  • jQuery - Ajax post result in html displaying in wrong position

    I have a site with user posted threads that get voted on (up or down), and a vote count is displayed next to each thread. The voting up and down process is being done through jQuery/Ajax, and using something like this: $.ajax({ url: 'vote.php', success: function(data) { $('.result').html(data); } }); the html of the vote count is being updated (.result being the class of the div that holds the vote count number) Also, the threads are being sorted first by vote count descending, and then alphabetically. I'm having a problem with the ajax updating the HTML vote count in real time, i have a hunch that the issue is due to the fact that the order of the threads are changing when the vote count is being updated, but I'm not certain. I know the database is being updated, and when I refresh the page, it's also being updated correctly, but I'm not seeing the real-time behavior that I expect from jQuery/Ajax. What might be the problem?

  • PHP see POST/GET values made to script dynamically

    Hi, I've been testing a PHP script that I'm posting values to every few seconds (latitude and longitude to be specific) and am wondering if there's an easier way to see what values are being sent to the script. Right now I'm writing the data to a txt file on my server, and refreshing the page every so often to see what values have been posted recently. Is there a way to just see what's going on behind the scenes (in terminal, perhaps)? Thanks.

  • Server returns 500 error only when called by Java client using urlConnection/httpUrlConnection

    Hi - I'm having a very strange problem. I'm trying to call a servlet (JSP) with an HTTP GET and a few parameters (http://mydomain.com/method?param1=test&param2=123). If I call it from the browser or via WGET in a bash session, it works fine. However, when I make the exact same call in a Java client using urlConnection or httpURLConnection, the server returns a 500 error. I've tried everything I have found online including: urlConn.setRequestProperty("Accept-Language", "en-us,en;q=0.5"); Nothing I've tried, however, has worked. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the server I'm calling so I can't see the logs.   • Use Cherokee Instead of nginx in Front of Varnish to Get HTTP 1.1 Optimizations?

    We have been running nginx - uWSGI, and now we are evaluating putting Varnish as a caching layer between nginx and uWSGI (similar to http://www.heroku.com/how/architecture). But, nginx only supports HTTP 1.0 on the back so it will have to create new connections with Varnish for each request. Many recommend running nginx in front of Varnish, but wouldn't it make much more sense to use something like Cherokee so that you eliminate the HTTP connection overhead since it supports HTTP 1.1 on the back?

    In IIS 7, is there a way to set two urls on the same site to allow http and https, and the rest to be https only? - http://mysite/url1 or https://mysite/url1 is accepted and stays on that protocol. - http://mysite/url2 or https://mysite/url2 is accepted and stays on that protocol. - any other item, i.e. http://mysite/whatever redirects to https://mysite/whatever - https://mysite/whatever is accepted.     Every now and then you come across a problem when there is nothing in the "troubleshooting manual" which can help you. Instead you need to think outside the box. This happened to me two or three years back. Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) 11g did not start. The error reported back by OPMN was generic and gave no clue, and worse the HTTP Server error log was empty, and remained so even after I had increased the OPMN and HTTP Server log levels. After checking configuration files, operating system resources, etc I was still no nearer the solution. And then the light bulb moment! OHS is based on Apache - what happens if I attempt to start HTTP Server using the native apache command. Trouble was the OHS 11g solution has its binaries and configuration files in separate "home" directories ORACLE_HOME contains the binaries ORACLE_INSTANCE contains the configuration files How to set the environment so that native apache commands run without error? Eventually, with help from a colleague, the knowledge articleHow to Start Oracle HTTP Server 11g Without Using opmnctl [ID 946532.1]was born! To be honest, I cannot remember the exact cause and solution to that OHS problem two or three years ago.     Hi all, after reading the SOAP specs, it states that a SOAP Fault should return a http 500 errorcode, so when a SoapException is thrown, WCF returns a 500 error code. Now, I'm looking for some best practices to when return a functional soap error message and when to return a SOAP Fault. What would you guys return when a functional error occurred while processing the message because of the input message contains some functional errors, a 500 SOAP Fault or a 200 Soap response containing some error message ?
