  • How to override part of an overload function in JavaScript

    - by Guan Yuxin
    I create a class with a function like this var Obj=function(){this.children=[];this.parent=null;}//a base class Obj.prototype.index=function(child){ // the index of current obj if(arguments.length==0){ return this.parent?this.parent.index(this):0; } // the index of a child matchs specific obj [to be override] return -1; } basically it is just an overload function composed of index() and index(child). Then I create a sub class,SubObj or whatever, inherits from Obj SubObj.prototype.prototype=Obj; Now, it's time to override the index(child) function,however, index() is also in the function an I don't want to overwrite it too. One solution is to write like this var Obj=function(){this.children=[];this.parent=null;}//a base class Obj.prototype.index=function(child){ // the index of current obj if(arguments.length==0){ return this.parent?this.parent.index(this):0; } // the index of a child matchs specific obj [to be override] return this._index(this); } Obj.prototype._index=function(this){ return -1; } SubObj.prototype._index=function(this){/* overwriteing */} But this will easily mislead other coders as _index(child) should be both private(should not be used except index() function) and public(is an overload function of index(),which is public) you guys have better idea?

  • DATE function does not support all the dates in DAX by design #powerpivot #tabular #dax

    - by Marco Russo (SQLBI)
    The DATE function in DAX has this simple syntax: DATE( <year>, <month>, <day> ) If you are like me, you never read the BOL notes that says in a clear way that it supports dates beginning with March 1, 1900. In fact, I was wrongly assuming that it would have supported any date that can be represented in a Date data type in Data Models, so all the dates beginning with January 1, 1900. The funny thing is that in some of the BOL documentation you will find that Date data type supports dates after March 1, 1900 (which seems not including that date, but this is a detail…). But we should not digress. The real issue is that if you try to call the DATE function passing values between January 1 and February 28, 1900, you will see a different day as a result. evaluate row ( "x", DATE( 1900, 1, 1 ) ) -- return WRONG result -- [x] 12/31/1899 12:00:00 AM   evaluate row ( "x", DATE( 1901, 2, 29 ) ) -- return WRONG result -- [x] 2/28/1900 12:00:00 AM   evaluate row ( "x", DATE( 1900, 3, 1 ) ) -- return CORRECT result -- [x] 3/1/1900 12:00:00 AM As usual, this is not a bug. It is “by design”. The DATE function works in this way in Excel. And also in Excel it was “by design”. In this case the design is having the same bug of Lotus 1-2-3 that handled 1900 a leap year, even though it isn’t. The first release of Lotus 1-2-3 is dated 1983. I hope many of my readers are younger than that. I tried to open a bug in Connect. Please vote it. I would like if Microsoft changed this type of items from “by design” (as we can expect) to “by genetic disease”. Or by “historical respect”, in order to be more politically correct.

  • LINQ and Aggregate function

    - by vik20000in
    LINQ also provides with itself important aggregate function. Aggregate function are function that are applied over a sequence like and return only one value like Average, count, sum, Maximum etc…Below are some of the Aggregate functions provided with LINQ and example of their implementation. Count     int[] primeFactorsOf300 = { 2, 2, 3, 5, 5 };     int uniqueFactors = primeFactorsOf300.Distinct().Count();The below example provided count for only odd number.     int[] primeFactorsOf300 = { 2, 2, 3, 5, 5 };     int uniqueFactors = primeFactorsOf300.Distinct().Count(n => n%2 = 1);  Sum     int[] numbers = { 5, 4, 1, 3, 9, 8, 6, 7, 2, 0 };        double numSum = numbers.Sum();  Minimum      int minNum = numbers.Min(); Maximum      int maxNum = numbers.Max();Average      double averageNum = numbers.Average();  Aggregate      double[] doubles = { 1.7, 2.3, 1.9, 4.1, 2.9 };     double product = doubles.Aggregate((runningProduct, nextFactor) => runningProduct * nextFactor);  Vikram

  • Javascript autotab function not working on iPad or iPhone [migrated]

    - by freddy6
    I have this this piece of html code: <form name="postcode" method="post" onsubmit="return OnSubmitForm();"> <input class="postcode" maxlength="1" size="1" name="c" onKeyup="autotab(this, document.postcode.o)" /> <input class="postcode" maxlength="1" size="1" name="o" onKeyup="autotab(this, document.postcode.d)" /> <input class="postcode" maxlength="1" size="1" name="d" onKeyup="autotab(this, document.postcode.e)" /> <input class="postcode" maxlength="1" size="1" name="e" /> <br /> </form> which uses this javascript: <script> /* Auto tabbing script- By JavaScriptKit.com http://www.javascriptkit.com This credit MUST stay intact for use */ function autotab(original,destination){ if (original.getAttribute&&original.value.length==original.getAttribute("maxlength")) destination.focus() } </script><script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="js/scripts.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function OnSubmitForm() { if(document.postcode.operation[0].checked == true) { document.postcode.action ="plans.php"; } else if(document.postcode.operation[1].checked == true) { document.postcode.action ="plans_gas.php"; } else if(document.postcode.operation[2].checked == true) { document.postcode.action ="plans_duel.php"; } return true; } </script> As soon a you enter in one character into one of the text boxes it automatically tabs across the the next text box. This works fine on a pc or mac and on safari and also in all other browsers. But when viewing the webpage on an iPad or iPhone (using safari) the auto tabbing function does not work. Any ideas on how to make the auto tab work on these mobile devices?

  • Information about how much time in spent in a function, based on the input of this function

    - by olchauvin
    Is there a (quantitative) tool to measure performance of functions based on its input? So far, the tools I used to measure performance of my code, tells me how much time I spent in functions (like Jetbrain Dottrace for .Net), but I'd like to have more information about the parameters passed to the function in order to know which parameters impact the most the performance. Let's say that I have function like that: int myFunction(int myParam1, int myParam 2) { // Do and return something based on the value of myParam1 and myParam2. // The code is likely to use if, for, while, switch, etc.... } If would like a tool that would allow me to tell me how much time is spent in myFunction based on the value of myParam1 and myParam2. For example, the tool would give me a result looking like this: For "myFunction" : value | value | Number of | Average myParam1 | myParam2 | call | time ---------|----------|-----------|-------- 1 | 5 | 500 | 301 ms 2 | 5 | 250 | 1253 ms 3 | 7 | 1268 | 538 ms ... That would mean that myFunction has been call 500 times with myParam1=1 and myParam2=5, and that with those parameters, it took on average 301ms to return a value. The idea behind that is to do some statistical optimization by organizing my code such that, the blocs of codes that are the most likely to be executed are tested before the one that are less likely to be executed. To put it bluntly, if I know which values are used the most, I can reorganize the if/while/for etc.. structure of the function (and the whole program) to optimize it. I'd like to find such tools for C++, Java or.Net. Note: I am not looking for technical tips to optimize the code (like passing parameters as const, inlining functions, initializing the capacity of vectors and the like).

  • This for array colllision function doesn't work with anything but first object in array

    - by Zee Bashew
    For some reason, this simple simple loop is totally broken. (characterSheet is my character Class, it's just a movieClip with some extra functionality) (hitBox, is basically a square movieclip) Anyway: every time hitBox make contact with a characterSheet in a different order than they were created: Nothing happens. The program only seems to be listening to collisions that are made with o2[0]. As soon as another hitBox is created, it pushes the last one out of o2[0] and the last one becomes totally useless. What's super weird is that I can hit characterSheets in any order I like.... public function collisions(o1:Array, o2:Array) { if((o1.lenght>=0)&&(o2.length>=0)){ for (var i = 0; i < o1.length; i++) { var ob1 = o1[i]; for (var f = 0; f < o1.length; f++) { var ob2 = o2[f]; if (ob1 is characterSheet) { if (ob2.hitTestObject(ob1)) { var right:Boolean = true; if (ob1.x < hitBox(ob2).origin.x) right = false; characterSheet(ob1).specialDamage(hitBox(ob2).damageType, hitBox(ob2).damage, right); }}}}}} Also it might be somewhat helpful to see the function for creating a new hitBox public function SpawnHitBox(targeted, following, atype, xoff, yoff, ... args) { var newHitBox = new hitBox(targeted, following, atype, xoff, yoff, args); badCollisionObjects.push(newHitBox); arraydictionary[newHitBox] = badCollisionObjects; addChild(newHitBox); }

  • Where to add an overloaded operator for the tr1::array?

    - by phlipsy
    Since I need to add an operator& for the std::tr1::array<bool, N> I wrote the following lines template<std::size_t N> std::tr1::array<bool, N> operator& (const std::tr1::array<bool, N>& a, const std::tr1::array<bool, N>& b) { std::tr1::array<bool, N> result; std::transform(a.begin(), a.end(), b.begin(), result.begin(), std::logical_and<bool>()); return result; } Now I don't know in which namespace I've to put this function. I considered the std namespace as a restricted area. Only total specialization and overloaded function templates are allowed to be added by the user. Putting it into the global namespace isn't "allowed" either in order to prevent pollution of the global namespace and clashes with other declarations. And finally putting this function into the namespace of the project doesn't work since the compiler won't find it there. What had I best do? I don't want to write a new array class putted into the project namespace. Because in this case the compiler would find the right namespace via argument dependent name lookup. Or is this the only possible way because writing a new operator for existing classes means extending their interfaces and this isn't allowed either for standard classes?

    - by alter
    if I have a class called Person. var Person = function(fname, lname){ this.fname = fname; this.lname = lname; } Person.prototype.mname = "Test"; var p = new Person('Alice','Bob'); Now, p.proto refers to prototype of Person but, when I try to do Person.proto , it points to function(), and Person.constructor points to Function(). can some1 explain what is the difference between function() and Function() and why prototype of a Function() class is a function()
