• What's a good way to store a series of interconnected pipe and tank objects?

  I am working on a puzzle game with a 6 by 6 grid of storage tanks that are connected to up to 4 tanks adjacent to them via pipes. The gameplay is concerned with combining what's in a tank with an adjacent tank via the pipe than interconnects them. Right now I store the tanks in a 6x6 array, vertical pipes in a 5x6 array, and horizontal pipes in a 6x5 array. Each tank has a reference to the object that contains both tanks and pipes and when a pipe needs to be animated filling with liquid, the selected tank just calls a method on the container object telling it to animate the pipes it is connected to (subtract 1 from row or column to find connected pipes). This feels like the wrong way of doing it, as I've also considered just giving each tank references to the pipes connected to it to access directly.

• How do I duplicate a Box2d simulation, mid-simulation?

  I want to serialize the state mid-game, send it over the network to an identical computer (same CPU, same OS, same binary), load it there, and have the two games run in tandem doing the exact same simulation, without one of them drifting off and going haywire. In short: I want pop-in, pop-out networking support on my HIGHLY physics-intensive game, where sending object coordinates every few seconds is impossible, due to having thousands of objects, and many clients. I tried this with Box2D, and saving an object's location/velocity/etc wasn't enough... there's internal state that's not accessible through any public methods. My current workaround is to force EVERY client to save its entire worldstate and reload it from scratch, whenever a new player connects... but this is obviously bad practice, because it hangs the game for everyone whenever someone new connects. However, it works, with zero desynchronization. So, anyone know of any other techniques that can help me? Or should I just kiss my project goodbye?

  I'm trying to make a pong game in pygame , but i can't figure out how to but a ball circle , which i can create with pygame.draw.circle into a pygame.Rect object so i can use the colliderect function and manipulate the ball's position. For example, with rectangles, i can do something like this : rect = pygame.Rect(255, 255, 100, 100) pygame.draw.rect(screen, yellow, rect) and then when i change the pygame.Rect object position , the drawing primitives position also changes. How can the same effect be achieved when i want to draw a circle, instead of a rectangle? Thank you.

I found that the file is created by Log class and doesn't have ability to switch it off and error handling. If I set the Scale3D as a default property, everything works as I expect. If I leave the actor spawned so I can see it, it is scaled. If I also "show collision", the collision displays correctly as well. Is there a prohibition against scaling collision shapes at runtime?

• Keeping application backend and UI synchronised

  Hi all. I have an app that works with a list of objects so has one central keyed list. The main window has a tree containing these object with some information, which is easy enough to populate as a one off event after loading. Now, the complicated part, any part of the application can add, remove, and more importantly change the details of those objects at any time (all in the same process) and I'd like the tree to update to suit. I have a few options including passing events back down from the object to the list to the form which seems to be the most flexible way. I can also do it lazily and repopulate the tree each time or periodically (very hackish). Does anyone have any better thoughts on how to structure this? This is being done in C# 2.0 but the concepts apply to any environment. Thanks

Using Java, I can make an basic swing csv/plain text editor in which user can switch between 2 different views. In term of object-oriented Technology, I clearly understand what encapsulation, inheritance and Polymorphism are I want to know more about programming. Sometimes I "google" some of the topics I am interested at , the more I see on the internet, the more I feel I am a small potato in the world ( indeed I am ). The codings/concepts are difficult to understand. I lacks confidence right now so I am asking this question :( What is the best way to learn programming to advanced level?   I'm working on a 2D game for windows phone where the player moves blocks around to bounce a laser beams. I need to create some simple physics for moving the blocks. For the moment I have a simple collision class, telling me if two rectangles collide. But that's not enough because when I'm moving a block the rectangle/rectangle function doesn't work. By Doesn't work i mean,I manage the collision but I don't how to stop the block mooving while the user sliding the block. The collision response for the block I want is if the user tries to slide it on another object, the block should slide up against the other object and not overlap. How would I go about implementing this functionality?

  I'm using GLEE2D, a level editor allowing me to import images, scale them, rotate them, and position them onto layers and export the data into XML format. However, it does not tell me objects' boundaries. I can calculate them, but only given the original image's polygons. How do I get polygons of objects in a transparent image? An example object (I outlined it): How would I turn the object, knowing the scaled size of the image, into polygons? Is there an algorithm for this? I'll use OpenGL to draw them.

  This question is more a design oriented question than a code specific question. I am new to PHP and I am planning to use PDO as a data access layer. Say for instance I have a class called CITY. Now if I need to create an instance of this class, what is the best technique. Should have a singleton DB access class which is used to write and read data from the db layer. OR should I delegate it to the individual class object. For example if I invoke city.save() (city is a class), then the city class will handle the saving of that city object's data into the database. Excuse my ignorance but i have a java background and therefore trying to understand what is the best design principle for data management when using php.

  Hi community! I have an ArrayCollection of objects. I'm passing this array to a horizontallist as a dataprovider and I'm using a custom itemRenderer. When executing the application, the horizontallist is displaying [object CustomClass][object CustomClass][object CustomClass][object CustomClass] I've tried casting each object in the itemrenderer as following: <mx:Label text="{(data as CustomClass).label1}"/> But it's not working... • C# powershell output reader iterator getting modified when pipeline closed and disposed.

  Hello, I'm calling a powershell script from C#. The script is pretty small and is "gps;$host.SetShouldExit(9)", which list process, and then send back an exit code to be captured by the PSHost object. The problem I have is when the pipeline has been stopped and disposed, the output reader PSHost collection still seems to be written to, and is filling up. So when I try and copy it to my own output object, it craps out with a OutOfMemoryException when I try to iterate over it. Sometimes it will except with a Collection was modified message. EDIT -- mHandle has a non-zero value when the function runs. updated code to add that check. • Dynamic gridview columns event problem

  Hi, i have a GridView (selectable) in which I want to generate a dynamic GridView in a new row BELOW the selected row. I can add the row and gridview dynamically in the Gridview1 PreRender event. I need to use this event because: _OnDataBound is not called on every postback (same for _OnRowDataBound) _OnInit is not possible because the 'Inner table' for the Gridview is added after Init _OnLoad is not possible because the 'selected' row is not selected yet. I can add the columns to the dynamic GridView based on my ITemplate class. But now the button events won't fire.... Any suggestions? • Convert NSData to primitive variable with ieee-754 or twos-complement ?

  Hi every one. I am new programmer in Obj-C and cocoa. Im a trying to write a framework which will be used to read a binary files (Flexible Image Transport System or FITS binary files, usually used by astronomers). The binary data, that I am interested to extract, can have various formats and I get its properties by reading the header of the FITS file. Up to now, I manage to create a class to store the content of the FITS file and to isolate the header into a NSString object and the binary data into a NSData object. I also manage to write method which allow me to extract the key values from the header that are very valuable to interpret the binary data. I am now trying to convert the NSData object into a primitive array (array of double, int, short ...). But, here, I get stuck and would appreciate any help. Therefore, I think that the Obj-C double does not use the IEEE-754 convention as well as the Obj-C int are not twos-complement. I am really not familiar with this two convention (IEEE and twos-complement) and would like to know how I can do this conversion with Obj-C. In advance many thanks for any help or information.
