  Hi there, I have a Java Web application using GlassFish 3, JSF2.0 (facelets) and JPA (EclipseLink) on MySQL (URL: jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/administer). The problem I'm facing is that if I'm saving entities to the database with the update() method, String data loses integrity; '?' is shown instead of some characters. The server, pages and database is/are configured to use UTF-8. After I post form data, the next page shows the data correctly. Furthermore it "seems" in debug that the String property of the current entity stores the correct value too. Dunno if NetBeans debug can be trusted; might be that it decodes correctly, however it's incorrect. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! Daniel

• What is stopping data flow with .NET 3.5 asynchronous System.Net.Sockets.Socket?

  I have a .NET 3.5 client/server socket interface using the asynchronous methods. The client connects to the server and the connection should remain open until the app terminates. The protocol consists of the following pattern: send stx receive ack send data1 receive ack send data2 (repeat 5-6 while more data) receive ack send etx So a single transaction with two datablocks as above would consist of 4 sends from the client. After sending etx the client simply waits for more data to send out, then begins the next transmission with stx. I do not want to break the connection between individual exchanges or after each stx/data/etx payload. Right now, after connection, the client can send the first stx, and get a single ack, but I can't put more data onto the wire after that. Neither side disconnects, the socket is still intact. The client code is seriously abbreviated as follows - I'm following the pattern commonly available in online code samples. private void SendReceive(string data) { // ... The problem is that the second time I hit SendReceive in the client, the connection is already in a weird state. Do I need to do something in the client to preserve the SocketAsyncEventArgs, and re-use the same object for the lifetime of the socket/connection? I'm not sure which eventargs object should hang around during the life of the connection or a given exchange. Do I need to do something, or Not do something in the server to ensure it continues to Receive data? • Why does my Excel add-in only half work?

  I've created an Excel add-in using Visual Studio 2008. It has a ribbon, a bunch of panes and code that adds sheets and ranges and gets information scraped from a web page. When I run it on my dev PC it works perfectly. I used the Publish command to publich it and installed on a Windows XP virtual PC. The installation seemed fine and when I open Excel I see my ribbon. If I click a button that shows a pane, up pops the pane. If I enter some details into the pane that should create a range and populate it with data from a web page, the range is created but the web page is not visited (I have tested that I have connectivity). One of my buttons adds a hidden worksheet and another displays or hides that sheet. One of these buttons is not working. I've tried everything I can think of. I'm wondering if there are any permissions or trust issues I need to deal with?

• UICollectionViewController nested in a normal UIViewController

  I have added a UICollectionView into a normal ViewController (MainViewController), and than created a UICollectionViewController Subclass (CollectionViewController) in the ViewController and connected the UICollectionView outlet with the CollectionViewController object _collectionViewController = [[CollectionViewController alloc] initWithCollectionViewLayout:_collectionView.collectionViewLayout]; _collectionView.dataSource = _collectionViewController; _collectionView.delegate = _collectionViewController; In the CollectionViewController I have setup an simple NSArray object and I show this one. This works as expected. But If I try to access the collectionview from the CollectionViewController via self.collectionview I am not able to access this one. I dont know what I have to do, to also connect the collectionview. I have build a sample ios-app it is available at: https://github.com/patricks/uicollectionview-problem The method - (void)outputSelectedCell in the UICollectionViewController always shows, that there is nothing selected… I hope you understand the problem.

• JSF Render response programatically

  I have one parent page with a parentManagedBean (attached to Session Scope). On click of a button on this parent page, one popup comes which has a childManagedBean (attached to Request scope). Now ChildManagedBedan holds a reference to parentManaged bean thru JSFs managed Property feature. On this popup window, user selects some option which populates a large value object class. I use the managed property of childMnaagedBean to set the values from this large object to that of parentmanagedbean. Problem is - The parent page shows a link, on click of which a popup comes, on selection of the popup, the popup disappears and set the values to the parentManaged bean.So far so good, but the newly set values need to appear on the parent page. This is where I am stuck. How to programatically render the master page/render page when I am at the child managed bean... is there a way I can get handle of the parent page and refresh it ?

• Adding barcodes to pdfs

  is there any way to do something like a mail merge, where the data (9-15 chars long) is converted to a barcode? im using trying to use openoffice's code128 for calc, but for some reason, every 10 strings, the barcode goes crazy, and the ascii tells me to register at the site where the extension came from, which i dont want to do i also found one for oodraw, but that requires the values to be inputted manually. since im not familiar with the macros, i can't write something that will do it automatically what im trying to do is: take an old pdf (only 1 page) covert it to word or picture or something add a function/macro/whatever to show a barcode (whether or not the barcode shows in this file, i dont care), given a string from excel data reconvert to separate pdfs or some other way that adds barcodes to pdfs all other free programs i have found do not do this nicely, and since im not really a pdf person, im not going to buy random programs. i just need this done for one large batch of data

• What could cause a button on a UIActionSheet to "miss" on touches?

  I have a UIActionSheet as follows: UIActionSheet *sheet = [[UIActionSheet alloc] initWithTitle:[NSString stringWithFormat: @"Cancel New %@? Changes will be lost.", [creator propertyName]] delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Stay Here" destructiveButtonTitle:@"Discard and Close" otherButtonTitles:@"Save and Close", nil]; [sheet showInView:self.view]; [sheet release]; It creates the action sheet, The buttons display, the Destructive button is on top, cancel button is on the bottom, other button (save and close) shows up in the middle, the top two buttons, (destructive and other) work fine, but the bottom button has a gap, so it is farther down than the other buttons. For some reason though, in order to press the button I need to touch where it would be if there was no gap. Touching the actual button doesn't work. Sorry if this isn't super clear, has anyone encountered something like this? I don't like to whip out the "I found a bug" card too fast, maybe I'm doing something wrong here.

There is a quantity field(nonmodel) where the user can enter the quantity While adding a new product if the user enters: type: soda quantity: 3 Then there 3 records should be created in product model with type= soda like the following. id type 2 soda 3 soda 4 soda If user enters location: aisle4 quantity: 2 Then id location 5 ailse4 6 ailse4 Can you tell me how to pass the nonmodel field 'quantity' to the rails(model or controller) and how use it to add the products in groups as mentioned above? or should I create a column called quantity in my product table? Will the history be updated too for all these new records with after_create filter which I already have ? Is there any good tutorial or book which shows how to pass such nonmodel html/javascript fields from view to rails and then back to the view? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

• Opening Visual Studio created XAML in Expression Blend

  I have created a console application using Visual Studio 2008. In a few cases, this application shows a WPF dialog. Now, the design view of Visual Studio is a little limited, so I'd like to edit this dialog using Expression Blend 3. Blend does not seem to have an option to load individual XAML files, and when I open my solution in Blend, only the XAML code is displayed when I try to edit the dialog. Edit: I've noticed, that no IntelliSense is available in the text view either. When I create a new WPF Project inside Blend, and copy my dialog there (overwriten MainWindows.xaml), I get a design view. What do I have to do to actually get a design view here? • Open working copy file from eclipse history view

  The history view of eclipse shows you a list of files changed in a certain revision. When you open the context menu on one of these you have the option 'Open' which opens a view of that file in that revision. How can I open the editor for the selected file, i.e. the file in the version of the working copy, right from the history view? Background is that I want to use the history view to find files that have been changed recently to do code reviewing. People commit via subversion and I use subclipse to connect eclipse to the subversion server. Today, I must use the 'Open resource'/'Open type' function and type the name of the file that I can read from the history view.

  Im facing problem with Trail period and first month payemnt. My requirement is users can signup with trial period which allow new users to have a 30 day free trial. This means they will not be charged the monthly price until after the first 30 days the regular amount will be charged to user. but the next billing date should be one month later the profile start date. but next billing data and profile start date shows same when i query by GetRecurringPaymentProfile? • iPhone status bar orientation with opengl

  I have opengl only view that displays in portrait and landscape mode using projection matrix (view's transformation is identity all the time). I need to show status bar with proper orientation. I do this by setting status bar orientation property in UIApplication and changing frame of opengl view so the view won't go under status bar. When I change from landscape to portrait (landscape is the initial state) view's frame is set to (0, 20, 320, 460) and stays like this. However view appears to be translated by (-10, -10). It seems that I did change the size of view but couldn't move it. Weird things are: initialy view is full screen, I change it to (0, 0, 300, 480) (landscape with status bar) and it works then, it doesn't work when I try to chenge it for the second time (portrait with status bar) frame property of the view shows that view is placed correctly Any thoughts on what can by the problem?

  Hello, I'am looking for a way to have a webview content selectable in the very same way as the stock browser does. user long presses the text the whole word is selected two pins appear at the word's boundary allowing the user to stretch/shrink the selection. I should note that Dolphin HD shows exactly the same text select functionality as the default browser (same icons, animation, etc), so it really should be possible. But I can't figure out how.   For now I just want to use Gearman for background processing. For example, I need to email a recipient that they have a private message waiting for them once the sender submits their message into the DB. I assume I can run the worker/client and server on my primary server but I have no problems offloading some of the tasks to a different web server. Anyways, my question is how do I handle multiple "functions?" Let's say I need a job that handles the email portion and a job to handle image manipulation. Can I have multiple functions in the worker? I've followed a couple of examples I found online but each example only shows one function being initialized. Do I have to start up multiple "workers" to handle multiple functions?

I've bound to it using an object Private Sub LoadAllCampers() Dim Os As List(Of LE.Camper) = Nothing Dim Oc As New LE.Camper_Controller Os = Oc.GetCamperData(0) With Me.dgResults .DataSource = Os End With CamperBindingSource.DataSource = Os End Sub I have a tag setup on the ID property within the Camper class. when i double click on a row in teh datagridview, i do a me.dgResults.tag and it always shows the first rows ID value. If i change the ordering within the class, it will display a different value, but it's always the first value in the datagridview. I'm missing something simple to get this working.. just don't know what it is. Hopefully someone can spare a minute.
