  • Need to setup an office network, suggest some hardware?

    We have 6 windows workstations, spread out over a fairly large area. Need to share a DSL connection (upgrading to 100/100 mbit fiber in a few months) with these machines over a 1gbit network. Also need Wifi to be available for laptop use. Plan to add 2 rackmount servers for internal use as well. Can someone suggest a decent (preferably low cost) setup that will let me achieve the stuff mentioned above.

  • How do you make the Windows Components option appear in Setup Manager?

    Supposedly there is a "Windows Components" option under Advanced Settings when you run the Setup Manager (included in the \Tools\Deploy.cab from a Windows 2003 CD). I can't get this to show up. Is there a special trick? Here is a screenshot of what it is supposed to look like: http://tinypic.com/r/2rm2gau/7 When I run it, it looks exactly the same except there is no "Windows Components" option above Telephony.

  • When connecting to a unix box, how does it know you have SSH setup on your desktop?

    When you use something like putty to connect to a linux box, and you setup your SSH keys etc. When connecting, how does it tell the server that you want to connect using your SSH keys? Is SSH running as a service on a particular port or does it simply pass your private-key and then the login service sees that and tries to connect using it? Just looking for a fairly high level understanding (with maybe some detail if you want to...)

    Any ideea why every NSIS setup file(.exe) i download gives CRC error when trying to install. I do not have any firewall installed and also i tried with and withouth a download manager. Also files downloaded with bittorrent have crc errors. But this happens only with setups that were made with NSIS and only on windows 7, on XP they work fine and aloso any other files work except those made with NSIS.

They like the price of PayPal, but don't really like the interface.   • Ubuntu studio/xubuntu 12.04 instead of Ubuntu 12.04/12.10 for CAD/ arhcitectural workflow. Worth it?

    I am currently using Ubuntu 12.10. So, as described in the title I am planning to install Ubuntu studio. The programs i use are Blender, Maya 2013, NukeX, Bricscad, Sketchup (with wine) and also i am planning to install revit architecture through VirtualBox. Well, I am using a quad-core CPU and i want to have all the power of my system for rendering/modelling. So, i decided to try a more lightweight desktop than unity. Also, what made me to decide this, is that when i tried to install Bricscad v12 the program does not work. So, i thought that if i want something more professional for my work i should have only LTS versions of lightweight Ubuntu. So, my 2 questions are :1) Worth it? 2) Can i have global menu(close,minimize,maximize buttons, menu) like ubuntu/unity? Thanks

Requirements: accessible to normal users accessible to root always loaded, not only for bash (gnome-terminal does not start a bash by default) to work on Ubuntu, Debian and optionally Red Hat great if addition could be easily scripted So far here is the no-list: /etc/profile.d/java.sh - not executed if you start a new console from gnome-terminal /etc/profile - same as above ~/.profile - current user only, also any solution assuming ~ would not be acceptable because home directory could be on NIS, and JAVA_HOME could be different.

    So I've been following the tutorials from the book Sean James's "3D Graphics with XNA Game Studio 4.0", and have been doing fine until i reached the shadow mapping part. in this book it creates point lights with a Sphere model. my first Q is how to draw a directional Light with this frame work? secondly it can do shadow mapping just for one light, how can i do shadow mapping for all or parts of the lights in the game? i just want to know how to modify this codes to do the above tasks.     How do I install this Rosegarden Freedom ? I downloaded it but all I got was files and I don't know how to handle them. Where did disappear Linux Multimedia Studio LMMS which I downloaded but it did not appear on the launcher ? Neither cannot I find LMMS with Terminal. Why there's a red drop on the launcher which says Waiting to install and what should I do ? I downloaded Qsynth and it appears when clicking the red drop but still there appears text Waiting to install. Thank You
