• MVC LOB application

  Hi, I'm new to web development and i'm starting with a MVC project. I have a view to create a new Service. In this view, i need to have a button to show a dialog with client names (i also would like to implement filters and paging in this dialog). Once the user selects a client from the dialog, i need to populate some combo boxes in the Service View with info relative to that particular client. How can i accomplish this? If there any demo code or tutorial i can get my hands on to learn this? Thanks in advance for any tip.

• Custom Glassfish Security Realm does not work (unable to find LoginModule)

  I'm trying to get a Custom Security Realm in Glassfish working (i tried 3.0.1 final and 3.1 B33). I read nearly all tutorials about this, but it doesn not work on my System. I'm getting the error Login failed: javax.security.auth.login.LoginException: unable to find LoginModule class: de.company.security.utility.CustomLoginModule when trying to login. Here is what i did: I created a little Maven project, which contains the needed Realm class, CustomRealm, and the corresponding LoginModule, CustomLoginModule. For login, i build a really simple JSF-project, which calls the HttpServletRequest-login-method of Servlet 3.0. • Android: databinding when using a ArrayAdapter: possible?

  I need some simple databinding for a Spinner. I want to display 2 items for each dropdownitem. So when the user clicks the spinner I get a list like: ------------------- Name 123456 ------------------- Name 123456 ------------------- I understand this can be done when using a Cursor, according to the databinding info on android dev. Like: SimpleCursorAdapter adapter2 = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.my_custom_spinner_item_layout, cur, new String[] {People.NAME, People.ID}, new int[] {android.R.id.text1, android.R.id.text2}); However, I don't get my data from a database, so I don't use a cursor, I use a ArrayAdapter. Unfortunately it looks like there is no support for databinding with this adapter. Is there a way to do this?

• Indirect Postfix bounces create new user directories

  I'm running Postfix on my personal server in a data centre. I am not a professional mail hoster and not a Postfix expert, it is just used for a few domains served from that server. IIRC, I mostly followed this howto when setting up Postfix. Mails addressed to one of the domains the server manages are delivered locally (/srv/mail) to be fetched with Dovecot. Mails to other domains require usage of SMTPS. The mailbox configuration is stored in MySQL. The problem I have is that I suddenly found new mailboxes being created on the disk. Let's say I have the domain 'example.com'. Then I would have lots of new directories, e.g. /srv/mail/example.com/abenaackart /srv/mail/example.com/abenaacton etc. There are no entries for these addresses in my database, neither as a mailbox nor as an alias. It's clearly spam from auto-generated names. Most of them start with 'a', a few with 'b' and a couple of random ones with other letters. At first I was afraid of an attack, but all security restrictions seem to work. If I try to send mail to these addresses, I get an "Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table" during the 'RCPT TO' stage. So I looked into the mails stored in these mailboxes. Turns out that all of them are bounces. It seems like all of them were sent from a randomly generated name to an alias that really exists on my system, but pointed to an invalid destination address on another host. So Postfix accepted it, then tried to redirect it to another mail server, which rejected it. This bounced back to my Postfix server, which now took the bounce and stored it locally -- because it seemed to be originating from one of the addresses it manages. Example: My Postfix server handles the example.com domain. [email protected] is configured to redirect to [email protected]. [email protected] has since been deleted from the Hotmail servers. Spammer sends mail with FROM:[email protected] and TO:[email protected]. My Postfix server accepts the mail and tries to hand it off to hotmail.com. hotmail.com sends a bounce back. My Postfix server accepts the bounce and delivers it to /srv/mail/example.com/bob. The last step is what I don't want. I'm not quite sure what it should do instead, but creating hundreds of new mailboxes on my disk is not what I want... Any ideas how to get rid of this behaviour? I'll happily post parts of my configuration, but I'm not really sure where to start debugging the problem at this point.

Since the deserialization routines (I'm using BinaryFormatter, though I'd imagine others would be similar) look for a constructor with the same argument list as GetObjectData(), it seems like this can't be done directly . . Which I would presume means that the most elegant solution would be to actually use an enum, and then provide some sort of translation mechanism for turning an enum value into an instance reference. How might one go about this?

• What is a good layout for a somewhat advanced home network and storage solution?

  My home network/storage needs are changing and I am searching for some opinions and starting points on what a good network/storage layout would be that can serve my needs for a few years into the future. I think I have a decent starting point for equipment, but I am also willing to invest fairly heavily in a solution that can last me for a while. I am a bit of a tech nerd and I have a moderate tolerance for setup of the solution. I would prefer if maintenance of the system is somewhat low once it is setup, but I am willing to accept some tradeoffs. Existing equipment: Router - Netgear WNDR3700 (gigabit) Router - DLink Gamerlounge DGL-4300 (gigabit) Switch - 16 port Trendnet green switch (gigabit) Switch - 5 port Trendnet green (gigabit) Computer - i7-950 office computer (gigabit ethernet) Computer - Q6600 quad core media center, hooked up to TV, records shows (gigabit ethernet) Computer - Acer 1810T ultraportable laptop (gigabit and N ethernet) NAS - Intel SS4200-E (gigabit) External hard drive - 2TB WD Green drive (esata) All kinds of miscellaneous network connected TV, Bluray, Verizon network extender, HDhomerun TV tuners, etc. Requirements: -Robust backup solution for a growing collection of huge family picture files and personal files, around 1.5TB. (Including offsite backup) -Central location for all user's files, while also keeping them secure from each other. -Storage for terabytes of movie backups and recorded TV, and access to them from all computers (maybe around 4TB eventually) -Possibility to host files to friends and family easily Nice to have: -Backup of terabytes of movie backups Intriguing possibilities: -Capability to have users' Windows desktops and files look the same from all network computers I am not sure if the new Windows Home Server 2011 would fit into this well, if I need a domain server, how best to organize my backups, or how to most effectively use RAID. Currently I am simply backing up all computers to a RAID 1 on the NAS box, which I was thinking could prevent a situation where I reach for a backup and find that the disk is corrupt. One possibility that I am thinking about now is simply using my media center PC with a huge RAID of hard drives on which all files are stored. Pseudo-backup of all files would be present because of the RAID, but important files would also be backed up off site via carrying hard drives to work. But what if corruption seeps into the files and the corrupted data is then backed up? Does RAID protect against this? I really want to take next to zero risks with the irreplaceable files. I can handle some degree of risk with the movies and other files. I'm looking for critiques on this idea as well as other possibilities. To summarize, my goal is high functionality, media capable, and robust backup of irreplaceable files.

• naive bayesian spam filter question

  Hi guys, I am planning to implement spam filter using Naive Bayesian classification model. Online I see a lot of info on Naive Bayesian classification, but the problem is its a lot of mathematical stuff, than clearly stating how its done. And the problem is I am more of a programmer than a mathematician (yes I had learnt Probability and Bayesian theorem back in school, but out of touch for a long long time, and I don't have luxury of learning it now (Have nearly 3 weeks to come-up with a working prototype)). So if someone can explain or point me to location where its explained for programmers than a mathematician, it would be a great help. • Heap Dump Root Classes

  We have production system going into infinite loop of full gc and memory drops form 8 gigs to like 1 MB in just 2 minutes. After taking heap dump it tells me there an is an array of java.lang.Object ([Ljava.lang.Object) with millions of java.lang.String objects having same String taking 99% of heap. But it doesn't tell me which class is referencing to this array so that I can fix it in the code. I took the heap dump using jmap tool on JDK 6 and used JProfiler, NetBeans, SAP Memory Analyzer and IBM Memory Analyzer but none of those tell me what is causing this huge array of objects?? ... like what class is referencing to it or contains it. Do I have to take a different dump with different config in order to get that info? ... Or anything else that can help me find out the culprit class causing this ... it will help a lot.

  I am looking for some kind of analyzer tool for log files generated by log4j files. I am looking something more advanced than grep? What are you using for log file analysis? I am looking for following kinds of features: The tool should tell me how many time a given log statement or a stack trace has occurred, preferably with support for some kinds of patterns (eg. number of log statements matching 'User [a-z]* logged in'). Breakdowns by log level (how many INFO, DEBUG lines) and by class that initiated the log message would be nice. Breakdown by date (how many log statements in given time period) What log lines occur commonly together? Support for several files since I am using log rolling Hot spot analysis: find if there is a some time period when there is unusually high number of log statements Either command-line or GUI are fine Open Source is preferred but I am also interested in commercial offerings My log4j configuration uses org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout with pattern %d %p %c - %m%n but that could be adapted for analyzer tool.

  So I cant find a definitive answer to the Question. How do you load the app.config file into a DLL. I understand that generally the App.config info should be put into the executable app.config. However i am building an add-in and have to executable available. I would like to use the namespace.dll.config file to store my variables, but i need a way of loading it into the system. Do you need to build out some code to load this file in? Can you use the configurationManager namespace to make this happen easily?

• Reading custom values in Ebay RSS feed (XML::RSS module)

  I've spent entirely way too long trying to figure this out. I'm using XML:RSS and Perl to read / parse an Ebay RSS feed. Within the area, I see these entries: 1395 1255 However, I can't figure out how to grab the details during the loop. I wrote a regex to grab them: @current_price = $item =~ m/\(\d+)\<\/rx\:CurrentPrice/g; which works if you place the above 'CurrentPrice' entry into a standalone string, but not while the script is reading through the RSS feed. I can grab most of the information I want out of the item-description area (# bids, auction end time, BIN price, thumbnail image, etc), but it would be nicer if I could grab the info from the feed without me having to deal with grabbing all that information manually. If anybody knows how to grab custom fields from an RSS feed (short of writing regexes to parse the entire feed w/o a module), any help / insight would be appreciated.

• Encoding issues with Spring and Freemarker

  I'm working on a project using Freemarker and Spring running on Jetty. It will involve displaying characters from many different countries so I'm trying to set the encoding to UTF-8. However, no matter what I do, it remains ISO-8859-1. I tried to create a filter in my web.xml and I've tried putting this response.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8"); response.setContentType("text/html; charset=utf-8"); just before rendering the view. But when I load the page and click "View Page Info", the encoding is always ISO-8859-1. I've also tried hitting my app server directly to see if it was being affected by Apache but got the same result. Any help is appreciated.

• how to use Foreign key in L2E or EF?

  I have a User table which has a PrivilegeId foreign key points to a Privilege table and is the primary key there. In Entity Framework, the VS will not generate a PrivilegeId variable under Users for you. It will generate a Privilege property and PrivilegeReference property for you instead. When I load a User, the Privilege property is null by default. That means EF does not load refered entity for you automatically. I think I may did something wrong? I cannot load Privilege separatedly because I have no info about the Privilege at that time. I guess EF should load the refered entities for me but I missed something. anybody can help me?

  I have two local data sources that I can push into the report. Works no problem. But how do I set up the report? One data source contains a list of employees, and info about them. The other contains a bunch of working hours for each employee. I would like to use a table for the list of employees, and then have another table for the working hours beneath each employee (with their working hours). Is this even possible? Do I have to use a Sub-Report? Would I have to merge them into one datasource? =/

  Hello, I have a Page.xaml file and a AddNewProject.xaml. In the Page.xaml file I have a ProjectDetailsDataGrid and a button to add a new Project. When I click on the Add New Project button the AddNewProject.xaml file becomes visible for the user to enter new project information. I am having a problem trying to refresh the ProjectDetailsDataGrid (on the Page.xaml page) to display the new info. entered from the AddNewProject.xaml page. Is there anyway to accomplish refreshing a datagrid between two seperate xaml files? Thank you for your help.

From the template I pass context to the first templatetag, but the context is not available from the second templatetag (inside the first templatetag) - see below. I found in the Spring documentation @required which I attempted to use in a 'test' but got this stmt INFO XmlConfigurationProvider:380 - Unable to verify action class [xxx] exists at initialization I have found another way in spring to do this is to write custom init methods and declare those on the bean but it almost seems like this is a strange thing to do to a struts2 action. In my application I inject through spring different web services (via setter injection) into different actions. I want to ensure on startup these are not null and set.

• Python virtualenv conflicting

  I'm trying to learn Django, so I started by reading about virtualenv. After installing it with pip (, I end up with: ... sudo pip install virtualenv) ... virtualenv paths virtualenv at /usr/local/bin/virtualenv and virtualenv-2.7 at /usr/local/bin/virtualenv-2.7 If I use virtualenv-2.7 it seems to work fine, but if I use virtualenv, new modules get added to /usr/local/bin, instead of being inside the environment. Example cd ~ virtualenv v1 source v1/bin/activate easy_install yolk which yolk # /usr/local/bin If I use virtualenv-2-7, yolk gets installed correctly inside v1. Did I mess up the installation? How can I fix this? (maybe uninstall virtualenv and start over). Thanks for any help! Edit: I figured i have two easy_install bins /usr/bin/easy_install-2.7 and /usr/bin/easy_install easy_install --version distribute 0.6.24dev-r0 easy_install-2.7 --version distribute 0.6.24dev-r0 so this may be the cause of problems. • Asp.net fileupload control postback problems

  using ASP.net, vs2008 C#. Im using a FileUpload control on a webform. The uploading of a file (ie PDF dcouments) to a server directory works ok. I have on the webform a "preview" button that the user can use to preview the PDF file after they have selected it via the Fileupload browse feature. I do this by if (this.FileUpload1.HasFile) { localURL = FileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName; // use this to preview file. Other methods are restricted by local security requirements Process.Start(localURL); } My problems is that after the button click Postback occurs the location of the selected file disappears from the textbox part of the Fileupload control. How can i keep this info there, so the user does not have to browse again and instead can just click upload to upload the file. Any help appreciated thanks

• What is a good method to solve cabal install problems?

  I've used the cabal package manager for Haskell programs to install libraries and new projects that I've cloned from some repositories. More often than not, I keep running into problems. Most projects make installing them seem super easy, but in my case that's not always true - sometimes they are very hard to get running. Some are so hard, in fact, that I've lost interest in the project solely because of not being able to install it. So instead of complaining, I'd like to ask what I should do to better this situation. I'd like to use my most recent problem as an example. I'm interested in trying out the Gitit project. It's a promising looking personal wiki that runs on various version control systems. So here's what I've done: Clone from Github run cabal install in the project directory like I'm told on the project install page: mika@eka:~/git/gitit$ ls BLUETRIP-LICENSE CHANGES HCAR-gitit.tex LICENSE Network README.markdown RELANN-0.6.1 Setup.lhs TANGOICONS YUI-LICENSE data expireGititCache.hs gitit.cabal gitit.hs plugins mika@eka:~/git/gitit$ cabal install Resolving dependencies... cabal: cannot configure happstack-server-7.0.7. It requires base64-bytestring ==1.0.* For the dependency on base64-bytestring ==1.0.* there are these packages: base64-bytestring-1.0.0.0. The exception was: ExitFailure 1 So looks like there are some dependencies missing. But isn't installing these dependencies the whole point of using cabal in the first place? What should I do? File bug reports (to which project?), install the dependencies manually or something else? Bonus points for explaining what causes these kinds of problems.

• Best tools to monitor Tomcat

  Hi all, I'm searching free tools for monitor tomcat (traffic, memory usage, threads, requests, CPU, logs,...). I'm currently using lambdaprobe on Tomcat 5.5.x, but it seems that is no more developed (or not? the site lambdaprobe.org is always down for me...). Has someone good experiences to share? In lambdaprobe there are some info available only if tomcat is instrumented with JMX. Well, JMX is something of strange and mysterious for me. Is a good solution in a production server? It's worth to spend my (little) time to learn it?
