• Duplicate ping response when running Ubuntu as virtual machine (VMWare)

  I have the following setup: My router - 192.168.0.1 My host computer (Windows 7) - 192.168.0.3 And Ubuntu is running as virtual machine on the host. VMWare network settings is Bridged mode. I've modified Ubuntu network settings in /etc/netowrk/interfaces, set the following config: iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.0.220 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.0.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 gateway 192.168.0.1 Internet works correctly, I can install packages. Are there any caveats you are aware of in existing search engines for this? I believe mapping foo.example.com to example.com/foo to provide an alternative just in case is a good idea for sitemaps, I like to keep things clean.

  This question already has an answer here: https:// search results appearing on Google for purely http:// site 2 answers Due to historic reasons, we have things set up so that "www.mydomain.com" redirects to "store.mydomain.com". This has worked perfectly fine until recently, when Google appears to be sending visitors to "https:// www.mydomain.com" which doesn't have an SSL-certificate (and never has). Strangely, its only the first link that goes to "https:// www.mydomain.com", all other links point correctly to "http:// store.mydomain.com". Because there is no certificate on the "www" version, users are getting an error message. How do I make Google revert to pointing the main link at "http:// store.mydomain.com" (or even "http:// www.mydomain.com.") If I remove "https:// www.mydomain.com" from Google webmaster tools, will this also remove the redirected page ("http:// store.mydomain.com)? Thanks.

  It is a good practice to leave comments in your code.  Knowing what the hell you were thinking or later intending can be salvation for yourself or the poor soul coming behind you.  Comments can leave clues to why you chose one approach over the other.  Perhaps staged re-engineering dictated that coding practices vary.One thing that should not be left in code as comments is old code.  There are many free tools that left you version your code.  Subversion is a great tool when used with TortoiseSVN.  Leaving commented code scattered all over will cause you to second guess yourself, all distraction to the real code, and is just bad practice.If you have a versioning solution, take time to go back through your code and clean things up.  You may find that you can remove lines and leave real comments that are far more knowledgeable than having to remember why you commented out the old code in the first place.

I'm wondering though; I'm still using the basics so I'm really just a novice, but how much should I rely on Visual Studio to create my elements? Should I make my own text boxes and have my own login routine, or should I just use ASP's login features? I know eventually you have to use your own classes and such which is where the real coding comes in, but I'm not sure how relaible, flexible and secure the pre-wrote elements are?   I'm wondering how best to optimize my Joomla site's SEO. I have pages with multiple articles on each page. Either via category-type pages, or via modules. In each case, I'm not wanting users to access the articles separately from the forward facing, menu-linked pages. I understand however that Joomla still generates a url for those articles, and Google can still crawl and display these articles separate from the pages. My question is what is the best way to control this so that my users get directed only to the front-facing pages? By using the canonical element for each article to point to the front-facing page it's on? Or is there a better method? Thanks for your help!

One of them is what I consider correct and thus it is what I want to appear on my website. The other name is incorrect for me, so I would like to avoid it. But I know that many people will search my product using the "bad" name. How could I get the "bad" name indexed for my site on search engines even if nobody can read it there? Of course, I want to do it "legally" so that no engine will ban my site considering it as cloaking, black hat SEO, etc... EDIT: Having that "bad" name on my backlinks is not an option. For example I would perceive user reviews connecting my site to that word as a negative point. Maybe having my site as a search result for that word could be negative as well, but I think it is worth it.

Using Projection/Model matrices and Glm I am able to move it back and fourth along the axes and rotate it left or right. I'm having trouble with the vector mathematics to make the cube move forwards no matter which direction it's current orientation is. (ie. if I would like, if it's rotated right 30degrees, when it's move forwards, it travels along the 30degree angle on a new axes). I hope I've explained that correctly.   I'd like to copy my exact setup from my computer at work to my computer at home. I'm trying to figure out how to go about doing that. So far I've figured this much out. On the source computer run dpkg --get-selections > installed-software and backup the installed-software file Backup /etc/apt/sources.list Backup /usr/share/applications/ to save all my custom Quicklists Backup /etc/fstab to save all my network mounts Backup /usr/share/themes/ to save the customization I've done to my themes I'm also going to backup my entire HOME directory. Once I get to the destination computer I'm going to first do just a fresh install of 11.10 Then I'll copy over my HOME directory, /etc/apt/sources.list, /usr/share/appications, /etc/fstab and /usr/share/themes/ Then I'm going to run dpkg --set-selections < installed-software Followed by dselect That should install all of my apps for me. I'm wondering if there's a way/need to backup dconf and gconf settings from the source computer? I guess that's my ultimate question. I'd also like any notes on anything else that might need backed up as well before I undertake this project. I hope this post is legit, I figured other people would be interested in knowing this process and I don't see any other questions that seem to really document this on here. I'd also like to further this project and have each computer routinely backup all the necessary files so that both computer are basically identical at all times. That's stage 2 though...

Instead of thinking of a big program, I can, instead, focus on smaller organized parts of my eventual program, and add functionality and build up from there. Thus, I have trouble programming in other languages. Or at least, I have not been able to program in the same ability as I do in Java compared to other languages. I know Javascript has OO principles, so I'd like to learn this language in a OO-based like I would program with Java. Is this possible?

  I am working on a site that takes a governmental data base, provides a number of statistical and other summaries and also post the original data. However this data (mostly long pieces of text) is also published on the official governmental site (without the added value of summaries). Should I worry about google ranking due to this duplication? What is the preferred way to point to the official source of the information? There is no advertisement on my site. My site is ".com". The governmental site is ".bg".
