  So for a project for school I had to install the DPJ extension to the Java language. I downloaded and unpacked a tarball containing the files, and then was told to run the following: setenv DPJ_ROOT ${Home}/dpjbin setenv PATH ${PATH}:${DPJ_ROOT}/Implementation/bin How do I do these commands using bash? I know I have to open up the /etc/profile file and add 2 lines (or for the PATH one do I just append something to the top line of the file after a colon?). Any help in how to do this would be appreciated. If it helps I run Ubuntu 14.04 on Virtualbox (and have little to no experience)

  I am trying to set-up a simple SVN workflow at home. I am new to subversion (and programming) so I have been reading the official PDF documentations but still not sure about how to set-up my repository. I am working mainly with python, bash and rsl (Renderman Shading Language) So I already have a /dev structure on my disk as this: http://imageshack.us/f/708/devstructure.png/ And I have a /site structure that links to my /dev folder: http://imageshack.us/f/651/sitestructure.png/ So obviously starting to use SVN will change this approach that I already have in place. The question is when I am setting-up my SVN repository for the work I do in my /dev folder: Will I set-up a separate repository for each different programming platform? and Where exactly I should be placing my repository? • Video player with good subtitle rendering

  Is there any way to improve the subtitle rendering capabilities of Totem? The subtitles positioning seems to be hard-coded in it and even though the style is user-customizable, it does not confirm to the formatting in subtitle data. In some scenes where writings appear, the subtitles are supposed to appear next to those along with what is being said at that moment. However, on those scenes the translations of text onscreen appears on the default subtitle area with nothing about the things being said. The correct rendering are according to the open-source Windows video player, Media Player Classic - Home Cinema. There are no Linux port as far as I'm aware. If VLC's subtitle support is the same as in Windows, it won't work for me, period. Please suggest anyway to improve subtitle rendering in Totem, other video players, or a way to port MPC-HC.

• Saving an interface instance into a Bundle

  All I've have an interface that allows me to switch between different scenes in my Android game. When the home key is pressed, I am saving all of my states (score, sprite positions etc) into a Bundle. When re-launching, I am restoring all my states and all is OK - however, I can't figure out how to save my 'Scene', thus when I return, it always starts at the default screen which is the 'Main Menu'. How would I go about saving my 'Scene' (into a Bundle)? • I can't get suspend, hibernate and shutdown to work in Ubuntu 12.04

  I recently built a computer with these specs: Asus Motherboard, Intel i3 3.3 GHz dual processor, 8 GB of RAM. I installed 12.04 on a brand new hard drive. I partitioned the hard drive between root, home and swap like I have often read how to do. I cannot get this machine to properly shutdown. I have to hold the power button down now. Although, for the first few days it properly shutdown. I also cannot get the system to hibernate or suspend properly. I have read tons on this and watched many YouTube tutorials on how to fix both, but the computer never wakes up after suspend or hibernate. It just stays on a black screen. Can anyone help? I love 12.04 so far, but these setbacks are making me worried about stability and power management issues. Also, I wonder if it's really bad for the hard drive to force the CPU to shutdown.

• Windows Server - share files without access for administrator

  We have a MS Windows Server 2008 R8 based server that is administrated by our IT department. We would like to achieve two things simultaneously: A folder on the server, containing several thousand files (new files added frequently) that is accessible to some ActiveDirectory users (e.g. board of directors) but is not accessible by IT department employees IT department employees still maintain rights to administrate the server, including installing new software and services We already checked some solutions: Using NTFS access rights. Unfortunately IT (members of "Administrators" group) can set themselves as new owners of the files and change the permissions so that they gain access to the files. Enabling EFS. Unfortunately even if you do not allow IT to access files, they still can disable EFS completely because they have administrative rights. Moreover as far as I know you have to manually add permissions for all users but the owner for each new file - very inconvenient. Creating a new role for the IT department that has all the privileges apart from taking ownership of files. Unfortunately if you're not a member of the Administrators group, you cannot install new software, no matter what privileges you add to the role. TrueCrypt - nice free encryption software, but with poor sharing capabilities. You can either mount an encryption container on the server (and then IT has access to its contents) or you mount them locally but only one user can mount it for writing. AxCrypt - free encryption software that enables file-by-file encryption on the server. There are some disadvantages though - you have to manually encrypt each new file added. The files have their extensions changes. You can only set one password for all files (so all users have to know this one password). Any other ideas? Our budget is limited so enterprise-class software from Symantec or PGP would probably be not an option.

• SOA Suite 11g: Unable to start domain (Error occurred during initialization of VM)

  If you have recently installed SOA Suite, created a domain and then tried to start it only to find it fails with the error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. the solution is to edit the file <domain home>\bin\setSOADomainEnv.cmd/sh (depending on your platform) and modify the line: set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx1024m to something like: set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx768m Save the file and then try to start your domain again. • Cant mount cryptswap1 ?

  From the reading I've done, it seems it's having issues mounting the encrypted files. The guys here: could not mount /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 Seem to be suggesting how to fix it, but I am new to Linux and have NO idea how to do any of that. Can anyone walk me through how to edit that file? Or should I just reinstal? Is there a way to reinstall and keep my programs? • Constructive criticism for my bounce rate being so high [closed]

  The bounce rate on my website's product pages is 80%, which is terrible. Could you offer any opinions on whether you consider the user experience to be bad, and how I could possibly improve it? Other pages, such as the home and category pages, have acceptable bounce rates, but the vast majority of my traffic lands on the product pages. I already tried removing some Google ads for a couple of days, but this didn't seem to help at all. I'm working on doing A/B testing at the moment. (It's tricky, as the site is based on a CMS - I custom coded the [Joomla] component, so hopefully I can get this testing working.)

• What tool do you use to organise your tasks?

  Hi, I've been a web developer for four years now and I've yet to come across a nice piece of software that allows me to manage my day to day tasks well. In theory, I should be able to just pull up a textfile and write: write test scripts check code into svn remember to go home But obviously this isnt very usable. I've tried stuff like Ta-da List but it feels quite limited. JIRA is great for bug tracking but what if I have to remember to go to the bank at 2pm. Is there anything piece of software out there that helps organise programmers? I'm really interested in hearing what you guys have to say on this one. Thanks.

• When attempting to install ubuntu 12.04 from CD, I am stuck on black streen with "loading bootlogo..."

  I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 to my desktop and burned to a CD using Infra Recorder and instructions on ubuntu website. Restarted PC to boot from CD receive black screen with "Loading bootlogo..." then nothing happens and I have to restart with windows. The CD seems to be correct. • How do I push code to github on shutdown?

  I switch between working at home and the office, and sometimes, like today, I forget to run a git commit/push. (I find it easy to ignore the command line since I'm still kind of a beginner, there.) How can I make it so that when I shut down my Ubuntu OS, it will follow this process: Check my local code against the github server, executing the rest of this script only if I've made newer changes. Add all new files. Make commits with a basic default comment. Push all changed code to origin master. If anyone knows how to do this, it would be a major assist. Also, anyone know how to do it for Mac OSX? :D

• How to create a shared folder using command line on a server

  After following the tutorial here I ran into a problem. Here is what I did. On my server I installed nfs-kernel-server and edited the /etc/exports file to include the folder I want to share: /var *(rw,sync) On my client machine I edited my fstab file to include share: //128.251.xxx.xxx/var/ ~/uslonsweb003 nfs #username=[username],password=[password], 0 0 Entered command: sudo mount -a which gives this error: mount.nfs: remote share not in 'host:dir' format Where did I go wrong with this setup? Also if there is a better way (using command line) to setup a folder share on an Ubuntu 10.10 server that will be accessed by other linux and windows machines please let me know. UPDATE: The mapped drive is now not letting me create,edit,delete files or folders (readonly access) my configuration is as follows: client fstab file: 128.251.xxx.xxx:/var /home/coreyf/uslonsweb003 nfs rw,hard,intr, 0 0 server exports file: /var *(rw,no_root_squash,sync,no_subtree_check) UPDATE 2: Using Allans solution my drive mounted correctly however after putting rw,intr as my additional parameters I cannot create, edit and delete folders/files.

• How can I force the (re)discovery of PulseAudio network sound devices?

  I'm using the PulseAudio feature of network sound devices (not Multicast/RTP) to play sound from my netbook on the audio equipment connected to the HTPC when at home. This creates a virtual sound device that I can then use instead of the physical built-in one. Most of the time this works just fine. Sometimes however, the virtual sound device just doesn't appear. Disconnecting from and reconnecting to the network helps sometimes but not always and it's annoying and potentially bad for existing TCP connections. So my question basically is: Is there some way to tell PulseAudio "Hey, just look again if you really can't find a network sound device."? Edit: Unloading and reloading the module-zeroconf-discover with pacmd does not help either and it doesn't appear to be an avahi problem per se since avahi-browse -t --all | grep PulseAudio shows lots of right-looking stuff, even when the devices aren't listed in pavucontrol or pacmd list-sinks. Edit 2: I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 on both boxes for all the difference it might make.

• Remote Desktop Connection issues

  I have a server at a remote site, the sites are connected to each other a site-to-site VPN connection using Cisco ASA 5510 firewalls. One end is managed by me, the other managed by the remote location's IT, between the 2 of us is another party who manage and route the connections. Remote desktop has been working fine with no problems then recently I noticed it was working for ONE server over the VPN which it previously had done. All the routes seem fine and I can still ping the remote server and even download files from an FTP site on the remote server.... so the VPN seems fine. Remote Desktop works fine to the remote server within the remote location but not over the VPN. I don't understand why it's stopped working, I originally thought it was a rule in place by the other party but they stress it's not them. The only thing that has changed on the server initiating the RDP connection is that it now runs file services sharing a folder. The source server (remote location) may or may not have had updates applied. Any idea's?

Everything is working wonderfully except I cannot access the SAMBA drive with the new machine. I know that SAMBA is accessible as an older WinXP machine can access it. • Folder redirection GPO doesn't seem to be working

  I've been trying to set up roaming profiles and folder redirection, but have hit a bit of a snag with the latter. This is exactly what I've done so far: (I have OU permissions and GPO permissions over my division's OU.) Created a group called Roaming-Users in the OU 'Groups' Added a single user (testuser) to the group Using the Group Policy Management tool (via RSAT on Windows 7) I right-clicked on the Groups OU and selected 'Create a GPO in this domain, and Link it here' Added my 'Roaming-Users' group to the Security Filtering section of the policy. Added the Folder Redirection option, specifically for Documents. It is set to redirect to: \myserver\Homes$\%USERNAME%\Documents (Homes$ exists and is sharing-enabled). Right-clicked on the policy under the Groups OU and checked Enforced. Logged into a machine as testuser successfully. Created a simple text file, saved some gibberish, logged off. Remoted into the server with Homes$ on it, noticed that the directory Homes$\testuser was created, but was empty. No text file to be found. From what I've read, I did everything I aught to...but I can't quite figure out the issue. I had no errors when I logged off about syncing issues (offline files is enabled) or anything, so I can only imagine my file should have ended up up on the share. Any ideas? EDIT: Using gpresult /R, I confirmed the user is in fact part of the Roaming-Users group, but does not have the policy applied, if that helps. EDIT 2: Apparently you can't apply GPOs to groups...so I applied to users and used the same security filter to limit it to my test user. Nothing happens as far as redirection goes, but I now have the following error in the event log: Folder redirection policy application has been delayed until the next logon because the group policy logon optimization is in effect
