  • Socket : can an asynchronous Receive returns without reading all the bytes I asked for?

    Hi; I was reading an article on Vadym Stetsiak's blog about how to transfer variable length messages with async sockets (url: http://vadmyst.blogspot.com/2008/03/part-2-how-to-transfer-fixed-sized-data.html). He says : What to expect when multiple messages arrive at the server? While dealing with multiple messages one has to remember that receive operation can return arbitrary number of bytes being read from the net. Typically that size is from 0 to specified buffer length in the Receive or BeginReceive methods. So, even if I tell BeginReceive to read 100 bytes, it may read less than that and returns??? I am developing a network-enabled software (TCP/IP), and I always receive the same exact number of bytes I asked for. I don't even understand the logic : why would Receive completes asynchronously if it didn't get every byte I asked for ... just keep waiting. Maybe it has something to do with IP vs TCP?     I'm going to index a BDB with keys that look a lot like directory paths ('/foo/bar', '/foo/baz', etc, with levels of slashes generally < 10). Does anybody have any experience with using a Btree prefix comparison routine[1] for this? Are the savings worthwhile? Any references to experience papers on this subject?   • Fast, lightweight XML parser

    I have a specific format XML document that I will get pushed. This document will always be the same type so it's very strict. I need to parse this so that I can convert it into JSON (well, a slightly bastardized version so someone else can use it with DOJO). My question is, shall I use a very fast lightweight (no need for SAX, etc.) XML parser (any ideas?) or write my own, basically converting into a StringBuffer and spinning through the array? Basically, under the covers I assume all HTML parsers will spin thru the string (or memory buffer) and parse, producing output on the way through.   • How do you use vim's quickfix feature?

    I'm a pretty new Vim user and I've found that its learning curve is quite steep (at least for me). I just installed this vim script for JavaScriptLint error checking, which shows errors in vim's quickfix window once I save a buffer. However, I don't know what to do next.. How do I 'scroll' through all the errors? How do I close the quickfix 'window'? How do I get it to check for errors after I've made changes to my code? I've looked at the vim quickfix docs but the amount of commands are overwhelming and I can't seem to find what I want. Any help would be appreciated. A side question: is there any way to have javascriptlint check for js errors for code residing in a .html file? Thanks!

  • How to use ctrl-i for an emacs shortcut without breaking tabs

    I want to redefine the emacs keyboard shortcut control-i to be "MOVE CURSOR UP" To do this, I added the following line to my .emacs file: (global-set-key (kbd "C-i") 'previous-line) What I then discovered is that the tab key, by default, does whatever is bound to control-i, which is obviously not what I want. So, to restore normal tab behavior, I added this to my .emacs file (global-set-key (kbd "<tab>") 'indent-for-tab-command) This mostly works. BUT, tab no longer works for auto-completing commands in the mini buffer. How can I fix that? Or is there a better way of going about this? Thanks.

  • Is it possible to call a user-space callback function from kernel space in Linux (ioctl)?

    Is it possible to expand the ioctl interface in Linux so that the user-space application can send a pointer to a function to the kernel space driver? I'm in particular thinking of ways to handle the stream in user-controllable way but doing it in the kernel. Those operations could be attached to the kernel module but this would make development a lot easier as I wouldn't need to mess with the kernel during development. More specifically, this would be the process: Data is read by the driver to a buffer. Data is handled by these user-defined functions in place. Some more handling is done, possibly with some HW blocks. Data is used by a user-space application.

I need to setup a webViewClient to the PhoneGap webView in order to capture the URL of a page finished and to work with that.   • Drawing individual pixels with iphone sdk.

    Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to make a powder toy style game on the iPhone. My problem is how to draw pixels to the screen. From what I've read, OpenGL is better for games as it is faster/hardware accelerated, but there is no method to draw pixels directly to the screen. Apparently drawing pixels to an off-screen frame buffer is the way to go, but how do I then pass this to OpenGL? Do I use a texture? (this is assuming I have no previous knowledge of iPhone graphics programming). Thanks!

    Let say that given the following signature in LegacyLib.dll: int Login(SysInst *inst, char username[8], char password[6]); The simple way to marshal this function in C# would be: [DllImport("LegacyLib.dll", CharSet=CharSet.Ansi)] public static extern int Login(ref SysInst inst, string username, string password); The problem of doing it in a such a naive way is that the managed string we passed into the username or password parameter could be longer than the array bounds and this could potentially cause a buffer overrun in LegacyLib.dll. Is there a better way which overcomes this problem? i.e. is there any quick [MarshalAs(…)] magic that I could use to counter that?

That would look stupid. When adding multiple counters, only one of the counters would count. When removing the queue function, both counters would work, but as you can imagine, the delay of the text() would be gone (as it isnt fx-category). It is probably a bit tricky to make out how I can have multiple counters, and still delay the text()-function by 100ms, but I was hoping there is somebody here with spare brain capacity for these things ;) You can see a (NSFW) problem demo here: Just look underneath the sharing icons and you will notice that the text changes WHILE the objects fade out. Looking for some help to sove this problem. I would like to call the text() function once the text has faded to opacity 0, then fade in once the text() has executed. Thank you for your time.

    I have a single table called "Indexes", it contains one nvarchar and three ntext columns (all Full Text Indexes). Index is up to date. CONTAINSTABLE(Indexes, *), 'test', 5) //5 results No matter what I change the above keyword too, it only returns the first 3-5 results. It should roughly return 90-120 results, for the above query. SELECT count(*) FROM Indexes WHERE [Description] like '%test%' //122 results How would I start to troubleshoot this problem?

    Hi there, I have a scenario where I need a desktop console app to communicate with a Windows Azure Queue... the most important thing is that the message is received by the server eventually. Also, the desktop app may be disconnected from the Internet sometimes. In the traditional WCF+MSMQ approach you'd be able to send a message which would be cached in MSMQ until MSMQ could reach the Server's MSMQ and send the message. What's the equivalent when Windows Azure is the server-side? Is it possible for the same approach to be used, where MSMQ just communicates with a Windows Azure Queue rather than an MSMQ on a Windows Server? Maybe Windows Azure Queue is the wrong approach? I have heard about something called message buffer, but don't know what this is (yet!). thanks for your help Kris

Assume I have an data structure like below: /-----------------------------------------------------\ | my_header | PAYLOAD | \-----------------------------------------------------/ | | \ / \ / not encrypted encrypted I think the proper algorithm would be like this : SEND: build my_header with my own header. encrypt PAYLOAD with encryption function attach my_header and PAYLOAD (encrypted) to one buffer send it using common POSIX function just like send or sendto RECV: using common POSIX function just like recv or recvfrom. extract my_header and PAYLOAD(encrypted) decrypt PAYLOAD with decryption function at last i got my_header and PAYLOAD(decrypted). How is your approach if you face a problem like above. Since openssl encrypt all of data that is sent to SSL_write function (CMIIW). Thanks

    I know there are LOT of questions like that but I can't find one specific to my situation. I have 4x4 matrices implemented as NIO float buffers (These matrices are used for OpenGL). Now I want to implement a multiply method which multiplies Matrix A with Matrix B and stores the result in Matrix C. So the code may look like this: class Matrix4f { private FloatBuffer buffer = FloatBuffer.allocate(16); public Matrix4f multiply(Matrix4f matrix2, Matrix4f result) { {{{result = this * matrix2}}} <-- I need this code return result; } } What is the fastest possible code to do this multiplication? Some OpenGL implementations (Like the OpenGL ES stuff in Android) provide native code for this but others doesn't. So I want to provide a generic multiplication method for these implementations.
