• How to "select file" with Python script? . Google App Engine . Python .

  I'm trying to create an online application for a python function i have created. in my script, i input the path of my file for the computer (input_path = '/users/user/desktop/input.txt') but i'm not sure how to go about this using Google App Engine . I have the choice between 3 templates: flask, django, and bottle . I really do believe this question is relevant for people transitioning from scripts to web-based applications. Do I need to incorporate GUI stuff from Tkinter or something? There has to be a way to simply select a file to use for the input path in an interactive way using python scripts

• jQuery slideDown + CSS Floats

  I'm using a HTML Table with several rows. Every second row - containing details about the preceding row - is hidden using CSS. When clicking the first row, the second row gets showed using jQuery show(). This is quite nice, but I would prefer the slideDown-Effect. The problem is, inside the details row, there are two floating DIVs, one floating on the left, and one on the right. Now if i slideDown the previously hidden row, the contained DIVs behave strange and "jump around". • Sinatra Set Settings (Ruby)

  Using Sinatra in Ruby you can set the server's settings by doing: set :myvariable, "MyValue" and then access it anywhere in templates etc with settings.myvariable. In my script I need to be able to re-set these variables falling back to a bunch of defaults. I figured the easiest way to do this would be to have a function that performs all the sets calling it at the start of the Sinatra server and when I need to make the alterations: class MyApp < Sinatra::Application helpers do def set_settings s = settings_from_yaml() set :myvariable, s['MyVariable'] || "default" end end # Here I would expect to be able to do: set_settings() # But the function isn't found! get '/my_path' do if things_go_right set_settings end end # Etc end As explained in the code above, the set_settings function isn't found, am I going about this the wrong way?

  The VSTO bit I understand. Visual Studio has the project templates to get you started with creating nice .NET based add-ins. But where is VSTA? I installed the SDK but it seems to be gears towards adding extensibility to your own applications. I had thought that VSTA was like the new VBA for Office 2007. Infopath 2007 seems to be VSTA enabled but I cannot seem to find where Excel 2007 is also VSTA enabled. Am I missing something?

• Complex orderby question (entity framework)

  Ok, so I will start by saying that I am new to all this stuff, and doing my best to work on this project. I have an employee object, that contains a supervisor field. When someone enters a search on my page, a datagrid displays employees whose name match the search. But, I need it to display all employees that report to them and a third tier of employees that report to the original employee's underlings. I only need three tiers. To make this easier, employees only come in 3 ranks, so if rank==3, that employee is not in charge of others. I imagine the best method of retrieving all these employees from my employee table would be something like from employee in context.employees where employee.name == search || employee.boss.name == search || employee.boss.boss.name == search But I am not sure how to make the orderby appear the way I want to. I need it to display in tiers. So, it will look like: Big Boss Boss underling underling Boss underling Boss Boss Big Boss Like I said, there might be an easier way to approach this whole issue, and if there is, I am all ears. Any advice you can give would be HIGHLY appreciated.

• form submit button moves cutting image

However, what annoys me is that when the submit button is clicked in IE it moves the image up a couple of pixels cutting them off which makes it look, hmm, good word, 'naff.' How can I compensate or stop this? I have tried expanding the image and leaving a couple of blank pixels at the top but it still does the same thing! Thanks R.

  I want to do the following things in my application 1) I want to display whether any USB drive is inserted or not in my application to prompt the user to insert a USB drive. I just want to notify the user if any USB dirve is inserted else prompt him to insert one using a label or something (i want to avoid messagebox as it will keep appearing whenever a device is inserted or removed. It will be irritating for the end user) in my Visual C# WinForm Application. If any USB drive is present display "USB drive detected" in the label. The user may add one or more USB sticks but the status will remain same. When there is none then the status of the label will change to "No USB drives found.Please insert a USB drive". 2) When one or more USB drive is added the volume name with the drive letter for example "James(F:)" is added to the Combobox list. The combobox list also needs to remove the entry for the USB drive added in the list automatically when it is removed . So when there is no USB the list should be empty and the label will again prompt user to insert a USB stick or drive.

• Good code visualization / refactoring tools for C++?

  I've found myself coming across a lot of reasonably large, complicated codebases at work recently which I've been asked to either review or refactor or both. This can be extremely time consuming when the code is highly concurrent, makes heavy use of templates (particularly static polymorphism) and has logic that depends on callbacks/signals/condition variables/etc. Are there any good visualization tools for C++ period, and of those are there any that actually play well with "advanced" C++ features? Anything would probably be better than my approach now, which is basically pen+paper or stepping through the debugger. The debugger method can be good for following a particular code path, but isn't great for seeing the big picture you really need when doing serious refactoring. EDIT: I should mention that Visual Studio plugins aren't going to be a lot of help to me, since our stuff is mostly Linux-only.

  Hi there, I have created a new website for a company and I would like all the previous search engine results to be redirected. Since there were quite a few pages and most of them where using an id I would like to use something generic instead of re-routing all the old pages. My first thought was to do that: Router::connect('/*', array('controller' => 'pages', 'action' => 'display', 'home')); And put that at the very end of the routes.php file [since it is prioritized] so that all requests not validating with previous route actions would return true with this one and redirect to homepage. However this does not work. • Why is this Javascript that writes out a Google Ad not displaying properly on the iPhone?

  I have this Javacsript code that checks to see if there is a DIV named "google-ad", and if there is, it writes in a the necessary code to display the Google Ad. This works great in browsers like Firefox, Chrome, Safari on Mac, and Android. However, when I bundle this code with Adobe's Phonegap Build, and deploy it to iPhones, it behaves strangely. It launches a browser window displaying just the Google Ad alone. • Programmatically filtering contacts in Outlook 2010 Add-In

  I am trying to programmatically filter Outlook contacts in the Contacts folder in Outlook 2010. I followed DASL filter rules, but it seems working for Find function and throws exception when I assign this filter to view.Filter = FilterString. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? • silverlight adding single prism command delegate to a list of items in xaml

  I'm building a menu using Prism (using a trtelerik tree view with hierarchy data templates but hopefully the details don't matter) and I'm trying to set up a Click.Command on each menu items bindings that will all call the same delegate command which is defined in the view model. The menu is built up out of items which I don't really want to put any references to the command in. How do I bind the command to each of these items in xaml? I've looked around and it looks like in WPF I could use a relative source binding and find ancestors but there doesn't seem to be a way of doing this in silverlight. Can I setup the delegate as a static resource somehow? I don't think I can create a static resource to the view model as this uses Unity to resolve paramters to it's constructor.

• Purpose of boost::checked_delete

  I don't understand the purpose of boost::checked_delete. The documentation says: The C++ Standard allows, in 5.3.5/5, pointers to incomplete class types to be deleted with a delete-expression. When the class has a non-trivial destructor, or a class-specific operator delete, the behavior is undefined. Some compilers issue a warning when an incomplete type is deleted, but unfortunately, not all do, and programmers sometimes ignore or disable warnings. The supplied function and class templates can be used to prevent these problems, as they require a complete type, and cause a compilation error otherwise. So the C++ standard allows you to delete incomplete types, which causes undefined behavior if the type has a non-trivial destructor. What? How can an incomplete type have any destructor at all? Isn't an incomplete type just a prototype?

• What's the most straightforward way to typeset MLA-style college essays in LaTeX?

  I've been using LaTeX for a little while now to typeset my algorithms homework, and I really like the quality of the output as well as the ease-of-use. I'd like to starting using LaTeX in other classes as well, but non–computer-science subjects have more stringent formatting requirements than I've come across in CS. Most classes that require essays want them to be formatted in MLA style, but I'm not sure what to best way to do that using LaTeX is. I've tried Googling "latex mla" and other similar things, but I've found many different MLA templates, and my LaTeX skills aren't good enough to determine which is the best. Is anyone else using LaTeX for "normal" essays, and, if so, how are you doing it?

• How to make CSS/HTML prototyping faster for engineers without strong CSS skills?

  I've been developing Ruby on Rails applications for some time, and have often found help to develop generate the templates of HTML with accompanying CSS. However, I'd like to make an attempt at doing this myself. Initial experiments leave me feeling like my process is really slow. I'm writing all my Rails code in VIM, which, with accompanying aliases to run the test suite, is pretty fast for me. However, the back-and-forth between browser/VIM to see new changes seems cumbersome - I'm guessing finding an editor with an embedded browser that constantly sees new changes is ideal for this (any suggestions?) So far I've experimented with Blueprint, which at the onset seems like it will save me a ton of time. However, what other tools have helped you do the PSD-HTML/CSS conversion as fast as you can?

  To build a menu block which should be switchable with hide/unhide of the menu items, I'm using .append html. But the point is:: I use JS to read the required menu items (eg. 'aMenu1' together with title and/or link info) from a file to build all that, eg. for 'aMenu1' a complex is composed and $("#someElement").append(someString) is used to add that the 'someElement'. At the moment I build those html elements line by line. Also OK .. as far as the resulting string has the opening and closing tag, eg. "<li>aMenu2</li>". As can be seen from above posted code there is a line "<div id="' + menuSlider + '" style="display:none">". Appending that -- AFAIS -- the .append is automatically (????) adding "</div>" which closes the statement. That breaks my idea of the whole concept! The menu part isn't included in the 'menuSlider '. QQ: How to change it -- NOT to have that "</div" added to it?? Günter

  Lets say I have a WPF application that shows a ListBox with an ArrayList -populated with objects of arbitrary types- as a source, and this application is hosted in an assembly 'A'. By default the ListBox will display the custom object 'ToString' method return value. If a data template for that object type is found, the ListBox will use it for rendering. Imagine that theres another assembly 'B' that references of 'A' and seeks to extend it by providing custom data templates for certain types, to be used in that ListBox. Is there some way to do that without 'A'being aware of B?

• How do you Bind to a ComboBox in a DataTemplate?

  I have a listbox that is bound to an observable collection of Audio (custom class). The Audio class has two properties, DisplayText (string) and a property called TarpIds (Observable Collection of Integer). I need to allow the user to change the TarpID in the combo box for each list item displayed and catch the selection change. I created a DataTemplate that styles the DisplayText property from the Audio object and adds a ComboBox to display the available TarpIDs for this audio (These are dynamic and unique to each Audio). The DisplayText works great, but I can not get the TarpIDs to display in the ComboBox. Here is what I have so far and thanks for any help. • Why would the same web form control render different "onclick" logic based on the page structure?

  It was hard to title this question. :) I have a user control that is used to display a list of lookup items in my database and a delete button for each item (Editor User Control below). The delete button has an onClientClick event used to display a confirmation dialog in JavaScript. On page one, the confirmation pops up and functions correctly. The overall structure is: Master Page Page Editor User Control List of items with delete button On page two, the confirmation pops up but regardless of the answer, the page posts back anyway. The structure of this page is: Master Page Page User Control Editor User Control List of items with delete button For some reason, this makes a difference in how the delete button is rendered. • Why ASP.NET menu control ignores roles in Web.sitemap?

  Hi, I have a website with a menu based on sitemap. ActiveDirectoryRoleProvider is a custom class. securityTrimmingEnabled of sitemap provider is set to true. Now, nevertheless the roles set in the sitemap file, site menu displays every sitemap entity. So for example if I have in sitemap a node with roles="*", a second one with roles="Administrators" and a third one with roles="Foo" and I login as a member of Administrators group but not Foo group, the site menu will display all three items. On the other hand, if I have a node which does not specify roles attribute but has children, this node will never be displayed. If I put: <%= HttpContext.Current.User.IsInRole("Administrators") ? "Admin" : "Not admin"%> <%= HttpContext.Current.User.IsInRole("Foo") ? "Foo" : "Not foo"%> before the menu, it displays that I'm Admin, but Not foo, which is just fine. So if it knows that I'm Admin but Not foo, why does it continue to display Foo's sitemap nodes? Note: changing authorizations has no effect on the menu. It continues to show every item, even for the pages I'm unable to access.
