  Hi, BACKGROUND - I have a synchroisation function within my MainForm class. It gets called manually when the user pushes the SYNC button. I want to also call this synchroisation function when the scheduler triggers too, so effectively want SchedulerJob:IJob.Execute() method to be able to call it. QUESTION - How do I access the MainForm.Sychronization() method from within the SchedulerJob:IJob.Execute() method? I tried creating a delegate for this method in the MainForm class and getting it added via jobDetail.JobDataMap. • Ubuntu 10.04: unable to login after fresh install

  Hello All, I,ve just installed a fresh copy of Ubunutu 10.04, downloaded a couple of days ago. The installation seemed to go fine. However I can't log in: the login screen just seems to reset and asks me for my password again. It's not an authentication / incorrect password issue. If I stick in a wrong password, I get "Authentication failure". I've googled around, others report the same issue on the Ubuntu forums, but there doesn't seem to be a fix. Does anyone know of a work around or what the problem is? Have 9.10, I might end up just installing that instead. THanks

• Why FreeBSD won't reboot after kernel crash?

  Once in a while I get my server running FreeBSD 8.0 amd64 fail due to bad memory (incompatible with motherboard) modules. Each time it happens, the box stalls with the last note saying that it will automatically reboot in 15 second, but it never does. How do I fix this? I need computer to reboot after kernel crash, unattended. (Please do not recommend to replace memory, as soon as I get the modules, I will, but I need a quicker solution that will not require me to stand still next to the box just to press the reset button each time it crashes.)

  To this SO question: What is the C# equivalent of friend?, I would personally have answered "internal", just like Ja did among the answers! However, Jon Skeet says that there is no direct equivalence of VB Friend in C#. If Jon Skeet says so, I won't be the one telling otherwise! ;P I'm wondering how can the keyword internal (C#) not be the equivalent of Friend (VBNET) when their respective definitions are: Friend VBNET The Friend (Visual Basic) keyword in the declaration statement specifies that the elements can be accessed from within the same assembly, but not from outside the assembly. [...] internal C# Internal: Access is limited to the current assembly. To my understanding, these definitions mean quite the same to me. Then, respectively, when I'm coding in VB.NET, I use the Friend keyword to specify that a class or a property shall be accessible only within the assembly where it is declared. The same in C#, I use the internal keyword to specify the same. Am I doing something or anything wrong from this perspective? What are the refinements I don't get? Might someone please explain how or in what Friend and internal are not direct equivalences? Thanks in advance for any of your answers!

• Can't connect Alienware M11x wireless to internet thru families router

  Morning All, Have an Alienware M11x loaded with Win 7 Premium with the Dell half card wifi. Also have a Netgear and Belkin USB external adapters (b/g and N to include dual radios. No joy either. Families Internet is served thru Charter and they use a Motorola Router. No matter if we reset the router, I cannot connect to the Net but can talk to the router. BTW... my brother only uses WEP as a number of connected items are old and my folks are not in a high threat area for attacks. Frustrated, as I know what I'm doing but this really has me stumped. Any thoughts? Much appreciated, Jim

• Restoring permissions on Windows 2008

  I have played with folder permissions due to SVN not being able to write to a folder and now I got into a state where I go to any folder of C: drive in Windows Explorer and when I right-click it takes 30 seconds to show the context menu and it just hangs the window after that. It definitely has something to do with permissions as it was all working fine until I started tweaking permissions about an hour ago. My login belongs to two groups Users and Administrators. I changed ownership of C drive to Administrators group and I think it screwed everything, but I can't change it back because I don't even remember what it was :) Oh, and only Administrators group has access to drive C now. Any way to reset permissions to some previous state or some workable state?

• Single intent to let user take picture OR pick image from gallery in Android

  I'm developing an app for Android 2.1 upwards. I want to enable my users to select a profile picture within my app (I'm not using the contacts framework). The ideal solution would be to fire an intent that enables the user to select an image from the gallery, but if an appropriate image is not available then use the camera to take a picture (or vice-versa i.e. allow user to take picture but if they know they already have a suitable image already, let them drop into the gallery and pick said image). Currently I can do one or the other but not both. If I go directly into camera mode using MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE then there is no option to drop into the gallery. If I go directly to the gallery using Intent.ACTION_PICK then I can pick an image but if I click the camera button (in top right hand corner of gallery) then a new camera intent is fired. So, any picture that is taken is not returned directly to my application. (Sure you can press the back button to drop back into the gallery and select image from there but this is an extra unnecessary step and is not at all intuitive). So is there a way to combine both or am I going to have to offer a menu to do one or the other from within my application? Seems like it would be a common use case...surely I'm missing something?

• Facebook doesn't work on computer, but work on mobile device, both use the same router

  I have a very strange problem and I'm thinking that can be problem with dns or something similar, but not sure and don't know how to solve. My computer is connected to router and every site works fine except facebook (Chrome and Firefox). Chrome shows "Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset." But, on mobile device witch is connected to the same router facebook works fine (Fb application and Delphin browser). Pinging facebook works fine. Clearing cookies and cache didn't help. Also, I performed antivirus and antimalware scan and there is nothing. What can be a problem?   I am running a Debian virtual server with Apache, PHP, MySQL. There is just 1 website with very low traffic running but the server very often (almost everyday) freezes and does not respond. When this happens the server is unreachable from web browser or by SSH and I have to go to administration of my provider and perform server hard reset after this the server seems to work fine. Now given a point p. How do I determine in which triangle p lies, given that p is within the outer triangle (a, b, c)? Currently I intend to use ab as the origin. Check whether it is to the left of right of the line "ca - ab" using the perp of "ca - ab" and checking the sign against the dot product of "ab - a" and the perp vector and the vector "p - ab". If it is the same or the dot product is zero then it must be in (a, ab, ca)... Continue with this procedure with the other outer triangles (b, ba, ab) & (c, ca, ba). In the end if it didn't match with these it must be contained within the inner triangle (ab, bc, ca). Is there a better way to do it?

• How can I get black window borders in Windows 8?

  In Windows 8, when I go into Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization\Window Color and Appearance the amount of control over window colors is greatly reduced as compared to Windows 7. The color controls do not allow you to make Window borders display in black. Is there some other way to set the window border color in Windows 8? Edit 1: Clearly the standard way does not work in Windows 8. The question is, is there another way? Perhaps through the registry for example? Edit 2: I tried copying the values in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM from my Win7 system to the Win8 system without success (killing the 2 DWM processes after each change - they are automatically restarted and do use the new values).

• Trying to find a PHP5 API-based embeddable CMS

  I've been making the rounds for a CMS that I can use as an API, in a sort of "embedded" mode. I mean by this that I don't want the CMS to do any logic or presentation. I want it to be used as an API, which I can then use within an existing site. I don't want to be tied to the architecture of the CMS. A good example of this is NC-CMS (http://www.nconsulting.ca/nc-cms/). All it needs is an include at the top, then wherever editable content is desired it's only a function call with a unique label. It's also perfect in the sense that it allows to differentiate between small strings (like titles, labels) and texts (which require a rich-text editor). It's the only CMS I found that fits this description, but it is a little too light as it does not handle site structure. I need to be able to allow my client to add pages, choosing an existing template for the layout. A minimal back-end is required. Wordpress also fits some requirements in that it handles only content editing and allows freedom for the themes by letting them call the content where and how they want it. But it is article-based and backwards, in that it embeds sites (as themes) within its structure, rather than being embeddable in sites like NC. It's funny how checking out all the CMS out there, almost all of them claim that most CMS are not self-sufficient, that they do not handle application logic, while (almost) every single on I found with only one exception do so. Many are mostly article-based blog engines, which does not fit my need. I would appreciate any CMS that fits the general description.

• Suggestions on implementing an iPad magazine app

  I've been tasked with creating a magazine style app for iPad. Ideally it would look a little something like the Zinio app: http://www.zinio.com/ipad/ . This app is effectively a shell, allowing you to sample magazines (eg. read the first few pages) and select them for download. The magazines appear to have some sort of overlay, allowing you to interact with some things (eg. tap to watch a video). A few questions that come to mind: How would I go about delivering content to the user? In-app purchases aren't really an option, as some content will need to be delivered for free. Is it possible to download a package and make this available within the application? What format would be suitable for displaying the magazine? Sequential images, PDF, ebook? I'll need to have some form of interactivity. I guess I could have some form of lookup table, which would include information such as if the user taps on this page, within these coordinates, then launch this item. Anyone dealt with any similar issues?

  Is it possible to have a custom type within a custom type and have the result returned via WCF RIA services? I have the following two classes below, but I can't gain access to the Verticies property within the Polygon class. I assume it is because it is a custom class, or something to do with it being a List collection. • Allow READ access to local folders in 2003SBS AD

  Have a SBS2003 client with a mess of a domain that is in process of being cleaned. But, for the life of me I cannot find a setting that will allow write access to the local hard disk for domain users with redirected profiles(to the server). This is needed only for one program that will not follow a symbolic link to the network path, instead it seems to be hard coded to the %appdata% folder but only on the c: drive.... So question is how can I allow "Domain users" write access to the local %appdata% directory? I have tried setting it manually on a machine but it kept resetting to RO no matter how many times I tried. Everytime I would uncheck the RO property it would reset sometime right after i hit OK. • Create Virtual Image of Laptop before Formatting

  I have a 3 year old laptop running Windows XP that I used for business. Although I have not used the laptop in over a year, I now want to re-commission it with Windows 7 and a fresh install. Before I do the fresh install I want to create a Virtual Image of the laptop that I can keep and potentially run on my desktop machine should I ever need to access any of the old files/projects that it contains currently. I know that most people will say just copy the files over to your desktop, but my concern is the configuration of the laptop. I used to use it for development and it has older versions of Visual Studio, SQL Server, Active X controls etc, etc than I currently use so I really want to preserve the environment not just the files. So really I am asking what is the best tool-set/method to achieve this? I understand there are free VM tools available but I have never done this before and would appreciate any help.

• Screen resolution of monitor is wrong every time I turn the computer on?

  Hi, Im just wondering if there is a solution to my weird problem. Every time I turn on my PC the viewport isn't aligned correctly on the screen - there is always a black strip on the right hand side. This is not a big issue as it can be resolved by pressing the menu button on the screen and doing a factory reset. However it is irritating having to do it every time. The weird thing it never used to happen before with the tower Im using. Is potentially out of date drivers a problem? Thanks.

• Validating collection elements in WPF

  I would like to know how people are going about validating collections in WPF. Lets say for example that I have an observable collection of ViewModels that I am binding to the items source of a grid, and the user can add new rows to the grid and needs to fill them. First of all I need to validate on each row to ensure that required fields of each ViewModel are filled in. This is fine and simple to do for each row. However, the second level of validation is on the collection as a whole. For example i want to ensure that no two rows of the collection have the same identifier, or that no two rows have the same name. Im basically checking for duplicate properties within different rows. I also have more complex conditions where I must ensure that there is at least one item within the collection that has some property set. How do I get a validation rule that would allow me to check these rules, validating on the whole collection rather than the individual items. I also want to print any validation error above the datagrid so that the user can fix the problem and the message will update or disappear as the user fixes each different rule. Anyone have any experience of the proper way to do this? Thanks Chris

  On a Windows 2008 R2, using DNS and IIS I've established my development test server; i.e. I'll have a web application that I can browse on http://test.dev I've moved all the static content files like images, js files and css files into another application which is visible on http://cdn.test.dev test.dev, uses cdn.test.dev urls like http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js to load js, css and images. When I first load "~/" of test.dev, all files will load with a response code of 200; when I press F5 in Firefox, all files, except the "~/default.aspx", will load with 304 response code; but pressing Ctrl+F5 loads them again with a 200 code; if I browse another url like "~/pages/" in test.dev, all of those static files will reload with a 200 code... Is this normal or I'm doing something wrong? Actually, I'm looking for a behavior like this: I want the client to load http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js, only once. I want the client's browser to use this jquery.js file, from cache, in all other pages of test.dev Is this possible?
