• UAC being turned off once a day on Windows 7

  I have strange problem on my HP laptop. This began to happen recently. Whenever I start my machine, Windows 7 Action Center displays the following warning: You need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off. Actually, this does not happen if it happened once on a specific day. For example, when I start the machine in the morning, it shows up; but it never shows up in the subsequent restarts within that day. On the next day, the same thing happens again. I never disable UAC, but obviously some rootkit or virus causes this. As soon as I get this warning, I head for the UAC settings, and re-enable UAC to dismiss this warning. This is a bothersome situation as I can't fix it. First, I have run a full scan on the computer for any probable virus and malware/rootkit activity, but TrendMicro OfficeScan said that no viruses have been found. I went to an old Restore Point using Windows System Restore, but the problem was not solved. What I have tried so far (which couldn't find the rootkit): TrendMicro OfficeScan Antivirus AVAST Malwarebytes' Anti-malware Ad-Aware Vipre Antivirus GMER TDSSKiller (Kaspersky Labs) HiJackThis RegRuns UnHackMe SuperAntiSpyware Portable Tizer Rootkit Razor (*) Sophos Anti-Rootkit SpyHunter 4 There are no other strange activities on the machine. 8204 bytes As suggested in this very similar question, I have run full scans (+boot time scans) with RegRun and UnHackMe, but they also did not find anything. I have carefully examined all entries in the Event Viewer, but there's nothing wrong. Now I know that there is a hidden trojan (rootkit) on my machine which seems to disguise itself quite successfully. Note that I don't have the chance to remove the HDD, or reinstall the OS as this is a work machine subjected to certain IT policies on a company domain. Despite all my attempts, the problem still remains. I strictly need a to-the-point method or a pukka rootkit remover to remove whatever it is. I don't want to monkey with the system settings, i.e. disabling auto runs one by one, messing the registry, etc. EDIT 2: I have found an article which is closely related to my trouble: Malware can turn off UAC in Windows 7; “By design” says Microsoft. It is happening once a day for sure no matter if the machine is rebooted.

  I just installed SharePoint 2010 on my Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 server with SQL Server 2008.   I have a certificate issued by a CA on our intranet (it's a V3 sha1 pfx file). When I use this in the signing part of my clickonce (vsto addin) project, I get the error: C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v9.0\OfficeTools\Microsoft.VisualStudio.Tools.Office.Office2007.targets(250,9): error MSB3482: An error occurred while signing: Invalid provider type specified. • Invalid or expired security context token in WCF web service

  All, I have a WCF web service (let's called service "B") hosted under IIS using a service account (VM, Windows 2003 SP2). The service exposes an endpoint that use WSHttpBinding with the default values except for maxReceivedMessageSize, maxBufferPoolSize, maxBufferSize and some of the time outs that have been increased. The web service has been load tested using Visual Studio Load Test framework with around 800 concurrent users and successfully passed all tests with no exceptions being thrown. The proxy in the unit test has been created from configuration. There is a sharepoint application that use the Office Sharepoint Server Search service to call web services "A" and "B". The application will get data from service "A" to create a request that will be sent to service "B". The response coming from service "B" is indexed for search. The proxy is created programmatically using the ChannelFactory. When service "A" takes less than 10 minutes, the calls to service "B" are successfull. But when service "A" takes more time (~20 minutes) the calls to service "B" throw the following exception: Exception Message: An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party. See the inner FaultException for the fault code and detail Inner Exception Message: The message could not be processed. This is most likely because the action 'namespace/OperationName' is incorrect or because the message contains an invalid or expired security context token or because there is a mismatch between bindings. The security context token would be invalid if the service aborted the channel due to inactivity. To prevent the service from aborting idle sessions prematurely increase the Receive timeout on the service endpoint's binding. The binding settings are the same, the time in both client server and web service server are synchronize with the Windows Time service, same time zone. When i look at the server where web service "B" is hosted i can see the following security errors being logged: Source: Security Category: Logon/Logoff Event ID: 537 User NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Logon Failure: Reason: An error occurred during logon Logon Type: 3 Logon Process: Kerberos Authentication Package: Kerberos Status code: 0xC000006D Substatus code: 0xC0000133 After reading some of the blogs online, the Status code means STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE and the substatus code means STATUS_TIME_DIFFERENCE_AT_DC. but i already checked both server and client clocks and they are syncronized. I also noticed that the security token seems to be cached somewhere in the client server because they have another process that calls the web service "B" using the same service account and successfully gets data the first time is called. Then they start the proccess to update the office sharepoint server search service indexes and it fails. Then if they called the first proccess again it will fail too. Has anyone experienced this type of problems or have any ideas? Regards, --Damian

I'm doing this inside a SharePoint WebPart in SharePoint 2007 on a 64-bit system. Project targets .NET 3.5 Impersonation is enabled in the web.config. The IIS Site in question is using an IIS App Pool with a domain user configured as the identity. I am able to instantiate a PrincipalContext as such: PrincipalContext pc = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain) Next, I try to grab a principal: using (PrincipalContext pc = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain)) { GroupPrincipal group = GroupPrincipal.FindByIdentity(pc, "MYDOMAIN\somegroup"); // snip: exception thrown by line above. } Both the above and UserPrincipal.FindByIdentity with a user SAM throw a DirectoryServicesCOMException: "Logon failure: Unknown user name or bad password" I've tried passing in a complete SAMAccountName to either FindByIdentity (in the form of MYDOMAIN\username) or just the username with no change in behavior. I've tried executing the code with other credentials using both the HostingEnvironment.Impersonate and SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges approaches and also experience the same result. I've also tried instantiating my context with the domain name in place: Principal Context pc = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain, "MYDOMAIN"); This throws a PrincipalServerDownException: "The server could not be contacted." I'm working on a reasonably hardened server. I did not lock the system down so I am unsure exactly what has been done to it. If there are credentials I need to allocate to my pool identity's user or in the domain security policy in order for these to work, I can configure the domain accordingly. Are there any settings that would be preventing my code from running? Am I missing something in the code itself? Is this just not possible in a SharePoint web? EDIT: Given further testing, my code functions correctly when tested in a Console application targeting .NET 4.0.   I am trying to run a command line action in my Team Build (MSBuild). When I run it on the command line of the build machine it works fine. But when run in the build script I get a "exited with code 3".   Hello, I've modified a couple of different applications' .config file like this: <startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true"> <supportedRuntime version="v4.0"/> </startup> When I did this for devenv.exe.config (VS 2005 - don't ask :) ), things work great - most of the Visual Studio used .NET 2.0 but I was able to make use of an assembly targeting .NET 4.0 framework. I tried to do the same thing for a custom .exe, which happens to be based on MS CAB (slightly modified) and has a hybrid mix of WPF and WinForms content. As soon as I modified this application's app config file, I started getting this exception, sometime during application startup: The Undo operation encountered a context that is different from what was applied in the corresponding Set operation. The possible cause is that a context was Set on the thread and not reverted(undone). System.InvalidOperationException: The Undo operation encountered a context that is different from what was applied in the corresponding Set operation. There's a big long stack trace that doesn't show anything in my application code directly (just a bunch of MS assemblies). If I modify the application's .config file to this: <startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true"> </startup> i.e.I remove the supportedRuntime element, then the application doesn't throw this exception. But when I go to the point in my code where I try to load my .NET 4 assembly, if fails with this: System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly '' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. I guess this is expected. I have two questions: 1) Any idea why I'm getting the System.InvalidOperationException exception when I modify this application's configuration file to include the supportedRuntime element, adding .NET 4 support and any suggestions on what I can do about it? 2) If the answer is "no idea why/don't know what you can do about it", then is possible for my .NET 3.5 SP1 code (C#) to provide more fine grain support for conditionally adding .NET 4 runtime support for a certain assembly(ies) without converting my entire application to target .NET 4, or without using the declarative config file approach? At some point I would convert the entire application to target .NET 4, but for the short term this is daunting task and I'm hope for some short term solution/hack.   Hi, what determins the timeout value for XMLHTTPRequest (msxml version) send method? I'm calling it from MS Sql server and the server profiler shows me 'completed' after 30 seconds, the same happens when calling it through client programm calling stored proc. I set the client connection timeout to 120 sec. So im thinking it must be msxml that cancels send method after 30 secs. Any ideas?

However, I only knew the OWA sub-domain because it's the server I have access to and that I'm using to test everything. I would not know it for sure or be able to guess it if this were a live app and the user was entering in their own Exchange email. I know that whatever generic autodiscover settings must be turned on, because I can enter: [email protected] into Apple Mail on Snow Leopard and it finds everything without trouble. So the question is... Should https://domain.exchangeserver.org/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml have worked, and I just missed a step when trying to connect to it? Or, Is there some trick (maybe involving pinging the email address?) that Apple Mail and other clients use to resolve the address to the OWA subdomain before sending the autodiscover request? Thanks to anyone who knows or can take a wild guess.

• Different Azure blob streams when using .Net client vs. REST interface

  I have encountered an unusual difference in the way that the .Net client for Azure and the direct REST API bring back streams of binary data. If I use the CloundBlob.DownloadToStream() vs. getting the response stream from the HTTP response, I get streams with the same length, but different content. Specifically the REST response seems to 0 out a series of bytes. I've discovered this issue because I'm trying to use the byte range feature for blobs which is currently not supported in the .Net client (if I'm wrong on this point and someone can point at where I can do this it might make the rest of this question irrelevant). • Getting uninitialized constant error when trying to run tests

  I just updated all my gems and I'm finding that I'm getting errors when trying to run Test::Unit tests. I'm getting the error copied below. That comes from creating new, empty Rails project, scaffolding a simple model, and running rake test. Tried Googling "uninitialized constant" and TestResultFailureSupport. The only thing I found was this bug report from 2007. I'm using OS X.
