• How to delete duplicate records in MySQL by retaining those fields with data in the duplicate item b

  I have few thousands of records with few 100 fields in a MySQL Table. Some records are duplicates and are marked as such. Now while I can simply delete the dupes, I want to retain any other possible valuable non-null data which is not present in the original version of the record. Hope I made sense. For instance : a b c d e f key dupe -------------------- 1 d c f k l 1 x 2 g h j 1 3 i h u u 2 4 u r t 2 x From the above sample table, the desired output is : a b c d e f key dupe -------------------- 2 g c h k j 1 3 i r h u u 2 If you look at it closely, the duplicate is determined by using the key (it is the same for 2 records, so the one that has an 'x' for dupe field is the one to be deleted by retaining some of the fields from the dupe (like c, e values for key 1). Please let me know if you need more info about this puzzling problem. Thanks a tonne! p.s : If it is not possible using MySQL, a PERL/Python script sample would be awesome! Thanks!

• How to stop MVC caching the results of invoking and action method?

  I am experiencing a problem with IE caching the results of an action method. Other articles I found were related to security and the [Authorize] attribute. This problem has nothing to do with security. This is a very simple "record a vote, grab the average, return the avg and the number of votes" method. The only slightly interesting thing about it is that it is invoked via Ajax and returns a Json object. I believe that it is the Json object that is getting catched. When I run it from FireFox and watch the XHR traffic with Firebug, everything works perfectly. However, under IE 8 the "throbber" graphic doesn't ever have time to show up and the page elements that display the "new" avg and count that are being injected into the page with jQuery are never different. I need a way to tell MVC to never cache this action method. • Improve Efficiency for This Text Processing Code

  I am writing a program that counts the number of words in a text file which is already in lowercase and separated by spaces. I want to use a dictionary and only count the word IF it's within the dictionary. The problem is the dictionary is quite large (~100,000 words) and each text document has also ~50,000 words. As such, the codes that I wrote below gets very slow (takes about 15 sec to process one document on a quad i7 machine). I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my coding and if the efficiency of the program can be improved. Thanks so much for your help. • Initialization of controllers in a for loop - leaking problem ?

• SQL Agent Logon - What is going on?

  I have a DTSX package that is called from a SQL Agent Job. The DTSX package references a file at a fixed location (e.g. e:\mssql\myfile.txt). On most machines, this location exists, but on some I have to manually map this (which is not a problem - I know a better solution would be to use package conifgurations to dynamically pull the file location, but this is not an option here - and anyway I'd like to understand what is going on) I have set up the agent service to run as a specific user (e.g. myuser) When I log on as this user and map the directory, then run the dtsx package directly, then all goes well. When I run the package through a SQL Agent Job, the file cannot be found. If I add a command line job step to the agent job to map the drive: net use e: \\svr\location Then all works file also. So what is going on in the backgound? How come the SQL Agent user requries the drive mapping even when I am logged in as this user.

• Newbie database index question

  I have a table with multiple indexes, several of which duplicate the same columns: Index 1 columns: X, B, C, D Index 2 columns: Y, B, C, D Index 3 columns: Z, B, C, D I'm not very knowledgeable on indexing in practice, so I'm wondering if somebody can explain why X, Y and Z were paired with these same columns. B is an effective date. C is a semi-unique key ID for this table for a specific effective date B. D is a sequence that identifies the priority of this record for the identifier C. Why not just create 6 indexes, one for each X, Y, Z, B, C, D? I want to add an index to another column T, but in some contexts I'll only be querying on T alone while in others I will also be specifying the B, C and D columns... so should I create just one index like above or should I create one for T and one for (T, B, C, D)? I've not had as much luck as expected when googling for comprehensive coverage of indexing. Any resources where I can get a through explanation and lots of examples of B-tree indexing?

I have to build a OpenCV project which was made in VS2005 by one of my colleagues into VS2008. The project is for blob detection. Following is what he has to say in readme : Steps to use the library (using MSVC++ sp 5): 1 - open the project of the library and build it 2 - in the project where the library should be used, add: 2.1 In "Project/Settings/C++/Preprocessor/Additional Include directories" add the directory where the blob library is stored 2.2 In "Project/Settings/Link/Input/Additional library path" add the directory where the blob library is stored and in "Object/Library modules" add the cvblobslib.lib file 3- Include the file "BlobResult.h" where you want to use blob variables. 4- To see an example on using the blob library, see the file example.txt inside the zip file. NOTE: Verify that in the project where the cvblobslib.lib is used, the MFC Runtime Libraries are not mixed: Check in "Project-Settings-C/C++-Code Generation-Use run-time library" of your project and set it to Debug Multithreaded DLL (debug version ) or to Multithreaded DLL ( release version ). 2 Check in "Project-Settings-General" how it uses the MFC.   I'm attempting to use the AJAX Control Toolkit's Rating control in a DataBinding scenario. I have a ReuseRating column in my database that is a tinyint. It can hold values 1 through 5. Every record in the table has the value set to 1 currently. If I do this in my ItemTemplate everything works fine. I get 1 star filled in on my rating control. <act:Rating ID="ReuseRatingRating" runat="server" CurrentRating='<%# Convert.ToInt16(Eval("ReuseRating")) %>' MaxRating="5" StarCssClass="ratingStar" WaitingStarCssClass="savedRatingStar" FilledStarCssClass="filledRatingStar" EmptyStarCssClass="emptyRatingStar" /> Now I want to DataBind this in my EditTemplate like so. <act:Rating ID="ReuseRatingRating" runat="server" CurrentRating='<%# Convert.ToInt16(Bind("ReuseRating")) %>' MaxRating="5" StarCssClass="ratingStar" WaitingStarCssClass="savedRatingStar" FilledStarCssClass="filledRatingStar" EmptyStarCssClass="emptyRatingStar" /> Note, that I changed my Eval to a Bind in the CurrentRating property. • Parsing large delimited files with dynamic number of columns

  Hi, What would be the best approach to parse a delimited file when the columns are unknown before parsing the file? The file format is Rightmove v3 (.blm), the structure looks like this: #HEADER# Version : 3 EOF : '^' EOR : '~' #DEFINITION# AGENT_REF^ADDRESS_1^POSTCODE1^MEDIA_IMAGE_00~ // can be any number of columns #DATA# agent1^the address^the postcode^an image~ agent2^the address^the postcode^^~ // the records have to have the same number of columns as specified in the definition, however they can be empty etc #END# The files can potentially be very large, the example file I have is 40Mb but they could be several hundred megabytes. Below is the code I had started on before I realised the columns were dynamic, I'm opening a filestream as I read that was the best way to handle large files. I'm not sure my idea of putting every record in a list then processing is any good though, don't know if that will work with such large files. • Dynamic Google Maps API InfoWindow HTML Content

  I am working in Flash Builder 4 with Google Map's ActionScript API. I have created a map, loaded some custom markers onto it and added some MouseEvent listeners to each marker. The trouble comes when I load an InfoWindow panel. I want to dynamically set the htmlContent based off of information stored in a database. The trouble is that this information can change every couple of seconds and each marker has a unique data set so I can not statically set it at the time I actually create the markers. I have a method that will every minute or so load all of the records from my database into an Object variable. Everything I need to display in the htmlContent is contained in this object under a unique identifier. The basic crux of the problem is that there is no way for me to uniquely identify an info window, so I can not determine what information to pull into the panel. marker.addEventListener(MapMouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, function(e:MapMouseEvent):void { showInfoWindow(e.latLng) }, false, 0, false); That is my mouse event listener. The function I call, "showInfowindow" looks like this: private function showInfoWindow(latlng:LatLng):void { var options:InfoWindowOptions = new InfoWindowOptions({title: appData[*I NEED A UNIQUE ID HERE!!!*].type + " Summary", contentHTML: appData[*I NEED A UNIQUE ID HERE!!!*].info}); this.map.openInfoWindow(latlng, options); } I thought I was onto something by being able to pass a variable in my event listener declaration, but it simply hates having a dynamic variable passed through, it only returns the last value use. Example: marker.addEventListener(MapMouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, function(e:MapMouseEvent):void { showInfoWindow(e.latLng, record.unit_id) }, false, 0, false); That solution is painfully close to working. I iterate through a loop to create my markers when I try the above solution and roll over a marker I get information, but every marker's information reflects whatever information the last marker created had. I apologize for the long explaination but I just wanted to make my question as clear as possible. • Efficient alternative to merge() when building dataframe from json files with R?

The fromJSON() function reads in the data as lists of lists. Each element of the list is a person, which then contains a list of the attributes for that person. For example: [[1]] person_id name gender hair_color [[2]] person_id name location gender height [[...]] structure(list(person_id = "Amy123", name = "Amy", gender = "F", hair_color = "brown"), .Names = c("person_id", "name", "gender", "hair_color")) structure(list(person_id = "matt53", name = "Matt", location = structure(c(47231, "IN"), .Names = c("zip_code", "state")), gender = "M", height = 172), .Names = c("person_id", "name", "location", "gender", "height")) The end result of the code above is matrix where the columns are every person-attribute that appears in the structure above, and the rows are the relevant values for each person. As you can see though, some data is missing for some of the people, so I need to ensure those show up as NA and make sure things end up in the right columns. Further, location itself is a vector with two components: state and zip_code, meaning it needs to be flattened to location.state and location.zip_code before it can be merged with another person record; this is what I use unlist() for. I then keep the running master table in people_data. The above code works, but do you know of a more efficient way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? It appears the merge() is slowing this to a crawl... I have hundreds of files with hundreds of people in each file. Thanks! Bryan

• php get, random records, and the back button

  My site has a library full of games, nations, game scenarios, etc. library.php is given a type=___ & id=___ for example library.php?type=scenario&id=ABCD001 library.php saves the id to a session variable and loads an include appropriate for the type This all works just dandy. Now, I wanted to give my users the option of pulling up a random scenario. To do that, I added a special id to the logic within lib-scenario.php (the include) such that if given library.php?type=scenario&id=random the include knows to run an alternate query for a random record rather than for the actual id This also works just dandy... unless someone hits the Random Scenario button two+ times in a row, and decides that the previous random scenario was way cooler, I want to go back to that. Because the http address is always directory/library.php?type=scenario&id=random no matter how many times you click Random Scenario, as soon as you click back you'll be taken to the last page with an alternate address you visited. So, if you start at the Home page, and hit Random Scenario 35 times, then decide the 34th one was what you wanted and click BACK, you'll be put back onto the Home page. I must admit this was not a problem I had anticipated. One of my testers was the first to have the urge to back-up in the random scenario stream and here we are. How can I add back-up functionality to my script?

• AVAudioPlayer working in Simulator, but not on device

  My mp3 playing code is: NSError *error; soundObject = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:audioPathString] error:&error]; if (soundObject == nil) NSLog(@"%@", [error description]); soundObject.delegate = self; soundObject.numberOfLoops = 0; soundObject.volume = 1.0; NSLog(@"about to play"); [soundObject prepareToPlay]; [soundObject play]; NSLog(@"[soundObject play];"); The mp3 used to play fine, and it still does on the simulator. But not on the device. I've recently added some sound recording code (not mine) to the software. It uses AudioQueue stuff which is slightly beyond me. Does that conflict with AVAudioPlayer? Or what could be the problem? I've noticed that as soon as the audiorecording code starts working, I can't adjust the volume on the device anymore, so maybe it blocks the audio playback?. EDIT The solution seems to be to put this in my code. I put it in applicationDidFinishLaunching: [[AVAudioSession sharedInstance] setCategory: AVAudioSessionCategoryPlayAndRecord error: nil]; UInt32 audioRouteOverride = kAudioSessionOverrideAudioRoute_Speaker; AudioSessionSetProperty (kAudioSessionProperty_OverrideAudioRoute,sizeof (audioRouteOverride),&audioRouteOverride); The first line allows both play and record, whilst the other lines apparently reroute things to make the volume louder. All audio code is voodoo to me.

• Jquery: Create hidden attributes? I need to reduce tag bulkyness.

  I'm sure we've all done this before: <a id="232" rel="link_to_user" name="user_details" class="list hoverable clickable selectable"> USER #232 </a> But then we say, oh my, I need more ways to store tracking info about this div! <a id="232-343-22" rel="link_to_user:fotomeshed" name="user_details" class="groupcolor-45 elements-698 list hoverable clickable selectable"> User: John Doe </a> And the sickness keeps growing. We just keep on packing it inside that poor little element and it's attributes. All so we can keep track of who it is. So with my limited knowledge of JS, someone please tell me how to do something like this: <a id="33">USER #33</a> $(#33).attr({title:'User Record','username':'john', 'group_color':'green', 'element_num':78}); So here we just added what I would call invisible attributes, because we just played God and made those attributes up on the fly like it was no problem. The cool part is that these would be kept in their own little object somewhere in variable land. NOT in the tag itself. Then later on, in a code nested far far away, be able to say, oh, i wonder what group_color John is... user_group_color = $(table).find(a['username':'john']).attr('group_color'); THEN BAM!!!! POW!!!! alert(user_group_color + " is a bitchin color!"); You get to know his group color... all without adding a bunch of bloated element tracking nonsense into our tags. So does this sort of thing exist? If not, how do I make it?

• Writing to a file in Python inserts null bytes

  I'm writing a todo list program. It keeps a file with a thing to do per line, and lets the user add or delete items. The problem is that for some reason, I end up with a lot of zero bytes at the start of the file, even though the item is correctly deleted. I'll show you a couple of screenshots to make sure I'm making myself clear.
