    We would like to detect what devices & what programs users are using to connect to the Windows 2008 R2 Remote Desktop. In particular, we would like to have an ability to detect the remote devices such as iPads, iPhones & Androids, identify the software used and allow these connections only for certain users based on combination of the client OS + software. If it can be done in powershell to be run as part of the logon script, that'd be ideal.

    I am looking to create a 301 redirect based purely on a query string see b OLD URL: olddomain.com/?pc=/product/9999 New URL: newurl.php?var=yup My normal way of doing this would be redirect 301 pc=/product/9999 newurl.php?var=yup But this time I am trying to match a URL that that only contains the domain and a query string... What is the best way of doing this? Thanks

  • Is the Intel Core i5 mobile processor better than the Intel Core i7 mobile processor?

    I'm shopping for a new laptop from Dell (going to install Ubuntu on it) and I'm currently trying to sort out which processor I want. Based purely on the clock speed, it would seem that the core i5 is better than the core i7. The Intel® Core™ i5-430M has a 2.26GHz clock speed, while the Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Quad Core Processor only has a 1.6GHz clock speed. Would this not indicate that the i5 is faster than the i7?

  • Ethernet switch capacity question

    We're looking at hooking up 48 small embedded systems with 10/100 Ethernet ports to an Ethernet switch and then have that switch talk to a server upstream via a faster connection. I have a couple of questions about that scenario: What kind of upstream connection is best (fiber, other?) Would it be reasonable to download 1GB/hour from each of the 48 systems concurrently?     We currently have a Windows Server 2008 machine that we have configured with a Custom Task to send an email whenever an error occurs in a certain Event Log. The trigger works perfectly, and sends emails whenever we need them to. HOWEVER, we cannot find a way to get the email to contain information about the error, particularly the error message. Is there any way to have the message change based on the contents of the event-log error?

    I installed the dropbox using the text based install method described here. However I'd now like dropbox to start automatically when the machine starts up, and start syncing the files. I'll need dropbox to run as the dropbox user, from the dropbox users home directory. I think the following command will launch dropbox as the dropbox user, in the dropbox users home directory, would you correct me if this doesn't work?     This is assuming that you (/police/ISP) can get the [rough] location of a laptop based on IP address. If your laptop is stolen, and the thief unwittingly connects it to the Internet, and you have Skype on the laptop could you get the public IP address of the laptop and then go to the police and get it tracked? Or activate the webcam to see the surroundings, but without having Skype ring/notify the user?

    The internet is full of vague information about how you can downgrade the Windows 8.1 preview to Windows 8, and I kind of want to try it, but only if it's not going to be too inconvenient to uninstall if I need to. Here is my exact situation: I installed Windows 8 using an OEM CD. If I install the Windows 8.1 preview, can I use the factory restore feature to downgrade back to Windows 8? Does this change based on whether I installed using the Windows Store or the .iso?

  • ustream and justin.tv don't work, UTube and bitgravity are fine

    Can anyone explain this? On this laptop, ustream and justin.tv don't work - just get a blank screen. But UTube and bitgravoty work fine (also flash based). 64-bit windows 7 - but I have 64-bit windows 7 on my desktop machine and everything works fine there. Good place to test is here http://live.twit.tv/ where the bitgravity feeds work fine, but ustream and justin.tv don't.

    I'm using Microsoft Office 2003. I have installed 'Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, Powerpoint 2007' to support new xml based formats (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx). Now given that I have installed Compatibility pack, can I create or open a Microsoft Excel 2007 file (.xlsx) having more than 256 columns in Excel 2003? If no, then how can I achieve the same. My observation: When I open a .xlsx file in Excel 2003 with compatibility, I can't see more than 256 columns (till Column IV).

  • uTorrent repeatedly downloads old files from the RSS feed

    So I set up uTorrent to automatically download torrents from EZTV search-based RSS feeds. And it works splendidly. I just set feeds to download automatically, and didn't set up smart episode filters or anything else in the uTorrent itself. However, from time to time something happens to EZTV feeds which makes uTorrent re-download every single torrent in every feed. I'm looking for a workaround.

I easily found how to do this for the client: when you're managing the user account, go to "Dial-In" and click "Assign Static IP Addresses." Now, whenever a certain account dials in, I have control over their client VIP, but how do I set my server VIP for each account?
