• How to learn flex?

  So I'm starting an internship as a Flex developer in ~2weeks thanks to a friend of mine. The thing is I know squat about Flex - it is an internship after all so I'm supposed to learn there, but nonetheless I want to have some basic understanding of Flex before I start (eventually I want to become a JEE/Flex dev). So my question is simple, which book(s) would you recommend me to start with? Are there any "must have" books, like let's say "Thinking in C++" for C++ etc.? I already heard about a few video tutorials and I will surely check them out but I'd also want to get some decent books.

• All partitions missing when copying

  I bought a new 320GB SATA hard drive few months ago no recently when i try to copy something to the drive after about 20 seconds the all the partitions in the hard drive suddenly disappears. The hard drive is not shown in either Disk manager or device manager. To get the HD work i have to restart the PC again.The same thing happens when i try to copy. Even when i play any audio or video after abt 5 minutes i get the same problem. The drives are NTFS and im running Windows XP.. Xan some one please help me solve the problem??

• Possible to link an image in a playlist to a URL, with Flowplayer?

  I have a simple Flowplayer playlist. First one plays a short clip, which then cuts off, and an image is displayed. • WPF/MVVM - should we create a different Class for each ViewModel ?

  I'm attempting the example from the excellent "How Do I" video for MVVM by Todd Miranda found in MSDN. I'm trying to adapt the example for my learning purpose. In the example, he has a ViewModel called EmployeeListViewModel. Now if I want to include Departments, should I create another ViewModel such as DepartmentListViewModel? The example has EmployeeRepository as the Data Source. In my case, I'm trying to use an Entity object as the datasource (Employees.edmx in Model folder and EmployeeRepository.cs in DataAccess folder). If I want to display the list of Departments, should I create a separate class called DepartmentRepository and put all department related method definitions there? What if I want to retrieve the employee name and their department's name together? Where should I place the methods for this? I'm very new to WPF and MVVM and please let me know if any of the above needs to be re-phrased. Thank you for all the help.

  Hi, I'm looking for a user interface for a MediaPlayer which should be able to play video as well as audio files. Furthermore it needs the following things (nothing fancy): TextView for playing time Progress Bar for progress visulization Play/Pause/Stop buttons NO playlist functionality required, the player will only play a single item (that's why I don't need next/previous buttons). It sounds pretty much like the standard audio-player of Android = 2.0. Sure, I could try to find its source code but that would require to tediously check out the entire source. • $(...parent()).html() didn't capture the textarea content

  I am generating user control according to search result. And allowing to change text inside of textarea (picture or video description) aaaaaa is default text to change. User can change textarea and when user clicked on EKLE (ADD) button, i am cloning the EKLE button's parent and adding to result div. • Action Controller: Exception - ID not found

  Hi Everyone, I am slowly getting the hang of Rails and thanks to a few people I now have a basic grasp of the database relations and associations etc. You can see my previous questions here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2714621/rails-database-relationships I have setup my applications models with all of the necessary has_one and has_many :through etc. but when I go to add a kase and choose from a company from the drop down list - it doesnt seem to be assigning the company ID to the kase.   I watch some video and read articles about MVVM pattern and start thinking how should I implement it in my Silverlight app. So at first I create Silverlight application. I think that for clear view I create 3 folders: View - for each user control page in my app, ViewModel - for c# class which will querying date and Model- Entity Data Model of my SQL Server or Oracle Database. And now I am confused, cause I want to implement *WCF/RIA Services/Web services* in my project. In which folder should I put in class of services? I see in examples that Services take date and filtering it and then output data was binding in View - so It looks as ViewModel. But I was sure that someone use Services in Model and that I want to do. But how? Can someone explain me implementing Services as Model? Is my point of view at MVVM is correctly?

  I am a self-taught c++/java programmer (I will be starting uni in August though!). I have worked on one project in which I was part of an active team. I really felt I learnt the most and gained a lot of experience while working with the team. Unfortunately it was a small closed source project which has recently taken a slumber. I'm looking for some active open source c++ projects which I could contribute to (preferably that are mainly developed on the linux platform). The other project I worked on was a video game, however, I would like to contribute to a project which has a functional purpose (other than to amuse). Any suggestions on possible projects?

  I have the following form on an .NET MVC View: <form method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data" action="/Video/UploadDocument"> <input type="file" id="document1" name="document1"/> <input type="submit" value="Save"/> </form> And the controller has the following signature that gets called: public ActionResult UploadDocument(HttpPostedFileBase file) { return View(); } When I break inside the UploadDocument method, the parameter 'file' is null. I've selected a valid document on my desktop and know it contains text. What am I missing to get this file upload working?

• Setting up Subsonic 3.0 on a ASP.NET web application on Visual Studio 2008

  I followed the steps on this tutorial video by at subsonic website. Everything seems to be self explanatory but when I copy the .tt files into my Visual Studio nothing happens. I have read other question relating to this problem on this website but they don't seem to fix this problem. I also went into the regedit to find out the generator key for .tt files and it is properly set. This is not a visual studio express or anything but a professional edition also I am trying to build a ASP.net web application and not a MVC application like the demo. • My iPhone App doesn't work in iOS 4. Why?

  Hi everybody. I make a iPhone App that display some videos, I made it with Xcode 3.2.2 with iPhone SDK 3.1.3 and works fine. But a few days ago I downloaded the last version of the iPhone SDK for iOS 4, the proyect Build ok, no erros, no warnings, but when I run the aplication the video didn't work, the image didn't load but sound works. I don't understand it. Here is the code that I used. I know that some of it depends on how complex the pages are but i'm talking about average pages. • Using ScriptCombining through a ScriptManager on a Master Page

  ASP.NET 3.5 SP1 adds a great new ScriptCombining feature to the ScriptManager object as demonstrated on this video. However he only demonstrates how to use the feature with the ScriptManager on the same page. I'd like to use this feature on a site where the scriptmanager is on the master page but can't figure out how to add the scripts I need for each page programmatically to the manager. • Reformat a YouTube URL using jQuery

  I am using the YouTube Channel jQuery script to pull in data from a YouTube channel. Then I'm using an iFrame on the page to display the videos without leaving the site. The only problem is that the URLs the Channel plugin is pulling in don't quite work with my iFrame concept. They load the whole YouTube page instead of just the video. I figured out a workaround that basically I reformat the URL and tell it to display fullscreen and to autoplay will do what I would like it to do. The URLs are currently formatted like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxxxx&feature=youtube_gdata and I need them to be rewritten as http://www.youtube.com/v/xxxxxxxxx?fs=1&autoplay=1 I've seen a couple of similar topics here on SO, but given my limited jQuery and regex talents I wasn't able to get anything to work for my purposes.

  Hey, I would like to create a SDP media field with its attributes, and there are a few things I don't understand. I've skimmed and read the relevant RFC and I understand most of what each field means, but what I don't understand is how do I derive from the Audio/Video Format of the JMF, which parameters of the format compose the rtpmap registry entries I need to use. I see many times the fields m=audio 12548 RTP/AVP 0 8 101 a=rtpmap:0 PCMU/8000 a=rtpmap:8 PCMA/8000 a=rtpmap:101 telephone-event/8000 a=fmtp:101 0-16 a=silenceSupp:off - - - - a=ptime:20 a=sendrecv these are received from the pbx server I'm connecting to, what do they mean in the terms of the JMF audio format properties. (I do understand these are standard audio format commonly used in telecommunication) UPDATE: I was more wondering about the format parameter '0 8 101' at the end of m=audio 12548 RTP/AVP 0 8 101 Thanks in advance, Adam Zehavi.

• Help with Event-Based Components

  I have started to look at Event-Based Components (EBCs), a programming method currently being explored by Ralf Wesphal in Germany, in particular. This is a really interesting and promising way to architect a software solution, and gets close to the age-old idea of being able to stick software components together like Lego :) A good starting point is the Channel 9 video here, and there is a fair bit of discussion in German at the Google Group on EBCs. I am however looking for more concrete examples - while the ideas look great, I am finding it hard to translate them into real code for anything more than a trivial project. Does anyone know of any good code examples (in C# preferably), or any more good sites where EBCs are discussed?

• mmap() for large file I/O?

  I'm creating a utility in C++ to be run on Linux which can convert videos to a proprietary format. The video frames are very large (up to 16 megapixels), and we need to be able to seek directly to exact frame numbers, so our file format uses libz to compress each frame individually, and append the compressed data onto a file. Once all frames are finished being written, a journal which includes meta data for each frame (including their file offsets and sizes) is written to the end of the file. I'm currently using ifstream and ofstream to do the file i/o, but I am looking to optimize as much as possible. I've heard that mmap() can increase performance in a lot of cases, and I'm wondering if mine is one of them. Our files will be in the tens to hundreds of gigabytes, and although writing will always be done sequentially, random access reads should be done in constant time. Any thoughts as to whether I should investigate this further, and if so does anyone have any tips for things to look out for? Thanks!

• Is there a distributed VCS that can manage large files?

  Is there a distributed version control system (git, bazaar, mercurial, darcs etc.) that can handle files larger than available RAM? I need to be able to commit large binary files (i.e. datasets, source video/images, archives), but I don't need to be able to diff them, just be able to commit and then update when the file changes. I last looked at this about a year ago, and none of the obvious candidates allowed this, since they're all designed to diff in memory for speed. That left me with a VCS for managing code and something else ("asset management" software or just rsync and scripts) for large files, which is pretty ugly when the directory structures of the two overlap.

  I'm working on some apps for the android platform and I have two problems that I'm not quite sure how to approach, and both are closely related. How can I send a relatively small data file from one android device to another (preferably over the internet or directly through wireless network)? Is it possible to create a temporary p2p live data stream from one android device to another? An example application would be to stream low-res video from phone A's camera to phone B, or audio. I would much appreciate being pointed in the right direction on either issue (File transfer or real time data transfer).

• ASP.NET - fast Segmented downoad of file through webservice

  Hi, Im doing this project where i need to download files through a webservice (images, videos). The download MUST go through an existing webservice. The existing webservice was made when there were no need to upload and download files but the project has changed and now we need to do It through a webservice. Right now I have implemented the download as a method that returns a byte[], I open a streamreader and resds the entire file into a byte[] and returns it to my method. This is working file on small files <~1Mb, above it takes too long time. I want to show some progress (e.g. when the user downlaods a 20Mb video) which i cannot do right now. And i want to make it download much faster (is a strategy to use multithreading and several threads that downloads a part of the file?). It is within a WPF application i need to do this. Any ideas on how to approach this?

• Why does A* path finding sometimes go in straight lines and sometimes diagonals? (Java)
