  • Why some "non-profit" hoax and spam are created? [closed]

    Many spam/hoax has no direct link to any ripoff site or similar, they're just making sure people spread them ("forward this to at least 10 people or else"). Some of those may be created out of good faith, I'm not interested in those... But the rest, I since long suspect that there is some other reason for making them other than making fun of people (without getting much of the feedback)... Why are these created?

  • Where is the statusbar in Firefox 4? How do I get it back?

    Since version 4.0b7pre, there is no more statusbar in Firefox, which has been replaced by the new add-ons bar. The main problem is that a lot of users like me are missing some valuable information that was displayed in the statusbar on previous versions. For instance, when hovering a link the url is now displayed in the address bar and you can't see the entire address. Other information like which servers are being contacted when you load a page are no longer displayed.

  • Roaming profile is not loaded when user's password expires and is changed

    Our password policy makes users change pw every 30 days, when this happens they sometimes find they are logged on with a local profile and none of their settings. This generally only happens when the PC was slow at logging onto the network, but in this case I know it had plenty of time to do so. I can't work out why this is happening, is it related to a slow link?

    I have a Linux machine running as a bridge simulating various network conditions. I use tc for this. Introducing delays or packet loss is quite simple but I got into trouble trying to configure bandwidth limiting. Can you, please, show me how to limit all the traffic going through my bridge without any special rules and condition, simply limit it to 1Mb/s? Thanks.     hi, A customer of mine have been testing a trial of MS CRM 4.0 that I installed for them, but they concluded that it might be a bit heavy for them. I promised them to look into other CRM applications that use SQL Server as the backend and preferably has an Outlook plugin so you can do "CRM Stuff" directly from Outlook. If anyone knows about alternatives, I would appreciate it if you leave a link here!

But since we got a new system administrator who installed some policy to terminate disconnected sessions after some hours, I never again could reconnect to to an unexpectedly terminated session (usually VPN problem) I found the following link which shows a similat scenario.

  • Getting SEC to only monitor latest version of a log file?

    I have been tasked with running SEC to help correlate PHP logs. The basic setup is pretty straightforward, the problem I'm having is that we want to monitor a log file whose name contains the date(php-2012-10-01.log for instance). How can I tell SEC to only monitor the latest version of the file(and of course switch to the newest log file every day at midnight) I could do something like create a latest version of the file that links to the latest version and run a cron job at midnight to update the link, but I am looking for a more elegant solution

    Hello guys, I am setting up subversion using this link http://svn.spears.at/ It says that "As the Subversion book warns, make sure to create all repositories on your local disks [FiberChannel is treated as a local disk]. Failing to do so, may result in repository corruption. " This us a big problem for me. Isnt there a way I can set subversion on shared drives. Is there a work around because availability is a major concern with local drives.

    RE: Putting this out there in case someone else runs into this issue. The intel chipset is on-board. I discovered the reason for the crappy resolution in windows 7 was that the memory to share with the video card was set to 1MB in the BIOS.     I'm looking for some up-to-date information about postgresql internals, specifically the query optimizer. I've found this link (referred to in the "Further Reading" section of the 8.4 docs):- http://db.cs.berkeley.edu//papers/UCB-MS-zfong.pdf but it seems quite old. That in itself is not a problem, but I wanted to be sure that I have information that is relevant. Is this the best resource for understanding how postgresql processes queries (using plans, statistics etc.) or are there others?

  • Oracle Virtualbox on statically compiled kernel

    I can't seem to find any documentation on the subject. I'm working on putting together a linux install for a fairly "dirty" environment. Best practice there would be a statically compiled kernel with no module support. I can already do the customizations to strip out unnecessary drivers/etc to get the performance and disable module support. Does anyone have a link or any ideas on how to get the Oracle Virtualbox module (not the OSE one, I need USB passthrough) compiled in?

Isn't dev higher than beta? I thought there was these versions of Google Chrome, from lowest to highest version: Stable Beta Dev Canary (Chromium) Is the detection of my browser failing on the website, or have Google Chrome changed their versioning system?     I installed MinGW by using mingw-get-inst-20111118.exe and it works but it is very slow! i don't want to install it online, i remember that i have previously installed MinGW and msys by using two files mingw.exe and msys.exe without using the internet and it was great, but now i cant repeat what i have done and i cant find a link to mingw.exe! please i want a simple steps for offline better installation? thanks
