  • Looking for regex to extract email addresses from /etc/passwd

    Most of my users have email addresses associated with their profile in /etc/passwd. They are always in the 5th field, which I can grab, but they appear at different places within a comma-separated list in the 5th field. Can somebody give me a regex to grab just the email address (delimeted by commas) from a line in this file? (I will be using grep and sed from a bash script) Sample lines from file: user1:x:1147:5005:User One,Department,,,[email protected]:/home/directory:/bin/bash user2:x:1148:5002:User Two,Department2,[email protected],:/home/directory:/bin/bash

  • Returning large collections from WCF Serivce

    I'm trying to determine the best approach for building a WCF Service, and the area I'm struggling with most is returning lists of objects. The built-in maxMessageSize of 64k seems pretty high, and I really don't want to bump it up (quick googling finds 100s of places bumping the maxMessageSize up to multi-gigabyte range which seems foolish). But, when I'm returning a collection of objects (~150 items) I am exceeding the default 64k. I'm almost to the point of returning my own class which inherits IEnumerable and has properties for hasNext, hasPrevious and PageSize so that I can implement paging on the client side -- this seems like alot of code. The other option is to jackup the maxMessageSize and hope for the best, but that feels wrong. All other aspects of my service are working great, its just returning large collectiosn where I'm having issues. For background, there are two types of consumers of this service, UI applications which will be primarly web and/or wpf applications, and data processing applications, .NET console apps, and maybe some other non-UI apps. For the UI applications, I would like to keep them responsive and keep the messageSize low, on the console apps it doesn't matter as much as they are just pulling data down to do processing and push it back up to the service.

  • PHP function returns ZERO.

    Hi guys, I'm having trouble with this PHP function. It keeps returning zero, but I know the SQL statement works because I've queried it myself. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? The last line makes no sense to me...I'm editing this code that someone else wrote. This function should return a number in the hundreds, assuming the date is in March.     I'm in the middle of a Silverlight application and I have a function which needs to call a webservice and using the result complete the rest of the function. My issue is that I would have normally done a synchronous web service call got the result and using that carried on with the function. As Silverlight doesn't support synchronous web service calls without additional custom classes to mimic it, I figure it would be best to go with the flow of async rather than fight it. So my question relates around whats the best design pattern for working with async calls in program flow. In the following example I want to use the myFunction TypeId parameter depending on the return value of the web service call. But I don't want to call the web service until this function is called.     Hi All, I have an ASP.NET application which requires output caching. I need to invalidate the cached items when the data returned from a web service changes, so a simple duration is not good enough. I have been doing a bit of reading about cache dependencies and think I have the right idea. It looks like I will need to create a cache dependency to my web service. To associate the page output with this dependency I think I should use the following method: Response.AddCacheItemDependency(cacheKey); The thing I am struggling with is what I should add to the cache? The dependency my page has is to a single value returned by the web service. My current thinking is that I should create a Custom Cache Dependency via subclassing CacheDependency, and store the current value in the cache. I can then use Response.AddCacheItemDependency to form the dependency. I can then periodically check the value and for a NotifyDependencyChange in order to invalidate my cached HTTP response. The problem is, I need to ensure that the cache is flushed immediately, so a periodic check is not good enough. How can I ensure that my dependant object in the cache which represents the value returned by the web service is re-evaluated before the HTTP response is fetched from the cache? Regards, Colin E.

    Hi. I'm trying to add some extended error codes to the event log but I get the following error. The description for Event ID ( 109 ) in Source ( PumpServer ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: The event log file is corrupt.. The message file looks like this and I added the one on the end:- <---snip---> MessageId= SymbolicName=EVMSG_BADREQUEST Language=English The service received an unsupported request. . MessageId= SymbolicName=EVMSG_DEBUG Language=English %1 . MessageId= SymbolicName=EVMSG_STOPPED Language=English The service was stopped. .   • .Net assembly references being lost as soon as project is compiled

    I have a windows service project, one of many C# projects in a solution file. I add a reference to my "Data_objects" class library for my windows service. this is added to the references no problem. all the classes become available and I can begin to code. As soon a I compile the windows service it says "The type or namespace name 'Data_Objects' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)" yet in the solution explorer the reference is fine, no yellow exclamation mark. I have to remove and add it again for it to pick it up, but then as soon as I compile it loses it. This reference works fine in my two other web application projects. what the hell is going on !! Truegilly Update there are no naming conflicts the only bit of code I have is a using statement - eg using Data_Objects.DataContext; also this only happens with a windows service project, i just created a new web app project and it works fine.

  • What are the most time consuming checks performed by .NET when executing a managed appplication?

    I've developed a .NET based Windows service that uses part managed (C#) and unmanaged code (C/C++ libraries). In some domain environments (e.g. Win 2k3 32bit server inside domain abc.com) sometimes the service takes more than 30 seconds to start (especially on OS restart), thus failing to start the service. I suspect that it has something to do with enterprise level security but I do not know for sure. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa720255%28VS.71%29.aspx I've tried the following without success: - delay loading references by moving the using directives as far as possible from the servicebase implementation (especially the xml namespace - know to cause delays in loading) - delay loading and configuring log4net - precompiling the code by using ngen - delaying the start of the worker thread - add/remove manifest + decencies set inside - sign/unsign the binaries - use the configuration settings (there are a lot of settings and the scope level for all is set to application ) as later as possible - add all dependencies to GAC I didn't tried yet to add security demands for the class that has the Main method implemented. I didn't tries to implement my own configuration loader because after inspecting the autogenerated code, I've noticed that the setting class is a singletone and it gets its instance on call. By completely removing the log4net dependency it worked, but this is not an option. When the network card is disabled the service starts immediately. Any suggestions/comments/solution you have would be most welcomed.
