• Minecraft becomes blank after loading

  I have Minecraft installed but whenever I open it, it shows the login screen, so I login, and then when I click login, the window turns black. When I tried to play in in browser, the same thing happened except the window turned whit. Please help guys! I feel like I've tried EVERYTHING!   I would like to know how to leave a fading texture/material trail in udk. For example (I'm not sure if there is a special name for this effect): A character may leave footprints that fade after x number of seconds Or, a tank may leave a tracks trail as in Civilization IV.   I am looking at this: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/create-a-usb-stick-on-ubuntu I need to create a boot disk to test Ubuntu to make sure it will run on a PC (Compaq Mini CQ10-120LA) I was given. I can create the boot disk off of a Mac (in English) or Windows (but Windows is in Spanish and foreign to me). Questions: What format do I choose for the USB stick? (I wish the instructions stated this). What is Dash? (Will I know when I run the installer?) Can I do this from a Mac or Windows computer? Or only from Ubuntu?

• Broken Links in different browsers

  Hi I'm having problems with our website, http://www.accessiblehomehealthcare.com, which is a wordpress 2.7 (version). All of a sudden our RSS links broke on the right side, which has happened before and I fixed it within 5 mins. Now, when I fix it, it doesn't look right in different version of I.E. or Firefox, I have I.E. 8 and Firefox 3.6.15 and it looks good for the most part, but there are a few parts where the links are broken. One browser the links would look ok but go to another page and the links or logos would be broken. Certain parts of the website should be static(identical) to the other pages of the site, but if a link is broken on one page, its perfect on another page. I was wondering was there a secret code for wordpress to keep the sites compatible with all browser versions or is there a bigger issue???? Any help or suggestions will help???

• Search the internet for a term selected in a text editor/viewer

  It seems possible (as I learned from a comment to this question made by user55822) to use Artha in order to search a term on the Internet by using "keybinding". What the aforementioned user says is that "you could search mouse selection anywhere by using an app like Artha, or by keybinding sh -c 'firefox "http://translate.google.com/#en/fr/$(xclip -o)"' (example given translate english into french)" A lot of things are obscure for me here. I could use Artha or keybinding (as alternative), or both? How to do that in each case? and "The command I gave you will open google translate in Firefox with your mouse selection (text highlighted) as a query. Use sh -c 'firefox "https://www.google.com/search?q=$(xclip -o)"' if you want regular Google over Google translate. And obviously, that would work everywhere" I do not know what to do with that formula. What should I do exactly? How to use it? In what application?

• Energy saving with two batteries (Gigabyte S1080 and similar)

  my today question is: how do I manage a tablet (Gigabyte 1080) with an additional battery in Ubuntu ? The control bar shows two separate batteries but starts to suck all the energy from the secundary battery, not leaving any power in it and ruining it (if I don't remove it earlier), and then starts with the primary battery. • Need a non-X terminal for the nvidia driver installation

  When I try to install the nvidia driver for my video card, I receive an error message. ERROR: You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing. For further details, please see the section INSTALLING THE NVIDIA DRIVER in the README available on the Linux driver download page at www.nvidia.com. I wasn't able to find the README on the website but how do I create a terminal that is non-X? I am on 12.04.

• Using .add() on the same widget more than once

  I asked this question on Reddit and was directed here. http://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/vhadl/quickly_dynamic_ui/ Unfortunately I am having the same issue and the problems seems that you can only use .add() on a widget once. So here is my code, self.ui.labels = [] for titles in entries: label = Gtk.Label() self.ui.labels.append(label) self.ui.viewport1.add(self.ui.labels[-1]) self.ui.paned1.show_all() Now, for fun I decided "What would happen if I just manually did..." self.ui.viewport1.add(Gtk.Label()) self.ui.viewport1.add(Gtk.Button()) self.ui.viewport1.add(Gtk.Entry()) For my first code snippet I get this error, Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_viewport_add: assertion gtk_bin_get_child (bin) == NULL' failed The error happens an unknown amount of times because the list entries can vary in length, but for my second code snippet it happens exactly twice. This means that when I viewport1.add() it works the first time, but all adds after that receive the error above. So my question, is there a way in python to use .add() on the same widget more than once?

• Why won't videos on a particular website play under Ubuntu 13.04?

  Very oddly, I cannot watch any videos a TV channel website, for example this one: http://www.kanald.com.tr/GalipDervis/Videolar/ I can see from the frame source that it contains an embedded Adobe Flash video and some Java scripts (all of which don't pose any problems elsewhere). I've tried different web browsers (Chrome/Chromium/Firefox), but it seems I have some sort of video codec problem in my system. I have installed all sorts of gstreamer plugins, codecs, etc. (maybe too many?) to avoid such problems, but strangely I can watch these videos using Linux Mint 15 Live Session on the same machine. I wonder how I can find out why a particular video (like this one) won't work on my system?

• Infinite terrain shadows

  I'm creating an infinite terrain engine, which generates the terrain either with fractals or noise. How can I make dynamic shadows for the sun on this terrain, if I don't know in advance what will be rendered in front of the sun. My terrain: The sun is the only light, it is directional, my terrain is generated on a plane which is positioned before the camera, frustum culled and fits the size of the viewing frustum.   I am a web developer and I want to create clones of the sites I've developed for clients, so that I have an "original copy" on a subdomain of my own website, so that I can showcase my work to new clients. What is the best way to not get my clients original websites penalised for duplicate content? I am planning to have a robots.txt file that disallows all robots, as well as using <link href="http://www.client-canonical-site.com/" rel="canonical" /> in the <head> of the pages. Is that sufficient? Should I use rel=nofollow on all the links as well?

  I was looking for a PHP form generator this morning and ran across "Instant Form Pro" by Joel Comm (http://www.instantformpro.com). It looks like it offers what I'm looking for (easy to use quick form generator based on PHP and MySQL that's self-hosted with no other fees), but the site smacks of "scam." It's being pitched as a way to generate surveys to increase your business, make lots more money, etc. Is this thing worth the $97 or is there an open source alternative that might be... safer?

  I'm having some trouble using the easing equations suggested by Robert Penner for ActionScript (http://www.robertpenner.com/easing/, and a Flash demo here) in my C# XNA game. Firstly, what is the definition of the following variables passed in as arguments to each equation? float t, float b, float c, float d I'm currently calculating the new X position of a sprite in the Update() loop, however even for the linear tween equation I'm getting some odd results. I'm using the following values: float t = gameTime.TotalGameTime.TotalMilliseconds; float d = 8000f; float b = x.Position.X; float c = (ScreenManager.Game.GraphicsDevice.Viewport.Width >> 1) - (x.Position.X + x.frameSize.X / 2); And this equation for linear easing: float val = c*t/d + b;

Do you know of any statistics about the frequency of exceptions (checked and unchecked) thrown at runtime in typical Java applications? for example: NullPointerException: 25% of all exceptions ClassCastException: 15% of all exceptions etc. 2. Which are the most frequent exceptions according to your own experiences? 3. Would you agree that the NullPointerException is generally the most often thrown exception? I am asking this question in the context of the compiler development of the PPL programming language (www.practical-programming.org). The goal is to auto-detect a maximum of frequent exceptions at compile-time. For example, detecting all potential NullPointerExceptions at compile-time leads to null-safe software which is more reliable.

• Uploading Files Using ASP.NET Web Forms, Generic Handler and jQuery

  In order to upload files from the client machine to the server ASP.NET developers use FileUpload server control. The FileUpload server control essentially renders an INPUT element with its type set to file and allows you to select one or more files. The actual upload operation is performed only when the form is posted to the server. Instead of making a full page postback you can use jQuery to make an Ajax call to the server and POST the selected files to a generic handler (.ashx). The generic handler can then save the files to a specified folder. • Web Platform Installer issues deploying Azure SDK 1.4 on refreshed systems.

  Recently I have been doing quite a bit of testing on different means to deploy the Azure SDKs and such. After a very successful couple of systems, I started running into issues last night. Here is the problem, if I go to the Windows Azure Website, and go to Develop, then click on the SDK and Tools, then Get Tools & SDK, it launches the Web Platform Installer.  All seems well at that point, except it will go through the initial process, will find the SDK files for 1.4, but since the tools for Visual Studio are still 1.3, the location throws back a 404, which causes the Installer to fail.  NOTE:If you already had SDK 1.3 and the tools in place, it will go through. • How can I make sure my website will be available during a presentation?

  I have an online presentation to do next week and I have it all ready to go. The website is HTML and CSS only (no DB), and currently resides on my shared hosting account. Now, although my shared hosting is (relatively) reliable, I have noticed that recently they have been making some changes and my website has been unavailable at times. I don't want this to happen to me on the morning of my presentation, so I am asking what is the best way to prepare for such a thing? My domain is www.presentation.mydomain.com and I would like to keep this if possible (even if issues arise). I have been thinking of a few alternatives: Host my site on two different domains or servers (but what about the domain name?) Have a portable XAMPP version on a USB stick (again, domain name?) Possible failover site/location Update: The presentation will be carried out on their laptop, not mine. So I am unable to install any software.
