• Async file uploads in Firefox reset on any DOM change

  I'm pretty sure this is a Firefox or flash-related bug, but I just want to check if anyone has ran into this problem or knows how to fix it. Basically, we have a multi-file upload widget for our highly dynamic web app (think Gmail). We've tried both uploadify for jQuery, and YUI uploader. We've also tried taking those out of our app interface and putting them in an iFrame. What happens is that in the event of any DOM manipulation, even if the uploader is in an iFrame, be it a tab change (in our web app) that covers the iframe temporarily, or a block, etc., the uploader will stop its current upload. In the case of YUI uploader, it fires the "contentReady" event again. This ONLY happens in Firefox. IE and Chrome are fine. In case you are wondering, we really don't have any custom needs here. Just need to have multi-upload file support, and we need to give people free reign to tab around in our interface while an upload is in progress. It seems like Yahoo! and Gmail have both solved this problem. How? What are we doing wrong?

• Zend file upload error

  I am attempting to upload a file using Zend Framework 1.8 and I get some errors. Here is the code snippet: The form element: $element = new Zend_Form_Element_File('doc'); $element->setLabel('Upload an image:') ->setDestination('/path/to/my/upload/folder'); $element->addValidator('Count', false, 1); $element->addValidator('Size', false, 102400); $element->addValidator('Extension', false, 'jpg,png,gif,doc,docx,xls,xlsx,txt'); $this->addElement($element); The code for handling the upload: $adapter = new Zend_File_Transfer_Adapter_Http(); if (!$adapter->receive()) { $messages = $adapter->getMessages(); echo implode("\n", $messages); } This works fine and the file is uploaded but I get the error "The file 'doc' was illegal uploaded, possible attack". I managed to get past this problem by not creating a new Zend_File_Transfer_Adapter_Http() but instead using: $adapter = $form->doc->getTransferAdapter(); With this modification, the first error disappears but now I have an error saying I have provided 2 files instead of one (probably its reading the temp) and when I adjust the validator to accept two files I then get the arror saying "The file 'doc' was not found" and the upload now fails completely. Please help

• MSBuild "Wrapper" fails while VS2010 "Pure" compile succeeds for MFC application in CruiseControl.NE

  The Overview I am working on a Continuous Integration build of a MFC appliction via CruiseControl.net and VS2010. When building my .sln, a "Visual Studio" CCNet task (devenv) works, but a wrapper MSBuild script run via the CCNet MSBuild task fails with errors like: error RC1015: cannot open include file 'winres.h'.. error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'afxwin.h': No such file or directory error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'afx.h': No such file or directory The Question How can I adjust the build environment of my msbuild wrapper so that the application builds correctly? (Pretty clearly the MFC paths aren't right for the msbuild environment, but how do i fix it for MSBuild+VS2010+MFC+CCNet?) Background Details We have successfully upgraded an MFC application (.exe with some MFC extension .dlls) to Visual Studio 2010 and can compile the application without issue on developer machines. Now I am working on compiling the application on the CI server environment I did a full installation of VS2010 (Professional) on the build server. In this way, I knew everything I needed would be on the machine (one way or another) and that this would be consistent with developer machines. VS2010 is correctly installed on the CI server, and the devenv task works as expected I now have a wrapper MSBuild script that does some extended version processing and then builds the .sln for the application via an MSBuild task. This wrapper script is run via CCNet's MSBuild task and fails with the above mentioned errors My Assumptions This seems to be a missing/wrong configuration of include paths to standard header resources of the MFC persuasion I should be able to coerce the MSBuild environment to consider the relevant resource files from my VS2010 install and have this approach work. But how do I do that? Am I setting Environment variables? Registry settings? I can see how one can inject additional directories in some cases, but this seems to need a more systemic configuration at the compiler defaults level.

• Empty POST from jQuery UI Dialog to PHP function with $.post

  Hello, I am having hell of a time trying to figure this one out. Maybe someone can help me here or point me in the right direction. I have a jQuery UI dialog that pops up when user clicks on an image. The dialog displays a form with 2 drop down windows. "dept" and "group". Group drop down is disabled, until something is selected in the "dept" dropdown menu. When user selects a department, I do a POST to php function and then enable and populate the group drop down. Simple enough... <select name="dept" id="dept_select" onchange="getDeptGroups(this.value);"> // Some data here </select> JS function: function getDeptGroups(dept) { // This alert works and displays department name. //alert(dept); $.post("/am/ldap/getDepartmentGroups.php", { department: dept }, function(data){ alert(data); }); } and finally in php page i just do <? print_r($_POST); ?> and end up with empty array. Array ( ) This happens in both, Chrome and Firefox, however, FireBug clearly shows post data being submitted: What am i doing wrong here?

It is all right in Solvers.xaml because there really is no DockingManager but MainWindow.xaml should work, shouldn't it? How to solve the problem? Note: It seems to me that the files are processed separately and because the file Solvers.xaml contains the error the MainWindow.xaml file also contains the very same error. Note 2: XAML files use AvalonDock library Is there a way how to say that Solvers.xaml is only an extension of another file? Thank you for any help!

• (C#) Get index of current foreach iteration

  Hi, Is there some rare language construct I haven't encountered (like the few I've learned recently, some on Stack Overflow) in C# to get a value representing the current iteration of a foreach loop? For instance, I currently do something like this depending on the circumstances: int i=0; foreach (Object o in collection) { ... i++; } Answers: @bryansh: I am setting the class of an element in a view page based on the position in the list. I guess I could add a method that gets the CSSClass for the Objects I am iterating through but that almost feels like a violation of the interface of that class. @Brad Wilson: I really like that - I've often thought about something like that when using the ternary operator but never really given it enough thought. As a bit of food for thought it would be nice if you could do something similar to somehow add (generically to all IEnumerable objects) a handle on the enumerator to increment the value that an extension method returns i.e. inject a method into the IEnumerable interface that returns an iterationindex. Of course this would be blatant hacks and witchcraft... Cool though... @crucible: Awesome I totally forgot to check the LINQ methods. Hmm appears to be a terrible library implementation though. I don't see why people are downvoting you though. You'd expect the method to either use some sort of HashTable of indices or even another SQL call, not an O(N) iteration... • sqlite is required for merb?

  I have a question regarding merb dependency with sqlite. I am going to install merb on my m/c and I don't have sqlite installed on my m/c . I tried this command "gem install merb" and saw following error. If there any way to install merb with mysql please tell me. Building native extensions. This could take a while...   Hi all, I've been working on some code in js/html and it works great. I'm now trying to package it into an add-on for Firefox, and having some issues getting the XUL document correct. PLAIN OLD HTML/JS In my html test file between the <head></head> I have: <script type="text/javascript" src="js/MyCode.js"></script> At the end of the test file before the </body> I have: <script type="text/javascript">MyCode.Static.Init();</script> FIREFOX ADD-ON: OVERLAY.XUL In an overlay.xul file in the extension package I have : <?xml version="1.0"?> <overlay id="mycode" xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"> <script type="application/x-javascript" src="chrome://mycode/content/MyCode.js"></script> <script> window.addEventListener("load", function () { gBrowser.addEventListener("load",MyCode.Static.Init,true); }, false); </script> </overlay> This does not seem to enter the method, but then again I'm not even sure if I've got the listeners firing properly. Among them are listed forwarding enums and strongly typed enums but they are listed as "partial". The main text of the article says that this means they are either incomplete or implemented in some non-standard way. So I've got VS2010RC and am playing around with the C++0x features. I can't figure these ones out and can't find any documentation on these two features. • VS 2008 does not understand .resource files

  I'm trying to add globalization support to my C# application. According to MSDN, there should be one embedded resource file for neutral culture and satellite DLLs with resource files for other cultures. I've created 2 satellite DLLs without any problems and got my app to automatically load right one using ResourceManager. But I can't embed default neutral culture resource file into my executable. When I remove all satellite DLLs or set culture to some culture I don't have satellite DLL for, I get exception "Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture." when application attempts to create ResourceManager. It looks like VS 2008 does not include my .resource file into main assembly. I've tried different ways to get resource file embedded: compiling it by resgen.exe from text file and adding it to the project; changing its name to add second .resources extension; creating .resx file with same name; etc. And I still don't see the way to get resource file embedded and used by ResourceManager - I'm having same exception. What is the right way to add default neutral culture resource file to application in VS 2008 ?

• Issue intercepting property in Silverlight application

  I am using Ninject as DI container in a Silverlight application. Now I am extending the application to support interception and started integrating DynamicProxy2 extension for Ninject. • Browser history back with scrollable div

  When I Jump to section 1 & 2 everything works fine, and the browsers I tested (IE8, FF3.6, Chrome 5.0.342.3) scrolls down to the respective anchor in the div. But when I press the browser history back button the div won't scroll back up. • Please explain JSONP

  I don't understand jsonp. I understand JSON. I don't understand JSONP. Wikipedia is the top search result for JSONP. It says JSONP or "JSON with padding" is a JSON extension wherein a prefix is specified as an input argument of the call itself. Huh? What call? That doesn't make any sense to me. JSON is a data format. There's no call. The 2nd search result is from some guy named Remy, who writes JSONP is script tag injection, passing the response from the server in to a user specified function. I can sort of understand that, but it's still not making any sense. What is JSONP, why was it created (what problem does it solve), and why would I use it? Addendum: I've updated Wikipedia with a clearer and more thorough description of JSONP, based on jvenema's answer. Thanks, all.

• Determining failing sectors on portable flash memory

  I'm trying to write a program that will detect signs of failure for portable flash memory devices (thumb drives, etc). I have seen tools in the past that are able to detect failing sectors and other kinds of trouble on conventional mechanical hard drives, but I fear that flash memory does not have the same kind of predictable low-level access to the hardware due to the internal workings of the storage. Things like wear-leveling and other block-remapping techniques (to skip over 'dead' sectors?) lead me to believe that determining if a flash drive is failing will be difficult at best, if not impossible (short of having constant read failures and device unmounts). Flash drives at their end-of-life should be easy to detect (constant CRC discrepancies during reads and all-out failure). But what about drives that might be failing early? Are there any tell-tale signs like slower throughput speeds that might indicate a flash drive is going to fail much sooner than normal? Along the lines of detecting potentially bad blocks, I had considered attempting random reads/writes to a file close to or exactly the size of the entire volume, but even then is it possible that the drive might report sizes under its maximum capacity to account for 'dead' blocks? In short, is there any way to circumvent or at least detect (algorithmically or otherwise) the use of block-remapping or other life extension techniques for flash memory? Let me end this question by expressing my uncertainty as to whether or not this belongs on serverfault.com . This is definitely a hardware-related question, but I also desire a software solution - preferably one that I can program myself. If this question is misplaced, I will be happy to migrate it to serverfault - but I do need a programming solution. Please let me know if you need clarification :) Thanks!

• Prototype's Ajax.Updater not actually updating on IE7.

  I am trying to submit a form using Ajax.Updater and have the result of that update a div element in my page. Everything works great in IE6, FF3, Chrome and Opera. However, In IE7 it sporadically works, but more often than not, it just doesn't seem to do anything. Here's the javascript: function testcaseHistoryUpdate(testcase, form) { document.body.style.cursor = 'wait'; var param = Form.serialize(form); new Ajax.Updater("content", "results/testcaseHistory/" + testcase, { onComplete: function(transport) {document.body.style.cursor = 'auto'}, parameters: param, method: 'post' } ); } I've verified using alert() calls that param is set to what I expect. I've read in many places that IE7 caches aggressively and that it might be the root cause, however every after adding the following to my php response, it still doesn't work. header("Last-Modified: " . gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s") . " GMT"); header("Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate"); header("Cache-Control: post-check=0, pre-check=0", false); header("Pragma: no-cache"); To further try to fix a caching issue I've tried adding a bogus parameter which just gets filled with a random value to have different parameters for every call, but that didn't help. I've also found this, where UTF-8 seemed to be causing an issue with IE7, but my page is clearly marked: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with IE7 as opposed to the other browsers I tested to cause this kind of issue?

• jQuery1.4.2 $.ajax crashes IE6/7

  Hello there! I'm having a really hard time debugging one of our latest reported bugs. The problem occurs "randomly", not on every page load, sometimes I can "click" around for a minute or two before IE6/7 crashes. By crash I mean that the IE-window shuts down and I get the option to send the crash info to Microsoft. In FF, Chrome, Safari, IE8 everything is working perfectly. What the page does is issuing 2 AJAX Jsonp calls and building some menus with the data returned. The data brought back can be from ~500b to approx. 35kb. The JSON is valid (else it wouldn't have loaded at all in FF etc), and as i told previous, it works for when navigating around the site soemtimes in IE6/7. I've tested to comment out the callbacks, still crashes. If I remove the $.ajax calls the page will work again. Whats strange is that if I downgrade to jQuery 1.3.2 everything works in all browsers including IE6/7. I've taken the crash-logs and looked at them in WinDbg and what happens seems to be a NULL POINTER reference. The last entries of the stack trace is as follows mshtml!CTreePos::SourceIndex+0x9 mshtml!CMarkup::InsertElementInternal+0x3a8 mshtml!CDoc::InsertElement+0x98 mshtml!CDocument::get_implementation+0x144 Anyone having a clue what could cause this?

• Strage character encoding problem with Eclipse / Spring / Tomcat 6

  Hi, I have been trying things all da but can't get a proper solution. My problem is: I am developing a Spring MVC based app in my local Tomcat. My MYSQl database has UTF-8 encoding set, all content in there displays properly when using phpMyAdmin. Also the output in LOG files using log4j in catalina.out works fine. My JSP pages are configured by <!-- encoding --> <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" %> <%@ page pageEncoding="UTF-8" %> Also showing data on my JSP works fine. I can also send data from my Controller without any DB intereference using special chars, e.g. String str = "UTF-8 Test: Ä Ö Ü ß è é â"; logger.debug(str); mav.addObject("utftest", str); That displays correctly in log and on jsp page in browser. BUT: When having special chars directly in my JSP file, e.g. for text in headers, this does not work. FF and Google Chrome display strange chars but report the page to be UTF-8. When switching to Latin, the chars just get more and more strange. Same problem when showing text tokens from my messages.properties file, although Eclipse says when right-clicking that UTF-8 will be used. I am a little it lost and don't know where to check now. Summary: DB storage is fine DB output on JSP is fine Output on JSP directly form controller is fine even reading in form forms is fine .properties files and JSP text is not fine !!! Any ideas? I really appreciate and tips.

• Firefox reloading parent page in iframe when clicking named anchor

  My site has an iframe which is dynamically populated with html content. The html often contains named anchors, which work fine in IE/Chrome but in Firefox it reopens the entire page within the iframe. • Prevent Ninject from calling Initialize multiple times when binding to several interfaces

  Hi We have a concrete singleton service which implements Ninject.IInitializable and 2 interfaces. Problem is that services Initialize-methdod is called 2 times, when only one is desired. We are using .NET 3.5 and Ninject 2.0.0.0. Is there a pattern in Ninject prevent this from happening. Neither of the interfaces implement Ninject.IInitializable. the service class is: public class ConcreteService : IService1, IService2, Ninject.IInitializable { public void Initialize() { // This is called twice! } } And module looks like this: public class ServiceModule : NinjectModule { public override void Load() { this.Singleton<Iservice1, Iservice2, ConcreteService>(); } } where Singleton is an extension method defined like this: public static void Singleton<K, T>(this NinjectModule module) where T : K { module.Bind<K>().To<T>().InSingletonScope(); } public static void Singleton<K, L, T>(this NinjectModule module) where T : K, L { Singleton<K, T>(module); module.Bind<L>().ToMethod(n => n.Kernel.Get<T>()); } Of course we could add bool initialized-member to ConcreteService and initialize only when it is false, but it seems quite a bit of a hack. And it would require repeating the same logic in every service that implements two or more interfaces. Thanks for all the answers! I learned something from all of them! (I am having a hard time to decide which one mark correct). We ended up creating IActivable interface and extending ninject kernel (it also removed nicely code level dependencies to ninject, allthough attributes still remain).

• IValueConverter from string

  I have an Enum that needs to be shown in ComboBox. I have managed to get enum values to combobox using ItemsSource and I'm trying to localize them. I thought that that could be done using value converter but as my enum values are already strings compiler throws error that IValueConverter can't take string as input. I'm not aware of any other way to convert them to other string value. Is there some other way to do that (not the localization but conversion)? • asp.net Membership : Extending Role membership?

  Hi there, I am been taking a look at asp.net membership and it seems to provide everything that i need but i need some kind of custom Role functionality. Currently i can add user to a role, great. But i also need to be able to add Permissions to Roles.. i.e. Role: Editor Permissions: Can View Editor Menu, Can Write to Editors Table, Can Delete Entries in Editors Table. Currently it doesn't support this, The idea behind this is to create a admin option in my program to create a role and then assign permissions to a role to say "allow the user to view a certain part of the application", "allow the user to open a menu item" Any ideas how i would implement soemthing like this? I presume a custom ROLE provider but i was wondering if some kind of framework extension existed already without rolling my own? Or anybody knows a good tutorial of how to tackle this issue? I am quite happy with what asp.net SQL provider has created in terms of tables etc... but i think i need to extend this by adding another table called RolesPermissions and then I presume :-) adding some kind of enumeration into the table for each valid permission??
