  • Creating full, global clang+llvm environment

    What is the easiest way to setup full Clang, libc++ and LLVM as default global toolchain? All of my attempts to build it, in most of the configurations I could think of, resulted in working Clang, but it didn't use libc++ headers, but default GCC's libstd++'s ones, resulting in numerous faults in incompatible pieces of library code. I would like it working out of the box, without having to do magic in .bashrc or passing all those -stdlib=libc++ and -lc++ to compiler and linker.

  • ERROR: snapshot_root must be a full path

    I want to use rsnapshot to make backups of some folders on a remote server. I've already setup Key Based Authentication, and I've specified in rsnapshot.conf: snapshot_root [email protected]/ however I get the following error: ERROR: snapshot_root snapshot_root [email protected]/ - snapshot_root \ must be a full path So I was wondering if the only way is to mount first the remote server and how (I'm on Ubuntu 9.04) thanks

  • WinInet Apps failing when Internet Explorer is set to Offline Mode

    Ran into a nasty issue last week when all of a sudden many of my old applications that are using WinInet for HTTP access started failing. Specifically, the WinInet HttpSendRequest() call started failing with an error of 2, which when retrieving the error boils down to: WinInet Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified Now this error can pop up in many legitimate scenarios with WinInet such as when no Internet connection is available or the HTTP configuration (usually configured in Internet Explorer’s options) is misconfigured. The error typically means that the server in question cannot be found or more specifically an Internet connection can’t be established. In this case the problem started suddenly and was causing some of my own applications (old Visual FoxPro apps using my own wwHttp library) and all Adobe Air applications (which apparently uses WinInet for its basic HTTP stack) along with a few more oddball applications to fail instantly when trying to connect via HTTP. Most other applications – all of my installed browsers, email clients, various social network updaters all worked just fine. It seems it was only WinInet apps that were failing. Yet oddly Internet Explorer appeared to be working. So the problem seemed to be isolated to those ‘classic’ applications using WinInet. WinInet’s base configuration uses the Internet Explorer options dialog. To check this out I typically go to the Internet Explorer options and find the Connection tab, and check out the LAN Setup. Make sure there are no rogue proxy settings or configuration scripts that are invalid. Trying with Auto-configuration on and off also can often fix ‘real’ configuration errors. This time however this wasn’t a problem – nothing in the LAN configuration was set (all default). I also played with the Automatic detection of settings which also had no effect. I also tried to use Fiddler to see if that would tell me something. Fiddler has a few additional WinInet configuration options in its configuration. Running Fiddler and hitting an HTTP request using WinInet would never actually hit Fiddler – the failure would occur before WinInet ever fired up the HTTP connection to go through the Fiddler HTTP proxy. And the Culprit is: Internet Explorer’s Work Offline Option The culprit in this situation was Internet Explorer which at some point, unknown to me switched into Offline Mode and was then shut down: When this Offline mode is checked when IE is running *or* if IE gets shut down with this flag set, all applications using WinInet by default assume that it’s running in offline mode. Depending on your caching HTTP headers and whether the page was cached previously you may or may not get a response or an error. For an independent non-browser application this will be highly unpredictable and likely result in failures getting online – especially if the application forces requests to always reload by disabling HTTP caching (as I do on most of my dynamic HTTP clients). What makes this especially tricky is that even when IE is in offline mode in the browser, you can still browse around the Web *if* you have a connection. IE will try to load anything it has cached from the local cache, but as soon as you hit a URL that isn’t cached it will automatically try to access that URL and uncheck the Work Offline option. Conversely if you get knocked off the Internet and browse in IE 9, IE will automatically go into offline mode. I never explicitly set offline mode – it just automatically sets itself on and off depending on the connection. Problem is if you’re not using IE all the time (as I do – rarely and just for testing so usually a few commonly used URLs) and you left it in offline mode when you exit, offline mode stays set which results in the above head scratcher. Ack. This isn’t new behavior in IE 9 BTW – this behavior has always been there, but I think what’s different is that IE now automatically switches between online and offline modes without notifying you at all, so it’s hard to tell when you are offline. Fixing the Issue in your Code If you have an application that is using WinInet, there’s a WinInet option called INTERNET_OPTION_IGNORE_OFFLINE. I just checked this out in my own applications and Internet Explorer 9 and it works, but apparently it’s been broken for some older releases (I can’t confirm how far back though) – lots of posts seem to suggest the flag doesn’t work. However, in IE 9 at least it does seem to work if you call InternetSetOption before you call HttpOpenRequest with the Http Session handle. I never want to see offline operation in an HTTP client API – it’s just too unpredictable in handling errors and the last thing you want is getting unpredictably stale data. Problem solved but this behavior is – well ugly.     How can i setup different power profile settings? For example i want to set low screen brightness when i am on battery power and full brightness when i am not. From "power settings" i can setup brightness but it is persistent no matter what power i use. Is there any software that i can use to prolong my battery power when i use ubuntu?   • How do I start Chrome using a specified "user profile"?

    I use the new built-in "Users" feature of Chrome to switch between Home/Work accounts easily. However, Chrome remembers the "last" user profile you had selected when launching new windows. This is a problem if I close down my "Home" profile last, because when I then click the Email shortcut on my taskbar, because it goes to mail.mycompany.com using my Home profile, and I'm not logged in. I'd like to change the shortcut to the company webmail to pass a switch that tells Chrome to always start as the "Default" user, regardless of the last one used. Note: I have tried user-data-dir, and this seems to do something very different, completely isolated from the Users functionality built in to Chrome. It's possible I'm using it wrong, but please test this before assuming it does the same thing and posting an answer ;-)

  • IIS get full error message for failed requests

    I have IIS set-up and serving my webservice. Unfortunately if the webservice throws an exception, all I get is a blue box with the title failed request. What options do I have to actually see what went wrong? I'd prefer to get the exception message and a stack trace. I already set-up "Failed Request Tracing" but the directory remains empty. If possible I'd prefer to get the stack trace in the browser directly. Just if this matters: I have an IIS 7.5 on a Win 7 64 Pro box. The Webservice is a WCF C# project.

  • Function signature-like expressions as C++ template arguments

    I was looking at Don Clugston's FastDelegate mini-library and noticed a weird syntactical trick with the following structure: TemplateClass< void( int, int ) > Object; It almost appears as if a function signature is being used as an argument to a template instance declaration. This technique (whose presence in FastDelegate is apparently due to one Jody Hagins) was used to simplify the declaration of template instances with a semi-arbitrary number of template parameters. To wit, it allowed this something like the following: // A template with one parameter template<typename _T1> struct Object1 { _T1 m_member1; }; // A template with two parameters template<typename _T1, typename _T2> struct Object2 { _T1 m_member1; _T2 m_member2; }; // A forward declaration template<typename _Signature> struct Object; // Some derived types using "function signature"-style template parameters template<typename _Dummy, typename _T1> struct Object<_Dummy(_T1)> : public Object1<_T1> {}; template<typename _Dummy, typename _T1, typename _T2> struct Object<_Dummy(_T1, _T2)> : public Object2<_T1, _T2> {}; // A. So here are my questions: How exactly does the compiler interpret this construct? Is it a function signature? Or, is it just a text pattern with parentheses in it? If the former, then does this imply that any arbitrary function signature is a valid type as far as the template processor is concerned?   • How to manage focus for a small set of simple widgets

    I'm developing a set of simple widgets for a small (128x128) display. For example I'd like to have a main screen with an overlay menu which I can use to toggle visibilty of main screen elements. Each option would be an icon with a box around it while it is selected. Button (left, up, right, down, enter) events should be given to the widget that has "focus". Focus is a simple thing to understand when using a GUI, but I'm having trouble implementing this. Can you suggest a simple concept for managing focus and input events? I have these simple ideas: Only one widget can have focus, so I need a single pointer to that widget. When this widget gets some kind of "cycle" input (as in "highlight the next item in this list"), the focus is given to a different widget. a widget must have a way of telling the application which widget the focus is given to next. if a widget cannot give a "next focus" hint, the application must be able to figure out where the focus should go. Widgets are currently structured like this: A widget can have a parent, which is passed to the constructor. Widgets are created statically, as I want to avoid dynamic memory allocation (I only have 16kB of RAM and I'd like to have control over that). widgets have siblings, implemented as an intrusive linked list (they have a next member). A parent has a pointer to the head of its list of children. Input events are arguments to the widgets buttonEvent methods which can accept or ignore that event. If it ignores the event, it can pass the event to its parent. My Questions: How can I manage focus for these widgets? Am I making this too complicated?

    I have just installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and I'm unable to get my DSL dialer working properly. To set this up in Windows 7 I had to do following: Control Panel --- Network and Intertnet Network and sharing center --- Setup a new network or connection Connect to the internet --- Broadband PPPoE Enter username and Password.. CLick 'Connect' and Done. I am doing following steps in Ubuntu with no luck: Click on 'Two Arrows' (i don't know what they are called) on upper right corner. Configure VPN --- DSL tab --- Add Then I entered username, password, MAC address and Clone MAC address (copied from Auto Ethernet). Save The same set up used to work with Ubuntu 10.10 but it is not working here. Now whenever I click on DSL Connection 1 to connect dialer 'Auto Ethernet' gets disconneted and I end up with no Internet connection. I am new to Ubuntu, Please suggest some easy steps. I have installed ubuntu alongside windows. And dialer works fine in Windows environment, i am writing this in Windows .

    I'm running Ubuntu server via Hyper-V and have successfully installed it but seem unable to ping the server or ping any other machines on the network from the server. After doing a bit of reading I've noticed that the default gateway isn't set but when I try and set it I keep getting error messages which I can't understand. From this article I've tried ip route add default via 10.0.10.200 Which reports: RTNETLINK answers: Operation not permitted If I try running it prefixed with sudo but it reports: `RNETLINK answers: No such process I've editted /etc/network/interfaces but when I start the machine and type netstat -nr there is nothing listed.
