  • Power cycles on/off 3 times before booting properly from cold start, no other issues (New System)

    Relevant Specs: Sapphire 5850, core i7 920, Seasonic x750 power supply, ECS X58B-A2 mobo. From a cold boot, meaning all power totally disconnected at the wall, the system will power on for less than a second and then power off completely. After two seconds of being powered off this will repeat and on the third "attempt" the computer will boot. To be very specific here is what happens: The power is turned on at the wall and on the psu, the orange stdby LED on the mobo is illuminated but the system is 'off'. I hit the power button on the case or on the mobo itself I hear the relay (?) in the psu closing The case light comes on and the mobo power light comes on. The fans start rotating. Immediately after this the I hear some relay click - the power lights extinguish, the fans stop, the stdby light remains on. Less than 2 seconds pass and the cycle repeats without any intervention from me. On the third attempt it boots normally and the machine runs perfectly. If I do a soft reboot or a full shutdown the computer starts normally the next time. It's only if I pull the power cord or flick the switch off on the PSU that I get the cycling again. Basically any time the stdby light on the mobo goes out. I have removed the graphics card and I get the same problem. I have removed the PSU, hotwired it to the ON position and verified voltages on all lines. The relay does not cycle when I do this. If I connect only the 24 pin ATX connector to the mobo and not the 8 pin ATX12V / CPU connector then I will not get the cycling, the fans run, the power light stays on, but obviously the system can't boot. Disconnecting all fans has no effect on the problem. My feeling it that it's something to do with the motherboard like a capacitor that's taking a long time to charge because it's leaking or something along those lines. But I can't imagine what could be 'wrong' with it and only manifest itself as a problem under these very specific circumstances. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Ubuntu 8.04 server is not retaining a static IP address

    I recently setup a linux box running Ubuntu 8.04 (to match another server with 8.04). I need to insure that this box has a static IP address and I changed /etc/network/interfaces to set up the static IP address and when I run sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart it works fine for a while, but always reverts back to 10.0.1.24 after being idle for a while. I also tried stopping/removing the dhcp client, but that didn't help. sudo /etc/init.d/dhcp stop sudo apt-get remove dhcp3-client Here is my /etc/init.d/networking: # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The primary network interface auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 10.0.1.4 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 10.0.1.255 gateway 10.0.1.1 Any thoughts?     Good Morning everyone, I am currently trying to promote my 2012 Server to a Domain Controller but when I am at the first step in the setup I get the Error Message (German, Original Message): [Bereitstellungskonfiguration] Fehler bei der Bestimmung, ob der Zielserver bereits ein Domänencontroller ist: Der Typ [Microsoft.Directory.Services.Deployment.DeepTasks.DeepTasks] wurde nicht gefunden: Vergewissern Sie sich, dass die Assembly, die diesen Typ enthält, geladen ist. (Translated to English): Error while determining, if the Targetserver already is a Domain Controller: The Type [Microsoft.Directory.Services.Deployment.DeepTasks.DeepTasks] was not found: Make sure, that the assembly, that contains this type, is loaded. Thus I can neither Configure the AD-DS nor deinstall them via Server Manager. Any Help how to fix that problem would be greatly appricieated.

  • ActiveSync gives a 401.2 error

    Hello - I've been struggling for a while with a problem with ActiveSync, it is giving 401.2 errors when trying to access the mailboxes. Oddly enough, clients can get to the calendars just fine. I've tried from an Android device as well as the Exchange remote connectivity troubleshooter, same error both times. Here is the configuration: Connectivity through ISA 2006 Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 Basic authentication is on ISA is passing through all authentication directly to the Exchange server The user IS allowed to get to ActiveSync in their Exchange mailbox settings I have tried the following, without success: * Making SSL not required * Enabling Windows Integrated and Digest authentication Here is an example of the errors in the IIS log: OPTIONS /Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync/default.eas - 443 - 192.168.32.18 TestActiveSyncConnectivity 401 2 5 0 Here is what I am seeing in my trace log: ModuleName IIS Web Core Notification 2 HttpStatus 401 HttpReason Unauthorized HttpSubStatus 2 ErrorCode 2147942405 ConfigExceptionInfo Notification AUTHENTICATE_REQUEST ErrorCode Access is denied.   • I cant get rid of apache2

    It's obvious that I am a newbie with server amministration, my goal is to reach the knowledge needed to working with web services. I played with my debian server, and i messed up apache2; Now i want to completely* remove it from the server and then reinstall it as new. *for completely i really mean completely, logs, configurations, settings, everythings! I followed the steps suggested by freedom_is_chaos in this answer, and i guess apache2 is nomore installed, becose if i do apt-get remove apache2 i get this: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package apache2 is not installed, so not removed 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 11 not upgraded. Then, i rebooted the server, and: # netstat -plant Active Internet connections (servers and established) [...] tcp6 0 0 :::80 :::* LISTEN 3467/apache2 [...] WTF? is apache2 still here? So seem: # /etc/init.d/apache2 stop Stopping web server: apache2. But: # update-rc.d remove apache2 update-rc.d: /etc/init.d/remove: file does not exist So, what is happening to my server? How can i completely and truly remove apache2 from my server?

    I have a Debian machine that I have previously installed MySQL on. In an attempt to delete it, I stupidly deleted the directories/files /etc/mysql/, /etc/init.d/mysql, /usr/lib/mysql/, /var/lib/mysql/.   • Helicon ISAPI Rewrite is processing Rewrite Rules for httpd.conf but not .htaccess

    We have Helicon ISAPI Rewrite 3 installed on our Windows 2003 Web server. The RewriteRules work fine in the global file located in the httpd.conf file. The server serves several Web sites and we were hoping to create RewriteRules to apply to specific Web sites. In the IIS Properties for each Web site there exists a separate tab for ISAPI_Rewrite pointing to the .htaccess file for that Web site. No rules applied to the .htaccess files work. Any ideas why the .htaaccess files have no effect.

  • Windows7 and Virtual PC guest copy/paste intermittent delay

    I've been using Virtual PC for some time now and have not had any issues with copy and paste until I upgraded my host to Windows7 64-bit. After the upgrade sometimes when I copy and paste some text there is like a 15-20 second delay before it completes, this is very frustrating when I'm trying to get my work done. The problem seems to be intermittent in nature, it seems to occur when I have not done a copy paste for a while. After the delay occurs copy and paste seem to work at normal speed until I don't copy and paste for a good length of time. My question is, is there any solutions or patches that can fix this copy/paste issue for virtual PC running in a 64-bit windows7 host?

  • Windows 7 Backup not backing up custom library?

    I have created a custom Library under Windows 7 64bit professional to handle my source code. When I tried Windows Backup and Restore for the first time I get the following error Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Source. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)) I've found a thread on the error on the Microsoft answers site. But it appears to be 404 (there is a version in Google's Cache) and the thread starter never gets an answer to his issue that works. The official Microsoft answer on this is This problem is due to one or more profiles under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList with missing ProfileImagePath. To check whether you have missing profiles: Open regedit, navigate to the above registry key. (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList). Expand the list Click on each of the profiles listed. The first 3 profiles should have ProfileImagePath value of %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\SystemProfile, %SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\LocalService, and %SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService respectively. Starting from the 4th profile, the ProfileImagePath should contain path to the user profiles on your machine, such as C:\users\Christine If one or more of the profile has no profile image, then you have missing profiles. To work around this, delete the profile in question (Caution: The registry contains critical settings that are necessary for your system to function properly. Take extra caution while making changes) First, export the ProfileList key for safekeeping. (Right click on the key, choose “Export”, and save it to the desktop.) Right click on the profile in question, choose delete. Try backup again. This does not work for me. Anyone have any idea what is going on here?

  • Default Screensaver on Mac OS X

    Hi, How do I change the default screensaver in Mac OS X using shell. I am writing a script to customize computers that I need to distribute. In particular I would like them all to have the same default screensaver. How could I change this in a script? So far I have done the following: I have a com.apple.screensaver.default.plist file with the screensaver settings I want in it, and in the script I copy it to /Users/guest/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.${UUID}.plist where UUID is the relevant value. I have modified /System/Library/Frameworks/Screensaver.framework/Versions/A/Resources/EngineDefaults.plist to have the screensaver I want as the default settings. But when I open Screensaver settings in System Preferences after running the script, the default screensaver is Flurry! What can I do to make this work? Thanks, ChilisWorld

    I'm trying to draw a power cable in illustrator, I want the cable to have one side dark and the other light with a gradient in the middle, because the cable has curved corners it won't work the usual way. I have tried making an art brush with a gradient in it which definitely didn't give me the effect I was looking for. Do you know anyway I can solve this problem?

  • ISA 2006 refuses VPN DHCP requests as spoofing

    I'm running ISA 2006 with PPTP VPN for my AD-controlled network. DHCP is located on the ISA server itself and authentication is done by RADIUS (NPS) located on the DC. Right now my VPN clients can connect, access local DNS, and can ping ISA, the DC, and other clients. Here's where it gets weird. I noticed that despite all this, ipconfig shows the following: PPP adapter North Horizon VPN: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : North Horizon VPN Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.42.4.7(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.42.1.10 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled So I went over and checked my ISA logs for both DHCP requests and replies, only to find out that my VPN clients are being denied because ISA thinks its a spoof. Here's some relevant information from the log (the VPN subnet is 10.42.4.0/24): Client IP: 10.42.4.6 Destination: 255.255.255.255:67 Client Username: (blank) Protocol: DHCP (request) Action: Denied Connection Rule: (blank) Source Network: VPN Clients Destination Network: Local Host Result Code: 0xc0040014 FWX_E_FWE_SPOOFING_PACKET_DROPPED Network Interface: 10.42.4.11 --------------------------------------------------------- Original Client IP: 10.42.4.6 Destination: 10.42.1.1 Client Username: (valid user) Protocol: PING Action: Initiated Connection Rule: Allow PING to ISA Source Network: VPN Clients Destination Network: Local Host Result Code: 0x0 ERROR_SUCCESS Network Interface: (blank) I wasn't sure what this 10.42.4.11 network interface was - it certainly wasn't something I had setup - untill I saw it in Routing and Remote Access under IP Routing General as an interface called "Internal" bound to the same IP address. I also noticed that since ISA takes blocks of 10 IP addresses from DHCP for VPN, it had reserved 10.42.4.2-11. I'm not sure if it means anything, though. Thanks for your help.

    I have been playing around with Gnome Shell from ubuntu 9.10. I installed the preview which is available in Ubuntu 9.10 repositories using sudo apt-get install gnome-shell gnome-shell --replace However I can't figure out how to launch Ubuntu Software Center using it. It just appears to be missing. The software center appears fine in normal gnome. How do you launch the Ubuntu Software Center from Gnome Shell. For those of you who are getting confused, Gnome Shell is the next generation user interface for gnome, it is planned for inclusion as default in Gnome 3.0, there is a preview of it in the Ubuntu 9.10 repositories. I am not interested in how to launch Ubuntu Software Center from the terminal or in how to launch it from the normal gnome interface.

How do I give this user permission to do this? So far I have tried adding the user to the Public Folder Management, Domain Admins, and Administrators groups, and running the following scripts in the powershell: Add-PublicFolderAdministrativePermission -Identity "\" -User "Username" -AccessRights AllExtendedRights -InheritanceType SelfAndChildren This appears to have done something, but the user still cannot create public folders in the root public folder. AddUsersToPFRecursive.ps1 -toppublicfolder \ -User "Username" -Permissions Owner This gives me an access denied error. Any ideas?

  • Junos custom-attack signature pattern syntax

    I am stuck at a point with the configuration of a custom-attack signature in Junos. According to the Junos Custom Attack Definition documentation page, I can set up a custom attack based upon a signature in the packet. In the documentation you can specify a "pattern" to match, but it fails to describe what the pattern syntax should be. Particularly, I want to match the HEX values of 8C 00 13 00 in the first four bytes of the TCP data payload. Does anyone know how to accomplish this correctly?

  • Recover a lost IBM DS4300 SAN password?

    I have a pair of IBM DS4300 SAN units that I need to perform a firmware upgrade on. Unfortunately the admin passwords on these units have been lost and now need to be reset. I had hoped the default password of 'infiniti' would work but it seems that it must have been changed. I know the method here is to contact IBM but the cost of that phone call is ludicrous if someone out here knows what they're going to tell me to do. These units are out of warranty and the cost of support is beyond what we have the budget for. Is there an interrupt I can enter during the boot process (similar to a cisco password recovery) or is there a hardware/software tool I require? Please, if anyone has ever gone through the process of an IBM password recovery I’m asking for a little help. EDIT: Just to clarify, the password I need to reset is the one used for serial cable access and not for storage manager. Sorry if I have caused more confusion.

  • Airport Extreme roaming setup

    We've got three Apple AirPort extremes and want to setup them as a roaming wlan network on my company. My question is what's the correct setup for this? All three AP:s is supposed to create the same wireless network "MyWlan" and we want roaming supoprt between them so that client can move from floor to floor without having to switch wlan or reconnect. We don't want to use any kind of DHCP or NAT on the AirPorts, only bridge mode. Do we connect the AirPorts to the lan/ethernet using the WAN port or one of the LAN ports? What's the correct settings in the config utility? Have one of the AirPorts create a network and setup the other two to extend the created network from AirPort 1 or have them all create the same network and set the same wlan password?

  • Windows or Linux for VPN-VPN Bridge

    I have the following network layout: Network1 ----VPN1-----Network2----VPN2----Network3 I can administer everything in Network1 only and my goal is to get to a box on Network3. I've been told by the admins of Network2 that it's not possible for them to route traffic from Network1 to Network3. I've finally been authorised to host a box in Network2 and I'm hoping with this I can set something up to resolve the issue. My question is should I set this up as a Windows or a Linux box. My initial thought was to use iptables to reroute requests but with my lack of experience with Windows Server (used for something or other in Network2) I'm not sure if this will work. My head's full of questions like: - can I get an ip without logging in to a windows domain? - if I do get an ip, do Windows Servers manage routing through the VPN? - can I make a linux box authenticate with Windows Server to log on to the domain? - would it just be easier to set up a windows box? - is it possible to configure a windows box to do routing from Network1 to Network3? Has anyone done anything like this before? Had experience managing Windows Server? Authenticated (or not as the case may be) to a Windows domain? I'd really appreciate your advice. It might be worth mentioning that the overall objective is to establish a telnet connection from a box on Network1 to a box on Network3.

  • Log Location Url Responses of 301 redirects from IIS

    Is there a way to log 301 redirects returned by IIS with the (1) request Url and the (2) location Url of the response? Something like this: Url, Location /about-us, /about /old-page, /new-page The IIS logs contain the Request Url and the status code (301), but not the location Url of the response. Ideally there would be an additional field in the IIS Log called Location that would be populated when IIS responded with a 301. In my case the source of the redirect could be ISAPI Rewrite Rules, ASP.NET applications, Cold Fusion applications, or IIS itself. Perhaps there is a way to log IIS response data?   • Why does my dd backup of MacBook OS X fail to boot upon restore?

    I created a backup of a MacBook hard drive (WD2500BEVS-88US) by hooking it up as a secondary drive on my linux system (Ubuntu 10.10). I used the following command: sudo dd if=/dev/sdc of=/home/backup.img bs=2M This appears to have completed with no errors. I noticed that the file is only 68 GB in size even though the drive is 250 GB in capacity. I restored the image to a spare drive (WD2500BEVS) with the following command: sudo dd if=/home/backup.img of=/dev/sdb bs=2M When I boot the spare drive in the Mac, it appears to start up for a few seconds and then shuts down. (It does not appear to load into the OS at all).   • Open Office crashes, recovers, crashes again

    After completely reinstalling my laptop due to apparent registry corruption, I've encountered a problem with Open Office: I open a simple Calc spreadsheet, it comes up normally, but then after anywhere from 5 seconds to several minutes (without even touching the Calc window) OO crashes, then comes up through recovery. If I let it "recover" it will do so and bring the spreadsheet up again, only to repeat the crash scenario again. If I kept clicking "OK" it would apparently do this all day. I reinstalled OO once and the problem went away for awhile, but it came back. I then attempted to "reset" my profile (ie, rename the OO user directory in App Data), but OO crashed during the first startup after that, then resumed the original behavior. If I open the same file using Excel it complains of errors in the file, and "recovers" them, but the "error report" it generates contains no details. If I save the "recovered" file then OO Calc will open it, but the problem returns after saving again. Any ideas? (The system is Vista SP2, running OO 3.4.1) How to reproduce: Start Open Office Calc. Save workspace as "CrashTest.ods" From Task Manager kill Open Office (soffice.exe/bin -- one of each) Double click on the saved "CrashTest.ods" in Explorer. OO puts up a message that recovery will occur -- allow it. When the Calc window comes up, don't touch it -- just wait about 10 seconds. Calc window closes and OO puts up a message that recovery will occur -- from now on the sequence will repeat. I suspect this behavior is limited to a few (recent) versions of OO, and very possibly only Calc. Reported as Open Office Bug 1211094. Sigh!! As much as it irritates me, I'm having to switch over to Excel for several things I used to do with Calc. Excel has a miserable UI, but at least it says up for longer than 10 seconds.
