• VS2010 Publish Profiles -- Where are they stored?

  We have set up a few Publish Profiles that are used to deploy web apps to various servers, and it all works great with 1-click deployment. However, w find that even though the entire solution is under source control (svn), the profiles do not seem to be carried over, so we need to re-create the profiles on each developer's machine manually. It seems, since the profiles only exist for the solution currently loaded, that they must be stored in the solution files somewhere, but they do not carry over when someone else does an update to pull down the code. I'm guessing whatever file they're in is one we aren' covering in the source control project, but I haven't been able to figure out which one. Someone must know where the Publish Profiles are stored -- is there any way to copy them from machine to machine so we don't have to retype them for each developer?

• .NET Application using a native DLL (build management)

  I have a .NET app that is dependent on a native DLL. I have the .NET app set as AnyCPU. In the post-build step, I plan to copy the correct native DLL from some directory (x86 or AMD64) and place it in the target path. However, this doesn't work. On a 64-bit machine, the environment variable PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE is "x86" in Visual Studio. My alternative right now is to create a small tool that outputs the processor architecture. This will be used by the post-build step. Is there a better alternative? (Side Note: when deploying/packaging the app, the right native DLL is copied to the right platform. But this means we have two separate release folders for x86 and AMD64, which is OK since this is for a device driver. The app is a utility tool for the driver).

• What is the easiest way to reference libraries in Qt projects?

  I have two Qt4 Gui Application projects and one shared library project, all referenced under a .pro file with the "subdirs" template. So, it's like: exampleapp.pro app1.pro app2.pro sharedlib.pro Now, what I want to do is reference sharedlib from app1 and app2 so that every time I run app1.exe, I don't have to manually copy sharedlib.dll from its own folder to app1.exe's folder. I could set PATH environment variable in the projects window, but this isn't very portable. I've looked at putting the LIBS variable in the app1.pro file, but I'm not sure if that refers to statically linked libraries only - I've tried it with various syntaxes and it doesn't seem to work with shared libs.

• Rails - authoritative source for your database schema?

  I have Rails app, and every once in a while, when I bring new developer onboard they exclaim that they should be able to produce the current DB schema in their dev environment by running the whole history of the migrations. I personally don't think that migrations is the authoritative source for your schema. Right now what we do is load a production copy of the DB, with the current schema, onto the dev machine. And, from there, the schema can be maintained via incremental migrations. So my question are: What is the authoritative source of your schema on a Rails project? What is now considered the best-practice way to maintain your DB schema?

• CodedUI null reference exception even when object exists

  Hi, I have created a coded ui test that checks something in my software. It worked fine, but now I keep getting null reference exception when I try to interact with the UITestControl. The starnge thing is, that the UITestControl's 'Exist' property returns true, which means that the control had been found. I've searched and found this topic: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vsautotest/thread/c2e6e5c3-2503-4506-9963-733fd84fbd25, But I have checked in my project, and the 'Copy Local' propert of these assemblies is set to false. I think that this execption first occurred after I have added an app.config file to my project. Maybe this might be the problem? If so, how can I fix this without deleting my app.config file?   Hi, I'm trying to install this fossil in DOS 6.22, which is running in Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. I'm hoping that some of you veteran Oracle developers have any recollection of in what order do these diskette images need to be loaded, since I don't have any documentation available for 6.0.33. A friend emailed me the following 720K diskette images: INSTALLE.IMG RDBMS1.IMG RDBMS2.IMG RDBMS3.IMG RSF.IMG SQLLDR1.IMG SQLLDR2.IMG UTIL1.IMG UTIL2.IMG UTIL3.IMG Within Virtual PC, I capture a diskette image, one at a time, into Drive A: VPC's floppy disk emulation supports FAT12, so the supported diskette formats can be: 720K or 1.44MB. If anyone happens to have documentation for this legacy version, I would greatly appreciate a copy of it! Thank You.

• MS Access (2010) Enable Design View

  I downloaded the Access template below for doing a home inventory: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=home%20inventory&ex=1&queryid=0d245f2a%2Dacdc%2D4161%2D92c8%2D8ba16a52ab32&AxInstalled=1&c=0#ai:TC101918100| The design view is not visible, which is a bit of a nuisance. Things I've tried: 1) In options/options/current database/ the check boxes (enable layout view & enable design changes for tables in Datasheet view) are both greyed out. 2) I've unblocked the file using Right-Click-Properties. 3) I've tried copying/exporting the objects to another database. But can only copy/export the tables. 4) I've tried holding shift when opening the DB. 5) Enabling all trust permissions etc. None of these work Does anybody have any suggestions. (I'm using Office 2010) Thanks

Is there a way to send these arguments in a secure way using the Process class? Thanks!

• Jasper Reports - Do I need to add all libraries to my Build Path?

  I want to use Jasper Reports in my Java application. I use Eclipse. I have added jasperreports-3.7.2.jar to my Build Path in Eclipse, but when compiling I get many NoClassDefFoundError-exceptions, so I have to add those libraries too to my Build Path. Do I really need to copy all jar-libraries that Jasper Reports are using to my lib-directory and then add them to my Build Path in Eclipse, or is it any easier way to solve this? The libraris I'm talking about are those in Jaspers Report's lib-directory, i.e. commons-digerster-1.7.jar, commons-logging-1.0.4.jar and so on...

• C# ASP.Net The type or namespace name 'iAnywhere' could not be found

  Morning all, I know that this sounds like a simple referencing problem from the title this is becoming a nightmare! I have a code class that uses the "iAnywhere.Data.AsaClient.dll". This Dll is referenced in the project and in the code class I have added this dll in the Using section. Everything seems fine at build with no errors at all but when I go to run the application it comes up with the following Compilation Error: Compiler Error Message: CS0246: The type or namespace name 'iAnywhere' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) The line that the Error points to this line in the class: using iAnywhere.Data.AsaClient; I have set the dll to copy local and it makes no difference, the Dll is installed on my PC so is in the GAC, I use this Dll with many other C# projects and have no problems. I have scoured Google looking for an answer and haven't found anything that points me to an answer to my problem. Any help would be brilliant!

  SQL Server 2008 provides the ability to script data as Insert statements using the Generate Scripts option in Management Studio. Is it possible to access the same functionality from within a SSIS package? Here's what I'm trying to accomplish... I have a scheduled job that nightly scripts out all the schema and data for a SQL Server 2008 database and then uses the script to create a "mirror copy" SQLCE 3.5 database. I've been using Narayana Vyas Kondreddi's sp_generate_inserts stored procedure to accomplish this, but it has problems with some datatypes and greater-than-4K columns (holdovers from SQL Server 2000 days). The Script Data function looks like it could solve my problems, if only I could automate it. Any suggestions?

  My BizTalk receive XML message as a input message. I am converting that message to HL7 message using Transform in orchestration. Now if input message consists of any empty field in any of the node, the HL7 message breaks up at that postion and also include space in that message. • LINQ-to-SQL and SQL Compact - database file sharing problem

  Hello. I'm learing LINQ-to-SQL right now and i have wrote a simple application that define SQL data: [Table( Name = "items" )] public class Item { [ Column( IsPrimaryKey = true, IsDbGenerated = true ) ] public int Id; [ Column ] public string Name; } I have launched 2 copy of application connected to the same .sdf file and tested if all database modifications in one application affects another application. But strange thing arise. If i use InsertOnSubmit() and DeleteOnSubmit() in one application, added/removed items are instantly visible in other application via 'select' LINQ queue. But if i try to modify 'Name' field in one application, it is NOT visible in other applicaton until it reconnects the database :(. The test code i use: var Items = from c in db.Items where Id == c.Id select c; foreach( var Item in Items ) { Item.Name = "new name"; break; } db.SubmitChanges(); Can anyone suggest what i'm doing wrong and why InsertOnSubmit()/DeleteOnSubmit works and SubmitChanges() don't?

I use a line similar to this one in the [Files] section: Source: "folder\*desktop.ini"; DestDir: "{app}\folder"; Flags: recursesubdirs uninsneveruninstall; Attribs: hidden This line only works if I remove the hidden attributes. If all are hidden, it complains that it could not find any files. How can I configure Inno to search for hidden files using patterns?

• Copying a massive databse for local ruby on rails development?

  Hi guys, There is a massive database (GB) that I am working with now and all of the previous development has been done on a slicehost slice. I am trying to get ready for more developers to come in and work so I need each person to be able to setup his own machine for development, which means potentially copying this database. Selecting only the first X rows in each table to cut size could be problematic for data consistency. Is there any way around this, or is a 1 hour download for each developer going to be necessary? And beyond that, what if I need to copy the production DB down for dev purposes in the future? Sincerely, Tyler

• bash: flushing stdin (standard input)

  I have a bash script that gets some input as stdin. After processing, I copy a file using "-i" (interactive). However, this never gets executed since (I guess) standard input has not been flushed. To simplify with an example: #!/bin/bash while read line do echo $line done # the next line does not execute read -p "y/n" x echo "got $x" Place this in t.sh, and execute with: ls | ./t.sh The read is not executed. I need to flush stdin before the read. How could it do this?

• Reference non-GAC version of DLL in Visual Studio 2010

  This is similar to Add Non-GAC reference to project but the solutions presented there don't seem to help. I have a WinForms UI Library (Krypton from ComponentFactory) installed in the GAC. There's a bug I want to track down in that library, so I added the source code to my solution, removed the old references from my WinForms project to Krypton DLLs, added them back as a project references, ensured Copy Local is set to true, double-checked that the path (on reference properties tab) points to my local project, and... ...the GAC version is still being used while debugging. I cannot set a breakpoint in the Krypton source, Debugger.Break() or other code changes to not execute, and when I start the Visual Studio 2010 debugger, I see a Loading from ... GAC_MISL message relating to the Krypton DLLs flash by in the VS 2010 status bar. The DLLs are not copied to the WinForm's Debug folder. How can I reference the "project" version of the files while debugging while leaving them registered in the GAC?

• PHP: How should I move my code from dev to production?

  I have created a PHP web-application. I have 3 environments: DEV, TEST, PROD. What's a good tool / business practice for me to move my PHP web-application code from DEV to TEST to the PROD environment? Realizing that my TEST environment still only connects to my TEST database; whereas, I need to PROD environment to connect to my PROD database. So the code is mostly the same, except that I need to change my TEST code once moved into PROD to connect to the PROD database and not TEST database. I've heard of people taking down Apache in such away that it doesn't allow new connections and once all the existing connections are idle it simply brings down the web server. Then people manually copy the code and then manually update the config files of the PHP application to also point to the PROD instance. That seems terribly dangerous. Does a best practice exists?

Basically, whenever I try to send an email with BCCs via SMTP the BCC addresses are not hidden - I've read the whole RFC for the SMTP protocol (a couple years ago) and I don't think I'm missing anything. The strange thing is, if I send an email with BCCs using the built-in mail() function everything works just right and I've no idea why - I would like to roll my own email sender but I fail to understand this. Can someone please shed some light into this dark subject?

• Is there a way to only backup a SQL 2005 database structure fully, but only the data in a certain se

  I have several schemas in my database, and the largest one ("large" meaning disk space consumed) is my "web" schema which is a denormalized copy of data in the operational schemas. This denormalized data is able to be reconstructed at anytime, and is merely there for extremely fast read purposes. Since the data is redundant, and VERY large - I'd like to exclude it from being backed up. I already have stored procedures that can regenerate all of the data in that schema in a couple of hours - for use in the event of a failure. I assume I can split the tables in this schema out to another data file or such (ideally even on another drive for faster reads), but is there a way to never have that data file backup, yet still in the event of a failure its structure could be restored (and other DDL stuff like procs, views, etc)? Somewhat related, can I also have these tables not do transaction logging, if I go to "Full" backup mode for the rest of the database?

  I use winforms to develop a desktop application, and right now I plan to use SQL server express, but the problem is, if i use sql server express, then the installation is much trouble, i need to install sql server first, and install my own applicaiton. Then I tried to use access 2003 as my database, then I only need to copy the mdb file with my application. But the access 's function is not that strong, the text length is limited to 255 byte. Is there any other database solution, which is easy to integrate to my application, and easy to install after i develop my application ? Many many desktop application have their own database, and easy to install and easy to use, what database do they use ?

  I have a wrapper class for the Bitmap .NET class called BitmapZone. Assuming we have a WIDTH x HEIGHT bitmap picture, this wrapper class should serve the purpose of allowing me to send to other methods/classes itself instead of the original bitmap. I can then better control what the user is or not allowed to do with the picture (and I don't have to copy the bitmap lots of times to send for each method/class). My question is: knowing that all BitmapZone's are created from a Bitmap, what do you find preferrable? Constructor syntax: something like BitmapZone bitmapZone = new BitmapZone(originalBitmap, x, y, width, height); Factory Method Pattern: BitmapZone bitmapZone = BitmapZone.From(originalBitmap, x , y, width, height); Factory Method Pattern: BitmapZone bitmapZone = BitmapZone.FromBitmap(originalBitmap, x, y, width, height); Other?   Hi I have an email form that isn't sending out an email to the recipient or a copy to the client. The form can be found at www.kelcos.co.uk/contact and the files associated with this are: /index.php /jquery.js /sendemail.php /submitform.php /thanks.php /verify.php I have used this form on other websites http://www.bowlesgreen.co.uk/contact/ and http://www.arbortectreecare.co.uk/contact/ and it works fine - the only difference is that these other sites use my usual hosting provider and for the one that won't send I'm working through the clients hosting provider, which I can only presume is what is causing the problem. I have contacted the hosting and so far we have eliminated a few things such as: 'The limitation to our systems is that the emails sent using scripts will be blocked if they are not going to or coming from an email address setup on the web hosting account. - so I am now sending the form to an a kelcos.co.uk address, but still no joy. PHP/ASP was originally disabled, but now has been activated the mail() script is enabled I would really appreciated any advise any of you could offer. Thanks

• Can An Assembly Be Installed In The GAC but not Show Up In Gacutil.exe?

  I've got an application where some assemblies are copied to C:\Windows\assembly upon deployment under the assumption that this installs them in the GAC. The application seems to work but when I run gacutil.exe on the copied assemblies, it says the Global Assembly Cache contains 0 assemblies. Should all assemblies in c:\Windows\assembly show up in gacutil? If not, why not? How can I verify that the assembly is in fact installed in the GAC? I have always used gacutil.exe in the past to register assemblies so doing a file copy is new to me and I'm trying to understand the ramifications.
