  • WinForms / .Net interactive world map - how?

    In a CD collection program, I have each artist's country of origin stored in the main database and want to display a map of the world which: Colour-codes each country depending on the number of CDs by artists in that country Allows clicking on each country to filter a list of CDs to only ones by artists in that country This is a heavily simplified version of what I'm trying to do, but if I can at least get this far the rest should be easy enough to figure out. So far the closest thing I've found to what I'm trying to do is here: http://www.synergetechsolutions.com/blog/analytics-world-map-control Ideally I don't want to be embedding Flash in my program though, and the only other solutions I've found all involve SVG which I haven't managed to get working in practice outside of a web browser control (and I DEFINITELY don't want to be embedding a browser in the forms). Something in pure managed code and either GDI+ or WPF would be preferable. Are there any existing components that would get me started, or can anyone suggest how to approach it from scratch?

  • Importing ctype; embedding python in C++ application

    I'm trying to embed python within a C++ based programming language (CCL: The compuatational control language, not that any of you have heard of it). Thus, I don't really have a "main" function to make calls from. I have made a test .cc program with a main, and when I compile it and run it, I am able to import my own python modules and system modules for use. When I embed my code in my CCL-based program and compile it (with g++), it seems I have most functionality, but I get the import error: ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload/_ctypes.so: undefined symbol: PyType_GenericNew Can someone explain this to me and how to go about solving it? It seems like I've linked the objects correctly. Thanks.

  • How to check code is compatible with Windows 7

    Hello, We are developing using Visual C# 2008 Express a program based on WPF under Windows XP machines (32 bits). The thing is that we have tried to run the program in two Windows 7 machines, one is 32 bits Windows 7 and the other is 64 bits Windows 7. Under Windows XP everything is fine. In Windows 7 machine, it launches in the 32 bits version altough there is an error when running one functionality (it does not happen in XP). In W7 64 bits it even does not launch. Is this normal? Is not possible to run 32 bit programs under W7 64-bits,even if they execute slower?? How can we check the code is compatible with Windows 7? Thank you very much in advance. Julen.

  • Xcode: How-to bind a key that triggers application to appear (background daemon)

    Hi, I am struggling to create a certain kind of application my Mac, using Xcode and Interface Builder (RubyCocoa). As I am a nuby (but understand some Ruby), I would like to know how I could let my interface appear only if a key is pushed (a toggle), while the program is running in the background. Similar behavior like when I'd press the F4-key to show Dashboard. Really neat would be if the program wouldn't be showing as running in the Dock, but as a funky icon in the top bar, like well "Growl". Thank you so much for your help, comments and feedback!

    I'm making a program for my own use. In this program, I need to set up cron job. The cron job should run every minute (24 hr * 60 mins = 1440 times). Thus, I'll need to set up a cron job with a frequency of 1 minute. I think Google App Engine gives free cron job. But I'm very new to it. I downloaded the java SDK and read the document but understood nothing :( So, I can't use Google App Engine. Is here any other free service like Google app engine which but with easier inferface???   • Eclipse Project Files to .exe or Runnable Jar

    I am able to create the runnable jar using the export feature. However, it does not behave like it does in eclipse. When my program first starts, launch settings are displayed. I can see this. However, when I want to actually launch the meat of the program, it doesn't show up. It seems to not look at all my class files or something. I have tried Far Jar but that didn't work... I have triend JSmooth but still just ran the one frame If I can make this a runnable jar that works or even a .exe, that would be great!

    I am given the following declaration: char inbuff[500], *ptr; int n, bufferlen; Write a program segement to receive a message having 500 bits from the TCP socket sock and store this message in inbuff. My answer is: n = recv( sock, inbuff, strlen( inbuff ), 0 ); However, I am not sure why *ptr is given in the declaration. So, I would like ask, what is the purpose of the pointer in this question??     Hi, I am in a need of running the PHP parser for PHP code inside PHP. I am on Windows, and I have tried system("C:\\Program Files (x86)\\PHP\\php.exe -l \"C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache/htdocs/a.php\"", $output); var_dump($output); without luck. The parameter -l should check for correct PHP syntax, and throw errors if some problems exist. Basically, I want to do something similar to this picture: That is, to be able to detect errors in code.

    Hello, I am using Flash builder 4 (SDK3.5) to create my flex program. I want to deploy this program and load it to a tomcat server. I configure my "flex server" root folder and other parameters in the project properties. The problem is, that i don't know how to make it generic. e.g. my friend's tomcat is installed in other directory on the computer. I know that in eclipse i can run the server and tomcat from the IDE. I can't see how i do it in Flash builder plugin for eclipse 4. There is a server configuration, but there isn't adapter for tomcat. Any ideas? thanks.

    I need to create a function that uses a loop. This function will open a text file and then must be able to skip a variable number of leading random integers. The program must be able to handle any number of leading random integers. Example if the opened file reads this on its first line: 100 120 92 82 38 49 102 and the SKIP_NUMBER variable is assigned 3 the number the function would grab is 82. The function must continue to grab the integers every SKIP_NUMBER until it reaches the end of the file. These integers taken from the txt file are then placed into another text file. I want to know a given file exists in the system before I tell the program to read from it.   • UNIX-style RegExp Replace running extremely slowly under windows. Help?

    I'm trying to run a unix regEXP on every log file in a 1.12 GB directory, then replace the matched pattern with ''. Test run on a 4 meg file is took about 10 minutes, but worked. Obviously something is murdering performance by several orders of magnitude. Find: ^(?!.*155[0-2][0-9]{4}\s.*).*$ -- NOTE: match any line NOT starting 152[0-2]NNNN where in is a number 0-9. Replace with: ''. Is there some justifiable reason for my regExp to take this long to replace matching text, or is the program I am using (this is windows / a program called "grepWin") most likely poorly optimized?   • Want procmail to run a custom python script, everytime a new mail shows up

    I have a pretty usual requirement with procmail but I am unable to get the results somehow. I have procmailrc file with this content: :0 * ^To.*@myhost | /usr/bin/python /work/scripts/privilege_emails_forward.py Wherein my custom python script(privilege_emails_forward.py) will be scanning through the email currently received and do some operations on the mail content. But I am unable to get the script getting executed at the first shot(let alone scanning through the mail content). Is this a correct way of invoking an external program(python) as soon as new mail arrives? And how does my python program(privilege_emails_forward.py) will receive the mail as input? I mean as sys.argv or stdin????

    Hi all, I am using Apache Ant to generate Javadoc for my program which has many projects(or modules). However, I just want to generate Javadoc for Interfaces ONLY and I do not know how to check if a file is a class or interface in Ant. Someone suggested me that I should use and specify a list of files to exclude or include. However, there are hundreds of files in my program and specifying a list of class files to exclude is impossible. Does anyone have some ideas, please?

  • Self-Configuring Classes W/ Command Line Args: Pattern or Anti-Pattern?

    I've got a program where a lot of classes have really complicated configuration requirements. I've adopted the pattern of decentralizing the configuration and allowing each class to take and parse the command line/configuration file arguments in its c'tor and do whatever it needs with them. (These are very coarse-grained classes that are only instantiated a few times, so there is absolutely no performance issue here.) This avoids having to do shotgun surgery to plumb new options I add through all the levels they need to be passed through. It also avoids having to specify each configuration option in multiple places (where it's parsed and where it's used). What are some advantages/disadvantages of this style of programming? It seems to reduce separation of concerns in that every class is now doing configuration stuff, and to make programs less self-documenting because what parameters a class takes becomes less explicit. OTOH, it seems to increase encapsulation in that it makes each class more self-contained because no other part of the program needs to know exactly what configuration parameters a class might need.

  • Exchange 2010 and ESE Backup API

    Exchange 2010 does not support the ESE API for doing backups like it did in 2003 and 2007 according to MSDN. I Quote: "Exchange 2010 no longer supports the ESE streaming APIs for backup and restore of program files or data. Instead, Exchange 2010 supports only VSS-based backups." So my question is, if this is the case, why is the DLL (ESEBCLI2.DLL) still shipped with exchange 2010? I found it under C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Bin. Am I missing something here?

  • Easy framework for OpenGL Shaders in C/C++

    I just wanted to try out some shaders on a flat image. Turns out that writing a C program, which just takes a picture as a texture and applies, let's say a gaussian blur, as a fragment shader on it is not that easy: You have to initialize OpenGL which are like 100 lines of code, then understanding the GLBuffers, etc.. Also to communicate with the windowing system one has to use GLUT which is another framework.. Turns out that Nvidia's Fx composer is nice to play with shaders.. But I still would like to have a simple C or C++ program which just applies a given fragment shader to an image and displays the result. Does anybody have an example or is there a framework?

    I'm trying to convert bmp files in a folder to jpg, then delete the old files. The code works fine, except it can't delete the bmp's.   • Grouping DLL's for use in Executable

    Is there a way to group a bunch of DLL's and still use them at run time (not zipped up). Sorry this question sounds terse and stupid, but I'm not sure what more to ask. I'll explain the situation though: We've had two standalone Windows Applications and now one of our Applications has swelled to such ungainly proportions that the other application cannot run outside of the scope of the first app. We want to maintain some of the encapsulation we had while letting the smaller program in on some of the bigger program's features. There is no problem in running the application, other than we don't want to send out all the 20-30 DLL's that the smaller project has.

  • Python: Count lines and differentiate between them

    I'm using an application that gives a timed output based on how many times something is done in a minute, and I wish to manually take the output (copy paste) and have my program, and I wish to count how many times each minute it is done. An example output is this: 13:48 An event happened. 13:48 Another event happened. 13:49 A new event happened. 13:49 A random event happened. 13:49 An event happened. So, the program would need to understand that 2 things happened at 13:48, and 3 at 13:49. I'm not sure how the information would be stored, but I need to average them after, to determine an average of how often it happens. Sorry for being so complicated!

  • running a batch file from oracle forms 6i using host

    I am trying to run a batch file. the file is located here: C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\getfile.bat I use this in oracle forms 6i: first i assign this path to a variable: tmp_msg := 'C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\getfile.bat' then I use the host command: host( 'cmd /c' || tmp_msg, no_screen); This is exactly as I have it. It doesn't give me an error, but I don't get the result that I'm expecting. I'm actually executing java code in the batch file like so: java -classpath path;addedpackage.jar myClass I hope someone can help me with this. Thank you.
