  • Sorting By Multiple Conditions in Ruby

    - by viatropos
I have a collection of Post objects and I want to be able to sort them based on these conditions: First, by category (news, events, labs, portfolio, etc.) Then by date, if date, or by position, if a specific index was set for it Some posts will have dates (news and events), others will have explicit positions (labs, and portfolio). I want to be able to call posts.sort!, so I've overridden <=>, but am looking for the most effective way of sorting by these conditions. Below is a pseudo method: def <=>(other) # first, everything is sorted into # smaller chunks by category self.category <=> other.category # then, per category, by date or position if self.date and other.date self.date <=> other.date else self.position <=> other.position end end It seems like I'd have to actually sort two separate times, rather than cramming everything into that one method. Something like sort_by_category, then sort!. What is the most ruby way to do this?

  • Preventing multiple reporting of the same rule violation in FxCop -- What is Id?

    - by Dave
FxCop is currently reporting the same rule violation for a particular method -- it has two out parameters, because I want to return two values to the caller without creating a struct for it. I wonder if anonymous types would solve my problem, but I didn't know about them at the time I had written the method. Anyhow, I'm getting CheckId CA1021 reported once for each parameter. I've copied the SuppressMessage text from FxCop, and then realized that the Id for each message is different! To me, it seems like you only need the CheckId, so... what is the Id used for? I haven't been able to find information about it online. will the Id remain the same? I assume so, or SuppressMessage wouldn't work the way one would want it to is there a way to specify the SuppressMessage attribute so that it suppresses for all Ids?

  • WPF: How to get Binding.Converter

    - by Nike
I create DataGrid Columns with Binding (where i is a Int value): dataGrid.Columns.Add(new DataGridTextColumn { Header = i.ToString(), Binding = CreateBinding(i), }); private Binding CreateBinding(int num) { Binding bind = new Binding(string.Format("[{0}]", num)); bind.Converter = new CellValueConverter(); return bind; } In the CreateBinding method I have an access to bind.Converter property. I need to call Converter.Convert() method in some handler, but there is no Converter property when I try to access it: (dataGrid.Columns[clm] as DataGridTextColumn).Binding."no Converter property!" How can I get my CellValueConverter which was created for particular Column?

  • How to effectively copy an array in java ?

    - by Tony
The toArray method in ArrayList , Bloch uses both System.arraycopy and Arrays.copyOf to copy an array . public <T> T[] toArray(T[] a) { if (a.length < size) // Make a new array of a's runtime type, but my contents: return (T[]) Arrays.copyOf(elementData, size, a.getClass()); System.arraycopy(elementData, 0, a, 0, size); if (a.length > size) a[size] = null; return a; } How to compare these two copy method , when to use which ? Thanks.

  • Grabbing random object from ArrayList is not random.

    - by Isai
I am creating a method where if you pass in a parameter of type Random, then it will return a random object. Here is basically what I am trying to do: public T choose(Random r) { int randomInt = r.nextInt(randomList.size()); // randomList is just a instance variable return randomList.get(randomInt); } The random list has this the following strings:[2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, c, c, c, a, a, a, a] Then I made a driver with the following code for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { System.out.print(rndList.choose(rnd)); // rnd is initialized as a static Random variable } However my outputs are not coming out random. I used the debugger and found out that my choose method generates an integer that is relatively low, so it will always print out either 2's or 1's but never c's or a's. I can't figure out why this is happening and help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Spring webflow 1.0 - Downloading a file

    - by Dave
I am using spring webflow 1.0. I am uploading a csv file, parsing it, and displying results before proceeding. The user has an option to download a csv file that contains the records that did not pass validation. When I click the link in a JSP to download this file, webflow invokes a form Action. The form action writes out a file via getting the output stream off the response: HttpServletResponse response = ((ServletExternalContext) context.getExternalContext()).getResponse(); I do not want to leave the jsp I'm currently on. I just want to download the file. In other words, I do not want to transition to another state. I just want to serve the dynamically rendered file. Everything works (I don't leave the page, and I download the file), but I'm getting the following error in my console: _pEncydKfggPHJo8=org.springframework.webflow.engine.NoMatchingTransitionException: No transition was matched on the event(s) signaled by the [1] action(s) that executed in this action state 'downloadErrorReportAction' of flow 'myFlow'; transitions must be defined to handle action result outcomes -- possible flow configuration error? • Compiled Queries and "Parameters cannot be sequences"

  • Fatal error: Call to a member function item() on a non-object

    - by Andree
Hi there! I have a weird problem. I have a PHP class with the following method: public function __construct() { parent::__construct(); $this->CI =& get_instance(); $this->log(method_exists($this->CI->config, 'item')); // Outputs TRUE $firephp_enabled = $this->CI->config->item('firephp_enabled'); // Error point $this->setEnabled($firephp_enabled); } $this->CI->config has a method item, and it has been verified using method_exists(). But when I call $this->CI->config->item(), I got the following error: Fatal error: Call to a member function item() on a non-object Can anyone tell me what might be the problem here? Thanks, Andree.

  • How to parse a string into a nullable int in C# (.NET 3.5)

    - by Glenn Slaven
I'm wanting to parse a string into a nullable int in C#. ie. I want to get back either the int value of the string or null if it can't be parsed. I was kind of hoping that this would work int? val = stringVal as int?; But that won't work, so the way I'm doing it now is I've written this extension method public static int? ParseNullableInt(this string value) { if (value == null || value.Trim() == string.Empty) { return null; } else { try { return int.Parse(value); } catch { return null; } } } Is there a better way of doing this? EDIT: Thanks for the TryParse suggestions, I did know about that, but it worked out about the same. I'm more interested in knowing if there is a built-in framework method that will parse directly into a nullable int?

  • Java.lang.reflext.Proxy returning another proxy from invocation results in ClassCastException on ass

    - by matao
So I'm playing with geotools and I thought I'd proxy one of their data-access classes and trace how it was being used in their code. I coded up a dynamic proxy and wrapped a FeatureSource (interface) in it and off it went happily. Then I wanted to look at some of the transitive objects returned by the featureSource as well, since the main thing a FeatureSource does is return a FeatureCollection (FeatureSource is analogous to a sql DataSource and featurecollection to an sql statement). in my invocationhandler I just passed the call through to the underlying object, printing out the target class/method/args and result as I went, but for calls that returned a FeatureCollection (another interface), I wrapped that object in my proxy (the same class but a new instance, shouldn't matter should it?) and returned it. BAM! Classcast exception: java.lang.ClassCastException: $Proxy5 cannot be cast to org.geotools.feature.FeatureCollection at $Proxy4.getFeatures(Unknown Source) at MyClass.myTestMethod(MyClass.java:295) the calling code: FeatureSource<SimpleFeatureType, SimpleFeature> featureSource = ... // create the FS featureSource = (FeatureSource<SimpleFeatureType, SimpleFeature>) FeatureSourceProxy.newInstance(featureSource, features); featureSource.getBounds();// ok featureSource.getSupportedHints();// ok DefaultQuery query1 = new DefaultQuery(DefaultQuery.ALL); FeatureCollection<SimpleFeatureType, SimpleFeature> results = featureSource.getFeatures(query1); //<- explosion here the Proxy: public class FeatureSourceProxy implements java.lang.reflect.InvocationHandler { private Object target; private List<SimpleFeature> features; public static Object newInstance(Object obj, List<SimpleFeature> features) { return java.lang.reflect.Proxy.newProxyInstance( obj.getClass().getClassLoader(), obj.getClass().getInterfaces(), new FeatureSourceProxy(obj, features) ); } private FeatureSourceProxy(Object obj, List<SimpleFeature> features) { this.target = obj; this.features = features; } public Object invoke(Object proxy, Method m, Object[] args)throws Throwable{ Object result = null; try { if("getFeatures".equals(m.getName())){ result = interceptGetFeatures(m, args); } else{ result = m.invoke(target, args); } } catch (Exception e) { throw new RuntimeException("unexpected invocation exception: " + e.getMessage(), e); } return result; } private Object interceptGetFeatures(Method m, Object[] args) throws Exception{ return newInstance(m.invoke(target, args), features); } } Is it possible to dynamically return proxies of interfaces from a proxied interface or am I doing something wrong? cheers!

  • Searching Outlook Global Adress List

    - by MoominTroll
I'm pulling up the Global Address List from Outlook like so... Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application oApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application(); AddressList gal = oApp.Session.GetGlobalAddressList(); ...with the aim of eventually being able to search through this in my own application to retrieve contact information which I can then supply to a method that squirrels off an email. Unfortunately given that my own GAL has about 20K entries in (the customers much more) using a foreach or something simply doesn't work in an acceptable timeframe. I want to pass a string like "Tom" to a method and have it return a list of possible contacts. Is this possible outside of actually opening up Outlook and creating the mail there? Note: There are a couple of other questions similar to this but most seem to have no good answer. I'm hoping I have more luck.

  • How to shrink-to-fit an std::vector in a memory-efficient way?

    - by dehmann
I would like to 'shrink-to-fit' an std::vector, to reduce its capacity to its exact size, so that additional memory is freed. The standard trick seems to be the one described here: template< typename T, class Allocator > void shrink_capacity(std::vector<T,Allocator>& v) { std::vector<T,Allocator>(v.begin(),v.end()).swap(v); } The whole point of shrink-to-fit is to save memory, but doesn't this method first create a deep copy and then swaps the instances? So at some point -- when the copy is constructed -- the memory usage is doubled? If that is the case, is there a more memory-friendly method of shrink-to-fit? (In my case the vector is really big and I cannot afford to have both the original plus a copy of it in memory at any time.)

  • Setting a value into a object using reflection

    - by marionmaiden
Hello I have an object that has a lot of attributes, each one with it's getter and setter. Each attribute has a non primitive type, that I don't know at runtime. For example, what I have is this: public class a{ private typeA attr1; private typeB attr2; public typeA getAttr1(){ return attr1; } public typeB getAttr2(){ return attr2; } public void setAttr1(typeA at){ attr1 = at; } public void setAttr2(typeB at){ attr2 = at; } } public class typeA{ public typeA(){ // doesn't matter } } public class typeB{ public typeB(){ // doesn't matter } } So, using reflection, I obtained the setter method for an attribute. Setting a value in the standard way is something like this: a test = new a(); a.setAttr1(new typeA()); But how can I do this using reflection? I already got the setAttr1() method using reflection, but I don't know how to create a new typeA object to be inserted in the setter.

  • Some basic COM question...

    - by smwikipedia
I have just finished my first COM server DLL. And it runs smoothly. So I'd like to show my understanding for now and hear your critics. 1- How COM simply works? COM - "The Call Chain" COM Lib methods - Traditional DLL exports - Classes encapsulated in the COM DLL 2- With C++, the benefits like "interface" in OOP can only be taken advantage of at the source level. With COM, these benefits can be used at a binary level. 3- Some illustration about interface &pInterface ------- pInterface ---------- Interface----------------- methods Ixx ** Ixx * (method table) (void **) A Interface is a data structure in memory. It's nothing but a memory area containg a method table. Is my understanding alright? Thanks for your revision.

  • Smoothing Small Data Set With Second Order Quadratic Curve

    - by Rev316
I'm doing some specific signal analysis, and I am in need of a method that would smooth out a given bell-shaped distribution curve. A running average approach isn't producing the results I desire. I want to keep the min/max, and general shape of my fitted curve intact, but resolve the inconsistencies in sampling. In short: if given a set of data that models a simple quadratic curve, what statistical smoothing method would you recommend? If possible, please reference an implementation, library, or framework. Thanks SO!

  • GKSession sendDataToAllPeers including sender?

    - by Typeoneerror
I've got a number of devices connected over wifi using GameKit. I have a simple UIAlertView popping up when peers receive data. All but the sendee show this alert view when data is sent, so I'm wondering if that's a bug in my app or if that's expected behavior. If the device doing the sending is also a GKSessionModePeer, I would expect it to "fire" its receiveData: message as well since I'm sending to all peers. Should I call a method manually at the same on the sendee device? For example, if I wanted to send a "GameStart" packet to the 4 phones, the peers would call startGame: in the receiveData:fromPeer:inSession:context: method when it receives that packet and the sendee would be calling sendDataToAllPeers: and call startGame: on itself. Does that sound right or is there a way to include the sendee in the sendDataToAllPeers: list so that it responds exactly the same as all connected peers?

  • which collection should I use

    - by Masna
Hello, I have a number of custom objects of type X. X has a number of parameters and must be unique in the collection. (I created my own equals method based on the custom parameters to examine this) In each object of type x, I have a list of objects y. I want to add/remove/modify easily an object y. For example: To write the add method, it would be something like add(objTypeX, objTypeY) I would check or the collections already has a objTypeX. If so: i would add the objTypeY to the already existing objTypeX else: i would create objTypeX and add objTypeY to this object. To modify an objTypeY, it would be something like(objTypeX, objTypeY, newobjTypeY) I would get objTypeX out of the collections and modify objTypeY to newobjTypeY Which collections should I use? I tried with hashset but i can get a specific object out of the list, without run down the list till I find that object. I develop this in vb.net 3.5

  • Is it possible to define a generic lambda?

    - by Mike OBrien
I have some logic in a method that operates on a specified type and I'd like to create a generic lambda that encapsulates the logic. This is the spirit of what I'm trying to do: public void DoSomething() { // ... Func<T> GetTypeName = () => T.GetType().Name; GetTypeName<string>(); GetTypeName<DateTime>(); GetTypeName<int>(); // ... } I know I can pass the type as a parameter or create a generic method but I'm interested if it can just be a generic lambda (So I'm not looking for alternatives). From what I can tell C# 3.0 doesn't support this. TIA, m
