  Hi, I want to write a simple text editor for iPhone with syntax highlighting support for c,c++. But the problem is, I dont't know how to do this. The first solution I was thinking about, was to go over the text and highlight keywords when the value of the UITextView has changed, but I think that if I got more than 1000lines of code that doesn't work very well. • Am I supposed to store hashes for passwords?

  User System and Passwords: I was looking through MD5 stuff, and I am wondering what is the normal/good practice for passwords. Right now, I think people super encrypt the passwords and store the hashes. If so, how does password checking work? I just have the input password go through the encryption process again and then check the hash with the stored one, correct? This question may contradict the above, but should my salt ever be a randomly generated value?

  What is the difference between linking two tables and then the PK is an FK in the other table, but the FK has not got the primary key option (so it does not have the gold key), and having the PK in one table as a PK in another table? Am I right to think that the second option is for a many-to-many relationship? Thanks

  Sometimes I want a filename instead of what zsh guesses for me. For example, I have a PNG file without a proper .png suffix, which makes zsh think it isn't a picture and won't list it when I type Tab to complete arguments of display. I am wondering if there is a key sequence that completes for a filename wherever the context is, like ^XC for _correct_filename, or how to configure zsh to do the thing?

• What kind of string is this? What can I do in php to read it?

  This is a string (see below, after the dashed line) in a database.inf file for a free program I downloaded that lists some websites. The file is plain text as you can see , but there is a string after it that looks base64 encoded (due to the end chars of ==). But b64_decoding it gives giberish. I wanted to decode it so I could add to the list of sites it had (the program lists a bunch of sites and data about them which I can read in the GUI) and to do that I need to decode this, add to it, and re-encode it. I think the program uses .net since I think the .net library was required on install, but I know nothing of the original source language. I am using php to figure out if there is a simple way to read this. I have tried using unpack, binhex, base_convert, etc as I suspect the file is binary at some level, but I am lost. Nothing illegal, just wanting to know what it is and if I can add a few things to it to make it more useful for me. here is the file - any ideas how to decode and recode this for playing with?   I just made an interesting mistake in my code: Dim endColumn As Integer = startColumn + endColumn - 1 The code was actually supposed to be: Dim endColumn As Integer = startColumn + numColumns - 1 The interesting thing is, I would think that this code should be recursive and loop indefinitely, as the initialization of endColumn sort of calls itself. However, it seems that the code just treats the uninitialized variable as a 0 and so I get startColumn + 0 - 1. What is happening here behind the scenes? When does a variable get assigned a default value?

I have this javascript being called in the Page_Load event this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "Script", sb.ToString(), true); I click the continue button which does a post back but the values are not updated until I refresh the page again which makes me think the js isn't being run until after the page is returned. I'm wondering how to have the values updated when the page is refreshed after the button postback. thanks
