  • How to include space in drive label using command-line MS format?

    - by Leif Carlsen
    The obvious-to-me approaches fail. # format h: /fs:ntfs /q /y /V:512MB Disk Invalid parameter - Disk # format h: /fs:ntfs /q /y /V:"512MB Disk" Invalid parameter - Disk" # format h: /fs:ntfs /q /y /V:"512MB\ Disk" Invalid parameter - Disk" # format h: /fs:ntfs /q /y /V:512MB\ Disk Invalid parameter - Disk Okay, so label works after-the fact. # label h: 512MB Disk # But how to do it using format? Am I missing some kind of escape sequence?

  • Generate or update a PDF to include an encrypted, hidden watermark?

    - by Dave Jarvis
Background Using LaTeX to write a book. When a user purchases the book, the PDF will be generated automatically. Problem The PDF should have a watermark that includes the person's name and contact information. Question What software meets the following criteria: Applies encrypted, invisible watermarks to a PDF Open Source Platform independent (Linux, Windows) Fast (marks a 200 page PDF in under 1 second) Batch processing (exclusively command-line driven) Collusion-attack resistant Non-fragile (e.g., PDF - EPS - PDF still contains the watermark) Well documented (shows example usages) Ideas & Resources Some thoughts and findings: Natural language processing (NLP) watermarks. Apply steganography on a randomly selected image. http://openstego.sourceforge.net/cmdline.html The problem with NLP is that grammatical errors can be introduced. The problem with steganography is that the images are sourced from an image cache, and so recreating that cache with watermarked images will impart a delay when generating the PDF (I could just delete one image from the cache, but that's not an elegant solution). Thank you!

  • On Windows 7, how can I make the Start Menu search feature include matches from within words, not just the start of the word?

    - by Gabriel
I have a program installed called WinSCP. When I press the Windows key and type "SCP", I get "No items match your search." Is there a configuration option I can set somewhere, so that this item will be found? I'm not looking for a specific solution for this particular program, but something general, so that if there's a program named XYZ, I can find it via the Start Menu search by entering YZ. EDIT TO ADD: I'm looking for a "set-it and forget-it" type of configuration change, so that within-word searching happens always, automatically. I don't want to have to type a * before every query. Apparently this wasn't clear from what I wrote above.

  • Installing SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 *after* installing SQL 2012 RC0 - machine.config path include double slashes?

    - by Sigmund
I'm trying to install SQL Compact 3.5 SP2 after I've installed SQL 2012 RC0, on a x64 Windows 7. The x86 installer goes through fine. The x64 installer fails, with the error: "Error 25543.Failed to save changes to XML file c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\CONFIG\machine.config, system error: -2147024864" Note the \CONFIG (double backslash) where there should be a single backslash... any ideas why this is happening and how to solve it?

  • Windows 7 - SBS - Why does copying a directory not include all subdirectories and files?

    - by indeed005
Using Windows 7, fully updated... I have had some strange behaviour copying a whole user directory (e.g. "c:\users\bob" to "c:\backups\bob") I understand now that I should have used Easy Transfer or at least robocopy, but at the time all I wanted to do was backup the user's data before using the "Delete account" button. Unfortunately, I didn't check that my copy-paste had actually worked; all it had actually done was copied the appdata subdirectory of the user account. At the time of doing this backup I was logged in as the same user, bob (a local admin) in this example. When I discovered the missing files, I tried again using the domain admin account -- same story. Only appdata copied. No documents folders, nothing else. Then my boss tried, and it worked fine -- it copied all the files. Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V. I tried again... same profile... copied all the files. Same profile, same destination, same rights and permissions, same ownership, but different behaviour. Has anyone encountered this before and come up with a solution? BTW this was not using roaming profiles and the accounts are stored locally.

  • when to upgrade server to include more cores, versus more processors, versus additional server?

    - by gkdsp
The server hosting market is separated into single, double, qual, etc., processors, where each processor has several cores, or CPUs. My company will offer a Linux-based web application that relies on an Apache web server and a middle tier for business logic. The middle tier is used to crunch math, and return result to a client. Many clients may access the application simultaneously. The company will start with one processor having 4 cores. I'm trying to understand how the app uses the cores and then how to scale the application as business grows, in terms of servers/processors/cores. For example, I'd assume initially one core would be used for Apache, and the other 3 used to process client's requests for math crunching... Question 1: does that mean, with the 3 cores available, I can handle 3 separate client requests simultaneously (e.g. 1 for each of 3 cores)? I mean, except for the shared RAM, is this effectively like having 3 individual machines (from pt of view or processing client requests simulaneously)? Or, only one client's request may be processed at any one time, but that client's request is divided up into up to 3 cores depending on the type of process running that does the math crunching and whether or not it can take advantage of multi threading (so the # of cores impacts how fast any one client request completes)? I'm confused about what the cores mean to the application here. Question 2: As the business grows and more client requests need to be processed, should the server be upgraded to (A) a new machine with more cores, (B) a new machine with two processors, 4 cores each, or (C) keep the original server and add another server with a single processor? Which route provides the most efficient way to scale the application, in terms of processing more client requests per time interval? Is the choice, for example, limited by RAM (when you need more RAM than box can handle it's time to add another server), or something else? Question 3: Is the total number of client requests processed simultaneously equal to the number of cores times the number of servers (minus the one core for Apache)?

  • which file search utilities also include a preview of found lines?

    - by jcollum
I've searched for this and haven't found it, maybe I'm not using the right terms. I'm looking for a file search utility in Windows 7 that will: search for files in specific directories search for file contents preview found lines (preferably with a couple of lines around the found line) save search terms as presets (like *.aspx.cs or *.cs or a combination of the two) search in office documents Notepad++ will do this but I'm looking for something that also adds indexing so it's faster. Locate32 does most of it, but doesn't have a preview. Seems that all of the file search utilities that I've found don't do what I want.

  • How can I include a line until # but without the # when parsing 'sources.list' with regex?

    - by stwissel
I want to parse my sources.list to extract the list of repositories. I have: ## Some comment deb http://some.vendor.com/ubuntu precise stable deb-src http://some.vendor.com/ubuntu precise stable deb http://some.othervendor.com/ubuntu precise experimental # my current favorite I want: http://some.vendor.com/ubuntu precise stable http://some.othervendor.com/ubuntu precise experimental So I need: only lines with deb at the beginning and until the end of the line or a # character but excluding it. So far I have: grep -o "^deb .*" But how to match # or LineEnd and excluding the #?

  • Securing Web Service communication with SSL using CXF

    - by reef
Hi all, I am trying to secure communications via SSL/TLS for one of our Web Service using CXF 2.2.5. I am wondering how to update client and server Spring configuration file to activate this feature. I found some information on CXF's website (CXF Wiki) for the client configuration, here is the given example: <http:conduit name="{http://apache.org/hello_world}HelloWorld.http-conduit"> <http:tlsClientParameters> <sec:keyManagers keyPassword="password"> <sec:keyStore type="JKS" password="password" file="src/test/java/org/apache/cxf/systest/http/resources/Morpit.jks"/> </sec:keyManagers> <sec:trustManagers> <sec:keyStore type="JKS" password="password" file="src/test/java/org/apache/cxf/systest/http/resources/Truststore.jks"/> </sec:trustManagers> <sec:cipherSuitesFilter> <!-- these filters ensure that a ciphersuite with export-suitable or null encryption is used, but exclude anonymous Diffie-Hellman key change as this is vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks --> <sec:include>.*_EXPORT_.*</sec:include> <sec:include>.*_EXPORT1024_.*</sec:include> <sec:include>.*_WITH_DES_.*</sec:include> <sec:include>.*_WITH_NULL_.*</sec:include> <sec:exclude>.*_DH_anon_.*</sec:exclude> </sec:cipherSuitesFilter> </http:tlsClientParameters> <http:authorization> <sec:UserName>Betty</sec:UserName> <sec:Password>password</sec:Password> </http:authorization> <http:client AutoRedirect="true" Connection="Keep-Alive"/> </http:conduit> Concerning this configuration, the Concerning the server side configuration I am unable to launch the server properly, here is the configuration I have: <http:destination name="{urn:ihe:iti:xds-b:2007}DocumentRepository_Port_Soap12.http-destination"> </http:destination> <httpj:engine-factory> <httpj:engine port="9043"> <httpj:tlsServerParameters> <sec:keyManagers keyPassword="changeit"> <sec:keyStore type="JKS" password="changeit" file="security/keystore.jks" /> </sec:keyManagers> <sec:trustManagers> <sec:keyStore type="JKS" password="changeit" file="security/cacerts.jks" /> </sec:trustManagers> <sec:cipherSuitesFilter> <!-- these filters ensure that a ciphersuite with export-suitable or null encryption is used, but exclude anonymous Diffie-Hellman key change as this is vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks --> <sec:include>.*_EXPORT_.*</sec:include> <sec:include>.*_EXPORT1024_.*</sec:include> <sec:include>.*_WITH_DES_.*</sec:include> <sec:include>.*_WITH_NULL_.*</sec:include> <sec:exclude>.*_DH_anon_.*</sec:exclude> </sec:cipherSuitesFilter> <sec:clientAuthentication want="true" required="true" /> </httpj:tlsServerParameters> </httpj:engine> </httpj:engine-factory> But when I run my application server (JOnas) with this configuration I have the following error message: Line 20 in XML document from ServletContext resource [/WEB-INF/beans.xml] is invalid; nested exception is org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: cvc-complex-type.2.4.c: The matching wildcard is strict, but no declaration can be found for element 'httpj:engine-factory'. • Deploy ASP.NET Web Applications with Web Deployment Projects

    - by Ben Griswold
One may quickly build and deploy an ASP.NET web application via the Publish option in Visual Studio.  This option works great for most simple deployment scenarios but it won’t always cut it.  Let’s say you need to automate your deployments. Or you have environment-specific configuration settings. Or you need to execute pre/post build operations when you do your builds.  If so, you should consider using Web Deployment Projects. The Web Deployment Project type doesn’t come out-of-the-box with Visual Studio 2008.  You’ll need to Download Visual Studio® 2008 Web Deployment Projects – RTW and install if you want to follow along with this tutorial. I’ve created a shiny new ASP.NET MVC project.  Web Deployment Projects work with websites, web applications and MVC projects so feel free to go with any web project type you’d like.  Once your web application is in place, it’s time to add the Web Deployment project.  You can hunt and peck around the File > New > New Project… dialogue as long as you’d like, but you aren’t going to find what you need.  Instead, select the web project and then choose the “Add Web Deployment Project…” hiding behind the Build menu option. I prefer to name my projects based on the environment in which I plan to deploy.  In this case, I’ll be rolling to the QA machine. Don’t expect too much to happen at this point.  A seemingly empty project with a funny icon will be added to your solution.  That’s it. I want to take a minute and talk about configuration settings before we continue.  Some of the common settings which might change from environment to environment are appSettings, connectionStrings and mailSettings.  Here’s a look at my updated web.config: <appSettings>   <add key="MvcApplication293.Url" value="http://localhost:50596/" />     </appSettings> <connectionStrings>   <add name="ApplicationServices"        connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"        providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings>   <system.net>   <mailSettings>     <smtp from="[email protected]">         <network host="server.com" userName="username" password="password" port="587" defaultCredentials="false"/>     </smtp>   </mailSettings> </system.net> I want to update these values prior to deploying to the QA environment.  There are variations to this approach, but I like to maintain environment-specific settings for each of the web.config sections in the Config/[Environment] project folders.  I’ve provided a screenshot of the QA environment settings below. It may be obvious what one should include in each of the three files.  Basically, it is a copy of the associated web.config section with updated setting values.  For example, the AppSettings.config file may include a reference to the QA web url, the DB.config would include the QA database server and login information and the StmpSettings.config would include a QA Stmp server and user information. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <appSettings>   <add key="MvcApplication293.Url" value="http://qa.MvcApplicatinon293.com/" /> </appSettings> AppSettings.config  <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <connectionStrings>   <add name="ApplicationServices"        connectionString="server=QAServer;integrated security=SSPI;database=MvcApplication293"        providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>   </connectionStrings> Db.config  <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <smtp from="[email protected]">     <network host="qaserver.com" userName="qausername" password="qapassword" port="587" defaultCredentials="false"/> </smtp> SmtpSettings.config  I think our web project is ready to deploy.  Now, it’s time to concentrate on the Web Deployment Project itself.  Right-click on the project file and open the Property Pages. The first thing to call out is the Configuration dropdown.  I only deploy a project which is built in Release Mode so I only setup the Web Deployment Project for this mode.  (This is when you change the Configuration selection to “Release.”)  I typically keep the Output Folder default value – .\Release\.  When the application is built, all artifacts will be dropped in the .\Release\ folder relative to the Web Deployment Project root.  The final option may be up for some debate.  I like to roll out updatable websites so I select the “Allow this precompiled site to be updatable” option.  I really do like to follow standard SDLC processes when I release my software but there are those times when you just have to make a hotfix to production and I like to keep this option open if need be.  If you are strongly opposed to this idea, please, by all means, don’t check the box. The next tab is boring.  I don’t like to deploy a crazy number of DLLs so I merge all outputs to a single assembly.  Again, you may have another option and feel free to change this selection if you so wish. If you follow my lead, take care when choosing a single assembly name.  The Assembly Name can not be the same as the website or any other project in your solution otherwise you’ll receive a circular reference build error.  In other words, I can’t name the assembly MvcApplication293 or my output window would start yelling at me. Remember when we called out our QA configuration files?  Click on the Deployment tab and you’ll see how where going to use them.  Notice the Web.config file section replacements value.  All this does is swap called out web.config sections with the content of the Config\QA\* files.  You can reduce or extend this list as you deem fit.  Did you see the “Use external configuration source file” option?  You know how you can point any of your web.config sections to an external file via the configSource attribute?  This option allows you to leverage that technique and instead of replacing the content of the sections, you will replace the configSource attribute value instead. <appSettings configSource="Config\QA\AppSettings.config" /> Go ahead and Apply your changes.  I’d like to take a look at the project file we just updated.  Right-click on the Web Deployment Project and select “Open Project File.” One of the first configuration blocks reflects core Release build settings.  There are a couple of points I’d like to call out here: DebugSymbols=false ensures the compilation debug attribute in your web.config is flipped to false as part of build process.  There’s some crumby (more likely old) documentation which implies you need a ToggleDebugCompilation task to make this happen.  Nope. Just make sure the DebugSymbols is set to false.  EnableUpdateable implies a single dll for the web application rather than a dll for each object and and empty view file. I think updatable applications are cleaner and include the benefit (or risk based on your perspective) that portions of the application can be updated directly on the server.  I called this out earlier but I wanted to reiterate. <PropertyGroup Condition=" '$(Configuration)|$(Platform)' == 'Release|AnyCPU' ">     <DebugSymbols>false</DebugSymbols>     <OutputPath>.\Release</OutputPath>     <EnableUpdateable>true</EnableUpdateable>     <UseMerge>true</UseMerge>     <SingleAssemblyName>MvcApplication293</SingleAssemblyName>     <DeleteAppCodeCompiledFiles>true</DeleteAppCodeCompiledFiles>     <UseWebConfigReplacement>true</UseWebConfigReplacement>     <ValidateWebConfigReplacement>true</ValidateWebConfigReplacement>     <DeleteAppDataFolder>true</DeleteAppDataFolder>   </PropertyGroup> The next section is self-explanatory.  The content merely reflects the replacement value you provided via the Property Pages. <ItemGroup Condition="'$(Configuration)|$(Platform)' == 'Release|AnyCPU'">     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\AppSettings.config">       <Section>appSettings</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\Db.config">       <Section>connectionStrings</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\SmtpSettings.config">       <Section>system.net/mailSettings/smtp</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>   </ItemGroup> You’ll want to extend the ItemGroup section to include the files you wish to exclude from the build.  The sample ExcludeFromBuild nodes exclude all obj, svn, csproj, user, pdb artifacts from the build. Enough though they files aren’t included in your web project, you’ll need to exclude them or they’ll show up along with required deployment artifacts.  <ItemGroup Condition="'$(Configuration)|$(Platform)' == 'Release|AnyCPU'">     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\AppSettings.config">       <Section>appSettings</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\Db.config">       <Section>connectionStrings</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\SmtpSettings.config">       <Section>system.net/mailSettings/smtp</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\obj\**\*.*" />     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\**\.svn\**\*.*" />     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\**\.svn\**\*" />     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\**\*.csproj" />     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\**\*.user" />     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\bin\*.pdb" />     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\Notes.txt" />   </ItemGroup> Pre/post build and Pre/post merge tasks are added to the final code block.  By default, your project file should look like the following – a completely commented out section. <!– To modify your build process, add your task inside one of        the targets below and uncomment it. Other similar extension        points exist, see Microsoft.WebDeployment.targets.   <Target Name="BeforeBuild">   </Target>   <Target Name="BeforeMerge">   </Target>   <Target Name="AfterMerge">   </Target>   <Target Name="AfterBuild">   </Target>   –> Update the section to remove all temporary Config folders and files after the build.  <!– To modify your build process, add your task inside one of        the targets below and uncomment it. Other similar extension        points exist, see Microsoft.WebDeployment.targets.     <Target Name="BeforeMerge">   </Target>   <Target Name="AfterMerge">   </Target>     <Target Name="BeforeBuild">      </Target>       –>   <Target Name="AfterBuild">     <!– WebConfigReplacement requires the Config files. Remove after build. –>     <RemoveDir Directories="$(OutputPath)\Config" />   </Target> That’s it for setup.  Save the project file, flip the solution to Release Mode and build.  If there’s an issue, consult the Output window for details.  If all went well, you will find your deployment artifacts in your Web Deployment Project folder like so. Both the code source and published application will be there. Inside the Release folder you will find your “published files” and you’ll notice the Config folder is no where to be found.  In the Source folder, all project files are found with the exception of the items which were excluded from the build. I’ll wrap up this tutorial by calling out a little Web Deployment pet peeve of mine: there doesn’t appear to be a way to add an existing web deployment project to a solution.  The best I can come up with is create a new web deployment project and then copy and paste the contents of the existing project file into the new project file.  It’s not a big deal but it bugs me. • build error with boost spirit grammar (boost 1.43 and g++ 4.4.1)

I'm having issues getting a small spirit/qi grammar to compile. The build stack trace is fugly enought to not make any sense to me (despite some assertion_failed i could notice in there but that didn't brought much information) the input grammar header: • Ethernet Communication Error

    - by SivaKumar
    Hi, I wrote a program to query the status of the Ethernet printer for that i created a TCP Stream Socket and i send the query command to the printer.In case of Error less condition it returns No error status but in error case its getting hang at recv command.Even i used Non blocking now the recv command returns nothing and error set as Resource temporarily unavailable. code: #include <stdio.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <sys/socket.h> #include <netinet/in.h> #include <netdb.h> #include <string.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <arpa/inet.h> #include <errno.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <fcntl.h> #include <sys/ioctl.h> #include <sys/socket.h> #include <signal.h> #include <termios.h> #include <poll.h> #include <netinet/tcp.h> #include <stdarg.h> int main() { int ConnectSocket,ConnectSocket1,select_err,err,nRet,nBytesRead; struct timeval waitTime = {10,30}; fd_set socket_set; unsigned char * dataBuf = NULL; unsigned char tempVar, tempVar1, tempVar2, tempVar3; char reset[] = "\033E 2\r"; char print[] = "\033A 1\r"; char buf[1024]={0}; ConnectSocket = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_TCP); printf("The Socket ID is %d\n",ConnectSocket); if (ConnectSocket < 0) { perror("socket()"); return 0; } struct sockaddr_in clientService; clientService.sin_family = AF_INET; clientService.sin_addr.s_addr = inet_addr("192.168.0.129"); //Printer IP clientService.sin_port = htons( 9100); // Printer Port if ( connect( ConnectSocket, (struct sockaddr*) &clientService, sizeof(clientService) ) == -1) { perror("connect()"); close(ConnectSocket); return -1; } /* if((nRet = ioctl(ConnectSocket , FIONREAD, &nBytesRead) == -1)) { perror("ioctl()"); } perror("ioctl()"); */ FD_ZERO(&socket_set); FD_SET(ConnectSocket, &socket_set); do { errno=0; select_err = select(ConnectSocket+1, NULL, &socket_set, NULL, &waitTime); }while(errno==EINPROGRESS); if (-1 == select_err || 0 == select_err) { int optVal = 0; int optLen = sizeof(optVal); if(select_err == -1) { perror("select() write-side"); } else { //Timeout errno=0; err = getsockopt(ConnectSocket, SOL_SOCKET, SO_ERROR, (char*)&optVal, &optLen); printf("the return of the getsockopt is %d\n",err); printf("the opt val is %s\n",(char*)optVal); perror("getsockopt()"); if(err == -1) { perror("getsockopt() write-side"); } } printf("Select Failed during write - ConnectSocket: %d\n", ConnectSocket); //close(ConnectSocket); return -1; } err = send(ConnectSocket,print,sizeof(print)-1, 0); printf("\n No of Bytes Send is %d\n",err); if(err == -1 || err ==0) { perror("send()"); //close(ConnectSocket); return -1; } FD_ZERO(&socket_set); FD_SET(ConnectSocket, &socket_set); do { errno=0; select_err = select(ConnectSocket+1, NULL, &socket_set, NULL, &waitTime); }while(errno==EINPROGRESS); if (-1 == select_err || 0 == select_err) { printf("Select Failed during write - ConnectSocket: %d\n", ConnectSocket); return -1; } err = send(ConnectSocket,reset,sizeof(reset)-1, 0); printf("\n No of Bytes Send is %d\n",err); if(err == -1 || err ==0) { perror("send()"); //close(ConnectSocket); return -1; } FD_ZERO(&socket_set); FD_SET(ConnectSocket, &socket_set); printf("i am in reading \n"); select_err = select(ConnectSocket+1, &socket_set, NULL, NULL, &waitTime); printf("the retun of the read side select is %d \n",select_err); perror("select()"); if (-1 == select_err|| 0 == select_err) { printf("Read timeout; ConnectSocket: %d\n", ConnectSocket); close(ConnectSocket); perror("close()"); return -1; } printf("Before Recv\n"); nBytesRead = recv(ConnectSocket , buf, 1024, 0); printf("No of Bytes read is %d\n",nBytesRead); printf("%s\n",buf); if(nBytesRead == -1) { perror("recv()"); close(ConnectSocket); perror("clode()"); return -1; } close(ConnectSocket); return 1; }

  • How can I include platform-specific native libraries in the .JAR file using Eclipse?

    - by Martin Wiboe
Hello all, I am just starting to learn JNI. I have been following a simple example, and I have created a Java app that calls a Hello World method in a native library. I'd like to target Win32 and Linux x86. My library resides in a DLL, and I can call it just fine using LoadLibrary when the DLL is added to the root of my Eclipse project. However, I can't figure out how to get Eclipse to export a runnable JAR that includes the DLL and the .SO file for Linux. So my question is basically; how would you go about creating a project in Eclipse and include several versions of the same native library? Thank you, Martin

  • Convert C++Builder AnsiString to std::string via boost::lexical_cast

    - by David Klein
For a school assignment I have to implement a project in C++ using Borland C++ Builder. As the VCL uses AnsiString for all GUI Components I have to convert all of my std::strings to AnsiString for the sake of displaying. std::string inp = "Hello world!"; AnsiString outp(inp.c_str()); works of course but is a bit tedious to write and code duplication I want to avoid. As we use Boost in other contexts I decided to provide some helper functions go get boost::lexical_cast to work with AnsiString. Here is my implementation so far: std::istream& operator>>(std::istream& istr, AnsiString& str) { istr.exceptions(std::ios::badbit | std::ios::failbit | std::ios::eofbit); std::string s; std::getline(istr,s); str = AnsiString(s.c_str()); return istr; } In the beginning I got Access Violation after Access Violation but since I added the .exceptions() stuff the picture gets clearer. When the conversion is performed I get the following Exception: ios_base::eofbit set [Runtime Error/std::ios_base::failure] Does anyone have an idea how to fix it and can explain why the error occurs? My C++ experience is very limited. The conversion routine the other way round would be: std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream& ostr, const AnsiString& str) { ostr << (str.c_str()); return ostr; } Maybe someone will spot an error here too :) With best regards! Edit: At the moment I'm using the edited version of Jem, it works in the beginning. After a while of using the programm the Borland Codeguard mentions some pointer arithmetic in already freed regions. Any ideas how this could be related? • Compile error C++: could not deduce template argument for 'T'

    - by OneShot
I'm trying to read binary data to load structs back into memory so I can edit them and save them back to the .dat file. readVector() attempts to read the file, and return the vectors that were serialized. But i'm getting this compile error when I try and run it. What am I doing wrong with my templates? ***** EDIT ************** Code: // Project 5.cpp : main project file. #include "stdafx.h" #include <iostream> #include <fstream> #include <string> #include <vector> #include <algorithm> using namespace System; using namespace std; #pragma hdrstop int checkCommand (string line); template<typename T> void writeVector(ofstream &out, const vector<T> &vec); template<typename T> vector<T> readVector(ifstream &in); struct InventoryItem { string Item; string Description; int Quantity; int wholesaleCost; int retailCost; int dateAdded; } ; int main(void) { cout << "Welcome to the Inventory Manager extreme! • GUI to include a `.props` file to a VS 2010 project?

    - by jwfearn
Visual Studio 2010 has no longer uses .vsprops files and instead uses .props files. To add a .vsprops file to a Visual Studio 2008 project, one could right-click the project icon in the Solution Explorer panel, choose Properties, go to the Configuration Properties | General section, and modify the Inherited Project Property Sheets property to contain a list of .vsprops paths. One could also modify the Visual Studio 2008 project file directly. Is there a way in the Visual Studio 2010 GUI to add .props files to a project? The Inherited Project Property Sheets property seems to have been removed. If manual editing of the project file is the only way to include .props files, where can one find documentation on doing it?

  • Can I use/include gsdll32.dll redmonnt.dll (no modificaitons) in a commercial application for my cli

    - by scriptmaster
Hi - I am not a license expert, however after a lot of research, I am still struggling to answer the following questions and would like to know if my assumptions are right! 1) Is it legal to include gsdll32.dll and redmonnt.dll in a commercial product? A: ? 2) Should I release any source code of the commercial app where I am using this library? A: ? 3) Is there a commercial license (a small fee that my client can pay to use these libraries) to GhostScript? A: ? 4) Whats the meaning of "although it may be distributed ("aggregated") with commercial products." in this para: http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/doc/AFPL/8.00/New-user.htm#Commercial_use A: ? 5) What are the alternate solutions? • How to include LinkedIn user profile page feeds in web application?

    - by Jeevan Dongre
I am building a web application in which I would like to include the user's LinkedIn profile page feeds. Is this possible? What I envision is the user comes to the web application and adds the complete URL for their Linked user profile in a text box and I would get the feeds for that user page. Would it be possible to do this with jquery? Or should I be looking at some other tool? I trying to make it more clear, I want to create a widget kinda of app for my web app where user enters a complete url of the linkedin user profile page and I have to retrieve the feeds of that particular user and display it. It should be dynamic in nature, if another user enters a another url into the text box I should be able to get the feeds from that particular user profile page.

  • python optparse, how to include additional info in usage output?

    - by CarpeNoctem
Using python's optparse module I would like to add extra example lines below the regular usage output. My current help_print() output looks like this: usage: check_dell.py [options] options: -h, --help show this help message and exit -s, --storage checks virtual and physical disks -c, --chassis checks specified chassis components I would like it to include usage examples for the less *nix literate users at my work. Something like this: usage: check_dell.py [options] options: -h, --help show this help message and exit -s, --storage checks virtual and physical disks -c, --chassis checks specified chassis components Examples: check_dell -c all check_dell -c fans memory voltage check_dell -s How would I accomplish this? What optparse options allow for such? Current code: import optparse def main(): parser = optparse.OptionParser() parser.add_option('-s', '--storage', action='store_true', default=False, help='checks virtual and physical disks') parser.add_option('-c', '--chassis', action='store_true', default=False, help='checks specified chassis components') (opts, args) = parser.parse_args()

  • How to automatically include generated source files into a C# project in Visual Studio?

    - by Charles Prakash Dasari
I have a situation where I need to generate a bunch of C# code files in a prebuild step of a project and include the generated files into the current project for compilation. Is there a way to do this cleanly without having to muck with the project file every time the prebuild step is run? My solution should work for both IDE based build and a Team Build based on MSBuild. Since both are MSBuild based, I suspect there won't be much difference; but wanted to call it out. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • Is it valid for RSS feeds to include images with relative paths?

    - by Brian Armstrong
I have an app which reads lots of RSS feeds. Someone added a feed recently that includes images in the html portion with relative URLS (i.e. it didn't include the http://www.domain.com/ part in front). Is this valid html for an RSS feed? I thought not, but I tried adding the feed to my Google reader and it picked up the images correctly, so they must be doing something smart where they guess the domain based on the feed's url parameter or something. Even if it's not valid, how common is it to see feeds like this in the wild? To display it correctly would require you to parse the html in the feed and find/replace parts of it to insert full URL's, so this seems wrong. But wanted to double check.
