  • 12.10 nautilus on dell xps 12 does not work

    I have installed 12.10 on a new Dell XPS 12 ultrabook. Everything seems to work properly right now, including the touch screen, except for nautilus. The left pane works properly, I can select an item on the left and the contents will show up on the right, but when I go to do anything with the contents on the right nothing happens, I can't double click to open, I can't right click to bring up a menu. I can however hold down the left button and to draw a box to select more than one item, but I can't do anything with the selected items. I did not have these problems when I tried 12.04, but unfortunately the touchscreen does not work out of the box on 12.04 and 12.10 seemed to be the faster way go. Any ideas? How can I log what is happening when I try to do anything in nautilus?

    We are doing a big redesign work on our website, and at least 50% of the website folders will be moved to new places with different names (i.e. many URL will be changed). Sure, Google will need some time to index new pages and we expect our SERP positions will be not so good as they are now for some time. We also have an old idea to remove www from our domain name. It seems, it's the right time to do these two works together with publishing the website with updated contents. Or is it better from SEO perspective first publish the new contents, and only after some time, when our SERP positions will return to prior results, tell Google that the domain name without www is our preferred domain name?

  • My Computer in Ubuntu?

    I was wondering if Ubuntu has an equivalent to the Windows feature "My Computer", which lists all available drives/storage devices. Typically, My Computer shows C:, which can be opened to view all of your directories and files. At this point, it is very similar to Ubuntu's Home Folder, but I am looking for something that allows me to view/select all available HDD's/Partitions. Here's my reason: I found a 6gb IDE HDD in my basement, and got an IDE cable for it. My desktop computer has a SATA drive in it, but has an IDE slot, so I wanted to plug it in and see what might be on it. The drive seems to be recognized in BIOS, but I can't find it in Ubuntu to view files, and Ubuntu is the only OS on that particular computer. If anyone has any ideas as to how to view the contents of that drive WITHOUT formatting it or tampering with the contents in any way, I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!

  • Setting up fastcgi on an Ubunutu server (socket file permissions issue)

    I am trying to set up mod_fcgid on my server. Part of the requirement is that Apache needs to create a socket file for mod_fcgid. I specified the folder for Apache to write the socket data to: /var/run/apache2/fcgid I then specified this file in my fcgid.conf file as follows: SocketPath /var/run/apache2/fcgid/sock I then changed the owner of the folder to www-data (the apache user) and gave the owner full permissions to the folder and its contents. I was able to run my test fcgi app then. When I rebooted the machine, y fastcgi app no longer worked. After some investigation, I found that ownership of /var/run/apache2/fcgid has been reset to root, and with permission reset to 700 I have the following questions: Is there something specific about the /var/run folder? why is the permissions being reset after a reboot? Should I move my socket file to another location (in case root automatically takes ownership of contents in this folder for security reasons?) I am running Ubuntu 10.0.4 LTS 64 bit

    There are more than 10 categories in my site, users can register more than one category. My php script prepare contents of each category, according to user preference my script merge those contents for each user. so every user can get what category they want. Problem is I want to send 340+ mails per hour and dreamhost dont allow. What do you suggest? I think to a service like mailchimp but I couldnt find that scenario, do they support category & content etc. Can I use smtp in dreamhost?

  • Does Ubuntu One offer Windows Live Sync type services?

    I'm an Ubuntu convert from Windows and I'm liking it very much. One of the few things I miss in Windows is their Live Sync. I don't know what it's like now or whether it still exists, but at the time (2008/2009), Windows Live Sync lets you sync folders between computers without uploading contents on their server. That is, only the metadata of the subscribed folders are uploaded (things like changelog etc.). I really liked that, and I was wondering if Ubuntu One has an option that does the same thing? At the moment it only seems to have the option to upload all file contents on the web, and I'd rather not do that. If Ubuntu One doesn't have the service similar to Windows Live Sync as described above, then I really recommend it. I would greatly appreciate it if someone can point me to the right place to make my recommendations. Thanks in advance!

  • Ubuntu crashed during the update to 12.04, not I can't recover my files, help please

    I'm pretty new to Linux and I've only installed Ubuntu as I couldn't afford to buy Windows, worked well and I liked it. But I chose to upgrade it to the newest version after a prompt. The update froze and the machine was unresponsive which forced me to hard reboot it. Now nothing seems to load and I've reached my wits end (mainly cos I'm lost in all the command lines). I've decided to try and recover my data from the hard drive, only two folders, by selecting the try Ubuntu option when I insert the OS CD into the machine. The problem I'm experiencing now is it won't let me copy my folders, I get a 'The folder contents could not be displayed. You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "folder_name".' Does anyone know how I can recover this data?

  • Mount points disappear from network share directory listing

    When browsing a network share which contains volume mount points, said mount points disappear from the directory listing. The mount points are still accessible directly by path, just not present in the directory listing. The machine is a Vista SP1 32 bit machine. It has a network share that contains volume mount points to the volumes of the Vista machine (created using the SetVolumeMountPoint API). When browsing the network share from another computer (either Win7 64 bit, Win7 32 bit or Vista SP1 32 bit) using Windows Explorer the following problem occurs: First, both volume mount points called C, D appear fine. I browse into directory C and see all its contents properly. I go back to the root of the shared folder and now I only see D. C has disappeared from the directory listing. I enter D and see all its contents. Go back to the root of the shared folder and now it's empty. D disappeared as well. If I manually go to \\<path to shared folder>\C from the address bar - then all is fine and I can browse its contents (same with D). The same issue does NOT occur when creating a similar share with volume mount points on Windows XP SP2 or SP3. Has anyone came across this problem? Any ideas how to work around it?

    I have been playing around with the /etc/asterisk directory, installing the related pacakge (asterisk-config), removing it, removing the directory manually (just playing around to get the configuration synced to my configuration repo). Now I just want to reinstall the official package, so I do: root@tethys:/etc# apt-get install asterisk-config root@tethys:/etc# tree asterisk/ asterisk/ +-- manager.d What?! Empty?!? So, what have I done that the package will get installed, but the contents are nowhere to be seen? And, more importantly, how can I force the contents to be installed, no matter what I have done before?

    I am facing an issue with the ProxyPass on my Apache server on Ubuntu. I have configured Apache to deal with Virtual Hosts on my server. There is an application with runs on the server and uses ports 8001 8002. I need to do something like www.example.com/demo/origin to display the contents that I would see when I visit www.example.com:8000. The contents to be displayed are a host of HTML pages. This is the section of the virtual host config that has issues ProxyPass /demo/vader http://www.example.com:8001/ ProxyPassReverse /demo/vader http://www.example:8001/ ProxyPass /demo/skywalker http://www.example.com:8002/ ProxyPassReverse /demo/skywalker http://www.example.com:8002/ Now when I visit example.com/demo/skywalker, I see the first page of port 8002, say the login.html page. The second should have been www.example.com/demo/skywalker/userAction.html, instead the server shows www.example.com:8000/login.html. In the error logs I see something like: [Mon Nov 11 18:01:20 2013] [debug] mod_proxy_http.c(1850): proxy: HTTP: FILE NOT FOUND /htdocs/js/demo.72fbff3c9a97f15a4fff28e19b0de909.min.js I do not have any folder htdocs in the system. This is only an issue while viewing .html pages. Otherwise, no such issue occurs. When I visit localhost:8001 it will show any and all contents without any errors or issues. www.example.com/demo/skywalker displays a separate webpage www.example.com/demo/origin displays a different webpage and www.example.com/demo/vader displays a different webpage. I have also tried to use one more type of combination, <Location /demo/origin/> ProxyPass http://localhost:8000/ ProxyPassReverse http://localhost:8000/ ProxyHTMLURLMap http://localhost:8000/ / </Location> This fails as well. I would greatly appreciate if anyone can help me resolve this issue.

  • Installing GitHub for Mac - "Github cannot be opened because of a probem"

    I'm trying to get started using Git for Mac, but I receive an error when I try to run the program. I'm new to GitHub and relatively new to Mac. First, I installed Git using the downloadable .dmg file named "git-1.7.12.3-intel-universal-snow-leopard". I ran the .pkg file contained therein and the install seemed to work fine. I'm using a new macbook pro w/ retina. Then I downloaded the Github for Mac installer, "mac_GitHub for Mac 69.zip". When I double-click the file, it shows that there is a single file of type "Application". Double-clicking that application file produces the error: "GitHub cannot be opened because of a problem". Here are the partial details of that error: Application Specific Information: dyld: launch, loading dependent libraries Dyld Error Message: Library not loaded: @executable_path/../Frameworks/Rebel.framework/Rebel Referenced from: /Applications/GitHub.app/Contents/MacOS/GitHub Reason: no suitable image found. Did find: /Applications/GitHub.app/Contents/MacOS/../Frameworks/Rebel.framework/Rebel: file too short /Applications/GitHub.app/Contents/MacOS/../Frameworks/Rebel.framework/Rebel: file too short Any help would be much appreciated.   • Need to find jni.h in cmake on Mac

    I am trying to make VTK compile on a Mac Air machine. I am using CMake 2.8-9, using Xcode4 as the generator. If I press the Configure button with VTK_WRAP_JAVA not checked, it will go with no errors. However I definitely need to use the wrap java since my main program is in Java and I need to get to VTK which is c++. As soon as I check the wrap Java, I get Could NOT find JNI. It apparently is looking for jni.h which in Linux there is no problem finding, but in the Mac it apparently can't find it. I did a locate jni.h and got new-host-2:~ geraldkolodny$ locate jni.h /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.7.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Headers/jni.h /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.8.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Headers/jni.h /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_07.jdk/Contents/Home/include/jni.h I tried to manually put into JAVA_INCLUDE_PATH2 either entry 2 or 3 (without the jni.h at the end), but it still can't find jni.h. Xcode used to have a template for jni but that is now gone in the latest version. I am fresh out of ideas on how to solve this problem. I'd be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks, Ilan

    My server is CentOS 5. When I edit /etc/crontab or edit any user(including root) crontab via "crontab -e" command, it just adds "(system) RELOAD (/etc/crontab)" or "(admin) RELOAD (cron/admin)" in the log. No CMD in the /var/log/cron. Sample entry in /var/log/cron: Aug 10 10:21:33 localhost crontab[31688]: (root) BEGIN EDIT (root) Aug 10 10:21:42 localhost crontab[31688]: (root) REPLACE (root) Aug 10 10:21:42 localhost crontab[31688]: (root) END EDIT (root) Aug 10 10:22:01 localhost crond[2688]: (root) RELOAD (cron/root) Result of "service crond status": crond (pid 1345) is running... The command "cat /var/log/messages | grep cron" does not give anything.     I am launching an Amazon EC2 instance (Windows Server 2012), and on startup (though User Data field), it runs this powershell script: <powershell> NET CONFIG SERVER /AUTODISCONNECT:-1 # clear all prior connections net use * /delete /y > C:\delLog.txt 2>&1 # mount new drive net use R: \\dbHost\share /user:username pass /persistent:yes > C:\useLog.txt 2>&1 ipconfig /all > C:\ipLog.txt </powershell> When it launches and I connect to it through RDP, it shows in explorer "Diconnected Network Drive (R:). If I double click it, error message displays "R:\ is not accesible. Access id denied". Normally, it would ask me for credentials to reconnect. I need for this drive to be connected through the duration of the instance. delLog.txt contents: You have these remote connections: T: \\dbHost\share Continuing will cancel the connections. The command completed successfully. useLog.txt contents: The command completed successfully. ipLog.txt contents as expected. The net use commands works fine by itself, it connects. Anyone have any idea what could be wrong? There is only one account on these machines - Administrator. It is a samba share to a Linux server on a private network.

    I have a customized live fedora 12 USB which is working fine. What i want to do is to make a partition of my hard disk bootable so that my customized fedora can be run from hard disk. To accomplish this i did the following steps: Created a primary partition(/dev/sda2) and format it as ext3 and set it as active. Copy all the files in the live usb to /dev/sda2. Following are the live usb contents(all directories): a. boot b. EFI c.   • Drive security settings in Windows 8 Pro

    My PC OS is Windows 8 Pro x64. Windows 8 seems confusing. D:\ drive is supposed to be used solely by a single user, who is in Users group of the PC. The requirement is... that user will have full control of D drive. Admins will have full control of D drive. All other users can only list drive contents. No file could be opened. My account is admin account. From D drive's property Security tab, I've set the following: Allow "List folder contents" for Authenticated Users group. Allow "Full control" for SYSTEM. Allow "Full control" to specific user, who's supposed to use the drive. Allow "Full control" for Administrators group of the computer. Allow "List folder contents" for Users group. After setting this up, the specific user have full control of D drive. No other user can open any file on D drive. But though my account is an admin account, no file on D drive could be opened from my account! Why is this happening and how files can be opened from my account? Note: All accounts in this PC are local accounts.

    I'm trying to use Ditto on the Ditto documentation. If I were to copy the table of contents, then paste it (without Ditto) to the word processor, I get http://i.imgur.com/V1GU3.png, and the formatting is maintained. As as a result of the copy operation, the table of contents also goes into the Saved Items List (= History List = Lists the Clips saved from the Clipboard) in Ditto’s Main Window: I open a blank document to paste from Ditto instead of the default clipboard, and press either Ctrl-`, the default Ditto window activation Global Hot Key, or click the tray icon. From this point, I can do 3 things to close the Ditto window, and place the item on the clipboard (the default clipboard?). Select the item, and press Enter Put the cursor on the item, and double-click Select the item, and press Ctrl-c 1) and 2) send a right-click where the cursor is, after the Ditto window closes (presumably to have the paste option ready to access?): Ctrl-c just closes the Ditto window. Whichever method is used, the contents are pasted in what I believe is plain text: http://i.imgur.com/mQAZH.png How do I keep the formatting that the default clipboard keeps? Thanks.

When i'm trying to get into foobar.com/dir providing valid username/password pair i get 403 forbidden page instead of that directory contents. www.foobar.com/dir has 777 rights, .httpaswd is chmoded 644.     I want to get the details (contents, user info) of a post that was made on a fan page's stream. I have the post_id variable but don't see any method/api call where I can pass in a post_id to get the post contents. The only thing that seems possible is getting the entire stream and comparing the post_id item by item... which is slow and inefficient. Anyone had this problem or know how to do it?

    Hi. I want to write a batch file that will take the contents of a file, and replace any environment variable references inside the file with the actual environment variable values. Is this possible? Basically, if a file had this: %PROGRAM FILES%\Microsoft SQL Server\ then I would want the file contents to become: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\ after the batch script ran. This is just one example, but I want ALL environment variables to be expanded. Thanks in advance for any help!
