• Installing ubuntu server as linux distro on dell server - what drivers will be missed

  Dell (via USC) unpacks specific drivers for both RedHat and Suse to use after installation on its servers. As Ubuntu server isn't officially supported, this clearly isn't happening for Ubuntu. Is Ubuntu server then running with native drivers? In that case, which drivers are native with Ubuntu, and aren't (e.g. are Dell replaced) with RedHat/Suse? Are dell optimized drivers available for Ubuntu somewhere? Can the ones for RedHat or Suse be used with Ubuntu? Are there disadvantages of this lack of fine-tuned drivers, and if yes, what are they? Would they make the switch (and extra costs, as both RedHat and Suse Enterprise aren't cheap) away from the free Ubuntu server worthwhile? Dell recommends Canonical's commercial support for Ubuntu server on its machines, is this recommendable? Do they offer fine-tuned Dell drivers to replace native drivers?

• Serving .docx files through Php

  Hi, I'm having issues when attempting to serve a .docx file using Php. When uploading the file I detect the file mime type and upload the file using the file with the correct extension based on the mime type; e.g. below: application/msword - doc application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document - docx When attempting to serve the files for download, I do the reverse in detecting the extension and serving based on the mime type e.g. public static function fileMimeType($extention) { if(!is_null($extention)) { switch($extention) { case 'txt': return 'text/plain'; break; case 'odt': return 'application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text'; break; case 'doc': return 'application/msword'; break; case 'docx': return 'application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document'; break; case ('jpg' || 'jpeg'): return 'image/jpeg'; break; case 'png': return 'image/png'; break; case 'pdf': return 'application/pdf'; break; default: break; } } } All files appear to download correctly and open fine but when attempting to open a docx file, Word (on multiple files) throws a error stating the file is corrupt. • Windows 7 64bit keyboard issues

  I have a Pavilion dv4 notebook running Windows 7 64bit Enterprise edition. This morning I started to notice some really strange behavior in how it handled its built-in keyboard. At random intervals there will be a long delay in key presses, to which some keys will never show and other keys will continue to repeat until you hit the backspace. Other keys get mapped incorrectly to other keys. If I hook up an external keyboard the problem does not appear. Before I reformat the machine and do a fresh install, I thought I would check here to see if anyone has experienced this same issue and if so, how did you fix it?

  I have two fields that need to multiply each other and fill a 3rd form's value.   I am using a checkbox that has the name selectedids[], and I am trying to select all checkbox with the JavaScript but the code is not working. However, when I change the name of checkbox to selectedids it works but I can't do so because I need all the ids that are selected on the POSTED page.   On a Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit laptop joined to a corporate domain, the Windows Firewall is disabled by a global policy. Is there any way to enable the Windows Firewall in this scenario? The gpedit.msc setting Windows Firewall: Protect all network connections is inaccessible. EDIT: It appears that changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\gpsvc\Start value to 4 will disable the GPO and allow you to start the firewall and stop the bots from pushing cr*p to your computer... will check on Monday and if it works I'll confirm here in case someone else in my situation wonders upon this question... EDIT: It's probably better if I write a mock windows service not doing anything and name it according to what is expected to be on my box and than crete mock McCrappy executable and mock McCrappy folder structure and remove all the actual stuff... That would take a little time but would most certainly make my box completely stealthy...

• Why does JavaScript's getElementsByClassName provide an object that is NOT an array?

  I'm trying to get a list in JavaScript (not using jQuery) of all the elements on the page with a specific class name. I therefore employ the getElementsByClassName() function as follows: var expand_buttons = document.getElementsByClassName('expand'); console.log(expand_buttons, expand_buttons.length, expand_buttons[0]); Note that I have three anchor elements on my page with the class 'expand'. This console.log() outputs [] 0 undefined Next, for kicks, I threw expand_buttons into its own array as follows: var newArray = new Array(expand_buttons); console.log(newArray, newArray.length); This suddenly outputs [NodeList[3]] 1 and I can click through the nodelist and see the attributes of the three 'expand' anchor elements on the page. It's also worth noting that I was able to get my code working in a w3schools test page. It may also be of note that my use of document.getElementsByName actually does output (to the console) an array of elements, but when I ask for its length, it tells me 0. Similarly, if I try to access an array element using array_name[0] as normal, it outputs 'undefined', despite there clearly being an element inside of an array when I print the object to the console. Does anybody have any idea why this might be? I just want to loop through DOM elements, and I'm avoiding jQuery at the moment because I'm trying to practice coding with vanilla JavaScript. • Winlogon Application Error

  This error is happening to 6 out of 32 computers. I have created a base image from scratch using Ghost Enterprise, but error still shows on the same machines. It happens at the log on prompt and after doing a soft reset the message goes away, but it comes back eventually. -Error message- The Instruction at "0X74eF400e" referenced Memory at "0X00000000" The memory could not be "Written". Winlogon.exe - Application Error Any reason why this is happening? I have tried to run a memTest but everything shows okay.

I'm using a codec Firefox doesn't support, so it doesn't work there; although I suspect it will work with a supported codec. IE8 sure enough doesn't work (high five IE).

• Is there a way to undo deletion of registry keys while the machine is still running?

  [ also posted from a programmer's POV at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3299230 ] I messed up big time and deleted a large portion of my registry during a programming experiment: As a result most of the contents of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ are gone. I haven't logged off or shutdown since this happened. The applications that were already running seem to be coping fine so far but I suspect that after the next reboot there won't be much happiness left... Also, System Restore tells me there are no restore points even though I'm pretty sure there should have been. Could this be another symptom of the purged registry? I wouldn't have expected this information to be stored under HKCU, though... Does anybody know of a technique or utility that can possibly restore some or all of the deleted entries? I'm on Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit. I'm not really holding my breath but you can always hope, can't you?

  I'm trying to make an element isolation tool, where: All elements are shaded Selected elements, while hovered, are not shaded Originally, looking at the image lightbox implementations, I thought of appending an overlay to the document, then raising the z-index of elements upon hover. • Creating 1 page PDF of iPad Screen view - How?

  Hi All, I've asked this question on a couple other forums and have had zero response, so I'm hoping someone here can help point me in the right direction. I have a pretty simple one screen application for my work. It's basically just a recreation of a 1 page paper report that has a company logo, some labels, a few text boxes and a scroll text box for the report. I need to be able to fill out the report then click a button to save it in a graphical form so I can fax, print or email it later. Currently, I'm just programmatically taking a screen capture and saving it to the photo's library (default for screen capture). Then I can just email it from photo's. This works ok, but is kind of hacky, at best. I've read through the new iPad 3.2 guide for creating PDF's (apparently it's supposed to be much easier than before) but I can not get it to work and I've spent countless hours on it now. I'm hoping someone has the answer for me. Alternatively, if anyone knows how I can redirect where the screen capture is stored (default is in the photo album) then maybe I can make that function work. If I could redirect the screen capture to store in my applications document folder, then I can use MFMailCompose to attach it to an email. Lastly, on a side note, does anyone know of a good way to capture a digital signature via touch. For instance, I'd love to have my users be able to just sign their name via touch at the bottom of the document before I convert to PDF or take a screen capture. • Duplicate of IPSEC certificate template not displaying

  I am working on getting IPSEC working on computers outside my domain. I am unable to get a duplicate of the IPSec Offline Request template to show on the web interface. My CA is 2008 R2 Enterprise and the permissions on the template should be adequate to allow me access (my account has read and enroll). If I publish the original template it functions as desired. I also have other custom templates in use (although using autoenrollment). The duplicate is almost identical to the original, excepting that it has a longer validity period and the private key is marked as exportable. How do I debug at this point?

• Getting a Non-Genuine windows message on a Genuin Windows 7

  I have a Genuin Win7 enterprise on my Laptop. A few hours ago when I wanted to log into windows it did not accept my Password. I used the safe mode and it accepted the password I was using before this new password. It is the laptop for work and we have a changing password policy for every three months, so the pasword that I could use in SAFE MODE was the password I had for the last previous threee months. ... after that I used SYSTEM RESTORE and it reveretd it back to Yesterday ... so this time I could loging successfully with my current password. BUT It shows me a message that I am a victim of software counterfeiting and when I restarted the windows again and logged into windows, this time it is just a black desktop. weird...any ideas?

I tried: loading the #fb-root and facebook comment <script> on the main layout....doesn't work. adding FB.XFBML.parse(); into displayFB function....doesn't work adding FB.XFBML.parse(); into a $(document).ready(function(){} ...doesn't work.   I'm using MooTools 1.4.5 and I want to change cursor before calling function that takes some time and after finished same function set cursor to default. I was not successful. After that I made simple example to change background color via plain JavaScript (no jQuery or MooTools plugin) and again I was not successful. I assumed that the background color will bi set to red and after delay to yellow. It doesn't work. When page is loaded background color is yellow (last line). If I insert alert function in a middle of lines where sets background color everything works fine (background color is red, click to message box, background color is yellow). Why it works so? Only last changing style is affected. I need something like that to change pointer before calling function that takes 10 seconds and setting cursor to default value after function is done.

• Prevent bubbling without Jquery

  When I move mouse over the container panel, the child panel is displayed but as soon as i move mouse over the child panel, the mouseout event is triggered and panel get hidden. This is simplified version of my code because panels are located inside gridview and therefore i can't use document.getElementById("panelchild") as it is (the js will get the specific id latter), but for now i want to make it work for this simple case.
