  • I am trying to install Kubuntu, but I get a metalink error

    It looks like the ISO metalink is broken for the Kubuntu install from Wubi. Can you please fix this? Or, help me figure out what I'm doing wrong.     Dear Friends, im totally new in php. Just learning. I got 2 Assingment with php and html. Assignment 01: I have to mansion some pplz name and all of them some friends name. and I have to print common friend if there have common friend. Bt there have a prob that I got also msg which dnt have any common friend like “Rana has 0 friends in common with Roni.” I want to stop this and how can i? Assignment 02: I made a html form to search a person from that php file. Like: when I will search for Rana php form will b open and and print : Rana have 4 friends and he has a common friend with Nandini and Mamun. when I will search for Tanmoy the page will be open and print: Tonmoy is Rana’s friend who have 4 friend and common friends with Nandini and Mamun. for this I have to use the function “post/get/request” Plz plz plzzzzzzzzzz help me!     I'm curious about how others have approached the problem of maintaining and synchronizing database changes across many (10+) developers without a DBA? What I mean, basically, is that if someone wants to make a change to the database, what are some strategies to doing that? (i.e. I've created a 'Car' model and now I want to apply the appropriate DDL to the database, etc..) We're primarily a Python shop and our ORM is SQLAlchemy. Previously, we had written our models in such a way to create the models using our ORM, but we recently ditched this because: We couldn't track changes using the ORM The state of the ORM wasn't in sync with the database (e.g. lots of differences primarily related to indexes and unique constraints) There was no way to audit database changes unless the developer documented the database change via email to the team. Our solution to this problem was to basically have a "gatekeeper" individual who checks every change into the database and applies all accepted database changes to an accepted_db_changes.sql file, whereby the developers who need to make any database changes put their requests into a proposed_db_changes.sql file. We check this file in, and, when it's updated, we all apply the change to our personal database on our development machine. We don't create indexes or constraints on the models, they are applied explicitly on the database. I would like to know what are some strategies to maintain database schemas and if ours is seems reasonable. Thanks!

(Extract method is much harder as the merge tools don’t seem to match the unchanged blocks well) Now in my dreams, I am thinking of a tool that can record (or work out) what well defined refactoring operations have been done on one branch and then “replay” them on the other branch, rather than trying to merge every line the refactoring has affected. see also "Is there an intelligent 3rd merge tool that understands VB.NET" for the other half of my pain!   • Is there a Boost (or other common lib) type for matrices with string keys?

    I have a dense matrix where the indices correspond to genes. While gene identifiers are often integers, they are not contiguous integers. They could be strings instead, too. I suppose I could use a boost sparse matrix of some sort with integer keys, and it wouldn't matter if they're contiguous. Or would this still occupy a great deal of space, particularly if some genes have identifiers that are nine digits? Further, I am concerned that sparse storage is not appropriate, since this is an all-by-all matrix (there will be a distance in each and every cell, provided the gene exists). I'm unlikely to need to perform any matrix operations (e.g., matrix multiplication). I will need to pull vectors out of the matrix (slices). It seems like the best type of matrix would be keyed by a Boost unordered_map (a hash map), or perhaps even simply an STL map. Am I looking at this the wrong way? Do I really need to roll my own? I thought I saw such a class somewhere before. Thanks!

    Hi, I have written a Lempel Ziv compressor and decompressor. I am seeking to improve the time to search the dictionary for a phrase. I have considered K-M-P and Boyer-Moore, but I think an algorithm that adapts to changes in the dictionary would be faster. I've been reading that binary search trees (AVL or with splays) improve the performance of compression time considerably. What I fail to understand is how to bootstrap the binary search tree and insert/remove data. I'm not actually quite sure the significance of each node in the binary search. I am searching for phrases so will each character be considered a node? Also how and what is inserted/removed from the search tree as new data enters the dictionary and old data is removed? The binary search tree sounds like a good payoff since it can adapt to the dictionary, but I'm just not quite sure of how it's used.

  • Is it bad programming style to have a single, maybe common, generic exception?

    Hi, so in my program I have parts where I use try catch blocks like this try { DirectoryInfo dirInfo = new DirectoryInfo(someString); //I don't know if that directory exists //I don't know if that string is valid path string... it could be anything //Some operations here } catch(Exception iDontCareWhyItFailed) { //Didn't work? great... we will say: somethings wrong, try again/next one } Of course I probably could do checks to see if the string is valid path (regex), then I would check if directory exists, then I could catch various exceptions to see why my routine failed and give more info... But in my program it's not really necessary. Now I just really need to know if this is acceptable, and what would a pro say/think about that. Thanks a lot for attention.

I also tried changing servers from my local (Danish) to the main server. No luck. It's also keeping me from upgrading alle the other packages. What to do?

  • Mercurial How To Merge 2 Repositories that share a common ancestor but are not clones of the same re

    I am using hg-subversion, and I have 2 different hg repositories one from our svn trunk, and one from a branch of the trunk. I would like to link them somehow. At some point in the history both Hg repositories will be identical is there some way to join them? In other words is there a way to relate the repositories from within Hg? The technique I am currently using is to just export the second repository over top of the working copy of the revision they share, and then commit that working copy as a branch in Hg, but I lose the history this way. Any advice would be great

  • Creating Videos: Which Framerate is common in the US?

    I know that there are differences in different regions of the world regarding the framerate of videos. E.g. a DVD in Europe is in PAL with 720x756 and 25.0 fps. In the US its the NTSC standard with 720x480 and 29.97 fps. When I don't want to generate a DVD but a plain video file, e.g. WMV oder AVI what framerate is used in USA? I have a end user application where the user can generate videos, so what framerate does the US user expect it to have? Is there a difference in SD and HD video?

  • How do I join two git repos without a common root, where all modified files are the same?

    I have a git-cpan-init of a repo which yielded a different root node from another already established git repo I found on github C:A:S:DBI. I've developed quite a bit on my repo, and I'd like to merge or replay my edits on a fork of the more authoritative repository. Does anyone know how to do this? I think it is safe to assume none of the file-contents of the modified files are different -- the code base hasn't been since Nov 08'. For clarity the git hub repo is the authoritative one. My local repo is the one I want to go up to git hub shown as a real git fork.
