  • question about windows controls changed event

    - by Mike
I have several controls on my form and on changed event the logic entity properties are changed. Is it possible not to implement changed event for every control, but do it in one place and update my logic entity when user is making changes on the form?

  • Security Issue in LinkedIn &ndash; View any 3rd profile without a premium account.

On opening the contact on my desktop, I was surprised to see, I need to upgrade my account to view the contact. Doing some research along with my wife, I found this simple security vulnerability from LinkedIn that can let anyone view a contact’s full profile even when you have a “not upgraded” LinkedIn account and that the contact is a “3rd + Everyone Else”. Here’s an example of what I am talking about. I just made a random search on LinkedIn for a contact whose name starts with Sacha. Do note, this is just a walkthrough and I am not publicizing any Sacha. I check the “3rd + Everyone Else” and find a “LinkedIn Member”. On clicking this person’s profile to view, I am presented with the following page, asking me to upgrade. Make a note of this page’s web address and you get the profile id from it. For example, for this contact, the page address is: http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=868XXX35 The Profile Id for this contact is 868XXX35. Now, open following page where the Profile Id is the same as the one we grabbed a moment earlier. https://touch.www.linkedin.com/?#profile/868XXX35 The mobile page exposes this contact information and you even get the possibility to connect to this person without an introduction mail (InMail). I hope someone from LinkedIn sees and issues a fix for this. I am pretty sure, it’s something that they don’t want the user to do without purchasing an upgrade package.

  • Best approch for creating Base control

    - by akjoshi
Hi, I am looking for a solution for this scenario - I need to implement a feature to allow user to add various controls to canvas(WPF, custom and third party ) and then select any one of them and modify some properties in property grid(changes needs to be reflected in UI). I don't want to expose all the properties of any control only some of them(relevant to end user); apart from this there are some properties which will be common for all controls e.g. Title, Value(Value will be bound to some property of a control, say Text of TextBox and Content of Label) etc. I am thinking of putting all the common proeprties at one place. Things I am confused aout - How to create such base class, whether to use UserControl or Custom Control for this? How will the binding work between Control, base class proeprties and PropertyGrid? What type of object will I expose to property grid? Any idea on what approch should be followed in this case, any kind of input will really be helpful.

  • ASP.net - First build fails with 'Unknown server tag'

    - by Sophia
I have multiple custom controls used on a ASPX (and C#) page registered from within the page rather than in Web.Config. On the first build (or rebuild), build fails with error messages for wherever I've used the custom controls. Subsequent builds are successful. The error message: Unknown server tag 'prefix:ExampleControl'. What might cause this, and how can I fix it? Register syntax: <%@ Register Src="ControlsFolder/ExampleControl.ascx" TagName="ExampleControl" TagPrefix="prefix" %> <!-- etc --> Usage syntax: <prefix:ExampleControl runat="server" ID="ExampleControl1" /> <!-- etc -->

  • What is Silverlight's relationship -- if any -- to WPF?

    - by xarzu
I was working with a WPF application and I decided that the controls and graphics I wanted to display on the grid might look better if it was a silverlight component. I thought this way because of all the cool silverlight controls that look very flash-like. But now that I have gottem my Visual Studio 2010 set up with SIlverlight, it seems that every silverlight app I can make are ASP.NET in nature. It seems that instead of a cool GUI control to make, Silverlight is telling me that it is primarely a dataflow sort of application for the web. What is the relationship, if any, between WPF and Silverlight. Can I or can I not put a silverlight control into my existing WPF application?

  • ASP.net User Controls and business entities

    - by Chris
Hi all, I am currently developing some user controls so that I can use them at several places within a project. One control is a about editing a list of addresses for a customer. Since this needs to be done at several places within the project I want to make it a simple user control. The user control contains a repeater control. By default the repeater displays one address item to be edited. If more addresses need to be added, the user can click on a button to append an additional address to be entered. The user control should work for creating new addresses as well as editing existing ones. The address business entity looks something like this: public class Address { public string Street { get; set; } public City City { get; set; } public Address(string street, City city) { Check.NotNullOrEmpty(street); Check.NotNull(city); Street = street; City = city; } } As you can see an address can only be instantiated if there is a street and a city. Now my idea was that the user control exposes a collection property called Addresses. The getter of this property collects the addresses from the repeater and return it in a collection. The setter would databind the addresses to be edited to the repeater. Like this: public partial class AddressEditControl : System.Web.UI.UserControl { public IEnumerable<Address> Addresses { get { IList<Address> addresses = new List<Address>(); // collect items from repeater and create addresses foreach (RepeaterItem item in addressRepeater.Items) { // collect values from repeater item addresses.Add(new Address(street, city)); } return addresses; } set { addressRepeater.DataSource = value; addressRepeater.DataBind(); } } } First I liked this approach since it is object oriented makes it very easy to reuse the control. But at some place in my project I wanted to use this control so a user could enter some addresses. And I wanted to pre-fill the street input field of each repeater item since I had that data so the user doesn't need to enter it all by his self. Now the problem is that this user control only accepts addresses in a valid state (since the address object has only one constructor). So I cannot do: IList<Addresses> addresses = new List<Address>(); addresses.Add(new Address("someStreet", null)); // i dont know the city yet (user has to find it out) addressControl.Addresses = addresses; So the above is not possible since I would get an error from address because the city is null. Now my question: How would I create such a control? ;) I was thinking about using an Address DTO instead of a real address, so it can later be mapped to an address. That way I can pass in and out an address collection which addresses don't need to be valid. Or did I misunderstood the way user controls work? Are there any best practices?

  • ASP: Extend control (ASCX) and access base markup file from subclass code

    - by Pathoschild
Hello, I'm building form validation controls for our C# ASP application. The bulk of the work is handled by a BaseValidator control (subclassing System.Web.UI.UserControl), which also has the markup for the validation output. This is then extended by subcontrols like PasswordValidator, that provides the Validate method and any extra fields needed by that validator control. (The end goal is to have controls like <uc1:PasswordValidator ControlId="txtPassword" /> which we can plop into any form with minimum duplication.) However, PasswordValidator.ascx.cs cannot access the form elements defined in BaseValidator.ascx; the only way I've found to do so is to duplicate the markup in each subcontrol's *.ascx file. How can I extend BaseValidator.ascx.cs and access BaseValidator.ascx's markup in the subclass?

  • Asp.net Custom user control button. How to stop multiple clicks by user.

I am trying to modify an open source Forum called YetAnotherForum.net in the project they have a custom user control called Yaf:ThemeButton. I have added in the code as of right now an extra onclick="this.style.display='none'" in the .cs code but that is a ugly fix I was wondering if anyone would have a better idea of disabling the ThemeButton clientside?? pls any feedback if I need to give more examples or further explain the question thanks.

  • C# Accessing controls from an outside class without "public"

    - by Kurt W
I know this has been asked before but I believe my situation is a bit different -- or I don't understand the answers given. I have spent about 4 hours working on this solidly and finally realized, I just don't know what to do. I have 2 Forms (Form1, Settings) and a class I created called Themes. I have get/set properties that currently work but are all within Form1 and I would like to move as much code related to themeing as I can OUTSIDE of Form1 and into Themes.cs. Changing Theme: To change the theme, the user opens up the Settings form and selects a theme from the dropdown menu and presses the 'Set' button -- this all works, but now I want to move it into my own class and I can't get the code to compile. Here is example code that works before moving -- note that this is only 2 different controls I want to modify but there are about 30 total. I am abridging the code: Form 1: public partial class Form1 : Form { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); } private void btnSettings_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Settings frm = new Settings(this); frm.Show(); } private Color txtRSSURLBGProperty; private Color txtRSSURLFGProperty; public Color TxtRSSURLBGProperty { get { return txtRSSURLBGProperty; } set { txtRSSURL.BackColor = value; } } public Color TxtRSSURLFGProperty { get { return txtRSSURLFGProperty; } set { txtRSSURL.ForeColor = value; } } Settings Form: public partial class Settings : Form { public Settings() { InitializeComponent(); } private Form1 rssReaderMain = null; public Settings(Form requestingForm) { rssReaderMain = requestingForm as Form1; InitializeComponent(); } private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs args) { // Appearence settings for DEFAULT THEME if (cbThemeSelect.SelectedIndex == 1) { this.rssReaderMain.TxtRSSURLBGProperty = Color.DarkSeaGreen; this.rssReaderMain.TxtRSSURLFGProperty = Color.White; [......about 25 more of these....] } The theme class is currently empty. Again, the goal is to move as much code into the themes class (specifically the get/set statements if at all possible!) and hopefully just use a method similar to this within the Settings form once the proper drowndown item is selected: SetTheme(Default); I hope someone can help, and I hope I explained it right! I have been racking my brain and I need to have this done fairly soon! Much thanks in advance as I'm sure everyone says. I have teamviewer or logmein if someone wants to remote in -- that is just as easy. I can also send my project as a zip if needed. Thanks so much, Kurt Modified code for review: Form1 form: public partial class Form1 : ThemeableForm { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); } ThemeableForm form: internal abstract class ThemeableForm : Form { private Color rssLabelBGProperty; private Color rssLabelFGProperty; public Color RssLabelBGProperty { get { return rssLabelBGProperty; } set { lRSS.BackColor = value; } } public Color RssLabelFGProperty { get { return rssLabelFGProperty; } set { lRSS.ForeColor = value; } } Settings form: public Settings(ThemeableForm requestingForm) { rssReaderMain = requestingForm as ThemeableForm; InitializeComponent(); } private ThemeableForm rssReaderMain = null; private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs args) { // Appearence settings for DEFAULT THEME if (cbThemeSelect.SelectedIndex == 1) { this.rssReaderMain.LRSSBGProperty = Color.DarkSeaGreen; this.rssReaderMain.LRSSFGProperty = Color.White; } Now the all the controls in my get/set (lRSS in the example code above) error out with does not exist in the current context. I also get the warning: Warning 1The designer could not be shown for this file because none of the classes within it can be designed. The designer inspected the following classes in the file: Form1 --- The base class 'RSSReader_BKRF.ThemeableForm' could not be loaded. • How make a control that look like the "download" dialog of firefox

    - by mamcx
I have a aplication that like firefox, can be enchanced from plugins available from internet. Now, I want to provide in Delphi (2010) a dialog similar to the download from firefox. I have no skills in build graphical controls. Using the standard controls of Delphi, what could be the best way... using a TListView/TStringGrid with custom draw or... The idea is show a icon in the left, a title with subtitle with 1-3 lines on the middle and date/version on the rigth. That row must be selectable and that is all.

  • Company wants to write custom project management tool, rather then use third party product.

    - by Jason Evans
At the company I work, we are really wanting to get into the agile methodology for developing software. One thing that I'm not excited about is the fact that management wants us to build a custom project management feature inside the company's Intranet. I think this is a total waste of time. There are many great third party tools available (e.g. Axosoft OnTime) that can do everything we need, and more. For how much development time it would cost us to build our own project management module, we could buy numerous licences for a third party product. One concern is that, whilst we are writing code for a client, and using our custom Intranet project management module, we find bugs in the module that need fixing ASAP. That means having to stop work on the client code to fix the Intranet. That just puts shivers down my spine. Another worry I have is lack of functionality. This custom module is going to be so basic, that it will just feel really crap to use. That might sound a bit snooty, but for goodness sake, many third party tools are so feature rich, that the idea of having to write our own tool makes feel very uneasy. In fact, I can't be bothered. What do you guys think? I'm going to raise this issue with my boss, since I feel it's such an important topic to talk about. EDIT: Thanks for the great responses, much appreciated. To summarize some of them: Money Naturally my boss does want to save money, by not forking out a few hundred £'s for licences. However, for us to write a custom tool, it will take x number of days, multiplied by approx £500, which is our costs. I don't see the business value in this. Management have mentioned that they want to sell the Intranet as a product in the future, but it's so custom to our needs (and downright basic), that in order to give it to another client, I can see us having to fork a version of the code and rebuild the majority of it anyway. So it's not like we're gaining anything there in reuse. Features Having our own custom module means not feature bloat - only the functionality we require will be in the product. My issue is that there are plenty of free, open-source project management tools out there with minimal features already. So even if cost is an issue, we could look into open-source. Again it all boils down to the fact that I don't see the point in writing a project management tool in this day and age. It's a bit like writing your own web browser - why?, what's the point? Although management are asking for this tool, just because they are, it does not mean I'm going to please them and do it just because they asked for it. If something does not make sense, then I will raise it as a concern. At the end of the day, it's the developers who write the code, it's the developers who make money for a business. Thus, as far I'm concerned, the devs have a very big role in deciding how a company should manage projects and what tools are used. "I am Spartan, argh!" :) Hmm, I've not been able to make this question a wiki for some reason, thus I'm going to have to pick an answer to accept. Cheers. Jas.

  • asp.net web forms best practice to retrieve dynamic server control values

    - by Andrew Florko
I populate web form with dynamic list of exams from database. I want user to enter examination marks for each exam. There is list of exam titles and textbox near each title. I create list with repeater control: <asp:Repeater ID="rptExams" runat="server" onitemdatabound="rptExams_ItemDataBound" > <ItemTemplate> <tr> <td> <asp:Literal runat="server" ID="ltTitle"/> </td> <td> <asp:HiddenField runat="server" ID="hfId"/> <asp:Textbox runat="server" ID="tbMark"/> </td> </tr> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> And bind data to repeater on page_init: class Exam { public int Id { get; set;} public string Title { get; set;} } ... // this list is retrieved from database actually Exam[] Exams = new Exam[] { new Exam { Id = 1, Title = "Math"}, new Exam { Id = 2, Title = "History"} }; ... protected void Page_Init(object sender, EventArgs e) { rptExams.DataSource = Exams; rptExams.DataBind(); } So far so good. Then I have to retrieve data on postback. I have two ways but both of them looks ugly. Idea is to store dynamically created databounded controls on ItemDataBoundEvent in Page_Init stage, and process their values in Page_Load stage. It looks like this: private Dictionary<HiddenField, TextBox> Id2Mark = new Dictionary<HiddenField, TextBox>(); protected void rptExams_ItemDataBound(object sender, RepeaterItemEventArgs e) { ... if (IsPostBack) { var tbMark = (TextBox)e.Item.FindControl("tbMark"); var hfId = (HiddenField)e.Item.FindControl("hfId"); // store dynamically created controls Id2Mark.Add(hfId, tbMark); } ... } protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (IsPostBack) { foreach (var pair in Id2Mark) { int examId = Int32.Parse(pair.Key.Value); string mark = pair.Value.Text; // PROCESS } ... I'm completely sure there is a better way to retrieve data from dynamically created controls. Thank you in advance!

  • Design pattern to encapsulate common funtionality among UI controls

    - by Dan
I'm brainstorming some ideas around a pattern to use for the following scenario. I have some 3rd party controls that I want to add common functionality to. Functionality is added by handling several of the the events and doing certain things when the events fire along with adding some private variables to hold some state info between events. I want to reuse the code and functionality so this is what I'd typically do. Create a class for this functionality and pass in the instance of the control that I want to add the functionality to in the constructor. Then I can add event handlers to the control in the instance of the class. Can anyone think of alternative patterns to use in order to create this kind of reusable functionality.

  • How can I add an event handler to an event by name?

    - by cyclotis04
    I'm attempting to add an event handler for every control on my form. The form is a simple info box which pops up, and clicking anywhere on it does the same thing (sort of like Outlook's email notifier.) To do this, I've written a recursive method to add a MouseClick handler to each control, as follows: private void AddMouseClickHandler(Control control, MouseEventHandler handler) { control.MouseClick += handler; foreach (Control subControl in control.Controls) AddMouseClickHandler(subControl, handler); } However, if I wanted to add a handler for all of the MouseDown and MouseUp events, I'd have to write two more methods. I'm sure there's a way around this, but I can't find it. I want a method like: private void AddRecursiveHandler(Control control, Event event, EventHandler handler) { control.event += handler; foreach (Control subControl in control.Controls) AddRecursiveHandler(subControl, event, handler); }

However, when I add another slideshow I lose the controls and title for that one. link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1466448/numbered/stack.html I read on other related posts about using a unique ID for each slideshow but I have very limited experience in jquery to understand that approach. • Access dynamically generated control from code behind

    - by user648922
I load a piece of html which contains something like: <em> < input type="text" value="Untitled" name="ViewTitle" id="ViewTitle" runat="server"> </em> into my control. The html is user defined, do please do not ask me to add them statically on the aspx page. On my page, I have a placeholder and I can use LiteralControl target = new LiteralControl (); // html string contains user-defined controls target.text = htmlstring to render it property. My problem is, since its a html piece, even if i know the input box's id, i cannot access it using FindControl("ViewTitle") (it will just return null) because its rendered as a text into a Literal control and all the input controls were not added to the container's control collections. I definitely can use Request.Form["ViewTitle"] to access its value, but how can I set its value?

  • WPF Frame accessing parent page controls

    - by Mitch
I have a WPF page that contains a Listbox and a frame. The frame has various pages loaded into it determined by the selection within the Listbox. Each page within the frame has a variety of different input boxes and has a Save Cancel button. When the Save button is clicked I need the content to be saved to the database and the Listbox in the parent page to be refreshed to reflect the new data. Saving the data is easy but how do I initiate a refresh on the contents of the Listbox in the parent page when calling it from the page that inside the frame? I need to somehow be able to access the parent pages controls to do this. Any ideas?
