  Hello, I have a set of N functions each denoted by Fi(h). Each function returns some value when given an h. I'm trying to figure out a way to maximize the average of all of the functions given some total H value. For example, say each function represents a grade on an assignment. If I spend h hours on assignment i, I will get g = Fi(h) as my grade. I'm given H hours to finish all of the assignments. I want to maximize my average grade for all assignments. Can anyone point me in the right direction to figure this out?

• Strange findFn malfunction

  I noticed a strange malfunction in using findFn function (library sos) and I can't find out the source. While it works fine on my Windows XP pc, it does not on my Vista one. library (sos) findFn("randomization test") # in both finds 72 results findFn("{randomization test}") # In XP finds 19 or about so, but in Vista whenever I use {} and more than one word inside, # I keep getting the following: found 0 matches x has zero rows; nothing to display. Warning message: In findFn("{randomization test}") : HIT not found in HTML; processing one page only. R ver = 2.10.1 and packages updated. Any ideas where the problem might be? Bonus: As it's obvious, I was looking for functions about tests for randomized experiments

• my .jar file won't do anything.

  I created a program that more or less holds an array of strings as an object and randomly prints one. so basicaly class Happy { string[] namestrings = new string[#] constructor() { fill with some strings} public static void main (String[]arg) { create instance of class do some junk with it method that prints it } method that prints it {} another method } when i compile and run it on the command line it works fine but when on the comand line i type in jar -cf Happy.jar Fun.class i get a .jar file called Happy and when i click on it i get an error message that reads "the java Jar file happy could not be launched read the consol for possible error messages" I have a mac i'm running lepord if that makes a diference. Whats going on?

Both at this point definatly have a value neither is null. Can anyone please tell me whats going wrong?

Is this legal and i'm just making some syntax error that i can't see (thus causing the error message) or can what i'm trying to do just not be done?

  I realize this is a basic question but I have searched online, been to cplusplus.com, read through my book, and I can't seem to grasp the concept of overloaded operators.   I recently created a .html file in text edit on my mac (os x 10.5.8). I then opened that .html file in my browser and it showed the page i created just fine. I closed the .html file and text edit and refreshed the page. It still worked fine. Then i opened up the .html file in text edit again and all the text was gone (the page in the browser still works fine though). Where did all the text go?

  I have tried every way I can find but the background is always black. Is there any way to keep the transparency of the first image when GD ises it in PHP? • Powershell Select-Object from array not working

  I am trying to seperate values in an array so i can pass them to another function. Am using the select-Object function within a for loop to go through each line and separate the timestamp and value fields. However, it doesn't matter what i do the below code only displays the first select-object variable for each line. The second select-object command doesn't seem to work as my output is a blank line for each of the 6 rows. • jquery dialog is clearing my form fields and I need to return a value from a jquery dialog

  1.) I have a jQuery dialog that is opened whenever a particular textbox is focused. The dialog's contents are loaded from ajax and the unique ID of the textbox that was focused is passed in the ajax call (like this): $('[name=start_airport[]],[name=finish_airport[]]').click(function(){   var id = $(this).attr('id');   if($('#use_advanced_airport_selector').attr('checked')) {     $('#advanced_airport_selector').dialog({       open : function() {         $(this).load('/flight-booker/advanced-airport-selector.php?callerID='+id);       }     });     $('#advanced_airport_selector').dialog('open');   } }); (where advanced_airport_selector is an empty div) THAT PART WORKS FINE. However, when I make my ajax call within my dialog, all my form values are reset! No matter what I do, when that dialog opens, all form values are reset (not just the value of the textbox that was focused). I simply don't understand what would cause this behavior! But that's only issue #1. 2.) I need to be able to return a value from that dialog box. I am passing the ID in the ajax query so that I can use a jquery selector to update the caller's value after certain actions are performed within the dialog box. However, I can't actually access that textbox because of DOM_ERRORS that I've never come across. It doesn't make any sense! There's way to much code to post, and it's really hard to explain, so sorry if I'm unclear as to what I'm asking.

• initWithCoder breaking my touch events (touchBegan, touchMoved, etc)

  So I have a UIView that has been setup, and in each touch event handler I have an NSLog fire off a message to the console. - (void) touchesBegan:(NSSSet*)touches withEvent:(UIEvent*)event { NSLog(@"touchesBegan"); } And that pretty much works as expected. But once I implement initWithCoder (even blank) - (id)initWithCoder:(NSCoder*)coder { return self; } I no longer receive the message to my console (or can hit breakpoints obviously). This is my first app so I'm probably missing something dumb, but I've looked through various example apps and I don't appear to be missing any code that would re-enable touch events.

  I have created a file named "MyFile.db" using SQLite3 from my C#.net application. This file got created in my "D:\MyProject\bin" folder. I have created a table named "MyTable" inside "MyFile.db" from same C# app. Now I am running sqlite3.exe from my "C:\" drive to get Command Line Shell For SQLite. How can I get the file "D:\MyProject\bin\MyFile.db" in the SQLite Command Line Shell i.e, how can I locate the file "MyFile.db" in the command shell to get the data from "MyTable".
