  • Why is my firewall preventing me from accessing some websites

    I have an old Belkin router and when I enable the firewall I cannot access certain websites. For example: http://www.avisynth.org With Firewall Enabled: Main page loads and begins to do a meta refresh which never finishes. With Firewall Disabled: Main page loads and the meta refresh completes as normal and I am taken to the wiki page. I have not setup any rules in my firewall that would prevent this site from loading, yet it refuses to load unless I have the firewall disabled completely. My router has a hidden page with advanced settings on it for the firewall which I was able to acccess and take a screenshot of, but I did not want to mess with these values unless I absolutely have to do so: What might be causing this problem and how would I go about fixing it?

At that point, I receive the error: The membership provider name specified is invalid.   • How can I use Windows Firewall to only permit the Windows Update service to make an outbound connection?

    I'm trying to tailor my Windows Firewall settings (using the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security console) to only permit programs that need to access the Internet with an outbound connection to do so. This works fine for normal applications as I can just allow the program, but services that load in the svchost.exe process are a problem. The only services I actually need to give access to are Windows Update and the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (and even that, I would only like Windows Update to be able to submit jobs to, but that's another issue.) Is there a method to only allow these to be permitted an outbound connection, and not any of the other services loaded in svchost?

  • Using OpenID as the only authentication method

    I have read the other questions and they mostly talk about the security of doing so. That's not entirely my concern, mostly because the website is question is a browser-based game. However, the larger issue is the user - not every user is literate enough to understand OpenID. Sure RPX makes this pretty easy, which is what I'll use, but what if the user does not have an account at Google or Facebook or whatever, or does not trust the system to log in with an existing account? They'd have to get an account at another provide - I'm sure most will know how to do it, let alone be bothered to do it. There is also the problem of how to manage it in the application. A user might want to use multiple identities with a single account, so it's not as simple as username + password to deal with. How do I store the OpenID identities of a user in the database? Using OpenID gives me a benefit too: RPX can provide extensive profile information, so I can just prefill the profile form and ask the user to edit as required. (I'm not sure if the tables above are right) What measures do I need to take in order to prevent someone from logging in as another user and happily doing anything with their account? (as I understand RPX sends the identifier via HTTP, so what anyone would have to do is to just somehow grab it then enter it in the "OpenID" field) What else do I need to be aware of when using OpenID?

  • Setup mutt to read through a threaded message and then return to the email index

    I have begun using mutt (terminal email client) recently and I have it setup very nicely and easy to use. My only gripe is that sometimes it is difficult to tell when I transition from one thread to the next. Is it possible to setup the bindings such that moving to the next-undeleted message would check if the next-undeleted message is in the same thread, and if that check is false it returns to the index or throws an error? For example, I currently have bind pager <down> next-undeleted bind pager } next-subthread Is there a more advanced function call that could perform this check? I haven't been able to find much on how to perform more complex function calls with such checks while checking out the manual. Any help would be appreciated.

    In the most recent build of Winamp, either the Jump dialog has been ruined or there's some hidden "advanced" setting that i'm missing. The Jump dialog used to have a few options, like "Jump to file and play" "Jump to file without playing" "Queue file to start playing next, after this song finishes" But now it only shows (CANCEL) as the only button, and you can press enter on a file to start play. What happened to the JUMP & QUEUE feature? I want to jump to a file, but QUEUE it to be played next, not play it immediately.

  • JavaScript source file not loading in IE8 Popup

    I have an issue where the JavaScript source file is loading in popup for IE6, Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera. But the same source file is not loading up in IE8. As a result of this the HTML is not being replaced in the Popup and I am getting an error in IE8 popup saying tinyMCE is not defined I have referred to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2949234/formatting-this-javascript-line and solved issue on all browsers except IE8.   • Won`'t read Unicode characters over NFS mount ?

    Hello, I'm getting this strange issue when trying to play mp3's containing unicode characters ( accents ) over an NFS on OSX, it's all good over AFP, but I'm setup with NFS because it's a linux server on the other end . This is my disk utility setup : nfs://192.168.1.112/Music advanced mount parameters : -P , nolocks nosuid The strange thing is that I can see those files in the finder ( with the accents .. ) but I cant play them !! So Im wondering if it's an unicode issue, since I can see the files properly or a permission issue since I can't play them, but them it wouldn`t make sense that I can't play ONLY the files containing accents .. help ??     After running chkdsk C: /F /R and finding out that my hard disk has 24 KB in bad sectors (log is posted below), I decided to run Windows 7's System File Checker utility (sfc /scannow). SFC showed the ff. message after I ran it: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log."     Hi, I am trying to talk to a SOAP web service using SUDS and Python. After lots of messing around learning Python (yes I am new to this) and working out how to use SUDS I have come across a problem. The signature of the web method I am calling, according to suds, is (FWTCaseCreate){ ClassificationEventCode = None Priority = None Title = None Description = None Queue = None DueDate = None AssociatedObject = (FWTObjectBriefDetails){ ObjectID = (FWTObjectID){ ObjectType = None ObjectReference[] = <empty> } ObjectDescription = None Details = None Category = None } Form = (FWTCaseForm){ FormField[] = <empty> FormName = None FormKey = None } Internal = None InteractionID = None XCoord = None YCoord = None } So I use SUDS to create the classes that I want and send it to the method. However I get an error. So I turned logging on and I can see that the XML that is being sent is not correct which is causing a deserialize error.   • IE8 Crashes Strangely on JavaScript Popup

    Hi, I am facing a strange issue after the popup is created onclick. The popup opens up but hangs immediately on IE8 (works fine on all the other browsers including IE6). But on adding the alertbox as show in the JavaScript code, the popup works fine. I am using **https** and not **http** and i feel popup is not able to load the JS file because of SSL.     Hey guys, First of all, i have read the "millions" of post on this site and some blogs/forum post on other websites, and no answer is solving my problem. I'm my app, there's a possibility to import a txt or csv file with data. In the case of the error, the file contains 444 rows (file is 14,5 kB). When i try to send it to the server to process it, i get an QuotaExceedException, telling me to increase MaxReceivedMessageSize.     I recently installed Snow Leopard Server and am trying to get the most out of the services it offers, but one thing that currently seems pretty barebones is the Wiki it provides. Can Snow Leopard Servers wiki be modified with plugins the way MediaWiki can? Are there any good plugins to allow you to include templates like MediaWiki? Is there any way to include embeded syntax highlighted example code? Is there even a good name to refer to it as when searching for it? "Snow Leopard Wiki" just turns up a bunch of wikis about SL. Alternatively, how hard is it to install MediaWiki(or some other more advanced wiki engine) on SL Server? Could you plug it in to the same authentication mechanism?
