• Ways to support manually executed tests? (that can be used on a Mac)

  Are there any tools that can be used on a Mac to support manually executed tests? I have a number of tests that I'm executing manually and which I'm currently documenting using merely a plain text file. "Tools" can be interpreted rather loosely here, anything that's a step up from the plain text file would be useful: a template for some suitable application, supporting AppleScript scripts, a web-based system, a full-blown application ... Some things that would be great to have better support for (see also the example below): Checking off each step while you're manually executing the test. Showing the next step(s) in a small window that is always kept in front of all other windows. Automatically updating the 'last tested' and 'using svn revision' info. Keeping a record of all previous testing rounds (not just the last one). ... Any suggestions for any such "tools" that can be used on a Mac? An example (faked) entry from the plain text file to give you a better idea of what I'm looking for: - Check that exported web pages render properly in Safari. Last tested: 2010-03-24 Using SVN revision: 1000 Steps: - Open a new document. - Add some items to the document. - Export the document to a web page "Test.html" in a new folder "Export Test" on the Desktop. - Open the web page in Safari, script: tell application "Finder" open file "Test.html" of folder "Export Test" of desktop end tell Expected results: - The web page should appear properly with all items shown. Clean up steps: - Remove the folder "Export Test" from the Desktop. ( Note: for those unaware, the snippet of AppleScript in the above can be executed from most text editing applications through the Services menu by selecting the snippet and using: the application menu Services Script Editor Run as AppleScript. This is quite useful to automate some steps for tests that are difficult to automate as a whole. )

• What CSS do I need to make my site more responsive?

  My site is: http://library.skybundle.com I feel like I almost have a responsive site. I did all the CSS styling myself. It is a Wordpress site but I completely edited the CSS of the original theme, so it is night-and-day different than it used to be. The original theme was mostly just for a canvas for me to work with, since I am not an expert in PHP and we wanted a Wordpress site for easy editing later on. Thanks to stackoverflow, I now have a footer that sticks to the bottom of every page and everything mostly looks good -- the way we want it anyway. The only thing missing now is the we want browser windows on MOBILE devices, such as on an iPhone, to automatically adjust the layout of the content in the body (wrapper). For example, on the main page (library.skybundle.com), I would like those two big icons two become vertically aligned as soon as the browser window sizes to a small, mostly vertical size, like that of a mobile phone. Take this site, for example: http://freedomsoundproductions.securesb.net/ This is what we would like it to do. So one a page with a sidebar, the content to the right of the sidebar should basically jump into the same "column" as the left sidebar and form one single long column. Just like in the example site above. This should all be possible via CSS. People in other forums seem to want me to use jQuery and stuff, but I can only use CSS, and I know that this must be possible without having to resort to jQuery, HTML, or other code.

• __declspec(dllimport) causes compiler crash on MSVC 2010

  In a *.cpp file, trying to use a third party lib: #define DLL_IMPORT #include <thirdParty.h> // Third party header has code like: // #ifdef DLL_IMPORT // #define DLL_DECL __declspec(dllimport) // fatal error C1001: An internal error has occurred in the compiler. Alternative: #define NO_DLL #include <thirdParty.h> // Third party header has code like: // #elif defined(NO_DLL) // #define DLL_DECL // Compiles fine, but linker errors as can't find DLL functions // I can reproduce results by remove macros and #define all together and manually editing the third party files to have __declspec(dllimport) or not Has anyone come across anything similar, or can hint at the cause? (which is created using CMake). Above is actual example of 2 line *.cpp that crashes so it's narrowed down to something in the #include. The following also work fine: Compile the examples provided by the third party (they provide a *.sln) that use dllimport/export so it doesn't appear to be the fault of the library Compile the third party lib as part of the production project (so dllexport works fine) I've trawled the project settings pages of the two projects to try and spot differences, but have come up blank. Of course, it's possible I'm missing something as those settings pages are not the easiest to navigate. I'll get access to VS2008 in a day or so, so can compare with that. The third party library is MySql++.

• Strange behaviour of DataTable with DataGridView

  Please explain me what is happening. I have created a WinForms .NET application which has DataGridView on a form and should update database when DataGridView inline editing is used. Form has SqlDataAdapter _da with four SqlCommands bound to it. DataGridView is bound directly to DataTable _names. Such a CellValueChanged handler: private void dataGridView1_CellValueChanged(object sender, DataGridViewCellEventArgs e) { _da.Update(_names); } does not update database state although _names DataTable is updated. All the rows of _names have RowState == DataRowState.Unchanged Ok, I modified the handler: private void dataGridView1_CellValueChanged(object sender, DataGridViewCellEventArgs e) { DataRow row = _names.Rows[e.RowIndex]; row.BeginEdit(); row.EndEdit(); _da.Update(_names); } this variant really writes modified cell to database, but when I attempt to insert new row into grid, I get an error about an absence of row with index e.RowIndex So, I decided to improve the handler further: private void dataGridView1_CellValueChanged(object sender, DataGridViewCellEventArgs e) { if (_names.Rows.Count<e.RowIndex) { DataRow row = _names.Rows[e.RowIndex]; row.BeginEdit(); row.EndEdit(); } else { DataRow row = _names.NewRow(); row["NameText"] = dataGridView1["NameText", e.RowIndex].Value; _names.Rows.Add(row); } _da.Update(_names); } Now the really strange things happen when I insert new row to grid: the grid remains what it was until _names.Rows.Add(row); After this line THREE rows are inserted into table - two rows with the same value and one with Null value. The slightly modified code: DataRow row = _names.NewRow(); row["NameText"] = "--------------" _names.Rows.Add(row); inserts three rows with three different values: one as entered into the grid, the second with "--------------" value and third - with Null value. I really got stuck in guessing what is happening.

• Text replacement for multiple script/config files

  I am doing some sort of science with a combination of Python, bash scripts and configuration files with weird syntaxes from old C programs. To run different tests, I have to tune (open text file, edit and save) a number of these files, but it is getting harder and harder to remember which files to edit. Also, the tasks are very repetitive and I end having a bunch of comment lines, switching on and off the settings for a specific run. I dream of a tool that can keep a list of files (regardless of the file format) and allow me to centrally choose from a predefined list of "profiles", taking care of editing the script/config files. For example lets say I have a config and script file: config.cfg var1 = 1.0 #var1 = 1.5 script.sct function(200.0) #function(300.0) I would like to instead have auxiliary text files: config.cfg.tem var1 = $$var1$$ script.sct.tem function($$par1$$) and in a central script or even better, a GUI, just switch from profile1 (e.g. var1=1.0,par1=200.0) to profile2 (e.g. var1=1.5,par1=300.0), and the tool to automatically update the text files. Any idea if such a tools exists?

• OCR combined with font recognition?

  I have a bold idea where a user could take an image like the following and in a few seconds of processing, be able to edit a document which looks roughly the same. The software would use WhatTheFont (or something similar) to recognize the fonts used, and OCR and other software to handle the font size, color, line-spacing, and of course the text content itself. In the case of the example image, there would be three separate "textboxes" produced, each starting at the upper left corner of the text, and extending as far to the bottom right as it could before running into another text box. So the user would then see something like this: (The rectangles are just used to show the boundaries of each textbox.) From here, the user would be able to edit the text in each of these boxes to create a new document. Of course there are tons of obvious uses for such an application, especially on a mobile phone with a built in camera. So my questions are the following: I doubt the answer is yes, but does anything do this already? If I'm going to try to build this, what should I write it in? Can I use Python? What would be the best OCR libraries to start with? Is there a service other than WhatTheFont for font recognition that has better API support? Anybody want to help me build it? :) etc. etc. Update: One thing I wanted to mention (but forgot) is I would also like the background to be preserved. In other words, if the example above had an image behind the text, I'd like the document to use that image with text removed. I know this complicates things a lot because that would require some image editing techniques too (something akin to Photoshop CS5' "content-aware fill"). But if we can solve diminished reality on iPhones, I think we can figure this out!

  im trying to understand the process of creating tables in ruby-on-rails 3. i have read about migrations. so i am supposed to create tables by editing in the files in: Database Migrations/migrate/20100611214419_create_posts Database Migrations/migrate/20100611214419_create_categories but they were generated by: rails generate model Post name:string description:text rails generate model Category name:string description:text does this mean i have to use "rails generate model" command everytime i want to create a table? what if i create a migration file but want to add columns. do i create another migration file for adding those or do i edit the existing migration file directly? the guide told me to add a new one, but here is the part i dont understand. why would i add a new one? cause then the new state will be dependent of 2 migration files. in symfony i just edit a schema.yml file directly, there are no migration files with versioning and so on. im new to RoR and want to get the picture of creating tables. thanks

• Android - How to circular zoom/magnify part of image?

  I am trying to allow the user to touch the image and then basically a cirular magnifier will show that will allow the user to better select a certain area on the image. When the user releases the touch the magnified portion will dissapear. This is used on several photo editing apps and I am trying to implement my own version of it. The code I have below does magnify a circular portion of the imageview but does not delete or clear the zoom once I release my finger. I currently set a bitmap to a canvas using canvas = new Canvas(bitMap); and then set the imageview using takenPhoto.setImageBitmap(bitMap); I am not sure if I am going about it the right way. • what are good ways to implement search and search results using ajax?

  i have some text box in a page and in the same page there will be a table 'grid' like for holding the search result. When the user start editing and of the textbox above, the search must start by sending all textboxs values to the server 'ajax', and get back with the results to fill the below grid. Notes: This grid should support paging, sorting by clicking on headers and it will contains some controls beside the results such as checkboxs for boolean values and links for opening details in another page. I know many ways to do this some of them are: 1- updatepanel around all of these controls and thats it "fast dirty solution" 2- send the search criteria using ajax request using JQuery post function for example and get back the JSON result, and using a template will draw the grid "clean but will take time to finish and will be harder to edit later". 3- .... My question is: What do you think will be the best choice to implement this scenario? because i face this scenario too much, and want to know which implementation will be better regarding performance, optimization, and time to finish. I just want to know your thoughts about this issue.

• What is the "un-tab" sequence in (g)Vim?

  This is an annoyance I've had for a long time. (Nitpicky section: I prefer 4 space characters to tab characters. It's a lot easier to type "tab" instead of explaining that. When I say "tab", I mean "the action that happens when you press the tab key" which is probably more simply stated as "increase indentation".) I'm using smartindent while editing a document where indentation has some significance. In "dumb" windows text editors I can press Shift+Tab to remove a tab or, more appropriately, decrease the indentation level of the current line. I can't figure out how to do this from edit mode in Vim; Shift+Tab seems to count just the same as Tab. I know in Command mode << will decrease indentation. I want the equivalent in edit mode. These are the solutions I've found so far and why I don't like them, one in particular may be the key to the answer. Use Notepad++ or some other dumb editor. I've done this for a couple of years but I really miss Vim. Exit edit mode, use <<, enter edit mode. This just puts the cursor at column 0; if I wanted this I wouldn't have tried smartindent. Stop using smartindent. I don't decrease indent as often as I need to keep the same indent level; this would be a loss of productivity. The left arrow key seems to decrease the indent by one level. I'd rather something I can do without leaving the home row. This is the most promising choice. Maybe there's an option I can set? Maybe I can rebind left arrow to something? (If it requires rebinding please explain in detail; I've never delved into reconfiguring (g)Vim.

• Fast compiler error messages in Eclipse

  As a new Eclipse user, I am constantly annoyed by how long it takes compiler error messages to display. This is mostly only a problem for long errors that don't fit in the status bar or the "Problems" tab. But I get enough long errors in Java—especially with generics—that this is a nagging issue. (Note: The correct answer to this question is not "get better at using generics." ;-) The ways I have found to display an error are: Press Ctrl+. or execute the command "Next Annotation". The next error is highlighted and its associated message appears in the status bar (if it is short enough). The error is also highlighted in the "Problems" tab, if it is open, but the tab is not automatically brought to the top. Hover the mouse over the error. After a noticeable lag, the error message appears as a "tool tip", along with any associated "Quick Fixes." Hover the mouse over the error icon on the left side of the editing pane. After a noticeable lag, all of the error messages for that line appear as a "tool tip." Clicking on the icon brings up "Quick Fixes." What I would like is for Ctrl+. to automatically and instantly bring up the complete error message (I don't care where). Is this a configurable option? [UPDATE] @asterite's "Ctrl+. F2" is almost it. How do I make "Next Annotation, then Show Tooltip Description" a macro bound to a single keystroke?

• OOP + MVC advice on Member Controller

  Hi, I am trying to follow good practices as much as possible while I'm learning using OOP in an MVC structure, so i'm turning to you guys for a bit of advice on something which is bothering me a little here. I am writing a site where I will have a number of different forms for members to fill in (mainly data about themselves), so i've decided to set up a Member controller where all of the forms relating to the member are represented as individual methods. This includes login/logout methods, as well as editing profile data etc. In addition to these methods, i also have a method to generate the member's control panel widget, which is a constant on every page on the site while the member is logged in. The only thing is, all of the other methods in this controller all have the same dependencies and form templates, so it would be great to generate all this in the constructor, but as the control_panel method does not have the same dependencies etc, I cannot use the constructor for this purpose, and instead I have to redeclare the dependencies and same template snippets in each method. This obviously isn't ideal and doesn't follow DRY principle, but I'm wondering what I should do with the control_panel method, as it is related to the member and that's why I put it in that controller in the first place. Am I just over-complicating things here and does it make sense to just move the control_panel method into a simple helper class? • Is MySQL caching occurring, how to fix it?

  I think that MySQL or ASP.NET is caching my queries. I edited my MySQL sproc to remove some parameters but it keeps saying that those parameters are missing. Here is what happens: ASP.NET app calls a MySQL stored procedure. Everything works perfect. I delete some parameters from the sproc and ASP.NET parameter list accordingly. All parameters exactly match in case and order from the new ASP.NET and MySQL sproc code Upon execution, it fails, saying : System.ArgumentException: Parameter 'deleted_parameter_foo_bar' not found in the collection. at MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlParameterCollection ... I delete the sproc from the database, restart my browser, and reexecute the ASP.NET page. It says the same error, that the parameter is missing - but the sproc itself doesn't exist anymore. ( I know 100% that I am editing/deleting from the right database. ) How do I fix this or make it work again; I want it to use my new sproc instead of the old one ? _o

  I am having issues with a port scanner I'm editing to use threads. • Change Default Winform Icon Across Entire App

  Can I change the default icon used on a Winform? Most of my forms have their icon property set to a custom icon. For the few forms that slip through the cracks, I don't want the generic "hey look, he made this in visual studio" icon. One solution is to tediously check every one of my forms to make sure they either have a custom icon set or have ShowIcon set to False. Another solution is to have every one of my forms inherit from a base class that sets a custom icon in the constructor. Aside from those solutions, what other options do I have? EDIT: I was hoping there would be a way to replace the source of the stock icon with my own. Is it in a resource file somewhere? Or is it embedded in a .NET dll that I can't (or really, really shouldn't) modify? BOUNTY EDIT: Is there a way to accomplish this without editing or writing a single line of code? I don't care how impractical, complicated, waste-of-time the solution is... I just want to know if it's possible. I need to satisfy my curiosity.

• How to make Finder 'Open With' work for my application (XCode, OS X)?

  I have created an application that is capable of playing audio files. This in itself works fine, and so does drag&drop from finder to my application. What I would like as well, is that people can use my application from Finder using the Open With menu (or even allow them to set my application as default for a certain file type) After a lot of searching, I found that I should configure a document type in XCode (Editing information property lists) I successfully added such a type named 'Music File', with UTI 'public.mp3' When I now right-click an MP3 file, my application is listed in the 'Open With' menu. Trying to use it, my app opens, but I get a warning message saying "The document could not be opened. App cannot open files in the 'Music File' format" It doesn't appear to be passed through the command line as is the case in Windows. My application does support drag&drop from Finder, and this is working fine too. I don't really know where to look next, so it would be great if anyone could point me in the right direction. My application isn't using NSDocument, so the 'Class' field doesn't apply for me I think (and according to the docs this field isn't required, but it doesn't say how to handle it without a Class)

  I'm editing multiple instances of a parent model in an index view in one form, as in Railscasts #198. Each parent has_many :children and accepts_nested_attributes_for :children, as in Railscasts #196 and #197 <%= form_tag %> <% for parent in @parents %> <%= fields_for "parents[]", parent do |f| <%= f.text_field :job %> <%= f.fields_for :children do |cf| %> <% cf.text_field :chore %> <% end %> <% end %> <% end %> <% end %> Given parent.id==1 f.text_field :job correctly generates <input id="parents_1_job" type="text" value="coding" size="30" name="parents[1][job]"> But cf.text_field :chore generates ids and names that don't have the parent index. id="parents_children_attributes_0_chore" name="parents[children_attributes][0][chore]" If I try passing the specific child object to f.fields_for like this: <% for child in parent.children %> <%= f.fields_for :children, child do |cf| %> <%= cf.text_field :chore %> <% end %> <% end %> I get the same. If I change the method from :children to "[]children" I get id="parents_1___children_chore" which gets the right parent_index but doesn't provide an array slot for the child index. "[]children[]" isn't right either: id="parents_1__children_3_chore" as I was expecting attributes_0_chore instead of 3_chore. Do I need to directly modify an attribute of the FormBuilder object, or subclass FormBuilder to make this work, or is there a syntax that fits this situation? Thanks for any thoughts.

• Using Oracle Proxy Authentication with JPA (eclipselink-Style)

  Security is a very intriguing topic. You will find it everywhere and you need to implement it everywhere. Yes, you need. Unfortunately, one can easily forget it while implementing the last mile. The Last Mile In a multi-tier application it is a common practice to use connection pools between the business layer and the database layer. Connection pools are quite useful to speed database connection creation and to split the load. Another very common practice is to use a specific, often called technical, user to connect to the database. This user has authentication and authorization rules that apply to all application users. Imagine you've put every effort to define roles for different types of users that use your application. These roles are necessary to differentiate between normal users, premium users, and administrators (I bet you will find or already have more roles in your application). While these user roles are pretty well used within your application, once the flow of execution enters the database everything is gone. Each and every user just has one role and is the same database user. Issues? What Issues? As long as things go well, this is not a real issue. However, things do not go well all the time. Once your application becomes famous performance decreases in certain situations or, more importantly, current and upcoming regulations and laws require that your application must be able to apply different security measures on a per user role basis at every stage of your application. If you only have a bunch of users with the same name and role you are not able to find the application usage profile that causes the performance issue, or which user has accessed data that he/she is not allowed to. Another thread to your role concept is that databases tend to be used by different applications and tools. These tools can be developer tools like SQL*Plus, SQL Developer, etc. or end user applications like BI Publisher, Oracle Forms and so on. These tools have no idea of your applications role concept and access the database the way they think is appropriate. A big oversight for your perfect role model and a big nightmare for your Chief Security Officer. Speaking of the CSO, brings up another issue: Password management. Once your technical user account is compromised, every user is able to do things that he/she is not expected to do from the design of your application. Counter Measures In the Oracle world a common counter measure is to use Virtual Private Database (VPD). This restricts the values a database user can see to the allowed minimum. However, it doesn't help in regard of a connection pool user, because this one is still not the real user. Oracle Proxy Authentication Another feature of the Oracle database is Proxy Authentication. First introduced with version 9i it is a quite useful feature for nearly every situation. The main idea behind Proxy Authentication is, to create a crippled database user who has only connect rights. Even if this user is compromised the risks are well understood and fairly limited. This user can be used in every situation in which you need to connect to the database, no matter which tool or application (see above) you use.The proxy user is perfect for multi-tier connection pools. CREATE USER app_user IDENTIFIED BY abcd1234; GRANT CREATE SESSION TO app_user; But what if you need to access real data? Well, this is the primary use case, isn't it? Now is the time to bring the application's role concept into play. You define database roles that define the grants for your identified user groups. Once you have these groups you grant access through the proxy user with the application role to the specific user. CREATE ROLE app_role_a; GRANT app_role_a TO scott; ALTER USER scott GRANT CONNECT THROUGH app_user WITH ROLE app_role_a; Now, hr has permission to connect to the database through the proxy user. Through the role you can restrict the hr's rights the are needed for the application only. If hr connects to the database directly all assigned role and permissions apply. Testing the Setup To test the setup you can use SQL*Plus and connect to your database: $ sqlplus app_user[hr]/abcd1234 Java Persistence API The Java Persistence API (JPA) is a fairly easy means to build applications that retrieve data from the database and put it into Java objects. You use plain old Java objects (POJOs) and mixin some Java annotations that define how the attributes of the object are used for storing data from the database into the Java object. Here is a sample for objects from the HR sample schema EMPLOYEES table. When using Java annotations you only specify what can not be deduced from the code. • UAT Testing for SOA 10G Clusters

  A lot of customers ask how to verify their SOA clusters and make them production ready. Test Case 1 Check if you can see AS instances in the console Implementation 1. Log on to the AS Console --> check to see if you can see all the nodes in your AS cluster. You should be able to see all the Oracle AS instances that are part of the cluster. This means that the OPMN clustering worked and the AS instances successfully joined the AS cluster. Result You should be able to see if all the instances in the AS cluster are listed in the EM console. If the instances are not listed here are the files to check to see if OPMN joined the cluster properly: $ORACLE_HOME\opmn\logs{*}opmn.log*$ORACLE_HOME\opmn\logs{*}opmn.dbg* If OPMN did not join the cluster properly, please check the opmn.xml file to make sure the discovery multicast address and port are correct (see this link  for opmn documentation). Restart the whole instance using opmnctl stopall followed by opmnctl startall. Log on to AS console to see if instance is listed as part of the cluster. Test Case 2 Check to see if you can start/stop each component Implementation Check each OC4J component on each AS instanceStart each and every component through the AS console to see if they will start and stop.Do that for each and every instance. Result Each component should start and stop through the AS console. You can also verify if the component started by checking opmnctl status by logging onto each box associated with the cluster Test Case 3 Add/modify a datasource entry through AS console on a remote AS instance (not on the instance where EM is physically running) Implementation Pick an OC4J instanceCreate a new data-source through the AS consoleModify an existing data-source or connection pool (optional) Result Open $ORACLE_HOME\j2ee\<oc4j_name>\config\data-sources.xml to see if the new (and or the modified) connection details and data-source exist. If they do then the AS console has successfully updated a remote file and MBeans are communicating correctly. Test Case 4 Start and stop AS instances using opmnctl @cluster command Implementation 1. Go to $ORACLE_HOME\opmn\bin and use the opmnctl @cluster to start and stop the AS instances Result Use opmnctl @cluster status to check for start and stop statuses.  HTTP server test cases This section will deal with use cases to test HTTP server failover scenarios. In these examples the HTTP server will be talking to the BPEL console (or any other web application that the client wants), so the URL will be _http://hostname:port\BPELConsole Test Case 1  Shut down one of the HTTP servers while accessing the BPEL console and see the requested routed to the second HTTP server in the cluster Implementation Access the BPELConsoleCheck $ORACLE_HOME\Apache\Apache\logs\access_log --> check for the timestamp and the URL that was accessed by the user. Timestamp and URL would look like this 1xx.2x.2xx.xxx [24/Mar/2009:16:04:38 -0500] "GET /BPELConsole=System HTTP/1.1" 200 15 After you have figured out which HTTP server this is running on, shut down this HTTP server by using opmnctl stopproc --> this is a graceful shutdown.Access the BPELConsole again (please note that you should have a LoadBalancer in front of the HTTP server and configured the Apache Virtual Host, see EDG for steps)Check $ORACLE_HOME\Apache\Apache\logs\access_log --> check for the timestamp and the URL that was accessed by the user. Timestamp and URL would look like above Result Even though you are shutting down the HTTP server the request is routed to the surviving HTTP server, which is then able to route the request to the BPEL Console and you are able to access the console. By checking the access log file you can confirm that the request is being picked up by the surviving node. Test Case 2 Repeat the same test as above but instead of calling opmnctl stopproc, pull the network cord of one of the HTTP servers, so that the LBR routes the request to the surviving HTTP node --> this is simulating a network failure. Test Case 3 In test case 1 we have simulated a graceful shutdown, in this case we will simulate an Apache crash Implementation Use opmnctl status -l to get the PID of the HTTP server that you would like forcefully bring downOn Linux use kill -9 <PID> to kill the HTTP serverAccess the BPEL console Result As you shut down the HTTP server, OPMN will restart the HTTP server. The restart may be so quick that the LBR may still route the request to the same server. One way to check if the HTTP server restared is to check the new PID and the timestamp in the access log for the BPEL console. BPEL test cases This section is going to cover scenarios dealing with BPEL clustering using jGroups, BPEL deployment and testing related to BPEL failover. Test Case 1 Verify that jGroups has initialized correctly. There is no real testing in this use case just a visual verification by looking at log files that jGroups has initialized correctly. Check the opmn log for the BPEL container for all nodes at $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs/<group name><container name><group name>~1.log. This logfile will contain jGroups related information during startup and steady-state operation. Test Case 2  Test connectivity between BPEL Nodes Implementation Test connections between different cluster nodes using ping, telnet, and traceroute. The presence of firewalls and number of hops between cluster nodes can affect performance as they have a tendency to take down connections after some time or simply block them.Also reference Metalink Note 413783.1: "How to Test Whether Multicast is Enabled on the Network." Result Using the above tools you can confirm if Multicast is working  and whether BPEL nodes are commnunicating. Test Case3 Test deployment of BPEL suitcase to one BPEL node.  Implementation Deploy a HelloWorrld BPEL suitcase (or any other client specific BPEL suitcase) to only one BPEL instance using ant, or JDeveloper or via the BPEL consoleLog on to the second BPEL console to check if the BPEL suitcase has been deployed Result If jGroups has been configured and communicating correctly, BPEL clustering will allow you to deploy a suitcase to a single node, and jGroups will notify the second instance of the deployment. The second BPEL instance will go to the DB and pick up the new deployment after receiving notification. The result is that the new deployment will be "deployed" to each node, by only deploying to a single BPEL instance in the BPEL cluster. Test Case 4  Test to see if the BPEL server failsover and if all asynch processes are picked up by the secondary BPEL instance Implementation Deploy a 2 Asynch process: A ParentAsynch Process which calls a ChildAsynchProcess with a variable telling it how many times to loop or how many seconds to sleepA ChildAsynchProcess that loops or sleeps or has an onAlarmMake sure that the processes are deployed to both serversShut down one BPEL serverOn the active BPEL server call ParentAsynch a few times (use the load generation page)When you have enough ParentAsynch instances shut down this BPEL instance and start the other one.
