  • How to set default date in date_select helper in Rails

    I'm trying to set up a date of birth helper in my Rails app (2.3.5). At present it is like so. <%= f.date_select :date_of_birth, :start_year => Time.now.year - 110, :end_year => Time.now.year %> This generates a perfectly functional set of date fields that work just fine but.... They default to today's date which is not ideal for a date of birth field (I'm not sure what is but unless you're running a neonatal unit today's date seems less than ideal). I want it to read Jan 1 2010 instead (or 2011 or whatever year it happens to be). Using the :default option has proven unsuccessful. I've tried many possibilities including; <%= f.date_select :date_of_birth, :default => {:year => Time.now.year, :month => 'Jan', :day => 1}, :start_year => Time.now.year - 110, :end_year => Time.now.year %> and <%= f.date_select :date_of_birth, :default => Time.local(2010,'Jan',1), :start_year => Time.now.year - 110, :end_year => Time.now.year %> None of this changes the behaviour of the first example. Does the default option actually work as described? It seems that this should be a fairly straightforward thing to do. Ta.

    Hey, I've run into a strange problem regarding default buttons in master pages and IIS7 rewrite module. All my content pages have default buttons set in the code-behind (on prerender), or they are in panels on the aspx page. This works fine on my local machine and on the production server. However, when I enable IIS7 URL Rewrite, the default button is always to the one in the master page. protected void LoginButton_PreRender(object sender, EventArgs e) { Button btnDefault = sender as Button; this.Page.Form.DefaultButton = btnDefault.UniqueID; } That's how I set my default button in the code-behind. I'm not sure what the rewrite module could be doing. Thanks for any help

Some of the properties I wish to set do expose a programmatic interface to 'default', but many others do not. Is there a generic way to set such properties to their default?     In a brand new ASP.NET MVC2 project, I want the user to be redirected to http://<mysite>/home/index rather than http://<mysite>/ We do this with our other sites for tracking purposes, to avoid the scenario where hits to the same default page show up as http://<mysite>/ http://<mysite>/default.aspx How do I accomplish this so that http://<mysite>/ automatically redirects to whatever default controller/action I have set up in my routing? Please note that I am aware the two are functionally equivalent, as the default controller action will be executed either way. I'm just interested in forcing consistent URLs in the browser.

  • Can't set default value of string property to "" in the Xcode CoreData model designer

    I have an entity in my datamodel with a string property that is currently optional, and I'd like to convert this property to a required property with a default value of the empty string. As others have discovered, leaving the default value blank results in validation errors (since the designer interprets this as NULL), but trying '', "", or @"" as the default value results in those literal characters being interpreted as the default, rather than the empty zero-length string, as desired. I did find this thread on Google, however, apart from the solution being really ugly (model definition split between the .xcdatamodel and objc source), it also doesn't work for lightweight migrations because those migrations are done solely based on the .xcdatamodel files and the objc logic from your entity implementations isn't loaded. Is there any way to achieve this in the data model designer?

    Hello, I've been working on writing a SQL statement to create a MySQL database with several default options, including default character set and default collate. Is it possible to add syntax to make the default engine type for tables in this database to be innodb? I've been looking through the MySQL manual for v.5.1 and I've found the statement 'ENGINE=innodb' which would be appended to a CREATE TABLE statement... but I haven't found anything related to a CREATE DATABASE statement. Is there a normal way to do this as part of the database creation, or does it need to be specified on a table-by-table basis? Thanks, Monte

    I have two pages in the first page i have a button called emails. when the user clicks on the email button it will take them to the emails pages and there i have 12 checkboxes and a OK button. the user can select as many checkboxes as they want. the checkboxes have peoples email in them. after they select it they click on the OK button and which will take them to the page1.aspx where they will fill rest of the information out and when they clicked on the emails button and came back to the page1 it will not erase any of their information. I have redirected the page to emails and back to page1 but i don't know how to save the checked emails from the emails page and clicking OK and taking back to the page1 so the other information on that page is already there not been erased.

When using LINQ, I don't provide any data for RegistrationDate column to make it default. But SQL Server raises error. I think LINQ tries to insert NULL into the column. How can I make LINQ not to try to insert in the column RegistrationDate, because it has default value?

    UPDATE 23 Dec I had the problem where Zend Framework complains about "No default module defined for this application". I didn't use Modules and the main app works fine. I finally solved the problem with the help from weierophinney.net Your bootstrap needs to minimally set the controller directory -- do a call to $this->frontController->addControllerDirectory(...) in your appBootstrap() method. I didn't in my example, as my Initialization plugin does that sort of thing for me. The problem is solved by adding the below to setUp() $this->getFrontController()->setControllerDirectory(APPLICATION_PATH . '/controllers'); But now, I have afew other questions: 1. Why does that value not get initialized by application.ini? In application.ini, I have [production] resources.frontController.controllerDirectory = APPLICATION_PATH "/controllers" [testing : production] // didn't change anything regarding modules nor controllers 2. I tried setting the controllerDirectory in bootstrap.php of my unit test, but it does not work $front = Zend_Controller_Front::getInstance(); $front->setControllerDirectory(APPLICATION_PATH . '/controllers'); The only way that works is using setUp(). Why is that? END UPDATE 23 Dec I am getting the above error when unit testing my controller plugins. I am not using any modules. in my bootstrap.php for unit testing, I even tried adding $front = Zend_Controller_Front::getInstance(); $front->setDefaultModule('default'); But it still does not work. I have 2 Questions: I wonder if you have any idea how can I make that after one player clicks on a button and finish his turn, the other player will be able to do a move. After the first player finish his turn I will change the turn by using the database, but the point is how can I refresh the other player's site so when the other one finish his turn, the turn will come to the second player? When someone creates a room and than close his browser - I need that room to be closed. Shall I use the Session_OnEnd to close the room he opened? Thanks!

    Subversion sets a binary file's svn:mime-type property to application/octet-stream by default. I need to change this default to some other mime-type. When I import for the first time this code, I would like Subversion to set mime-type to the one I choose. The reason is that my code base contains code in binary files (proprietary format), and I have the applications necessary to emulate diff and diff3 for these. But Subversion does not let me due to their default mime-type. Please note: There is no default extension (*.jar, *.py, etc) for these code files. Some files don't even have an extension. So configuring mime-type by file extension is not possible.

So I started with this: public partial class MyTextBox : TextBox { public WmlTextBox() { InitializeComponent(); //Font for the whole application can be altered in the Appearance class Font = new Appearance().TextBoxFont; } } I then stripped out all the code in the form that was setting the font of the textboxes. Of course this worked fine until I altered an item on the page. Visual Studio picked up the default font for the application (set in the Appearance class), and generated code in the designer for all TextBoxes to set it to that specific font. How can I stop visual studio from generating code from my default font? I want to allow the developers to change the property, but I want to set the default font centrally.

  • AJAX Partial Rendering issues for the default page in IIS 7 when using custom http module

    The problem When I try to make a AJAX partial update request (using the UpdatePanel control) from the default page of an IIS7 web site, it fails- instead of returning the html to be updated, it returns the entire page, which then causes the MS AJAX Javascript to throw a parsing shit-fit. The suspected cause I have narrowed the cause down to two issues- making an AJAX request to the default page when I have a certain custom http module registered. A partial rendering request to http://localhost will fail, but a partial rendering request to http://localhost/default.aspx will work fine. Also, If i remove the following line in my custom HttpModule: _application.PreRequestHandlerExecute += OnPreRequestHandlerExecute; The AJAX partial render will work correctly. Wierd huh? Another wierd thing... If I look at trace.axd, I can see that when a partial rendering request fails, two POST requests are logged for the one partial rendering request- one where the default.aspx page executes successfully (trace information such as page_load is logged) but no content is produced and a second that doesn't seem to actually execute (no trace information is logged) but produces content (HTTP_CONTENT_LENGTH is greater than 0). Please help! If anyone with a good knowledge of HTTP modules or the MS AJAX Http module could explain why this is occuring I would be very grateful. As it is, the obvious work arround is to just redirect to default.aspx if the request url is "/" but I would really like to understand why this is occurring.

    We have a website developed by ASP.NET+IIS7 and its default document is default.aspx. It works fine. But when we tried to switch the default to index.html, weird things happened. We have modified web.config as follows: <defaultDocument> <files> <clear /> <add value="index.html" /> </files> </defaultDocument> and we have clear everything under C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files``, and restart the worker process. We even changed the name of Default.aspx to dddd.aspx. But everything stays the same when accessing with http://localhost/<MyAppName>/! And when we tried to access with http://localhost/<MyAppName>/index.html, it works fine. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

    Open a new query window. Write some SQL. Save the script, the Save File As dialog box opens - but always to the same default location in the Profiles directory. Is there any way to set my default file location? ...Like I used to do with apps from the 1980s? Under Tools|Options a default location can be specified for query results. I need the same thing for new queries (the text editor). Tried changing locations in the Registry but SSMS just overwrote my changes. Any suggestions? (I saw this unanswered question at http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/30098335/management-studio-default.aspx and I had same exact question so I just reposted it here)

  • IIS 6 ASP.NET default handler-mappings and virtual directories

    I'm having a problem with setting a default mapping in IIS 6. I want to secure *.HTML files with ASP.NET forms authentication. The problem seems to have something to do with using virtual directories to hold the html files. Here's how it's setup: sample directory tree c:/inetpub/ (nothing in here) d:/web_files/my_web_apps d:/web_files/my_web_apps/app1/ d:/web_files/my_web_apps/app2/ d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/ app1 and app2 both access the same html_files directory, so html_files is set as a virtual directory in the web apps in IIS... sample web directory tree //app1/html_files/ (points to physical directory: d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/) //app2/html_files/ (points to physical directory: d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/) If I put a file called test.html in the root of //app1/ and then add the default mapping to the asp.net dll and setup my security on the root folder with deny="?", then accessing test.html works exactly as expected. If I'm not authenticated, it takes me to the login.aspx page, and if I am authenticated then it displays test.html. If I put the test.html file in the html_files directory I get a totally different behavior. Now the login.aspx page loads and I stuck some code in to check if I was still authenticated: <p>autheticated: <%=User.Identity.IsAuthenticated%></p> I figured it would say false because why else would it bother to load the login page? Nope, it says true - so it knows i'm authenticated, but it won't give me access to the test.html file. I've spent several hours on this and haven't been able to solve it. I'm going to spend some more time on google to see if I've missed something. Fingers crossed.

    I have an ASP.NET MVC application where the default page should be an index.html. I can browse to the file using www.mydomain.com/index.html but if I use www.mydomain.com I get a 404. I have check to see if the default document is correctly set in IIS7 and it is and I have even commented out all my routes to ensure it isn't that. Does anyone know how to get ASP.NET MVC to serve the default document?
