is $node a reference to a hash? I am very confused. Something in plain English will be highly appreciated.

• Tallying records using annotate() not working as should.

  I have two classes: Vehicle and Issues....a Vehicle object can have several issues recorded in the Issues class. What I want to do is to have a list of all issues, with each vehicle appearing only once and the total number of issues shown, plus other details....clicking on the record will then take the user to another page with all those issues for a selected vehicle shown in detail now.   Background This is an optimization problem. Oracle Forms XML files have elements such as: <Trigger TriggerName="name" TriggerText="SELECT * FROM DUAL" ... /> Where the TriggerText is arbitrary SQL code. Each SQL statement has been extracted into uniquely named files such as: sql/module=DIAL_ACCESS+trigger=KEY-LISTVAL+filename=d_access.fmb.sql sql/module=REP_PAT_SEEN+trigger=KEY-LISTVAL+filename=rep_pat_seen.fmb.sql I wrote a script to generate a list of exact duplicates using a brute force approach. Problem There are 37,497 files to compare against each other; it takes 8 minutes to compare one file against all the others. Logically, if A = B and A = C, then there is no need to check if B = C. So the problem is: how do you eliminate the redundant comparisons? The script will complete in approximately 208 days.   I just started learning CakePHP 2.0 a few days ago, and there's one thing that is leaving me stumped: say I have an User model and a Posts model: class User extends AppModel { public $name = "User"; public $hasMany=array( 'Post' => array( 'className' => 'Post', 'foreignKey' => 'author_id' ) ); } class Post extends AppModel { public $name = 'Post'; public $belongsTo = array( 'className' = 'User', 'foreignKey' = 'author_id', ); } (Where "author_id" is the foreign key in the posts table that references the Users table's primary key). And now, in the PostsController, I want to access the properties of the user that owns the current post (to show his display name, for example). What would be the proper syntax? I tried: $this->Post->User->find('first', array('conditions' => array('User.id' => "$usuario"))) But it didn't work (I guess it's because the User is the parent of the Post object, not its child). Or should CakePHP load everything automatically, once you've declared the $hasMany and $belongsTo relationships?

• How to call javascript function when url variable is sent

  Hello, heres basically what I need to get done. I have a jsp page which allows me to add/modify/delete an item. The items are stored in a database which I have controller classes to access(dont worry bout that part) When an item gets selected and deleted the id of the item gets sent to the controller to be processed. The item will not always be deleted if their is a foreign key constraint so I send either a delete=true or delete=false through url back to the jsp page. I would like to have it so a javascript function gets called displaying an alert saying the item was deleted or the item was not deleted. can someone please tell me the best way to do this? thank you

  In our manufacturing shop, each Employee hits the time clock every time they change Jobs or Machines (work centers) during their work day. Each record created in the Time Clock app has foreign keys that link the record to: the Employee, the Job, and the Machine which they are about to operate. I’m trying to determine the best name for this table… If I were tempted to call it ClockRecords or TimeClockRecords, why wouldn’t I also consider naming it JobTimeRecords, or why not MachineTimeRecords. Any ideas on a good name?

I don't want to this 26 times (one time for each letter in the alphabet), I tried to use class instead of id but that causes all the #show to toggleup heh.

I think this is a job for CURL but is there something simpler as I don't want to really worry about enabling the CURL php extension?   I used the subsonic generator to create some aspx pages, It works fine. On some of the pages it automaticaly generated the dropdown boxes for foreign key values. How Can change that value in the load drops code? Or where I need to change it. For instance I have a workers table and a workersweek table. The workers table has a workerid,firstname and lastname field and the workersweek has a workerID field. The generator automatically set it up to show the firstname in the dropdown. I want to change the value to be both firstname and lastname. I am sure I will have to add code that does something like firstname + " " + Lastname. I am just not sure where to do it withing the code that was generated. I see the load drops sub, but it does not seem like that is the one I need to modify.

I am allowing the user to select items in a checkboxlist representing the columns they would like displayed in a gridview that is bound to the results of a L2S query. ICacheRepository Say I have the following: public class Person { public int PersonId { get; set; } public string Firstname { get; set; } public string Lastname { get; set; } public DateTime Added { get; set; } } And I have something like this: list.Where(x => x.Firstname == "Syska"); Here I want to extract the above information, to see if the query supplied the "PersonId" which it did not, so I dont want to cache it. But lets say I run a query like this: list.Where(x => x.PersonId == 10); Since PersonId is my key ... I want to cache it. with the key like "Person_10" and I later can fetch it from the cache. I know its possible to extract the information with Expression<Func<>> but there seems to be a big overhead of doing this (when running compile and extract the Constant values etc. and a bunch of cache to be sure to parse right) Are there a framework for this? Or some smart/golden way of doing this ?

  We're learning B-trees in class and have been asked to implement them in code. The teacher has left choice of programming language to us and I want to try and do it in C#. My problem is that the following structure is illegal in C#, unsafe struct BtreeNode { int key_num; // The number of keys in a node int[] key; // Array of keys bool leaf; // Is it a leaf node or not? BtreeNode*[] c; // Pointers to next nodes } Specifically, one is not allowed to create a pointer to point to the structure itself. Is there some work-around or alternate approach I could use? I'm fairly certain that there MUST be a way to do this within the managed code, but I can't figure it out. EDIT: Eric's answer pointed me in the right direction. • encrypting passwords in a python conf file on a windows platform

  Hello all. I have a script running on a remote machine. db info is stored in a configuration file. I want to be able to encrypt the password in the conf text so that no one can just read the file and gain access to the database. This is my current set up: My conf file sensitive info is encoded with base64 module. The main script then decodes the info. I have compiled the script using py2exe to make it a bit harder to see the code. My question is: Is there a better way of doing this? I know that base64 is not a very safe way of encrypting. Is there a way to encode using a key? I also know that py2exe can be reversed engineered very easily and the key could be found. Any other thoughts? I am also running this script on a windows machine, so any modules that are suggested should be able to run in a windows environment with ease. I know there are several other posts on this topic but I have not found one with a windows solution, or at least one that is will explained.

• Getting Values from fetched Core Data

  Hi there, Thanks to the wonderful people on this forum, I have overcome most of my Core Data woes. However one persists, and I'm certain it is a simple fix. I have a recipe app that parses an XML doc on load and puts the data in Core Data. Then I search that Core Data for particular recipes, ingredients, etc. Everything is working with one exception... I cannot do anything with the data I retrieve. For example, I search the core data for "eggplant" and get this at the end of the process: "<RecipeData: 0x6112a40> (entity: RecipeData; id: 0x6113880 <x-coredata:///RecipeData/tCDE9A0EE-DA3F-4BD0-AEF8-3C038586991D4> ; data: {\n ingredients = \"Eggplant|Cheese|Tomatoes|\";\n name = \"Eggplant Parm\";\n time = 40;\n})" How do I get the info out of there? • What am I doing wrong with my ItemsControl & databinding?

  I'm reworking my simple hex editor to practice using what I've recently learned about data binding in WPF. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. As I understand it, for each byte in the collection "backend" (inherits from ObservableCollection), my ItemsControl should apply the DataTemplate under resources. This template is just a textbox with a binding to a value converter. So I'm expecting to see a row of textboxes, each containing a string representation of one byte. When I use this XAML, all I get is a single line of uneditable text, which as far as I can tell doesn't use a textbox. What am I doing wrong? • C# form - checkboxes do not respond to plus/minus keys - easy workaround?

  On forms created with pre dotNET VB and C++ (MFC), a checkbox control responded to the plus/minus key without custom programming. When focus was on the checbox control, pressing PLUS would check the box, no matter what the previous state (checked/unchecked), while pressing MINUS would uncheck it, no matter the previous state. C# winform checkboxes do not seem to exhibit this behavior. Said behavior was very, very handy for automation, whereby the automating program would set focus to a checkbox control and issue a PLUS or MINUS to check or uncheck it. Without this capability, that cannot be done, as the automation program (at least the one I am using) is unable to query the current state of the checkbox (so it can decide whether to issue a SPACE key to toggle the state to the desired one). I've gone over the properties of a checkbox in the Visual Studio 2008 IDE and could not find anything that would restore/enable response to PLUS/MINUS. Since I am in control of the sourcecode for the WinForms in question, I could replace all checkbox controls with a custom checkbox control, but blech, I'd like to avoid that - heck, I don't think I could even consider that given the amount of refactoring that would need to be done. So the bottom line is: does anyone know of a way to get this behavior back more easily than a coding change?

• Multiple ID's in database

  I have a database that contains a few tables such as person, staff, member, and supporter. The person table contains information about every staff, member, and supporter. The information it contains is name,address,email, and telephone. I also created an id that is the primary key. My issue is that I also have an primary key ID for staff, member, and supporter. For instance, in the person table is John with id 1. He is a supporter so in the supporter table is pID(for person id)to reference back to John with all his information and ID(for supporter ID). pID references to the person table and every person has an ID incremented by 1 starting at 1. supporter ID is for every supporter and also starts at 1 and is incremented by 1. Is it possible to have in the supporter table pID = 1 and supporter ID = 1? Another person may have a pID = 26 and supporter ID = 5. Or will supporter ID have to be different than the pID and be something like "sup"? So you would have pID = 1 and supporter ID = sup1 or pID = 26 and supporter ID = sup5

  Hi, I've been handed a dataset that has some fairly basic table structures with no keys at all. eg {myRubishTable} - Area(varchar),AuthorityName(varchar),StartYear(varchar),StartMonth(varcha),EndYear(varchar),EndMonth(varchar),Amount(Money) there are other tables that use the Area and AuthorityName columns as well as a general use of Month and Years so I I figured a good first step was to pull Area and Authority into their own tables. I now want to process the data in the original table and lookup the key value to put into my new table with foreign keys which looks like this. (lookup Tables) {Area} - id (int, PK), name (varchar(50)) {AuthorityName} - id(int, PK), name(varchar(50) (TargetTable) {myBetterTable} - id (int,PK), area_id(int FK-Area),authority_name_id(int FK-AuthorityName),StartYear (varchar),StartMonth(varchar),EndYear(varchar),EndMonth(varchar),Amount(money) so row one in the old table read MYAREA, MYAUTHORITY,2009,Jan,2010,Feb,10000 and I want to populate the new table with 1,1,1,2009,Jan,2010,Feb,10000 where the first '1' is the primary key and the second two '1's are the ids in the lookup tables. Can anyone point me to the most efficient way of achieving this using just SQL? Thanks in advance Footnote:- I've achieved what I needed with some pretty simple WHERE clauses (I had left a rogue tablename in the FROM which was throwing me :o( ) but would be interested to know if this is the most efficient. ie SELECT [area].[area_id], [authority].[authority_name_id], [myRubishTable].[StartYear], [myRubishTable].[StartMonth], [myRubishTable].[EndYear], [myRubishTable].[EndMonth], [myRubishTable].[Amount] FROM [myRubishTable],[Area],[AuthorityName] WHERE [myRubishTable].[Area]=[Area].[name] AND [myRubishTable].[Authority Name]=[dim_AuthorityName].[name] TIA
