  • Windows File I/O Reading

    Currently working on open/read images in VC++. Some examples i came across on the internet use Windows.h I/O routines like ReadFile...but there seems to be inconsistency in there declaration. Here's what i have got. //So i have this function to load file BYTE* LoadFile ( int* width, int* height, long* size, LPCWSTR bmpfile ) { BITMAPFILEHEADER bmpheader; BITMAPINFOHEADER bmpinfo; DWORD bytesread = 0; HANDLE file = CreateFile ( bmpfile , GENERIC_READ, FILE_SHARE_READ,NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_FLAG_SEQUENTIAL_SCAN, NULL ); if ( NULL == file ) return NULL; if ( ReadFile ( file, &bmpheader, sizeof ( BITMAPFILEHEADER ),&bytesread, NULL ) == false ) { CloseHandle ( file ); return NULL; } . . . return appropriate value; } Now the ReadFile API function is declared as follows in WinBase.h WINBASEAPI BOOL WINAPI ReadFile( In HANDLE hFile, Out LPVOID lpBuffer, In DWORD nNumberOfBytesToRead, _Out_opt_ LPDWORD lpNumberOfBytesRead, _Inout_opt_ LPOVERLAPPED lpOverlapped ); And in MSDN examples... They call this function like this. ReadFile(hFile, chBuffer, BUFSIZE, &dwBytesRead, NULL) Which expects that "bytesRead" is sort of out parameter. so it gives me number of bytes read. But in my code ..it is giving error message. 'ReadFile' : cannot convert parameter 4 from 'LPDWORD *' to 'LPDWORD' so i just initialized bytesRead to 0 and passed by value.( which is wrong..but just to check if it works ). then it gives this exception Unhandled exception at 0x774406ae in ImProc.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000000. Kindly suggest . Kindly tell if any code i missed out....including while forming the question itself. Thanks.

    Hello, I'm using DCMTK library for reading Dicom files (Image format used in medical image processing.) I'm having a problem in compiling this DCMTK source code. DCMTK uses some additional external libraries (zlib, tiff, libpng, libxml2, libiconv). I know that all libraries should be generated with same Code Generation Options. I've downloaded the compiled versions of these support libraries which are compiled with "Multithreaded DLL" runtime options (/MD). In each project of DCMTK source code I ensured that runtime options are "Multithreaded DLL" (/MD).   • Is it possible to use XP visual styles (*.msstyles) or Windows Blinds in a thinapp portable applicat

    It's been a while since I made a portable (Office 2007) Thinapp application, and since then I've uninstalled VMWare from my machine to free up space, so I'd like to know if someone already knows the answer to this before I set up everything again to try it. I'm thinking of installing a visual style (*.msstyles, for XP) along with the application to thinapp before post-setup capture. Failing that, maybe I'll try with visual mods such as Windows Blinds. The purpose is to be able to run a portable application with a specific visual style. So my question is: Is it possible? (I believe it somehow is, since VirtualBox does something similar to XP Mode) If it is, will it work on a computer with the "classic" Windows style? If it's not, will it work with another virtualization software? (Xenocode?) If it's not possible with *.msstyles, will it work with visual mods such as Windows Blinds? Thanks for any input!   • How to work around a possible XNA Game Studio or Windows Phone SDK install failure on Windows 8

    I am not sure if you guys know Aaron Stebner. Aaron works at Microsoft, and has pulled thorns from my side many many times already. His blog is at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner and it is a gold mine of tips and tricks to debug and solve many cryptic issues happening during installation and removal of programs. For example, Aaron taught me how to remove programs that do not appear in the Programs and Features list, amongst many other things. The last nugget I used from Aaron’s blog saved my butt just before a presentation where I had to run both Visual Studio 10 with the Windows Phone SDK, and Visual Studio 11 for WinRT development. Of course this had to be on Windows 8. Unfortunately when you install the Windows Phone SDK on Windows 8, you may (or may not, I saw both scenarios) encounter an issue with XNA, and the installation fails. Unfortunately, even if you don’t use XNA in your apps, this will prevent even normal Windows Phone app development. Fortunately, Aaron has a fix for that. But with this router, I have very limited control over my network and my wifi range is too small for my house. But, I have a hardwire ran to my TV which I have hooked into a switch and split the line to my PS3. The problem I'm having, is I don't know how to get the Buffalo DD-WRT setup as a subnetwork so that the PS3 can find my Media Server.     Hi there We are a small office of about 4 people, and we would like to have a 27-inch iMac (Core 2 Duo) setup as a server and workstation simultaneously, using Mac OS X Server. This might seem like overkill (and stupidity at the same time), but here is the situation: we want to convert our whole office to Mac, only one full-time PC left we will not use it's mail server we might use it's chat server we want it setup to provide VPN we are a small office so I don't see how the server can be overrun with too much traffic. How difficult would it be to set it up in this way? I have a fairly advanced knowledge of Mac OS X but have never encountered Mac OS X Server. I think I would be able to set it up, but what are the probable pitfalls that might come up? Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo, which of course has two cores and the VT extensions, and I'm running Ubuntu Linux (host) on it with VirtualBox, which has Windows Vista (guest). Currently I've got the guest machine setup for two processors to give Windows a chance to manage its own parallelism, but I'm not certain that it's any faster. I've tried it with just one processor, but it's hard to tell if it's any better. Any thoughts? Should the guest have two processors setup?

  • Windows Server 2012 Essentials - Trying to setup "Anywhere Access" but the "Computer Access" list for users is blank

    I have a new installation of Windows Server 2012 Essentials and I'm trying to setup "Anywhere Access" for both VPN and remote desktop. The basic setup is all working. Shared folders is working but remote desktop has no computers available. On the server, if I edit a user with the Essentials Dashboard and go to "Computer access", the list is empty. The desktop computers have been joined to the domain. I can see them in AD under "Computers". I think our mistake was that we didn't use the connector tool to join the domain. We moved from a previous domain and went to Computer / Properties, changed the domain and started with a new profile. Is there something I can do now to make these desktops available for remote desktop? I can access a desktop directly no problem by going directly to it with the RDP client on port 3389. I do that from the outside world through an SSH tunnel.

  • Missing menu items for Azure SQL tables within SQL Server Management Studio?

    I have a table (say Table1) that is replicated via SQL Data Sync Agent across a local SQL Server 2012 as well as an Azure SQL Server (part of Microsoft Azure). Everything about Table1 (schema, table values etc ) is identical to the best of my understanding. However, when I list and right click Table1 from Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2012 (SSMS), I get some very different menu options, even for seemingly basic stuff. Lets focus only on the 'Design' menu item: It is visible for Table1 on the local SQL server in SSMS It is missing for Table1 on Azure SQL via SSMS It is visible for Table1 (as Open Table Definition) on Azure SQL when reaching it via Visual Studio 2012 (Server Explorer - Data connections) This is seen in the screenshots below: Now I use scripts from some real stuff (esp when I need to check in the SQL scripts etc) but this difference concerns me to some extent. Am I witnessing just a tools artifact in SQL Server Management Studio when connecting to Azure SQL? or is it something more serious about limitations of Azure SQL itself (although, just seeing the Design surface is so basic!)?

    Finally, after quite a bit of this vs that, I have chosen to virtualize a couple of my servers with KVM. I did do a test setup as well, but I have a few questions about setting VM's in KVM. Would appreciate pointers. What is the best storage to use - Qcow2 or LVM? I like the fact that I can copy the VM file easily with a Qcow2 but what about LVM, how do I take a backup or make copy on a development server to play with? I know I can clone a LVM, but how do I bring to my development server? How do I setup the guest partitioning? For example, when setting up Ubuntu inside Ubuntu, do I choose LVM for that VM or regular fdisk partitioning? Can I increase the partition size then later, if I need a bigger disk?

  • Laptop won't load an OS or even an OS setup.

    My fiancé's laptop started to crash and would get BSOD errors to the point that she couldn't even boot up because it would either take forever or just crash. So I figured I'd try to reformat, as it's done this before and this was the solution last time. On Windows 7, it will not go passed the "Setup is starting..." screen. On Windows XP, it crashes once the setup is about to start (BSOD). I shut it down and let it sit for 5+ hours, in case it was overheating, but it's doing the same thing anyway. By now, I figure it's something to do with the hardware but I hope not. Any ideas?

    The files and directories on one of my ntfs partition were wiped out last time. I used R-studio to scan the partition, and it did find many files, actually more than the capacity of the partition. This is because R-studio found files that were deleted even earlier. So I wonder if it is possible to specify those files and directories deleted last time instead of those deleted earlier for recovery? R-studio has a free demo version, for which scanning is free,but recovery isn't.     I can setup remote access to a pc behind a single router/firewall by using NAT and Port Forwarding, simples! But there is a customer that shares an internet connection with another office, and they are behind a second router firewall. I drawed a picture with my crayons but I can't attach it because I'm a new account on SF. see it here: http://i.imgur.com/b3FDx.png So how would I setup remote access to the pc that is beind the second firewall? It must be something about static routes, i.e. if I hit the wan ip on port 4905 I want it to forward it to 10.0.0.30 by going through 192.168.1.10 so a route statement like for all requests to 10.0.0.30, use 192.168.1.10 ? and ass u me router 2 has a static gateway ip of 192.168.1.10 and need a standard NAT on router 2 to point port 4905 to 10.0.0.30 is this the right way, any tips? both routers are netgear consumer equipment. thanks
