• Where to start building a BaaS

  I'm building a Cloud Platform, and the next phase of design involves building an extensible BaaS back end. (see http://youtu.be/lNi-05-PyEw) The reason I think we can attempt this, is there are dozens of these kinds of extensible back end data proxy's popping up almost daily at this point, which tells me the enabling technology is there to build one from scratch in a few months. I'd like to start in the right area: What kind of Dev background should I look for? What kind of tech stack should I build on? What kind of costs can I expect in terms of man-hours, etc... I know there isn't one right answer here, but I think this is the right sub to post this in, and credit will go towards to most constructive answer.

• HP mini 5102 Ethernet does not work after suspend on Lubuntu 12.10

  Ethernet works fine after system is rebooted The onboard card is seen in 'lspci' as: 43:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Yukon Optima 88E8059 [PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller with AVB] (rev 11) After system being suspended the sky2 driver loads but does not enable the NIC. I have noticed that it happens when PC is left suspended for longer period of time (few houres) Trying to reproduce it I have tried to load the sky2 driver with 'modprobe sky2'. Unfortunately typing 'ifconfig -a' for the onboard ethernet adapter does not list the driver once the sky2 driver is loaded. I have searched internet and I found some information about a bug in kernel. Hovewer it was reported in 2010 so I hope it has been fixed. • Can these game be fully coded in html5/javascript?

  I mean the mechanics of the game. Would it be possible? -Pokemon GBA series, rendering the world would be easy, but what about battle mechanics? -MapleStory, after seen dragonbound.net which is an identical copy of Gunbound I would think it's rather possible, but I'm still not sure if javascript can handle all the mechanics of the world. It would be heavy on resources I guess? I'm asking this because I'm really interested in html5 game develop(I really think in a future will destroy flash on game dev ground). I want to have an idea of how far games developed with the html5/javascript technology can go. I got especially inspired by dragonbound. I really think it pushes htmlt/javascript to the limits (game dev).

  I am totally impressed about the Nokia City Lens application. How does the Nokia Lumia City Lens app work? Nokia Lumia City Lens app detects shops, restaurants, etc. by scanning the visual environment. But how can it detect shops or anything by only scanning visual information? Because we need a 360 degree view to detect a location. Because we can't simply match visual information and get that data. The visuals will change proportionally with distance and angle. So how does this app match the location and retrieve the information? Can anyone explain the concept What technology or algorithm is used in this app?

  I've got a problem with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. At first I ran mount command on terminal. Then I restarted my computer. After that, when my computer opened there is writing this: error: unknown filesystem grub rescue I searched commands and I found ls command. I tried it and I got this: (hd0) (hd0,msdos5) (hd0,msdos1) My computer's DVD driver is broken and I tried to boot Ubuntu on USB but it doesn't worked. • how to convince other we should move to hadoop?

  Everything I've read about Hadoop seems like exactly the technology we need to make our enterprise more scalable. We have terabytes of raw data that is in non-relational form (text files of some kind). We're quickly approaching the upper limits of what our centralized file server can handle and everyone is aware of this. Most people on the tech team, especially the more junior members of the tech team are all in favor of moving from the central file system to HDFS. The problem is, there is one key (most senior, etc.) member of the team who is resisting this change and every time Hadoop comes up, he tells us that we could simply add another file server and be in the clear. So, my question (and yes, it's really subjective, but I need more help with this than any of my other questions) is what steps can we take to get upper management to move forward with Hadoop despite the hesitation of one member of the team?

  I am a front-end developer. For many experiements I do I need to have a server that talks JSON with my client side app. Normally that server is a simple server that response to my POSTs and GETs. For example I need to setup a server that saves, modifies and read data from a "library" database like this: POST /books create a book GET /book/:id gets a book and so on... What is the fastest to set up and easiest technology stack for database and server in this case? I am open to use Ruby, Nodejs and anything that do the job fast and easy.   Is it possible to find out more information about particular visits in analytics? For example, say I'm looking at new versus returning users. I then add a secondary column of "city". Ok, now I know all new users from yesterday came from new york, for example. But what if I want to find out more information about those particular new vists from new york. Such as behaviors, technology, content. Is it possible to filter analytics to particular visits like you can filter to particular dates?

• How do you go about checking your open source libraries for keystroke loggers?

  A random person on the internet told me that a technology was secure(1), safe to use and didn't contain keyloggers because it is open source. While I can trivially detect the key stroke logger in this open source application, what can developers(2) do to protect themselves against rouge committers to open source projects? Doing a back of the envelope threat analysis, if I were a rogue developer, I'd fork a branch on git and promote it's download since it would have twitter support (and a secret key stroke logger). If it was an SVN repo, I'd create just create a new project. Even better would be to put the malicious code in the automatic update routines. (1) I won't mention which because I can only deal with one kind of zealot at a time. (2) Ordinary users are at the mercy of their virus and malware detection software-- it's absurd to expect grandma to read the source of code of their open source word processor's source code to find the keystroke logger.

• Raspberry Pi + Azure + Mobile App

  Ongoing project idea. So this is of long running personal interest to build a Mobile App that shows you a push notification/pop up alert, when anyone calls your house phone. So I've taken delivery of a Raspberry Pi. I've ordered a new Crucible Technology Caller ID Box. (arriving soon). I have been writing/learning Python to implement the Listener software. This will in turn push xml messages up to Azure for final delivery via push notifications to an App. iOS app already written to receive the notifications/allow address book additions made up from phone numbers from incoming calls. So this is fusion, R-Pi, Azure, Hardware and iOS. Details to follow as this plan unfolds.

  Java Runtime Environment 7u10 (a.k.a. JRE 1.7.0_10 build 18) and later updates on the JRE 7 codeline are now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12 Windows-based desktop clients. What do you need to do and where are the official patch requirements? EBS customers should ensure that they are running JRE 7u10, at minimum, on Windows desktop clients.  There are also official patch requirements to avoid compatibility issues of E-Business Suite with JRE 7.  Please refer to Steven Chan's Oracle E-Business Suite Technology blog for all the detailed information regarding this certification.
