• Silverlight RIA Services - how to do Windows Authentication?

  I am building my first Silverlight 3 + RI Services application and need some help. It will be deployed in an controlled corporate intranet, 100% windows clients. I have started from the Silverlight Business Application template. These are my requirements: Upon launch the application needs to recognize the currently logged-in user. The application needs to have access to other properties of the user in AD, such as email, full name, and group membership. Group membership is used to grand certain features in the application. A "login as a different user" link is to be always available - Some machines are available throughout the enterprise, logged-in as a certain generic user (verified by the absence of certain membership groups). In this case one can enter credentials and log in (impersonate) to the application as a user different from the one already logged-into the machine. This user is to be used in service calls I have modified the following in the default Business Application template: App.xaml: appsvc:WindowsAuthentication instead of the default FormsAuthentication Web.config: authentication mode="Windows" With these modifications I resolve requirement #1 (get the currently logged-in user). But when I examine RiaContext.Current.User, I don't have access to other properties from AD, such as group memberships. How can I achieve my other requirements? Thanks for your help.

• Omniauth/Devise/Facebook: Auth route is not recognized

  I've been working on this problem for 7 hours now, and I still have no idea. Maybe one of you can help me. I'm simply trying to integrate the OAuth feature of Devise 1.2rc, which uses Omniauth, into my Rails application. I've been using this tutorial by Devise: https://github.com/plataformatec/devise/wiki/OmniAuth%3A-Overview I have done everything they tell you to... Yes, I have added the following line to my devise.rb: config.omniauth :facebook, "APP ID", "APP SECRET" I have added :omniauthable to my user model, as well as the class function as described in the tutorial I have implemented the omniauth_callbacks controller, as well as the callback function, and I have specified the omniauth_callbacks controller in my routes.rb When I run "rake middleware" it does list the Omniauth middleware: use OmniAuth::Strategies::Facebook I have installed Devise directly from the Git repo, master branch, so it's up-to-date I have installed Omniauth 1.2.0.beta5, which is the latest version. In my Gemfile it says: gem 'oa-oauth', '0.2.0.beta5', :require = 'omniauth/oauth' I have restarted the server, obviously However, when I try to request this URL: http://localhost:3000/auth/facebook it simply says ActionController::RoutingError (No route matches "/auth/facebook"): /user/auth/facebook doesn't work either. Since I unfortunately don't have the time to take apart the entire Omniauth and Devise gems and understand every line of code in them, maybe one of you could tell me what the problem might be.

  Is it correct that in WCF, I cannot have a service write to a stream that is received by the client? My understanding is that streaming is supported in WCF for requests, responses, or both. Is it true that in all cases, the receiver of the stream must invoke Read ? I would like to support a scenario where the receiver of the stream can Write on it. Is this supported? Let me show it this way. The simplest example of Streaming in WCF is the service returning a FileStream to a client. This is a streamed response. The server code is like this: [ServiceContract] public interface IStreamService { [OperationContract] Stream GetData(string fileName); } public class StreamService : IStreamService { public Stream GetData(string filename) { FileStream fs = new FileStream(filename, FileMode.Open) return fs; } } And the client code is like this: StreamDemo.StreamServiceClient client = new WcfStreamDemoClient.StreamDemo.StreamServiceClient(); Stream str = client.GetData(@"c:\path\to\myfile.dat"); do { b = str.ReadByte(); //read next byte from stream ... } while (b != -1); (example taken from http://blog.joachim.at/?p=33) Clear, right? The server returns the Stream to the client, and the client invokes Read on it. Is it possible for the client to provide a Stream, and the server to invoke Write on it? In other words, rather than a pull model - where the client pulls data from the server - it is a push model, where the client provides the "sink" stream and the server writes into it. Is this possible in WCF, and if so, how? What are the config settings required for the binding, interface, etc? The analogy is the Response.OutputStream from an ASP.NET request. In ASPNET, any page can invoke Write on the output stream, and the content is received by the client. Can I do something similar in WCF? Thanks.

• Rails 2.3.2 trying to render ERB instead of HAML

  Rails is suddenly trying to render ERB instead of Haml and I can't figure out why. I've created new rails projects, reinstalled Haml, and reinstalled Rails. Here's exactly the steps I take when making my application (Rails 2.3.2): rails> rails test rails> cd test rails\test> haml --rails . rails\test> ruby script\generate model user email:string password:string rails\test> ruby script\generate controller users index rails\test> rake db:migrate Here's what the UsersController looks like: class UsersController < ApplicationController def index @users = User.all end end My routes: ActionController::Routing::Routes.draw do |map| map.resources :users end I now create views\users\index.html.haml: %table %th(style="text-align: left;") %h1 Users - for user in @users %tr %td= user.email %td= user.password Annnd run the server... I navigate to localhost:3000\users and I get this error message: Template is missing Missing template users/index.erb in view path app/views For some reason Rails is trying to find and render .erb files instead of .haml files. vendor\plugins\haml\init.rb exists, untouched. I've reinstalled Haml (Pretty Penny) multiple times and still get the same results. I've also tried adding config.gem 'haml' to my environment.rb but this also doesn't work. I can't figure out why suddenly rails will not render haml for me.

• Using Mod-Rewrite in XAMPP

  I've followed some tutorials on how to use Mod_Rewrite, but it's not working out. I have a php index page that takes a page parameter like so: call: index?page=name1, name2, name3 etc. <?php if (isset($_GET['page'])) { switch($_GET['page']) { case 'front': include "front.php"; break; default: break; } } ? I'd like to run mod-rewrite so that the urls display as site.com/name1. Is this possible with the code i'm using above? • Getting a "No default module defined for this application" exception while running controller unit t

  I have an application with the default directory structure, for an application without custom modules (see structure figure at the end). I have written a ControllerTestCase.php file as instructed in many tutorials, and I've created the appropriate bootstrap file as well (once again, see figures at the end). I've written some model tests which run just fine, but when I started writing the index controller test file, with only one test in it, with only one line in it ("$this-dispatch('/');"), I'm getting the following exception when running phpunit (but navigating with the browser to the same location - all is good and working): 1) IndexControllerTest::test_indexAction_noParams Zend_Controller_Exception: No default module defined for this application Why is this ? What have I done wrong ? • PHP and CURL under Windows 7 64 bits and Apache

  I'm trying to use curl with PHP on my box without any success. My Config : OS : win 7 64 bits, PHP : 5.3.1, Apache : 2.2.14 I was able to use the mysql extension, so the configuration of my php.ini seems fine. But I get and error in Apache log with curl : PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'C:/php-5.3.1/ext/php_curl.dll' - The specified module could not be found.\r\n in Unknown on line 0 The file is right there, and it's loading php_mysql.dll without any problem. I tried everything : to put the dll file in apache\bin, windows\system32, put the path of the php EXT in the PATH environment variable. to put some lib (libeay.dll and sssomething.dll) in windows 32 Well, I think this might have something to do with my Windows being 64 bits or with the version of PHP.. maybe. I don't know anymore :( Any idea? Update I'm not using Wamp because I like to know what I do to my system, and ultimately choose the version that I want of apache, php and MySql. My Solution I added the path of PHP in my PATH environement variable and it worked. I'll try to find out what was the DLL needed. Update : Well it looks like it was libeay32.dll and sslleay32.dll had to be in the PATH environment variable. I added to the bin subdirectory of Apache and it worked.

  Mono is really awesome. Some of our applications worked in linux out of the box even without recompiling the binary. However I am having tough time to configure oracle instantclient to use it with mono. I installed instantclient on a CentOS VM(by installing instantclient rpm) but however I did not find TNSNAMES.ORA anywhere. • ildasm and dynamic exe files

  Hi There, I am trying to create an application can modify properties in IL to create a slightly different executable. E.g Client A runs app and a label on the WinForm label Reads "Client A:". Client B runs the app and Label Says "Client B". Easy I know using config files or resource files but thats not an option for this project. The Main program needs to be able to generate .exe file dynamically based on some form fields entered by user. My solution was to create a standalone executable that contained all the elements which I needed to make dynamic. I then used ildasm to generate the IL and thought that I could use this IL and substitute tags for the elements i wanted to make dynamic. I could then replace those tags at runtime after user filled the form using regex etc. The problem is, the if i re save the IL file generated by ILDASM as an exe and try to run it. I just launches console and does nothing. Am I going about this the wrong way? I didnt want to delve into Reflection as the dynamic .exe is a really simple one and I thought reverse engineering IL with ildasm would be the quickest way. You thoughts and pointers are much appreciated. Tony

• Unable to use .xjb file inside wsdlc ant task

  Hi, I have a requirement of customize the default conversion provided by JAXB. For the xs:date type we need to show only the date part(removing the time). I have created an .xjb file and used the xjc command to generate the required classes. This is working perfectly and I got the desired results.   The Scenario I've been following Brad Abrams Silverlight tutorial on his blog.... I have tried following Brads "How to deploy your app to the Cloud" tutorial however i'm struggling with it, even though it is in the same context as the first tutorial.... The Question Is the application structure essentially the same as the original "non-cloud based version"!? If not, which parts are different? (I get that there is a Cloud Service project added to the solution) - but what else?! Connection String Issue In my "Non-Cloud based application", I make use of the ADO.Net Entity Framework to communicate with my database. • Git Diff with Beyond Compare

  I have succeeded in getting git to start Beyond Compare 3 as a diff tool however, when I do a diff, the file I am comparing against is not being loaded. Only the latest version of the file is loaded and nothing else, so there is nothing in the right pane of Beyond Compare. I am running git 1.6.3.1 with Cygwin with Beyond Compare 3. I have set up beyond compare as they suggest in the support part of their website with a script like such: #!/bin/sh # diff is called by git with 7 parameters: # path old-file old-hex old-mode new-file new-hex new-mode "path_to_bc3_executable" "$2" "$5" | cat Has anyone else encountered this problem and know a solution to this? Edit: I have followed the suggestions by VonC but I am still having exactly the same problem as before. I am kinda new to Git so perhaps I am not using the diff correctly. For example, I am trying to see the diff on a file with a command like such: git diff main.css Beyond Compare will then open and only display my current main.css in the left pane, there is nothing in the right pane. I would like the see my current main.css in the left pane compared to the HEAD, basically what I have last committed. • Eclipse Maven web application - can not run on server anymore

  I have an maven eclipse webapp project that I was able to right click and 'Run on server' and it would deploy on tomcat. I recently did a 'maven - Update project conifgurations' and I now can NOT deploy and run the project as a webapp. Has anyone seen this before? The only output from tomcat is as follows - it doesnt even look like its trying to deploy the application.   If i add pageBaseType="Spark.Web.Mvc.SparkView" in my web.config (necessary to fix intellisense), somehow it does not render links (probably not only) correctly anymore.   Hi All, I want any user to be able to submit their name to a volunteer form but only administrators to be able to view any other URL. Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to get this correct. • Servlet requests are executed sequentially for no apparent reason in Glassfish v3

  Hi, I'm using Glassfish 3 Web profile and can't get http workers to execute concurrently requests on a servlet. This is how i observed the problem. I've made a very simple servlet, that writes the current thread name to the standard output and sleep for 10 seconds : protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { System.out.println(Thread.currentThread().getName()); try { Thread.sleep(10000); // 10 sec } catch (InterruptedException ex) {} } } And when i'm running several simultaneous requests, I clearly see in the logs that the requests are sequentially executed (one trace every 10 seconds). INFO: http-thread-pool-8080-(2) (10 seconds later...) INFO: http-thread-pool-8080-(1) (10 seconds later...) INFO: http-thread-pool-8080-(2) etc. All my GF settings are untouched - it's the out-of-the-box config (the default thread pool is 2 threads min, 5 max if I recall properly). ...I really don't understand why the sleep() block all the others worker threads. This is especially difficult since the GMTransport is proprietary Google class and no sources are available, which would make it a bit easier to debug. Anyone have any ideas what to try next? • Integrating Search Server 2008 Express with WSS 3.0

  I'm setting up the environment for an intranet using WSS (Windows SharePoint Services) 3.0. The catch is getting the environment configured to work with MS Search Server 2008 Express. Here's the environment I'd like to setup: A: Web Server; Win Server 2003 SP2; WSS 3.0 SP2; IIS 6.0; .NET 3.5 SP1 B: Search Server; Win Server 2003 SP2; WSS 3.0 SP2; IIS 6.0; .NET 3.5 SP1; Search Server 2008 Express C: Database Server; Win Server 2003 SP2; SQL Server 2000 SP3 - Admin db, Content db, Config db, Search db The question is whether 3 servers can be used like the above configuration or if the Search Server (B) has to be combined with (A) since we're using the free Express version of the Search Server. The documentation from MS doesn't make it clear either way. I can attack this problem with trial and error but would rather not. The bigger question is: What is the best practice for a WSS / Search Server installation?

• BITS, TakeOwnership, and Kerberos / Windows Integrated Authentication

  We're using BITS to upload files from machines in our retail locations to our servers. BITS will stop transferring a file if the user who owns the BITS job logs off. Therefore, we're using a Windows Service running as LocalSystem to submit the jobs to BITS and be the job owner. This allows transfers to continue 24/7. However, it raises a question about authentication. We want the BITS server extensions in IIS to use Kerberos to authenticate the client machine. As far as I can tell, that leaves us with only 2 options, both of which are not ideal: Either we create an "ImageUploader" account and store its username/password in a config file that the Windows Service uses as credentials for the BITS job, or we ask the logged on user who creates the BITS job for his password, and then use his credentials for the BITS job. I guess the third option is not to use Kerberos, and maybe go with Basic Auth plus SSL. I'm sure I'm wrong and there's a better option. Is there? Thanks in advance.

• Using MSBuild 4 command line to publish ASP.NET web application

  In previous msbuild we used the target '_CopyWebApplication' in order to build and convert the source of a project into a published site, this worked OK, but wasn't ideal. In .NET 4, the publishing process is somewhat more sophisticated and additionally seems a bit of a black box to understand. Whilst packages look great, I cannot fully understand how they can be harnessed by a build server, the build server would not get any manifest information, and equally, something (msbuild?) is CREATING this manifest information FROM the project file. In our build server, I ideally want to say, here is my csproj file, deploy it by the package configuration 'x'. I'm trying to understand the workflow I need to make this happen. Right now when I use _CopyWebApplication, the result is different to doing a publish from visual studio 2010, primarily that web.config transforms aren't processed, and obviously msdeploy isn't involved at all. Can somebody point me in the right direction, I believe I need to get msbuild to do the equiv of 'Build Deployment Package', and then use msdeploy to deploy this from our build server to our CI testing environments. I know this is a very vague post, but I hope somebody can give me some hints, I'll be continuing research also, so if I make any progress, I'll post my findings here. Thanks in advance, Stephen.

I have been trying to follow the code here windsor-nhibernate-isession-mvc and i posted my question there as they seemed to have the exact same issue but mine is not resolved.
