    I'm developing a site, part of which lists training courses with dates and prices. Every year the dates and prices change, which would mean loads of manual code editing to update the pages. What I'd like to do is have a database containing the relevant information, which the course pages then reference, so we can just update the database rather than the HTML. My experience lies in static design - so, what is a simple way to achieve this?

    Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out how to generate tileable fractals in code (for game maps, but that's irrelevant) I've been trying to modify the Solid Noise plug-in shipped with GIMP (with my extremely limited understanding of how the code works) but I cant get mine to work correctly. My modified code so far (Java) GIMP's solid noise module that I'm basing my code off of (C) Here is what I'm trying to achieve but This is what I'm getting So if anybody can see what I've done wrong, or has a suggestion how I could go about doing it differently, I'd greatly appreciate it.     In ASP.NET I'd like to create a link which points to a specific Uri and send this link in an email to a user, for instance something like http://www.BlaBla.com/CustomerPortal/Order/9876. I can create the second part of the Uri /CustomerPortal/Order/9876 dynamically in code-behind. My question is: How can I create the base Uri http://www.BlaBla.com without hardcoding it in my application? Basically I want to have something like: http://localhost:1234/CustomerPortal/Order/9876 (on my development machine) http://testserver/CustomerPortal/Order/9876 (on an internal test server) http://www.BlaBla.com/CustomerPortal/Order/9876 (on the production server) So is there a way to ask the server where the application is running: "Please tell me the base Uri of the application" ?     Somehow, I removed the Downloads bookmark in the Sidebar under "Computer". Is there any way I can make a new one? Possibly with the same icon? I still have my Downloads directory. I just don't have the bookmark under "Computer" anymore, and it has the ordinary folder icon. I know it's not the most significant question, but it's a question nonetheless. Also, I'm not sure, but it may be important to note that I'm using unity 2d.

    Hi, Is that possible to use Blender to create Cooliris-like 3D wall image viewer application under Linux? I don't see many people use Blender (BGE) to create desktop application, so I am wondering if this is possible. People normally use Blender for modeling/movie and game engine. I can not find a good way to create 3D application in Linux so far. I was thinking about pyQT+opengl. But I feel that is hard to do. No robust and easy-to-use qt+opengl toolkit available from my research. I know a little bit of Blender, that's why I am asking if Blender is an alternative solution. (python is preferred) The image viewer doesn't have to be windowed. It can be full screen, like a game?. I would like to add many cool effects into this application.     I'm buiding an HTML/jQuery site where almost all the content comes from remote JSON data. I'm having trouble coming up with a good way to store and access the data in the future (scope-wise). Currently, I've written a jQuery plugin that gets the JSONP data when the site loads. But I have other functions and jQuery plugins that need to access this data. Where should this data be stored so other functions and plugins can access it? Should it be a global variable? If it matters, this site will only run on the iPad and the back-end of the site is in Rails.

More information in this previous question. It is working in my computer but some people just see a "cannot found error." What could be the reason? EDIT: I checked on my mobile phone and it works.

    My site, www.example.com has a MyBB forum installation, and has many users constantly checking it out. I would like to make a major change to it - basically, I want to delete everything it has and start clean. However, this rebuilding process may take me hours since I need to do a lot of things. Thus, whenever an user tries to enter any part of my site (www.example.com, www.example.com/blog etc), the user will always be redirected to www.example.com/underconstruction so they can see a nice HTML site explaining the current situation. But not only that - while I am configuring my site, I need to visit it myself to make sure things do work live. So basically, it has to redirect everyone who isn't me. Is that possible in any way? I am using GoDaddy hosting.

    I am trying to set up UbuntuOne on a new computer and after I enter the email and password, it asks for the keyring 'default'. I don't know what it is and I never set it. Makes it difficult to enter so it seems to be a counterproductive security default. I understand that if autologin is set the keyring is called. I tried setting the main user to need a password but if I reboot it doesn't ask for the password so it sort of autoboots still. So How do I set the keyring default password? If I can't set it I can't install UbuntOne

    I am developing a 2d android strategy game, it runs on SurfaceView, so I can't(or can I?) use LibGdx's particle system.   • GUI won't load, but the desktop background loads. Can't access the terminal

    Having trouble with the Ubuntu GUI. I can log in just fine (see this)... everything looks normal there. But as soon as I put in my password, I get this. I tried a few different troubleshooting keyboard commands (ctrl+alt+t, crtl+alt+delete), and only the latter worked. I can interact with that window just fine, except I am unable to resize or move it. The first time I logged in, I got a dialog box that said, "Ubuntu has experienced an internal error. Send error report?" Doesn't say anything now. Yes I tried restarting it. Thanks a bunch, Michael EDIT: Trying to start a guest session leads to the same problem.

  • Why can't I access hw:1,0 until gstreamer-properties is run once?

    Not necessarily an Ubuntu-specific question but I wasn't sure where else to ask. I have an AverMedia DVD EZMaker 7 which plugs into USB and works well on Ubuntu 12.04. I downloaded and installed the official drivers without error. However, when I try: gst-launch alsasrc device="hw:1,0" ! alsasink device="hw:0,0" it tells me: Setting pipeline to PAUSED ... Pipeline is live and does not need PREROLL ... Setting pipeline to PLAYING ... New clock: GstAudioSrcClock which is the normal output, however there is no audible sound. Trying the command again doesn't help. If I run gstreamer-properties and close it right away (don't need to touch any controls), THEN the gst-launch command works. If I unplug the device and plug it back in or restart the computer, I have to run gstreamer-properties again. What is gstreamer-properties doing that enables the audio?

    I have a navigation list I placed inside of a , I am attempting to get an image that appears on both sides of a link when you hover. Basically a an arrow on each side of the link. I have managed to get the effect I am looking for with: <ul> <li style=""> <a href="#">Services</a> </li> <li> <a href="#">About</a> </li> <li> <a href="#">Media</a> </li> <li> <a href="#">FAQ</a> </li> <li> <a href="#">Portfolio</a> </li> <li> <a href="#">Contact</a> </li> </ul> .nav ul{ list-style:none; text-align:center; } .nav li:hover a:before, .nav li:hover a:after { content:url(../images/nav_bullet.png); } The end result will look like the following but with the list centered: link >> Hovered Link << link However I am not sure if that is the best way of going about it, and the image is too close to the text. I tried placing a margin and padding but that didn't work. To top of it off, the image is not vertically centered with the link text. Anyone know of a proper way to do this as I am just going by trial and error? Thank you in advance!

    I want to patch on Trac package. I know how to patch and rebuild the package, but there are some things I don't understand very well. My patch is something dangerous and not likely to commit back to the community. So, let me just say, it's a very private patch. But, I want my patch keep working when the Ubuntu packages upgrade. (Should I apt-get source trac and move my patch to the new version of source directory each time the Trac upgrades?) I see there is a patch/ directory (many using quilt I guess) in debian/, but I don't know how to use it? Will debuild automatic apply all patches in the patch/ directory? And what about dpkg-buildpackage? Is there some environ variables to control the selection of patches to apply?

    Question: I currently store ASP.net application data in XML files. Now the problem is I have asynchronous operations, which means I ran into the problem of simultanous write access on a XML file... Now, I'm considering moving to an embedded database to solve the issue. I'm currently considering SQlite and embeddable Firebird. I'm not sure however if SQlite or Firebird can handle multiple concurrent write access. And I certainly don't want the same problem again. Anybody knows ? SQlite certainly is better known, but which one is better - SQlite or Firebird ? I tend to say Firebird, but I don't really know. No MS-Access or MS-SQL-express recommodations please, I'm a sane person.

I'm testing by running: curl -Iv -i --request "OPTIONS" -H "Origin: http://example.com" http://staging.example.com/ Am I missing something obvious? I've tried the "if" with and without quotes, etc. This is nginx 1.2.9.
